Iraq controls twenty-five percent of the world’s daily oil output. Prices soar as the Soviet Union moves to fill the void. The world’s first oil war has begun and wreaked havoc on global trade.
Fighting around Medina and the Islamic Holy sites turns medieval.
Memories of World War I trench warfare return. Will the 101st Airborne be able to stop the Republican Guard from throwing America and the remnants of the Saudi Army into the Red Sea?
High above the skies of the desert, Iraqi MiG-29s, flown by Soviet advisors, battle against F-15s and F-14s for supremacy of the skies.
Egypt deploys its military to join forces with Great Britain and the US to hold the line in Oman. King Abdullah of Jordan rallies to the Haus of Saud, increasing Arab legitimacy to remove Saddam.
Desert Shield kicks off in earnest. America deploys the largest contingent of forces abroad since the Vietnam War.
The world holds its breath as more than one million soldiers prepare to clash.
You’ll love this second book in the Crisis in the Desert series as we look at a war that could have been.
“Project 19”Continues with “Desert Shield” with Accuracy and Immediacy
The Jackson/Rosone team continues to captivate with book two of the “what if” story of Saddam Hussein’s last folly. Continuing with the authenticity and immediacy of “Project 19” the authors keep us engaged with an account that ranges from a”one over the world” international political to down-in- the- foxhole, turret, cockpit and SEAL Delivery Vehicle detail that fast paced, exciting, and plausible. Those who experienced the actual events, this novel will make you appreciate their rapid, relatively painless conclusion compared to what could have been. For those who haven’t this is a story replete with all of the elements that one hopes for in this genre. I highly recommend this book and am eagerly awaiting the next volume.
The novel continues where the first left off lay building on subplot lines becoming more important has the story progressed to build a more diverse exploitation of military growth during the war.
I found I lacked the enthusiasm I had from the first novel has I didn’t really get a whoa surprise filling the story felt naturally in developing plot story but nothing that blew my mind do. Has I saw the reason for this was the lack of dark methods used by the nations I guess too played two fair only sliming the line during things link the interrogation part was one but a good dark method was the use of mustard gas in the first novel to show the brutality of war.
I've often wondered what it would have been like if Saddam Hussein had continued his assault through Saudi Arabia down to the UAE. This book attempts to answer those questions. I like the way the main characters, both historical and fictional, are portrayed. I found it very interesting that the idea of Soviet involvement, on a limited scale, is depicted. I believe that it would have made a world of difference to the Iraqis, but not so much to the coalition.
It's hard to believe that these events would have happened 30 years ago, in life what is going on in the world today.
All in all it's a well thought out piece of good, escapist fiction.
A continuation of the fictitious story about how the Iraq-Kuwait conflict could have turned out. In this second part after securing the further advance of Iraqi army, the US and coalition is now plannig an offensive. The story is fast paced but filled with much technical derails about the deployments and position of various units etc. In my opinion this kind of description is not easy for someone to visualize unless (s)he has a map with them or are familiar with the geography. Although the book has some deployment maps, but on a kindle version they are difficult to access when needed. I would love to see this book series as an OTT Series. Very easily three full seasons can be made out of three books in the series and with a good director, this should turn out very good.
D Day is approaching. The combined US, British forces will be launching an attack against the Iraqi forces. Utilizing all the firepower that we have available, ground forces air and sea we are hoping for a victory without a lot of casualties. Saddam Hussein's forces are also planning a large scale attack. This is the second book in this series and like the first an excellent read!!Enjoyed immensely!!
It is a fascinating guess at what might have happened, but it is really hampered by the lack of maps. Much of the book is taken up by planning, options, movement of troops. The generals are shown maps: we need them too!! Ready for the next one. Oh yes, talk to someone who has British military experience, please.
This is an interesting story line, but the telling of it is compromised by the author's insistence on dwelling on the details of weapons systems nomenclature and design specs. Compromising the effort are the mistakes in the unimportant details. They distract the reader and that compromises the flow of the narrative.
The detailed description of the proposed action is really amazing. This book is a detailed plan that probably would take any G-3 staff the three months as stated in the story. It should be noted that the story has the action cover a much larger area than the actual campaign covered.
I have just finished book 2 enjoyed the series very much Book one in book to read but I’ve been very well written but I will update and I have enjoyed reading them I’m looking for book number three
Very well written Cohesiveness Was kept Through out the whole book. Believable situations and Problems Solutions We're also believable Character development and interaction was outstanding My compliments to the author
Good detailed read with info on all the strategy’s & concerns a modern war needs. Have a good insight into the planning and issues needed to be addressed to help win a war. Slow in places but overall a good solid read and a great addition to the first part.
Far too much detail about army structure, Divisions; Brigades; units etc. Action sequences good, but lost track of individuals introduced and the lost track off and forgotten about. Ok as a free book on Amazon kindle, but questionable value of full price paid
I read the first book in the series and will follow this author. It is well researched and described events and actions in detail. I do wish that maps were provided, so more easily understand some of the actions
All this is a very nicely written series. With all,of the real characters we all know. The authors have done a great job of pulling it all together in one big what if…
