As the hockey league’s star goalie, I live by three simple principles:
1. Keep a pristine image.
2. Work hard on the ice.
3. Don’t piss off the bosses…too much.

I was killing it until a mishap tarnished my image. Now, management has me cleaning up my reputation and coaching a bunch of kids. And damn, those little punks are growing on me, and so is the program coordinator, Kendra.
I’m hellbent on proving myself, but my attraction to Kendra takes me by complete surprise. Her defenses are up, but I like a good challenge.

Management’s directives are clear: "Kendra is off-limits."
But there's a reason I'm the best. I won’t let anyone stand in the way of what I want.

Hold Me Forever was a nice read. I particularly liked that the story doesn't have too much drama but it still caught and kept my interest.

Tyler Maxwell is a hockey player, after a bad rep on the net and an injury he decides to volunteer as a hockey coach for underprivileged kids. Kendra Douglas coordinates all the voluntary activities. She has to oversee Tyler, but her growing attraction for him and his flirting second nature will "complicate" their relationship.

It was a pleasure to meet the Maxwell family, they are a tight-knit group, at times they are overprotecting and often they are in each other's business but their act like that because their love is too big.

Layla Hagen is one of my go-to authors for charming, steamy, low-drama contemporary love stories. Stories that feel real, authentic, and so tenderly sweet. And Hold Me Forever is full of the sweet. It’s blissfully low angst but full of heart.

Our hero Tyler is on a quest to clean up his image after he’s suspended from his Chicago professional hockey team. In order to get back on the ice with the team and to rest his injured shoulder, he’s been ordered by his team to volunteer, and he decides to work with underprivileged kiddos to teach them his beloved game of hockey. His volunteering helps him meet Kendra, who manages the program, and she makes Tyler’s heart go pitter pat. Their undeniable connection, but Kendra has some baggage, and Tyler is trying to keep his image in check.

This was just adorable- Tyler falls so sweetly for Kendra, and he’s so supportive as he helps see he’s worth the chance. I loved how open he is emotionally and how easily they communicate. He’s just so dreamy- patient, thoughtful, and caring with the hesitant Kendra (and the cute kiddos in the program). And I felt for Kendra and her fear of loss and leaning on others, and I loved her chemistry with Tyler. And the Maxwell family is just a delight. Another sweet story from Layla, and I’m excited for the book it seems we’ll have next!

This was ok? I finished it, mostly because I was listening to the audiobook because Zachary Webber narrates the male POV. I liked the hero, Tyler, more than the heroine. I found his dialogue and dynamic with his large family so much more entertaining than his scenes with the heroine- which is a PROBLEM for a romance novel😂

There was no stupidly angsty conflict, which was nice.

⭐️ for Zachary’s narration
⭐️for family dynamics, nice guy, pro hockey player hero
✨for no angst

So, would I recommend to a friend? Probably not🤷🏻‍♀️but it wasn’t a DNF.

Hold Me Forever is the second book in Hagen’s Maxwell Brothers series. I honestly thought it was a good, not great book. Hagen tells good imaginative stories. It’s just the way she writes that grates on me a little. The reason is there are times I find Hagen’s writing voice simplistic for lack of a better term as if she’s writing for someone with a grade school reading level even though her books are definitely not meant for children to read. Since I’m willing to continue buying her books I guess it doesn’t bother me that much!
This is the story of Tyler Maxwell All-Star hockey goalie for the imaginary Chicago Blades who falls in love with Kendra who works for a non-profit as a volunteer coordinator and pairs Tyler up with a group of underprivileged kids as their hockey coach. We met them in the epilogue to the first book. Which is another issue I have with Hagen although its certainly not unique to her. Her epilogues are almost always devoted to setting up the next book in the series rather than focused on the couple of that book.
I really like both main characters. Kendra and her younger sister Emma had a very sad childhood growing up extremely poor and often alone while their widowed mother worked two and three jobs to try and make ends meet. Kendra spent a lot of her childhood taking care of two years younger Emma and ducking CPS while their mom worked. Both young women went on to graduate from college and share an office working for the same non-profit. Kendra after losing her father young and watching her mother’s future lovers abandon her when things got too tough, lives with the fear that the same will happen to her. Which is where this books title comes from. She has trouble accepting help from anyone, even her sister while she is constantly going out of her way to help others. Unlike Kendra and Emma Tyler grew up part of a large loving family with two loving parents. The Maxwells are one of Chicago's most prominent and wealthy. Tyler is a trust fund baby but like his siblings and cousins insists on working hard to support himself. Tyler is the league’s top goalie and the Blades are the defending Stanley Cup Champions. Tyler has a shoulder injury and his a-hole G.M. suspends him because he got in a fight defending his cousin Reese from her ex-fiancée. He tells Tyler he needs to do some community service to rehab his image to team sponsors while he’s suspended without even asking Tyler what the altercation was about. Which is how he ends up meeting Kendra. This is all included in the previous book’s epilogue. What I liked about Tyler was when he met Kendra he immediately set sights on making her his and he wasn’t going to let anyone or anything get in his way. There was no wishy washy one foot in one foot out you often get from male protagonists in contemporary romance. Tyler was all in from the start. He made Kendra believe that she was his #1 priority. I like how all the Maxwell family quickly embraced Kendra and made her one of their own.
I’m not a fan of contemporary romances that are over loaded with angst so the fact that this book wasn’t, I viewed as a good thing. But this story had so little of it I kept waiting for the proverbial other shoe to drop. That big thing the couple would have to overcome to be together. Good book. Tyler was certainly a swoon worthy hero. Kendra was great as a smart, strong sexy, caring, sometimes too independent woman who still managed to remain vulnerable. The warm family feels were great. The sex scenes were ample and hot. I thought the ending was nice as far as it went but the epilogue focused on the next book with Declan, the oldest Maxwell sibling and his sexy tenant as much or more than it did on Tyler and Kendra.

So here's the thing, I'm not sure wether I should continue with this series or not. I like the books ok, but there is something that doesn't sit with me right when I read them. The book seems to go between being completely cheesy/scripted to the opposite extreme of trying to pull of sexy. It just doesn't work.

For example, there is a part right at the beginning where Tyler is going outside to be by Paisley:

"Can you push me? I want to go really high. I weighed the risks, but I was right here, ready to catch her if she lost her balance. Thanks to my years on the ice, I had quick reflexes." Um, Paisley is 10. 10!!!!! And it's the most ridiculous thing ever for him to think hockey has anything to do with it...lol

There are so many more times like this throughout the book. It really breaks the flow of the book for me. I think it's because sentences or phrases like this stick out like a sore thumb. Because the next minute we are having a cuss fest like the author is trying to make the characters cool or something. It just didn't work for me.

Also, let's talk about the hockey aspect. None of it made sense. He's been with this hockey team for YEARS. He's a veteran player, but yet the first fight he ever gets in because he's defending his cousin, his team completely cuts him off and requires community service to change his "public perception"??? Um, how about you tell the public he was defending a family member? Or how about the fact that his team doesn't even want him to practice or be around them at all because he would be a distraction? LOL This is not how sports work. AT.ALL.

I had a lot of these feelings with the first book as well but thought I'll give the next one a shot because with time it should get better. Well, this is the second book and I'm a little nervous to even attempt the third. So maybe this is where I just cough it up to this author isn't for me.

5 star review Hold Me Forever by Layla Hagen

Book two in the latest series from Layla Hagen and is Tyler Maxwell’s story. Having read the first book, I could not wait to dive in to Hold Me Forever. It was everything I expected and so much more.

Tyler has been suspended from his team and his family have rallied to keep him company and his time occupied. Team management have told him in no uncertain terms that he has to keep out of trouble.

Tyler is desperate to clean up his reputation, after all his career is on the line. Working with the children he has been tasked with coaching he not only falls for them but also Kendra Douglas who is the program coordinator.

I fell hard and fast for Tyler and Kendra the woman who captures his heart. The love and camaraderie that he shares with his family was heart warming. The banter between them is witty, but it is the love and support that his family has for one another that elevates this book to another level.

Even though he has been told that Kendra is off limits, Tyler is determined to make her his. The chemistry between Tyler and Kendra is intense and impossible to ignore. I enjoyed that Kendra did not fall at his feet immediately and that he had to work to convince her to take a chance on him. I really enjoyed the development of their relationship and the love that they found together.

The Maxwell family had me laughing out loud on a number of occasions, I just love their dynamics and that they always have one another's back, no matter what. This book left me with a smile on my face and I cannot wait for the next book in the series.

Nothing happens in this book. Seriously ... nothing. This is the story of two people who see each other, like each other, date each other, fall in love with each other, and then live happily ever after. That's it. There's no drama keeping them apart. There's no deep psychological wounds that have to be repaired. According to the book blurb the main thing keeping them apart is that Tyler's hockey team management may not want him to date Kendra, but that takes all of one paragraph in this story. One paragraph. That's it. Supposedly Kendra is hesitant to get in a relationship, but that lasts about one page. No. These two just fall right into love. I felt like I was dropped in the middle of a story here. Tyler and Kendra become a couple almost from the start. Maybe they had interactions in the first book of this series? Maybe. I don't know. Some reviewers said that they loved the story because of the great banter between Tyler and Kendra, but I wasn't feeling it. This is obviously a series about a tight-knit family, but I didn't really feel all that much for Tyler's family. Just your average perfect family that is always there for each other and their significant others in between moments where they are earning a gazillion dollars or becoming super famous for all their awesomeness. But they're just like everyone else. Normal, average perfection. So this book didn't really work for me, but it is not a bad book. It's a perfectly adequate book, but it lacks spark. I give it two stars, but they are positive stars. I feel like I should be more grateful to find a book that isn't loaded with soap opera drama driving the plot. It was okay, but just okay.

Tyler need to rebuild his image and he is volunteering a youth hockey team. Kendra works with volunteers. This is how both their paths cross.

Tyler was warned not to get involved, but he couldn’t deny is attraction to Kendra and was drawn to her instantly. Kendra has some issues with her past, so she wasn’t exactly jumping up and down to start anything, especially with Tyler. There was chemistry, there was attraction and I loved how sweet Tyler was with Kendra. He slowly knocked down all her walls and proved to her that he is a good guy.

This story was enjoyable, but there was just something missing for me. I loved Tyler and Kendra. I loved the entire Maxwell family. This was low drama, sweet and had some spice to it.

If you’re looking for a sports romance check this one out.

This is the second book about the Maxwell Brothers, Tyler is the Hockey Player who has gotten himself in a spot. Injured and suspended in one incident. His management wants him to do community service before returning to the ice.

Kendra is probably one of my favorite characters, her selfless acts, and love of making kids get to be kids, warms the heart. Achieving her goals, and her sister are her priority. So when Tyler shows up to coach her hockey team sparks fly, he is not part of her plans.

Tyler loves to work with kids, so he is all in if his privilege can make some smiles. His crush on Kendra is just a bonus. Will she let him in? Can he clean up his reputation to please management?

I was pulled in and quickly read this book. I am looking forward to meeting our next Maxwell.

Thank you to the author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

•NHL hero
•Heroine works with kids
•Low angst
•Lots of family involvement

Hold Me Forever is book 2 in the Maxwell Brothers series. I love sports romances, specifically hockey ones, and I enjoy romance series where each book is focused on a different sibling in a family. So in theory, I should love this series. But so far, it’s kind of fell flat for me. Kendra & Tyler were cute together and I was happy to see them get their HEA, but there wasn’t enough angst or any type of push & pull to keep me emotionally invested. If you like ultra low-angst romances, you’ll enjoy this one I think!

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you to Wildfire Marketing & the author for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I love Layla Hagen's books because they are romantic and so great to read and enjoy. The Maxwell family has the most beautiful brothers and the fact that Tyler is a hockey goalie is a plus to this great story. Tyler is facing a bit of a hard time and needs to clean his image to his team and Kendra works at the volunteer organization which will help kids playing hockey. The one thing I love the Maxwells is that they know how to love and this book is the perfect example. Tyler is romantic, sexy and the way he loves Kendra is beautiful.
I loved this book!

I like how low-angst this authors books are, but it gets kind of old and tiring to constantly hear how hot, sexy and swoon-worthy the other character is. All of her characters are so model-like and perfect it’s hard to relate.

Hold Me Forever is book #2 in The Maxwell Brothers Series by Layla Hagen. While this can be read stand alone I highly recommend catching up on Tate and Lexi’s story first, in Promise Me Forever. Layla Hagen is one of my favourite authors when I am in the mood for a heartwarming, sweet, low angst love story and she absolutely delivered that with a Kendra and Tyler’s story. Tyler Maxwell is a goalie for the NHL’s hottest hockey team, the Chicago Blades. He has recently found himself in a bit of hot water with the team after a video went viral and he has been benched by team management until he can clean up his image. Volunteering to coach hockey at a youth center for underprivileged children ought to do it. Here he meets Kendra, the organizer of the volunteer facility and sparks fly immediately between them. Although neither of them are at places in their lives where a new relationship is a good idea the pull to Kendra for Tyler is strong and he falls hard and fast for her. He has been warned a relationship with Kendra is off limits but he won’t let that deter him. I loved Tyler when he was interacting with the youth at the center. He is sweet and supportive to them and helping them out just because he can and has the means to. Kendra is a woman I highly connected with. She is a determined, strong young woman with a huge heart. She loves her job and fights for the programs and kids she believes in. I loved getting more the extended Maxwell family. Kendra and her sister Emma fit right in. They are a supportive, all up in each other’s business kind of family but it’s because they love so hard, and I absolutely loved it. I cannot wait for the next one.

This is Tyler Maxwell and Kendra Douglas’s story, it’s book 2 in Kayla Hagen’s latest series but it can certainly be read and enjoyed as a stand-alone. Although I’m sure once you pick up one of this very talented authors works you will be left wanting more. After reading the first book in the series I was excited for Tyler’s story and all I’m going to say is, his story was everything I expected and more.
Tyler is suspended from the starting lineup with the Chicago Blades Hockey team, his life is hockey so when he is told one of the conditions to get back playing is to volunteer, he has no qualms signing up to help underprivileged children learn the game he loves with a passion. Needing to keep out of trouble his family have also rallied around him and will do whatever is needed to help him clean up his reputation. What follows is a man falling hard and fast for Kendra Douglas, the coordinator of the program he has volunteered for, he knows she should be off limits but his heart is telling him otherwise so will he convince the woman of his dreams to give this bad boy turned good a chance…..
I loved everything about this book, I fell hard and fast for Tyler, I envied the relationship he shares with his family and I adored the bond he built with the children he was coaching. Kendra was a very special lady, not falling at Tyler’s feet took her character to another level for me but it was witty banter and the friendships and families that made this a perfect read.

This is book 2 in the series and is about Tyler who we met in the first book. He is the hockey playing Maxwell brother who ended up injured and in trouble with his team when he defended his cousin from her ex that was also videoed and posted online for the world to see.

Since he is suspended her ends up doing community service and the coordinator is Kendra who he ends up crushing on. She kinda crushes on him back and I enjoyed watching these two become friends and explore their attraction.

Kendra is this really awesome woman and while Tyler comes from this wonderful family, she has not had the best life growing up. So it was kinda awesome watching her interact with Tyler's family.

This was a fun story with very little drama but lots of heart and all the feels. Tyler is an awesome guy and I adored how he loves his siblings and cousins. Kendra is pretty awesome too and I loved her relationship with her sister.

I received a complimentary early release copy of this e-book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Hockey has always played an important role in Tyler’s life and that is what has made his professional career to successful. All it would take is an injury and one incident to sway the public’s opinion of him which he needs to reverse. What better way to put his skills to use then by volunteering to help the children who need it the most hone their hockey skills. Although he has been warned to keep his reputation with the program director strictly professional once he meets Kendra, he knows that is a rule he is about to break.

Kendra is the program director, and she is dedicated to doing whatever she can for the kids who need it the most. She isn’t about to be distracted to by a sexy hockey player but she hadn’t expected his determination to pursue her or the fact that the man would be so appealing and nothing like she thought he would be.

Tyler’s and Kendra’s romance is the perfect mix of sweet and sexy as they take us on a heartwarming journey filled with love, family and all the feels that is sure to bring a smile to your face.

Layla Hagen’s family series of standalones are always entertaining to read, and this one is no exception...Tyler Maxwell is going to sweep you off your feet!

Tyler Maxwell, professional goalie, meets Kendra Douglas, program coordinator, when he’s told by team management to clean up his act and make a good impression for the public. Tyler is a great guy and volunteering with underprivileged kids isn’t a hardship, especially when he sets eyes on Kendra. Despite their initial thoughts to keep things professional, things end up veering in the unprofessional direction quite quickly! Their love story moved along with little drama or angst and reading about their sweet and sexy journey was very enjoyable.

I loved the great characters, amazing family dynamics, witty banter, swoon worthy romance, and steamy chemistry!

Layla Hagen lights the lamp with HOLD ME FOREVER (The Maxwell Brothers #2). In this story, Chicago Blades NHL goalie, Tyler Maxwell, is rehabbing his shoulder and his image. He meets program Coordinator, Kendra Douglas, who helped set up his volunteer opportunity at the Chicago Sports Center coaching kids in hockey. He is instantly attracted to her. He pursues her despite management's warnings and Kendra’s reservations.

HOLD ME FOREVER is heartwarming and entertaining read. Tyler has an amazing family. They are down to earth despite their wealth. He is incredibly thoughtful. Kendra just has her sister. Trust doesn’t come easy for her. She is a strong heroine whom you cannot help but like. The couple face some interesting challenges. They have amazing chemistry. I enjoyed that Tyler’s parents live in my neighborhood in Chicago. Their house sounds much nicer than mine.

This is the first book that I have read by Layla Hagen. I enjoyed her writing style. I would pick up another book by her in the future. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

I’m not a fan of hockey, or sports romance, but I’ve actually been waiting on pins and needles for Tyler’s story. He’s a goalie god on the ice, but off the ice, he’s a loving, romantic, amazing man. And he is absolutely perfect for Kendra.

Kendra hasn’t had an easy life, but she loves her sister and she loves her job. Then she meets Tyler and all bets are off.

I adore the writing of Layla Hagen. Her stories are always fresh and her characters are life like. I also loved catching up with the rest of the Maxwell clan!

Fun and playful is what comes to mind after finishing this story. I loved the banter and the dynamics of the Maxwell family. I have a feeling this series will just keep getting better and better as we continue.

Kendra is such a great person. She cares and loves her job. She's putting everyone else's needs before her own and I lived how much Tyler wanted to ease her burden. He was an amazing guy and deserved a woman who will love him for all his worth.

As said this was an easy, read-in-one-sitting kinda book. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next.

This book was ehhhhhh. It was so cringe at spots and I almost DNFd it because of that. I legit rolled my eyes. Would’ve been cute if it wasn’t for those parts. One in particular, the fight on the ice during the hockey game and she had to come down to “make sure he was okay” crrrrrringeeee because she kept him from going in the locker room at 1/2 time. Like what coach would be cool with that?!

Hold Me Forever

After a hockey injury and some bad press, they force to him to take time off from his hockey career. Tyler decides to clean up his imagine and do something worthy and he volunteers to coach kids at the Chicago Sports Center. He is around the sport he loves and it reminds him what is important.
Its not the only thing he found at the sport center, he also found a woman that sets his heart on fire. Kendra is a project coordinator and he is ready to to do anything to get her time and attention. She is forbidden but he isnt going to let her slip through his fingers without a fight. That just means more trouble.

Hold Me Forever is sweet romance that leaves your heart wanting more! The moment they walked into these pages it was clear that there was something going on between them. It took Tyler some time to get Kendra. She is the first girl not to fall at his feet and that drove him crazy. she was determined not to fall for a hockey player and his charms.. She made him work for his time and attention.

I was hooked the moment I opened up the book! This book and all of her other books always held me captive! The sweetness between Tyler and Kendra is so beyond adorable!

I enjoy a book with a decisive MMC. I am finding a theme with this series, it has little to no waves, making it a great pallet cleanser. This one is no exception. Tyler and Kendra are sweet, and balance each other out. Nothing stood out as phenomenal or anything, but it was just fine.
