Laney is three, and she’s beginning magical preschool just in time for the donut shop’s grand opening. Hekate is happy to have grandma and grandpa all to herself for a few hours a day.
Kinsley’s excitement over her restaurant is cut short when a body is found in the bathroom during the grand opening celebration. Of course, she’s not an official suspect, but when did that ever stop the small-town gossip train?
Her new business is about to be deep-fried before it even opens.
Sara Bourgeois is a Midwesterner through and through. She spends her time writing, reading, herding cats, and standing in her driveway during tornado warnings. (You can't see them from the basement.)
This is an entertaining Supernatural cozy Mr. series. A spectacular cast of characters and a great storyline. This is the second generation of witches in this magical world. Kinsley Skidmore Wilson is a witch and the leader of her coven in Coventry a small town that has a magical veil over it so that when magical things happen the humans tend to ignore it. The screen more family is a powerful witch family that lives in Coventry. The total Smith family was another powerful which family that lived in this town for generations until just a few of them were left in the two families married and joined and became one. Now that Kinsley is the leader of the Kevin and is raising her two daughters with her husband the local sheriff. Along with her friends and the rest of her family she must defend the town against any evil that tries to penetrate and disturb the normal every day goings-on. Kinsley has a knack for getting involved in the murders and crimes because a lot of times they have a supernatural element to them. The witches have their own system of justice when a supernatural is involved. When a human is involved it typically falls to her husband. Read on and find out what challenge they must take on this time. A great series and very entertaining.
Although you probably don't have to, I do recommend reading this series in order. Some books have cliffhanger endings and others don't but there's something new or added in almost every book, so it's good to have read them first.
In the last book, the Skeenbauer family gains another familiar through much the same process as Meri, although Bonkers was a familiar he wasn't attached to a witch. He also has multiple personalities, hence the name Bonkers.
As this book opens Kinsley is about to have the grand opening of her new business, Craft Donuts. The opening had me laughing at the antics of Meri and Bonkers and enjoying their interaction with Kinsley and Thorn.
Of course, the opening doesn't go as planned as a body is found on the premise just before the start. Then to make matters worse, a confrontation with the younger generation of witches has Kinsley rethinking her status quo.
We also learn about Meri's past with Bonkers, it really goes a long way back. Hidden sigils are a big part of solving the problem with the witches. However, Reggie teams up with Kinsley to solve the murder.
So much in play here and there are many twists and turns as yet another mystery is solved. Yet not everything is.
The closest we came to a unicorn was Laney and Hekate playing with glitter ponies. The murder mystery and culprit were random. The Fae situation was arbitrary to the book with Laney’s first birthday where two Fae came and gifted her with blessings. Now they are suddenly the enemy?
Seriously disappointed in the final betrayal of the book. Still frustrated about Tangerine and Buffy. Dogs are loyal and cats are fickle. Why the dogs just get left behind? Not even written off. They just magically don’t exist anymore. You’re storyline from book to book is very disjointed.
This series contains light murder mysteries with a healthy dose of humor. Having four cats myself I’m somewhat convinced that they could talk to me if they really wanted and that just makes these books even more amusing. They are generally about a two hour read, I know they won’t make me cry and that makes them great to read when I’m traveling.
Arc review I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. In Coventry thorn Wilson has a new murder at Kingsley new ship the craft donut the and the planet starts school as hekate gets more grandparents time and now they also have to deal with fea.Fantastic story
I have loved this series, but I feel it made Kinsley mousey not her normal self. It jumped all over the place, mentioning Meri s problem but not telling us why he is shrinking. And left us hanging. I hope we find out in the next book. Meri should have her own series. but other than that I'm hooked.
Feels like we're finally getting back to the beginning of the book series where the story is good, the who-dun-it is harder to figure out and then there's the twist at the end that leaves you hanging and really needing the next book in the series. Bonus side is Thorn doesn't play a huge role in the story this time so I feel less hate towards him!
I do find this story line fun, it is also becoming increasingly difficult to continue to read because of all the grammatical errors…someone (besides the author) should be reading through and editing prior to publishing. Or, if someone is already doing this, you need to find someone else. Sorry.
Lots of excitement and mystery looking for a killer of a very bad man that was supposed to be issuing business license and he was making owners angry. A great book and everyone will enjoy it
Sheriff, witch, two daughters and two cat familiars, what a family!😀🤗😍😎
A doughnut shop was going to open but now it can't due to a body found in the restroom! A young witch wants to fight for control of th coven! Love this series and the characters!
This book was highly entertaining and kept me guessing up to the very end. The author has done an excellent job of portraying not only the humans (normal and paranormal), but the cats as well.
This story was good but I need a break from Kinsley and all her murder investigations. At a certain point I find that the reason I keep reading is never gonna come back into the picture and that breaks my heart.
Can't put it down, I started reading this series the past weekend. I now am on the 14th book is this series. Never know what is going to happen. Love the characters especially Bonkers
I love this series, but it seems that the cute little dog just disappeared from the story. It has became a mystery in itself. At one time I thought it would become Merri's side kick.
This was interesting but a little disjointed. Too many stories going on at the same time. I am disappointed. This is the first story I didn't particularly like
This 13th book of the Familiar Kitten series by Sara Bourgeois is a humorous accounting of the coven leader's life with a human husband, two young witch daughters, human friends, and her witchy relatives. I'm greatly enjoying the series.
This was not one of my favorite in the series. It was ok and I am not giving up on this series because I love it but this one just wasn’t my cup of tea.
I also like how you are opening Kinsley to being coven leader. What bugs me is the lack of editing, there are so many mistakes in the books that should be edited.
Nice story Number thirteen in the series and going strong. As always a good plot, interesting characters, and a lovely cliffhanger leaving the reader wanting more.
Unicorn Magic is a fun paranormal cozy mystery. I like the characters and enjoyed getting to see some more magic in this book. The mystery has many surprises. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the next book.
