Knight Sir Louis #1

Heer ridder Louis en de vreselijke vrouwe

Rate this book

My 8-year-old laughed with delighted joy all through this hilariously wacky adventure, which we listened to on audiobook - and if you can get the audiobook, I definitely recommend it, because it was narrated FABULOUSLY (by one of the co-authors, who's also a voice actor) and had fantastic sound effects as well. I only wish Book 2 was also available in audiobook - but since it's not (at least not yet) we're ordering the paperback of it today!

XD
Leuke illustraties. Oh en zoveel aardappels. Ik kijk nu heel anders naar aardappels.

Well this was such a fun and wonderful book to read, especially as I was in a bit of a reading slump and this really helped. This is one of those kids books that adults can easily enjoy too. The story is fun and easy to follow. The illustrations really capture how wonderfully bonkers this world is. I think it would make an amazing animated series, but it’s also an amazing book that everyone should read.

I needed something relaxing and this was it. Silly in the style of Monty Python, with equally bold male and female characters and a completely bonkers plot, accompanied by spot on illustrations. My husband and daughter were already big fans and I rapidly joined them.

My daughters (aged 3 and 5) and I thoroughly enjoyed Knight Sir Louis. From the way it plays with storying telling (certain chapters coming in the form of interviews, reports, songs and even an instruction manual!), the illustrations complimenting most pages and it's eccentric cast of characters.

There were many giggles throughout the story at the sheer madness of it all. Along with a few wrinkled-nosed, “what just happened?!” moments that left us all laughing. At times it felt like reading a loony saturday morning cartoon!

I don't want to give much more away through fears of spoiling any laughs but we'd all thoroughly recommend picking up a copy and have our fingers, toes and parsnips crossed that another adventure is in the pipe-line!

The kids at work will enjoy this, although i think some of them will enjoy having it read to them and I think their grown-ups will enjoy reading it to them. It's all very silly. I especially liked the names, Lord Pockets being my favourite-definite hints of Milligan and Private Eye there methinks.

You’ll find this in the kids section, but this is one for anybody who enjoys inventive, crazy story telling. It’s pantomime, Game Of Thrones with evil magic potatoes as the enemy instead of dragons (that’s the sequel apparently!)

Without a doubt this everso slightly bonkers book is one of the funniest, most original and random pieces of children’s literature you will read this year!

Knight Sir Louis, by the Brothers McLeod, is a book that plays with the convention of being a book, as much as does tell a very funny, beautifully random story about a brave Knight who must defeat the huge robotic Damsel, and various other nefarious baddies causing mayhem in the kingdom of King Burt the Not So Bad.

There are hilarious illustrations, laugh-out-loud comedy moments and a very inventive story that appears to centre around how evil potato magic is. Yep, that’s right. Evil potato magic. That alone should give you an idea about how cool this middle-grade comedy fest of a book is!

Knight Sir Louis is very accessible – especially for readers who struggle a bit – because it is fully of short chapters, loads of illustrations and fun moments where the main story is paused to allow the book to introduce things like newspaper articles, music-loving walruses, and a terrible (but slightly rubbish) baddie called Bazooka Harry.

Absolutely brilliant book – go get it right this minute!

In the year of our Llama 802, utter lunacy was unleashed upon the literary world by the Brothers MacLeod, who brought to us Knight Sir Louis (whose first career choice had been farming, which was unfortunately - or perhaps fortunately - thwarted by an itinerant wicked witch).

Adventuring through his singularly wacky world of giant Distressing Damsels, mechanical steeds and sideways castles is not for the faint of humour.

But if you like alternative comedy, or you're a Monty Python fan, or you really just enjoy having absolute craziness all around you, you should definitely check out this series!

I received a free copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review

With a mechanical horse called 'Clunkalot' and a magic sword called 'Dave', you know you're in for a fun ride with this story! The humour is at times very dry, but is mostly slapstick and silly. My son thought it was hilarious. The story has many twists and there's lost of clever aspects to the story telling (see Chapter 28!) that adds a dimension I've not come across before and was very refreshing. It could be read to children of any age over about 5 or 6 but reading age for children I suspect is more like 7-12 depending on reading confidence/level. Highly recommended.

4.75 stars. I cannot believe how amazing this book was. Refreshingly unique, funny, almost to the point of parody, absurd, with lots and lots of heart. An unusual knight in an unusual kingdom sets up to an unusual journey to save the day and defeat the villain. Just his name "Bazooka Harry" indicates how exceptionally fun and creative this book is.

My 7 year-old has read this over and over. Not exactly my cup of tea, but it's clever and the humor is well-executed

It is a hilarious book. "Bonkers" is a very good word to describe the kind of jokes you get in this book. I think my students would love it, but it will be a bit hard to use this as core text.
