The story itself is really good and unique, and I found myself really enjoying this. However, the way that Midnight Studio abuses its authors and artists is not good. I read the webtoon rather than the novel, and as I came to the end, I was left unsatisfied. I went to the comments to see if other people felt the same way and found out that they did. In addition to that, I found out that the ending was rushed and a lot of the stuff from the novel was either changed or not included at all in the webtoon, which I was disappointed about.
Apparently, Midnight Studio was putting too much pressure on its artist to produce art more quickly that they ended up quitting, and the result of that was the studio releasing all the finished chapters even though it made the ending very abrupt. I did not enjoy the ending, particularly because I feel like more could have been done. Ja Hyun was such a big part of this webtoon, but his ending didn't really seem complete to me.
Honestly, Soru deserved better than everyone in this whole thing combined, and I honestly felt so bad for her because she never actually got to live a normal life like she wanted to. Not even in the end. She was abused and used by everyone in the webtoon, and the best character was literally the demon who had stolen her sight. Yato was the better guy between Ja Hyun and him. Every time Soru was in danger, he was always the one coming to rescue her rather than her supposed to be husband. Ja Hyun could not even have a conversation with Soru for 10 seconds without yelling at her. She always seemed so scared in his presence, and the fact he kept saying horrible things to her and didn't even seem to accept his feelings for Soru really made me root for Yato.
In the webtoon, Soru still has feelings for that bastard Ja Hyun even after he abandoned her to get beaten by a mob of people while she was trying to save his life. She lives her life with Yato, but it doesn't seem her love for Ja Hyun is over. However, in the novel, Soru gets over Ja Hyun and lives a happy life with Yato, which would be the perfect ending since Soru deserves all the happiness possible after everything she's been through. In the novel, it's also clearer just how abusive Ja Hyun was. He cheated on her multiple times and didn't really seem to care about her.
In the end, even when he claims to love Soru, he still marries that purple princess and lives a life as king. At least he was miserable all the time without Soru, but that's what he deserved after treating someone so pure and innocent, in such a disgusting manner.
The start and middle of the story are really promising and good, but the ending just kind of ruined it for me. I don't think this is the author's fault, but rather Midnight Studio that can't treat its employees properly.
Y Yato, my man, my demon.
whoa. this is fucking HEAVY, man… albeit in the best type of way. i don’t even know what to say. this is pretty damn dark; oh, so dark… but simultaneously, it’s so undeniably exquisite—genuinely enthralling writing. this is exactly what a graphic novel ought to be: art in the shape of words; a rare masterpiece. it almost has this… ‘dark maturity’ feel to it that just keeps pulling me further and further in. it’s intricate and pure and depressing and compelling and unique and delicate all at once and ughhh, fuck… the level of artistry’s strong with this one. not only is it beautifully complex, well-paced and so fucking well-written, but the art’s also out-of-this-world ETHEREAL… even my hollow heart feels heavy at this point.
whatever the case: ’twilight poem’ deserves so much more recognition than it’s currently receiving, and it sure as hell deserves a lot more than a couple of nice words from me. the overall quality’s definitely not something one comes across every day… knowing that, there should be much more high ratings for this; much much HIGHER ratings. so much depth, so much emotion with these characters… i can’t stress this enough. and i CANNOT understand why it hasn’t gotten as much attention as i feel it’s earned. truly, genuinely striking. my emotions are all over the place right now. this is art!
i wish there’d be a side story somewhere down the line, though. however much i appreciate the ending, i was informed of how lacking the manhwa’s ending was compared to the novel’s—which is somewhat understandable, now that i know the circumstances of said rushed ending to some degree… but i also won’t mind if this really is the end. i’m just so happy for soru to be at peace, honestly. and even more happy that she got to be with yato! ughhh, i love this match. good for them. <33

I can't even with this. Where do I even begin? This is a historical romance filled with flawed (lemme say that again, FLAWED) characters and a plot that keeps the action going so much that you'll feel like 50 chapters are too little. I want to give a summary, but I feel like I can't say anything without giving spoilers. But essentially, it's a story questioning humanity and dealing with the fear of the unknown that humans have. We shun that which we do not understand and try to overpower it, fearing it would harm us if we did not harm it first. There are questions about whether a human is still considered human after they do abhorrent things. Is a nonhuman entity more humane than us if it goes against its nature to kill and destroy for the sake of understanding humanity? It's just a beautiful story. I love the way the characters are written in this one because there isn't a single character that is not harmed by its toxic environment, but they all deal with their treatment differently, and their choices are why we root for some of them and despise others, even tho they've all done bad things (except Soru, who's precious😭 and Yumi) The ending is a bit rushed in the Webtoon, but if you read the light novel, it's explained well and gives proper closure. (But it is also explained in one of the top comments on the last EP of the Webtoon, so don't worry.)
PS: Read the trigger warnings, though. Things get pretty intense in there😬 There's gore, BLOOD, death, torture, abuse (of many types), and demons (attractive and otherwise).

Honestly, everything about this manhwa was perfect (everything = yato) while i really loved and felt bad for the fl for what she had gone through but.. *INHALES* she made me frustrated with her constant begging to ja hyun or whatever his name was. He was BLIND to the very end yet she just didn’t see it. Even at the start when he used her blood to form a “healing” business and get a reputation for himself i lost interest in his character. Because he felt bad deep down and still DID IT not to mention soru was literally accepting to be a walking blood bag? YATO COULD NEVER. while yato was originally a monster and had borrowed a human’s body. But he felt sympathy and for years he tried to be a real human and understand & feel human emotions. I loved how he constantly threatened soru that he’ll eat her heart since her heart was celestial and could turn him to a real human with emotions but he didn’t do it to the very end, and i loved the part when he frowned seeing soru’s bandaged hands. Overall the illustrations were beautiful but at the end it felt rushed. And honestly i kind of liked the detective named ashita, while it was his job to chain yato and kill him, he still felt sympathy for how yato felt towards soru.

I had a whole bunch of issues with this one. The art was gorgeous, but the main character remained a complete doormat for the entire story. This heavily exacerbated the fact that the romance, which was already painful to read, was horribly done. The so-called love interests either a) treated her terribly consistently or b) didn't have enough actual relationship development with her to have things be called a romance (and, y'know, were also murdering people left and right throughout the story - not very attractive). In summary, I would NOT recommend this to anyone. It's a train wreck with very pretty art that tries and epically fails to be either a romance or a compelling ghost story or a good palace drama. 1 star.
I've decided to drop this manhwa, but managed to skim until the ending. It is unacceptable how Soru was used and abused throughout her whole life. She could see light and hope because of Jahyun, but there was a huge misunderstanding between the two, as Jahyun's focus was to take revenge against the king. I dislike how he treated her, so it was satisfying how he suffered in the end for losing her. I also feel bad because instead of choosing to stay with the person she loves, Soru decided to stay with Yato instead to end all the chaos. It may seem that it is a happy ending, but Soru's choice was heartbreaking for me.

I've read the manhwa. I really fancy the concept revolving the love between human and supernatural being. Besides its dark ambiance, it feels so otherworldly and magical. I almost thought that Jahyeon is the male lead. Ahh, it's way better that it turns out Princess Soru ends up with the monster in human form. It's kinda tragical but beautiful in a sense. The moral story is that... don't judge someone by their appearance. And I really like that!
It's hard to properly review when English versions of Heeran Love Song are limited to fan translations—which aren't exactly known for their "moving prose." But, even with the challenges of reading between the lines, translating lines myself, and comparing notes, this light novel is definitely a gem worth the work for. I look forward to a day English-speaking fans may have the opportunity to read an official edition of this work in our own language.

Usually I read webtoons to see different takes on the tropes I love but this one was more than different. It gave me all the feels and had me awake at 5 am because I couldn't let the story go without knowing what was going to happen next. It made me angry and broke my heart at the same time. It's a story where nuance matters and is all about the gray areas.
I wish I could forget it and read it again for the first time, it was that amazing.
So, I read the manhwa version of this story instead which unfortunately ended abruptly for whatever reason. One thing that I am grateful for is that Soru had her happy ending and she came to that realisation on her own. The love story between Soru and Yato was one that I did not see coming but one that I had no option but to understand. As for Ja Hyun...he's definitely going to live out the rest of his days in regret for being so headed.
You know your love interest is bad when the literal king of demons who uses ( as in currently) her dead dad's corpse as a flesh suit is a better option then you
Soru doesn’t need a man she needs THERAPY.. ML was hot tho 😽
edit: now that the webtoon is finished.. probably would have enjoyed this more if the ML wasn’t in the body of her father????? literally why was that necessary
