Sam’s future lies in the past but like Sisyphus, changing history is a punishment he must continue to pay. When Sam discovers a timepod containing a cryptic note from the future, he chooses to fulfill his destiny and restore the timeline rather than allowing the government to confiscate his discovery. After failing to change the course of human events on a grand scale, Sam crisscrosses time to modify historical events on a smaller scale. Earning the moniker of “The Phantom Seer”, Sam discovers that even the smallest stone can create a broad ripple in the ocean of time. For Sam, a single choice can save the lives of millions but endanger his own. How much is a single life worth?

This is a time traveling tale that moves at the speed of light. In more than one way. Simply terrific. Sam is from the future. But the future is a high tech 1984. AI oppression has subjugated humanity to a repressive state in both thought and deed. Sam has had enough and somehow ends up with a time traveling capsule in his barn. He decides to use it and go back in time to see if he can change where humanity went wrong. It’s a tall order, but one where he is willing to sacrifice his very life for. He meets a who’s who of the most influential folk to ever walk the face of planet Earth. This short story has an almost Bill and Ted feel to it, but with much deeper consequences. I love time travel stories and found JD Edwards The Phantom Seer to be intriguing and well written. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves Science Fiction and especially time travel.
Sam Miller finds a time travel machine in his barn, and even though this future has strict rules (including a penalty of death) is determined to try it out.
Where would you go first if you had one? How about the Garden of Eden? And what if that didn’t go so well? Fascinating tale of redemption in this short story.
This novella is a clever meld of time travel and sci fi with a breakneck trip through the Garden of Eden, the Garden of Gethsemane, Ancient Egypt and the home of Leonardo da Vinci. It is a thought - provoking, well written, redemptive tale and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Recommended.
Science fiction is my favorite genre, stories about time travel are at the top of that list also. This story entertained me completely. It was fun and dealt with historical events in a gentle manner. The author did a marvelous job of incorporating events and themes from the Bible also. No spoilers from me! I give this story 4.9 stars.
