The world has been consumed by chaos and darkness.
With General Askos claiming himself the emperor of the entire continent and holding Queen Boudica hostage, Prince Aiden and those loyal to him are on the run again, this time with nowhere in Etilidus to hide. As if things weren't chaotic enough, the darkness has begun to cause earth shattering, once-in-a-generation extreme weather events to erupt with increasing frequency and destructive power. Now that the world's magic is more out of balance than ever before, it's become a race against the clock and nature itself as Vivilyn and company scramble to find a way to defeat Askos once and for all.
In this final battle against the forces of darkness, will they be able to save the entire world from annihilation before it crumbles in on itself?
This missed the mark in so many ways for me. The beginning felt like an entire book was missing and the errant timeline continued throughout the book. For a final in a long series, it was almost completely void of action and drama. A few sentences and the two biggest moments were over and done. So many times it felt like there was a lot going on while no progress was actually being made. The story itself wasn’t progressing, it just felt like unrelated filler. It felt lackluster when I wanted a grand finale. The epilogue was fine, but almost too detailed (I do not need a million new names of everyone’s children) and, again, the timeline was non-existent. “Ten years later” actually meant anywhere from ten to sixty years later. Sigh.
