She was given as a bride. She will be claimed as his mate.
Though Llyr recognized Ivy as his mate by her scent alone, he asked her father for her hand before carrying her off like a beast. But his plans for his new bride are far from gentlemanly...
Ivy's beautiful virgin body will belong to him in every way, and Llyr's firm hand applied to her bare bottom as often as necessary will teach her that he expects to be obeyed as both her husband and alpha. But to truly tame her, he will need to do more than just mark and claim his mate.
I'm a spicy author, born on base in Bethesda, lived in Louisiana where most of my family still resides, and currently in New Jersey. By day I'm a caregiver, but by night I write surrounded by my fiance, who I couldn't do this without, and my ferrets. Aka noodle cats, carpet sharks, and sock puppies Forky and Misty. I specialize in shifter romance and have many more books in the works ❤️
I really wanted to like this book and I think parts of it had great potential but in the end there was just something off with it. I never really felt the bond between the two characters that was supposed to be there. A perfect example of that was when she asked him to fight other shifters for her. That just made no sense to me because they were already together at this point. They had already mated, why would she risk him being killed just to satisfy her ego. Didn’t really get it.

This is a sequel of sorts to Carried Off: An Alpha Shifter Romance. Here, the Alpha Shifter son of the previous book's MC finds his human mate, Ivy. She's attracted to him, too, but will others' prejudice and fear come between them? Note: Though this is a stand-alone in terms of the couple, it references the first book. In addition, perhaps because many reviewers objected to the non-con in Carried Off, this is much more consensual -- which will please some and displease others depending on how much they love "dark."
I sort of liked the first one; sadly, I cannot recommend this. I'll begin with the positives: the characters are likeable; the women strong and endowed with agency (a big plus in a sub-genre where they often have none); and the theme of xenophobia and hatred/fear of the "other" very timely in our increasingly intolerant world.
Unfortunately, the uneven pace (too slow and repetitious in the beginning and too rushed at the end); simplistic sentence structure (I believe the author was going for an old-fashioned, fairy tale- or fable-like voice, but it just felt juvenile); and typos/grammatical errors/wrong word choices took me out of the story so often that I almost DNFed. This last, in particular, grated on me. Although none were glaring, they were like a thousand paper cuts; I began wondering if the author wasn't a native English speaker (which would be fine if she had used an editor). Some examples include: "a slight twinkle of curiosity;" "he mused about the memories;" "established his clear contact;" "it may warrant you;" "Goodly girls;" "grumbled in agreeance;" etc.
Finally, I want to say in general that complaining about grammar, punctuation, etc. may seem unimportant and nitpicky. I note that many other readers don't care about --or at least they don't mention -- this. And that's fine; to each their own. But indie authors often complain (not this one, as far as I know) that they aren't taken as seriously as those published by the big publishing companies and, this, quite frankly, is one big reason. It's impossible to respect an author who cares so little about their craft that they don't even run spell-check and it's impossible to respect an indie publishing company that cares so little about their product that they can't even bother to copyedit.
'Married Off' by Raven Willow is the second book in her Taken Mates series and tells the story of Llyr, a wolf shifter and pack alpha, and Ivy, his human mate. Llyr's father, Alistair, the former pack Alpha, had cultivated an alliance with the humans who lived near the pack. They lived in peace and even mated with humans for years but over time the alliance was forgotten and the humans became fearful of the pack and pulled away because of their differences. These days neither have that much to do with other.
Until one fall day Llyr could smell a lily, which were not in season, and he realized it was his mate. Llyr came across some women working in the fields and figured his mate was one of them. His wolf recognized Ivy as his mate by her scent alone. Llyr knew Ivy was an innocent and he wanted to make her family, especially her father, comfortable so he decided to court her as a human and get married then mate her as a shifter.
Ms. Willow has written a compelling addition to her series. The story begins with Llyr and Ivy's courtship and continues with the ups and downs they endure to make their relationship a reality. The story is emotional, with some angst, laughs, secrets, family issues, passion, and plenty of steam. I enjoyed this book and recommend it to anyone who likes some bite with their romance.

Married off? Nope, not here. Fated and mated. Our couple were meant to be together. Lovely couple, action, steamy scenes!
Sensing his mate, our H tried to take his time with her, letting her get used to him. He tried and couldn't help but doing a little touching along the way. Very sweet, very sensual. It truly was courting, but with more heat! She gives in, still insecure, but they fall in love and grow together as they struggle with dangerous rivals and family security.
This is my very 1st book by this author and it will not be the last! I am so thrilled to have read a book by her, what a great story! Family, romance, heat. It also felt old-world, which I adore. I loved each and every character and look forward to more books. My only bad moment was one scene where the bad guys physically got their hands on her. However it wasn't written tramatically. Other than that, this is how you write a book! Characters that you want to read more about, future and past stories that you're anticipating, high heat level-very, very well-done!

This book is set in the same world as "Carried Off". In that book, the relationship between the main characters started off on a dub-con/non-con basis. It really walked the line. In this one we see the shifter, Lyr, make an effort to woo his human fate-mate, Ivy, in the human way. The gentle and sweet way he winds the shy girl over definitely scores him points in the eyes of her family and herself as before too long they are we'd.
But not all the humans are happy with the relationship. Some believe the shifters are little more than beasts and Ivy's family is marked beast- lovers. Can the new couple protect their pack from the disquiet and Ivy's family, too?
It's a steamy story with elements of D/s as well as some Light BDSM. Though there are steamy scenes., the plot is well told with well rounded

This is a sweet romantic story for Llyr and Ivy. There is a good background revealed as you read about the main characters Llyr and Ivy. I agree with the other reviewers that the domestic discipline used in this story is mild compared with the other books for this troupe. Llyr is so respectful, alpha, but strict for obedience. He takes the time to court Ivy and win her heart. Also Llyr made time to explain the difference to Ivy in culture and what would be expected of her as the mate of an Alpha. I was confused by one area when Ivy asked Llyr to battle in duels for her. This did not fit in that moment of the story because these two were already ceremonially married in the human way plus mated in the wolf way. Besides if Llyr lost he would not be unable to give up Ivy because they already mated and had a bond newly formed. Read On!
Married Off: An Alpha Shifter Romance H-Llyr (Alpha) h-Ivy (Human) So the Alpha was strolling in the forest when he smelled his mate who was Ivy. Apparently the village had a truce with the wolves who they would be able to take the human they have mated with, but that soon would end. We have a very innocent Ivy who is a virgin and hasn't done anything that is considered improper. Llyr I actually like him and I like that he is very patient with her. But the story got a little boring with chapters and chapters of her insecurities even though he hasn't given her any doubts of his love for her. I stopped reading on chapter 34 when the story went to her sister Cassandra. I don't like that.. if the story of Llyr and Ivy was done then finish the book don't just start a whole new chapter with a new character. I was getting bored already anyways
Llyr is the alpha of the wolfs. He knows that Ivy is his mate by her smell but since she is human he will court her like a human. This is a steam story with a D/s theme, action, he was very protective, dispenses spankings, and has a dominate nature. They have to work through the hatred of a human marrying a beast. Will they be able to protect Ivy's family and the pack? This is the first book I've read by this author. I'm looking forward to more of her stories. Good storyline, enjoyed the Alpha and his mate Ivy. He adores her, catches her scent and knows she is his m ate, she on the other hand has a bit of low self esteem. There is conflict with a local man, who has been wanting to marry Ivy, but she is not interested. Close to the end is a surprise twist I didn't see coming. No cliffhanger and has a HEA. I didn't notice any typos, like I do in a lot of stories. .Sherrie
A new twist on a familiar subject. Very good story. Set in a time when wolves and humans have a treaty promising peace between them. But, as usual, humans decide to break the peace. This is a wonderful love story with very interesting characters. I enjoyed it immensely. Great job!
The second book in the Taken Mates series a well written story that held my interest throughout. Llyr and human Ivy's story has spankings and rough, intense sexual scenes I enjoyed reading. This is a new Author to me. I want to read the first book. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
When I first started reading this book and he started wooing her it seemed to drag, so I put the book down. BUT, it ended up being a damn-good book. Ms Raven you impressed me and kept my attention to the point of me not wanting to put the book down. Marvelously well done. Thank You.
An Alpha Shifter Romance Llyr knew Ivy was his fated mate as soon as he saw her. Even though they were anxious to start their new lives together there is unfinished bus that needs to be resolved… I received a free copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily.
Llyr & ivy’s story was intriguing from the very beginning to the end. It had so many unexpected twists and turns. I can’t wait to see what unfolds next for each of ivy’s sisters,
