On second re-read I am surprised how much I have forgotten and maybe that's why it was so enjoyable again.

Absolutely loved this book. Forbidden attraction between a fiancé and the sister of his bride to be.
The story was told to perfection.

Marcus as our hero deserves all five stars. He was smart, thoughtful, never overbearing, never unreasonable yet still a man with strong principles.

“What kind of man made paper birds in the middle of an apology?”
Writes Lara Temple.

Well he does.

And Lily she felt as real as if I was on page. She was a widow who was never pretending to be perfect or virtuous. She was in dire circumstances but never once is it used so we feel pity for her. She was strong and fun and connected with her sexuality.

I loved their dialogues together. I also loved that they were reserved in their words while burning hotly for each other on the inside.

Lara Temple is a fantastic writer who should be selling bestsellers on same level as all the big names in romance.

I've enjoyed this book immensely.
I didn't read the synopsis but I wasn't too surprised by the "triangle" trope because the title is quite revealing. I'm not too fond of this trope but I assure you there isn't cheating.

Lily Walsh, a war widow, goes to London to meet Lord Marcus Sherbourne, her little sister's future husband. They study and assess each other, they are curious after they have heard about each other only from Annie's nice words, and they take a pleasant interest in each other. Will their friendship risk to destroy their families futures?

Lily and Marcus journey is a slow burn journey, they have to think well of their actions because they could disrupt more than their lives. I loved these characters, they feel a strong attranction and they are well assorted, they speak easily to each other, but they are still so considerate towards others.
There isn't nothing to not love in these characters, I wished they find their true happiness without settling for less.

I've read this novel too quickly and now I'm already eagerly anticipating Lara Temple next book. I hope to see one of the supporting character to have his own story.

What happens when you find out you are engaged to the wrong sister? The book is a slow burn interesting story about Lily and Marcus. Great back story regarding Lily and family dynamics. Marcus is a well fleshed out honorable character. Side characters add a lot to the plot. Some steamy parts later in the book with a hea. Definitely recommend. Look forward to reading more by this author.

This was a surprisingly good book. What a hero. He was delicious in many ways. A little too moody for my tastes but a delicious hero nonetheless.

The heroine had a lot to "get over". Hers was a troubled life with misery upon misery. And then she goes and falls in love with her sister's fiance ha!

One thing that surprised me was that even though this was the plot, that part was basically only act 1. Theres so much more after that. As I said, the heroine has had a troubled life and it took the hero quite some effort to have her trust.

I am definitely going to look up more of her books.

Lara Temple offers you a taste of the forbidden in this sexy Regency romance.

Will duty and her past wounds tear them apart …

Oh my!
Such a moving heartbreaking story Mrs Temple just gifted us.
What could have been a love triangle, trope I dislike, angst filled story turned into an emotional journey for both heroes.
Marcus is such an understanding kind and caring fellow, he is not flawless but his qualities outweigh ten thousands times his failing, and it makes him even more human. He chooses a bride to hold on his part of a promise made to his mother before her passing, yet his list to select his perfect countess did not include the choice of the heart.
So he is betrothed to one woman when upon their first encounter he is drawn to another, worse, his future sister-in-law who does not even check much of the items on his list.
Lily has been estranged from her parents for last past years, firstly after her elopement with a man not fitting her mother’s plan then when she left again to take on a position. Even if it has been difficult to leave behind her younger siblings, the two dearest persons to her heart, those she mothered when their own mother has never been one for cuddles or affectionate displays, only cold and judgmental. So it is only because of her sister’s demand, she agreed to visit them.

I loved every minutes of this book, even when I could not read it fast enough to know what will come after. From Lily and Marcus realizing their attraction, to them battling with their feelings, their sentiments of imminent doom and at the same time, Marcus so kind approach of the wounded being Lily is, Lily’s pain and damaged soul, their bickering, bantering and the epiphany of what could be if …

The author has brought to life well fleshed and poignant characters. They are more than the words on the pages. With them, I laughed, swooned, cried, smiled.
I devoured the pages in a few hours like if I was a starved beast, which I was in some way. A day without reading a fiction and this book was like an oasis in the desert, it fed far beyond my need for a beautiful story.
5 stars as there is no higher rating.

Now I hope Wrexham, Marcus’ friend will get his own story. To see him fall would be grandiose.

𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 onscreen lovemaking scenes.

From the very first page, I felt I was seeing this story unfold in my mind with Lara's wonderful pen that creates such sensitive characters and historical atmosphere.

She had made a life for herself, even though her mother had shunned her and wanted her nowhere near. But when her sister requests she come and meet her betrothed, Lily knows she will go to support her.

Marcus, Lord Shelton knew it was time to marry and had chosen Lily's sister, although it was not a love match for either of them, he did respect her. What he never expected was Lily.

A story of the heart that unfolded slowly, this goes of my favorite books this year list. As a side note, I wish I could have given the mother a thorough thrashing!

A really good story, one I very much enjoyed.
Some lovely characters and they built a beautiful relationship.
It’s more of a slower build romance to me, but so rewarding in the end. Emotional and thoughtful moments.
This was one of those books that you lived the journey with the characters, and at the end we’re emotionally connected and spent.
Marcus and Lily really hit the mark, and that is all down to the wonderful penmanship of Lara Temple.
A great read!

I loved this book. I don’t think I have ever read a more heartfelt, romantic and sensual exposition of the process of falling in love. From strong physical attraction and magnetic awareness of the other person to a mutual delight in each other’s company, an ease of communication and an ability to make each other laugh, these early steps draw the reader in. As Max and Lily get to know each other better, there comes understanding, admiration, tenderness, a sense of “rightness” and an all-consuming desire to be together. It was a joy to watch their story unfold.
However, the obstacles to their “Happy Ever After” are quite considerable: not least that the hero is betrothed to the heroine’s sister. How could two decent, honourable people solve this problem with grace and without harm to the innocent party? It is down to the author’s skill that all parties emerge with dignity and honour intact.
Max and Lily are wonderfully drawn characters. I especially like that Lily is not in the first flush of youth and she reminds me of the best Georgette Heyer heroines. A soldier’s widow, she has wide experience of life’s joys and heartbreaks. The latter have taken their toll and have changed her. She has also made mistakes and learnt from them, although she still lacks confidence in her own judgement. Despite her mother’s coldness and disapproval, Lily has carved out an independent life for herself. It is her maturity, intelligence, sense of humour and self-knowledge make her an interesting and equal match for Max.
I defy anyone not to fall in love with Max. He is gorgeous – inside and out. His intrinsic decency shines through in his dealings with Anne and her family. He may not love her (not a requirement for Regency marriage) but he fully intends to do his best by her and would not renege on his commitment to her. However, he had not expected to fall in love and certainly not with his fiancée's sister. I enjoyed watching him fight what he thinks is just physical attraction. And yet, as his relationship with Lily progresses, he shows us more and more of his heart-melting characteristics. He is clever, compassionate, sensitive, protective, funny, artistic and family orientated: qualities that I find so, so sexy.
The last third of the book is almost exclusively devoted to the denouement of Max and Lily’s love story. It is a rare luxury to spend so much time in their company, watching them edge towards a satisfying “happy ever after”. There is so much warmth, affection, humour, passion and understanding between them that the reader is willing them to break down the final defences that bar their way. For me, this was a truly wonderful read. It brought me so much joy and pleasure. I just loved it.

Lara Temple's characters shine in this tale of longing looks, stolen moments, and inconvenient--but irrepressible--desire. Lily and Marcus are both deeply good, honorable people, and their conflict stems from the clash between their attraction to one another and their desire to do the right thing (as they see it) for their loved ones. Their chemistry is clear from the moment they meet, with plenty of pining and lots of excellent banter. Swoon-worthy moments, some real struggles with past pain, and splashes of humor round out both the characters and the story.
Oh, and I loved Wrexham and hope his book is next.

CW for PTSD for both characters (especially Lily) and loss of a child in the past.

I would like to start this review by saying the Lily's mom was a major See You Next Tuesday.

Anyway, onto the book.

I see why it has such postive reviews. Lara Temple writes beautifully! Such a romantic book! If I had been in a different mood I could see myself swooning, but since I was in a darker mood, I didn't faint from all the romance fumes. BUT, if you want a dreaming, angsty romance- then read this.

I generally shy away from books where one character is engaged/betrothed to someone else because they make me uncomfortable, what with the Eau de Cheating and the inevitable hurt feelings of at least one person. For those who feel the same about this trope, I promise there is none of that here: It helps that the betrothal between the hero and the heroine's sister is a straight up marriage-of-convenience.

The two MCs had great chemistry, and I loved watching them try to fight their attraction to one another.

There were some great secondary characters including a very shy dog, a nerdy brother, and a rake-with-hidden-depths best friend who I hope gets his own book someday.

I truly enjoyed this book! As Merry said in her review the characters and backstory and families are very dynamic, flushed out and for me consistent. Dating, engaged to the wrong person is one of my favorite tropes. And this was handled so well.

You could see the relationship between these 2 grow. It's a slow burn but lots of chemistry and great banter. I easily liked that she was a widow, as they are not often the main love interest. How he handled her mother, and took an interest in having Emma with then was wonderful.
I enjoyed the side characters and will definitely read more by this author.

The Earl She Should Never Desire is a Regency romance set in London. Lily Walsh is a widow living in Birmingham; her younger sister begs her to travel to London to spend a few summer weeks with her. Anne is engaged to be married and Lily is delighted for her, but she wonders if Anne is truly happy.

Lord Sherbourne is pleased to meet Anne’s sister after hearing much about her, but she isn’t the person he had imagined. It troubles him that he feels more drawn to Lily than Anne, but he’s a man of honour and he can’t back out of the wedding now.

I enjoyed getting to know Lily and finding that she had a passionate side under her practical dresses. The author has done a fine job of creating the sisters as opposites. Outwardly Anne is the pretty one who has been groomed to be a society wife. Lily is the black sheep, the one her mother finds a disappointment. I wasn’t sure how the story would work out at the half-way mark, but I was very keen to keep turning the pages to find out. Lily has a troubled past that she must work through and she needs a friend who she can trust to be there for her at all times. The little fears which kept popping up were understandable and I particularly liked the final setting; it felt very appropriate. A great story and a wonderful set of characters.

3.5 stars. Quite a nice read about a couple who fell in love with an inappropriate person. Marcus was engaged to Anne in a planned marriage of convenience. But when he met Anne's widowed sister Lily, the two were immediately attracted to each other, and against both of their better judgement, gradually fell in love.

I liked the way the writer dealt with the plot line, and the solution to Marcus ending his engagement honourably worked quite well. In the end, everyone got their HEA.

This was a December 2023 BOTM for Historical Romance Book Club, widow or widower trope.

Attention fans of Bridgerton Season 2! If you love th oh-no-I-am-marrying-the-wrong-sister trope, here is a great example for you. Wonderful characters, a complex plot, and deftly written descriptions and dialogue make The Earl She Should Never Desire a terrific Regency romance.
Widowed Lily Walsh travels to London to help her younger sister, Anne, prepare for her wedding to Marcus, Lord Sherbourne. The marriage is not a love match, but Anne and Marcus like each other well enough and feel that marrying is a good idea. The complications begin when Lily and Marcus discover a forbidden attraction. In spite of Anne’s beauty and innocence, Marcus finds he prefers Lily’s intelligence and determination. How do two ethical people fight a love that will hurt everyone?

The Earl She Should Never Desire is the first book I have read by Lara Temple. Apparently, I have been missing out. It is a compelling, lovely story, cleverly written. I normally read at a steady pace, but occasionally a book drives me to read much faster. This is that kind of book. Lily and Marcus were solid characters and I admired their witty banter and mature thinking. Marcus’s friend, Lord Wexham, was an intriguing character that I would love to see in his own story. I loved everything about this excellent book.

The story of this gorgeous book is quite easy to summarize: Marcus is engaged to Lily’s sister, but they are both attracted to each other… The path to a happy ending is quite a difficult one, but reading about it is more than worthwhile!
I don’t know why I never read anything by Lara Temple before. Now I feel I missed out on a great writer and I definitely feel the NEED to read all her other books. I can’t say how much I’ve enjoyed this book, in particular the clever banter between the characters. And their thoughts as well! They provided an insight in their feelings that was at times amusing and heartrending. It’s really a perfect book, with the right amount of angst, yearning, passion, humor. Lily and Marcus’s love is slow burn, but when it starts to burn… Wow! There’s such chemistry between the characters, such longing! And for once I loved both from the very start: no rakes to redeem or vapid girls that need to grow up, but two adult characters with issues to solve and the maturity to look for the right way to do it. A five star read!

Lily had a problematic relationship with her mom and eloped at 17 with a soldier. After her husband died, she remained distant from her family but agreed to join them in London to meet her sister's new fiance.

Her sister's engagement was not a love match, but her fiance, Lord Sherborne, was content with his choice despite his fiancee's complicated family.

Lord Sherborne was such a gentleman! I loved him from page one. He was misguided in his marriage ambitions, but he was always honorable, even when he realized his mistake.

The falling for your sister's man trope is not always my favorite, but I think this one was well done. There was the right amount of guilt, no cheating, and the tension was very satisfying.

Another great read by Lara Temple.

Where do I start?

How about with: The historical romance trope of the hero falling in love with the sister of the woman to whom he is betrothed has been done many, many times. However, in the hands, or rather keyboard of Lara Temple it becomes totally original and fresh.

Or perhaps I could just repeat what I’ve said in reviews of Ms. Temple’s previous books for Harlequin/M&B – that they are a cut above the average offering in their historical romance line.

But that would be a cop out.

When the story opens Lily Walsh is a war widow teaching at Hope House in Birmingham (Hope House is mentioned in a couple of previous books by Lara Temple). Marcus is engaged to her younger sister – it’s 100% a marriage of convenience. Lily travels to London at the request of her sister and meets Marcus, Lord Sherbourne, for the first time and life for either of them will never be the same again.

As I said, this trope has been used before. What makes it so fresh and original is that Lily and Marcus are so real, there are so many layers to each of them. There are some parts (I can’t mention which parts as they would be major spoilers) that actually hurt to read and brought tears to my eyes. And yet there were other parts that made me laugh out loud spontaneously.

Of the secondary characters Dominic, Lord Wrexham, stands head and shoulders above the rest. I hope he gets his own book.

Do I recommend The Earl She Should Never Desire ? I would recommend the back of a cereal box if Lara Temple wrote it! But if you want to cry, laugh, and have your heart flutter instead of reading the ingredients in your cereal then you definitely have to read Marcus and Lily’s story.

Lara Temple’s historical fiction novels are not to be missed… and this one is no exception.

I know the idea of the ‘love triangle’ trope can be off-putting… worse yet, it’s between sisters! But I promise you, it’s not quite like that!

Lily and Annie have the most beautiful, supportive relationship and they really only want to do their duty to their family and to each other. Part of that duty is supporting each other in finding true love.

I loved the relationship between the sisters and even baby brother, Piers. Their bond is all the stronger due to the harsh and unkind ways of their mother and less than attentive father. One of my favourite lines is where Marcus asks the sisters if they’re sure they are not foundlings as they are so much more loving and charming than their critical, conniving mother.

Then there’s Lily and Marcus. Of course, theirs is a slow burn affair due to his engagement to her sister. However, when things become possible, the fireworks explode and the romance that was blossoming comes into full bloom. The witty banter between the two is mere foreplay to the fire within…

Another fantastic tale of love, historical delight and by Lara Temple.

Lily is a war widow scarred from the war. She teaches veterans and their families in Birmingham. She is devoted to her younger siblings, and when her sister, the toast of society despite the family's lack of wealth, asks her to London to meet her future husband, she cannot refuse. Marcus promised his mother that he would marry. Anne is beautiful and will make a good mother. A marriage of convenience is fine until he meets Lily.

I enjoyed this Regency romance full of wit and sizzling desire tempered by honour. A sparkling forbidden attraction between Lily and Marcus remains unrequited because of her love for her sister and his sense of integrity. The plot is simple but effective, and the reader hopes for a happy ending but is never sure it will be until the emotional and romantic conclusion.

Called to London for her sister's wedding in two months, Lily is attracted to her sister Anne's fiancé. Feeling guilty of her growing feelings, she tries to stay away from Marcus. Marcus cannot stop thinking about Lily. He tries to stay away, but finds himself including Lily while courting Anne. Marcus and Lily-fox are honest with each other. Every time you think one of them will lie to the other, it doesn't happen. When a solution presents itself, will they take it?

I felt totally transported back to regency London with its airs, graces and society etiquette. This is a slow burning romance as there was the delicate situation of the Earl being betrothed to another, Lily’s sister. However, it was clear from the start that the Earl had not chosen his bride out of love but a bad situation dealt a wondrous introduction of two hearts who found the magnetic pull between them so difficult to deny.
Lara Temple has written a wonderful tale of love, fate and understanding with characters that are very likeable. There’s a great rapport between the main characters and the sub characters bringing light and humour. Enjoyable read.

Lara Temple has done it again: She has delivered another fabulous romance with characters that are not afraid to be different. I like that about her stories.

Widowed Lily Walsh lives a quiet life in Birmingham, teaching former soldiers and their families. It is a worthwhile job, but not one that provides her with a comfortable life. Not that that is what she's looking for. She is quite content to be far away from her mother's sharp tongue and open disappointment.

When her younger sister, Annie, begs her to come to London, to meet her new fiancé, Lily obligingly travels to stay with her family, despite her mother's disapproval. Then she meets Annie's fiancé, and her heart is thrown into turmoil.

Although she knows the marriage will be one of convenience – Annie's had three expensive seasons and plenty of offers and Lord Sherborne needs to marry before he turns 35 (a promise to his late mother) and found Annie ticking all the boxes on his list – Lily can't help falling for the man. And it seems he is returning her feelings. What a dilemma!

I thoroughly enjoyed the plot twists in this story (which I won't reveal, for obvious reasons).

Lily is a character forged by her past. Her elopement and subsequent marriage to a soldier, and their estrangement following tragedy. She keeps her fears locked away, but Marcus has a way to draw them out.

I liked Marcus. He's intelligent, but caught in his own trap – the promise he made to his dying mother. While he pretends to think Annie fulfils all the necessary criteria, he realises during his conversations with Lily that the independent woman has far more to offer him, even to the detriment of his planned future life.

The Earl She Should Never Desire is a beautiful story, full of flawed characters who try to do their best for themselves, but ultimately fate has other plans for them. The setting is meticulously researched as Ms Temple portrays Regency London vividly and realistically, down to the minutest detail. It all creates a well-rounded impression of the times.

My only point would be that we don't see Lily's family's reaction near the end. That's one scene I'd have loved to see! There is plenty of sizzling tension between Lily and Marcus, though, which shows off the development of their growing relationship very well.

The ending was intriguing, and I thought it added a lovely touch to the story. It was very moving.

A very enjoyable read!

A new historical romance by Lara Temple is always a major cause for celebration for me and this outstanding storyteller is back with a sensual, sumptuous and scintillating tale of forbidden passion, impossible attraction and dangerous desire that will blow readers away.

When Lily Walsh had left her aristocratic family and her life in London behind, she never imagined that she would return ever again. But when her sister begs her to come to London to meet her fiancé, Lily is left with no other choice but to acquiesce to Anne’s request. Lily is braced for the challenges ahead, however, she never imagined that the greatest obstacle of all would be falling head over heels in love with a man she could never have…

The marriage between Anne and Marcus, Lord Sherbourne might not be a love match, but Lily is positive that her sister has made a good choice in accepting this proposal. As she begins to get to know her prospective brother-in-law, Lily is immediately struck by Lord Sherbourne’s intelligence, kindness, humility and generosity. Lily is sure that her sister will be very happy with her soon-to-be husband – even if with each passing day, she begins to find herself attracted to him. The last thing Lily wants is to cause a scandal and ruin her sister’s plans, but as her feelings for Marcus intensify, will she manage to keep her feelings for him bottled up for the sake of her family? Or will loyalty to her sister end up costing her the man who has come to mean everything to her?

Lara Temple is such a talented writer of historical romance and she never fails to create a rich, colourful and vivid world that completely enchants her readers. In The Earl She Should Never Desire, she has written an emotional, dramatic and poignant romantic tale liberally peppered with wit, heart and humour I simply couldn’t read fast enough.

Lara Temple’s evocation of the past is exceptional and Lily and Marcus’ love story is one that will hold readers in thrall with a beguiling blend of intensity, pathos and passion.

A gorgeous historical romance from a brilliantly talented writer, Lara Temple’s captivating new novel, The Earl She Should Never Desire is not to be missed.

This forbidden love story made my heart pound from the very first encounter between Lily and Marcus, Lord Sherbourne to the last. Such a beautiful plot!
Lily’s great fondness for her sister makes her agree to visit her in London to accompany and asses Lord Sherbourne herself before they wed. At the first encounter, Lily is uncertain regarding Marcus’ characters because the way her sister outlining him is rather different from her views however their banter seems to strongly allure each other into forbidden desire. When Marcus is determined to choose Annie, Lily’s sister, as his perfect wife to grant his mother wish, he otherwise is unable to let Lily out of his mind and suffers his yearning for Lily.

I kept telling my self, oh please gave Marcus and Lily their happily ever after because every time they suffer from their forbidden desire, I couldn’t imagine what would become of them and that was when Lara Temple blew the peak of the story that made me turn the pages over and over. Thanks Lara Temple and especially Annie!

Marcus and Lily kept entertaining me with their banter and slow-burn sensual Midsummer kisses which Marcus insists as the payment. As their discreet bond rapidly grows, Lily is afraid of something that she cannot give to Marcus because of what she had bore after having married her deceased husband yet he patiently lures her.

I must admit that Lara Temple’s writing has bewitched me. The wordplay, the richly detailed arts, history and quotes, and the electric sexual tension captured all my attention. The expanding characters which were introduced from the beginning and they had clear roles, and gradually narrowed and focused on Marcus and Lily were so appealing, especially Lily’s overdramatic annoying Mother. It is truly wonderful read. Thank you, Lara Temple, for this ARC which I voluntary review.

It feels way too long since I read a Lara Temple book -why must we wait so long!!!

I felt like crying when this beauty landed in my inbox, but it’s here and it was worth every torturous second of the wait!!

This is great – I mean really, really great – in fact great isn’t the appropriate word for how gorgeous this book is, it’s like opening your favourite box of chocolates you feel the same tingle of happiness, excitement and overwhelming, huge heart-eyed love. (and yes I do fall in love with every box of chocolates I open, especially when I find the strawberry cream or a piece of fudge 😉)

I am in utter love with this couple, Lily really spoke to me she follows her heart instead of the claustrophobic tonish rules, which (in the eyes of her viper of a mother) means she is a bit odd, she has ostracized herself and mostly embarrassed and brought to shame to the family. The only person bringing shame to this family is the wasp that heads it.

Do not get me started on that woman!!

Lily is a wonderful woman, she followed her heart as well as followed the drum, she married for love instead of status. She gave everything up for love; the life she knew, her family, her friends; everything for her soldier. Unfortunately, her life is sent spiralling, her heartbroken by events out of her control and soon widowed Lily retires to Birmingham where she settles into a life of teaching, in an attempt to try to heal her heart. I loved her devotion to her cause, her kindness and her compassion she is a shining light in many people’s lives.

When she receives a letter from her beloved sister Anne that she is to be married and desperately wants her sister by her side, Lily knows she can’t hide away forever, so she packs up her troubles in her old carpetbag and smiles, smiles, smiles and makes her way to London.

She realises that this trip isn’t going to be easy, facing her mother again is not going to be easy, especially as they have never had the best relationship to start with, but she is excited for her sister and curious about her new brother-in-law.

But the moment she sets eyes on Marcus, she knows that this trip is a very bad idea, she becomes instantly attracted to the dashing, predatory, cool-as-a-cucumber and charismatic; Lord Sherbourne. She knows her feelings for him are all wrong, she won’t allow her attraction to him hurt her sister, even though she has seen the twinkling in those golden eyes.

Speaking of his eyes, I have become a little obsessed with them, and so did Lily…

His eyes were a strange golden amber, or that might be a trick of the afternoon sun cutting in from the west, Tigerish eyes. Even more perfect for Eleanors villainous counts…

…and then he smiled and moved towards her, a subtle sliding motion that went well with the tiger image. Or was it a pantha? Both.

Oh, Marcus!! Marcus, Marcus, Marcus…..this man could ruin any woman with blood running through their veins. 🔥

Yes, he does come across as stoic and distant, but that is because of the heavy weight he is carrying upon those wide shoulders. For our Marcus needs to marry, he needs a nice little wife who will do his bidding and allow fulfil a promise and Lady Anne is a perfect choice, she is kind, beautiful, a proper little lady and perfect to become his wife and to handle all which is thrown at her. But Lily is far more alluring, he is curious about her, the green-eyed monster raising its head on a fair few occasions (especially when his friend the dashing Dominic pays her far too much attention – we will speak of him later). He is a rake, or ruthless, he refuses to allow his baser more animalistic feelings towards Lily hurt his soon to be wife, but he can’t stop the yearning and crackle in the atmosphere whenever she is around.

I loved watching both of them fight with their inner demons, both are good people and either want to hurt others, but neither can deny that their hearts beat wildly whenever the other is around!

I have to mention how much I loved Marcus’s thing about making origami birds it’s a little innocuous and doesn’t fit with the steely mask he wears but’s so sweet – plus his paper birds will go well with my paper roses 🥰

I have to mention the dragon – Every time Lily’s mother stepped onto the scenes I instantly felt on guard for lily she is a horrendous woman a prim and proper pain in the arse; all sweetness and like on the outside but inside she has a cold heart of a spitting cobra honestly couldn’t like her attitude towards Lily rubbed me up the wrong way.

Now onto far more pleasant subjects – Ahh Dominic – this guy needs a story!!! I really really really (i could go on) liked Dominic he stole every scene he eas in he’s cheeky charismatic, and a proper rake in all sense of the words but I am suspecting there is more going on beneath the surface, he is naturally funny he is a good-natured charmer with a saucy streak.

I adored everything about this book, it has Lara Temple stamped it with her classical and dazzling romantic flair. The story moves forward at a steady pace, there is no rushing it glides along through the waters of emotion and love. I am in love with Lily and Marcus, they are made for each other, each having to wade through lots of inner turmoil before they can accept that this path together is the one they should be on.

The moral of the story is that the road from love to true love is never easy, but can be achieved, no matter watch roadblocks you bump into.

This is an experience, from the first page you feel as though you have been pulled through the pages and you are breathing in every aspect of this gorgeous and captivating story. There is so much to love about this story, there are moments which will have you sighing deeply at the tenderness, plus those which will break your heart and leave you feeling a little teary.

Above all else, it’s a magical and thought-provoking love story, one which will steal your heart.
