Grand Slam #2

Raine Out

Rate this book
A steamy romantic comedy.

A driven career woman who has no time for love. A professional baseball player who has no desire for commitment. But when they come together for their friends’ island wedding, the mesmerizing beach breezes have them wanting to find time for each other—if only for one steamy weekend.

"This is a laugh out loud, fun, and sexy second book in The Grand Slam series. It takes place at Seb and Sophie's (Truth or Tequila) wedding. I’ve been waiting for Raine’s story and it is fantastic. Love all the cameo appearances from the characters in the Trident Trilogy and Alex…oh Alex!! Butch steals the show and I really hope he gets his own book. The banter between him and Raine will have you laughing out loud." Amazon Review

Raine
I haven’t spent much time with Sophie since we were kids. When we started high school, we headed in different directions and never looked back. She invited me to her wedding this weekend. I don’t want to go because despite all our years apart, I know one thing hasn’t changed: her mission to find me the perfect man. I’ve told her I don’t have time for dating, but she never listens. I’m guessing she’s going to be pushing some guy at me the minute I get off the plane.

Alex
My teammate Seb’s getting married this weekend. I’m happy for him, but I can’t relate to it at all. He wants to spend the rest of his life with Sophie. I don’t even want to spend the rest of the night with the women who end up in my bed. I’m fine with that, but for some reason, Sophie’s not. Even with my best efforts to stop it, she’s been trying to find me love since the day we met. She told me one of her childhood friends is coming to the wedding, so I’m guessing that’s who I’ll be hiding from all weekend.

It’s all fun and games until someone catches feelings. Let the games begin.

"Another win! Kickass characters, witty banter, strong female lead and a great story that sucks you in and has you rooting for Raine and Alex before they even meet. Can’t wait for the next one in the series!" Amazon Review

"So funny! Butch is the character that I didn't know I needed in my life! This book can definitely be read alone, but you'll love it so much more if you read the Trident Trilogy and Truth or Tequila first." Amazon Review

"I want to know everything about you. And I'm not going to stop learning about you after this weekend. This is just the beginning for me."

but honestly they already came to know a lot about each other over seb and soph's wedding. it was so cute seeing them again and how well they were doing and how they talk about their love for each other. this bo0k brought everything their's did with just a little less i feel. i did have higher expectations that weren't exactly met.

there was a lot more misogynistic men and jealous women. honestly so aggravating and i didn't see the need for guys to be constantly making out women to be nothing but objects. just yuck. their love story was fine don't get me wrong, but what was happening outside of it was a no from me.

alex and raine are basically the same person, and like seb and sophie, their interest is almost immediate. but i did like that they were trying to be shoved together, but in their own way came to know each other. when they're both smart and like to read!!!!!!! there just wasn't much growth for them but i did think they're a great match for each other.

anyways, the drama pissed me off, but the romance made up for it. there was a lot of confusion at the end for no reason, but ig it's cause it was setting up for them in one of donna's future books. i'll probably end up reading butch's book No One Wants That cause he was a really interesting character. i also liked how raine was able to reconnect with sophie and maisie and show that they don't have to have such asshole friends.

addictiveness: 4/5 read rly fast
sadness: 1.25/5 only discussed a few topics that people struggle with
characters: 3.75/5 i hate a lot of people in this book
setting: 3.75/5 i wish i was there
plot: 3.5/5 liked the idea
plot execution: 3/5 but the follow through wasn't there for me
writing: 4/5 still super funny
romance: 4/5 the same person
comedy/banter: 4.25/5 from the moment they met
smut: 3/5 a little more than last book

overall: 3.5/5 but a 3/5 trying to be harsher with my ratings but it was a fun book!! just not incredible or very different.

I loved writing Raine Out because so many characters from my earlier books made appearances. It's like getting together and catching up with old friends.

Raine Out is the second book of The Grand Slam Series that starts with Truth or Tequila: A steamy romantic comedy.. It crosses over with characters from The Trident Trilogy (Eight Years, The Only Reason, Wild Card).

*spoilers ahead*

This book was filled with a lot of cringe moments that I’m surprised I got through. I felt like everyone was either talking badly about Sophie or complimenting her assets behind her back. She needs new friends. Seb was also so annoying and clingy with her too.

Raine and Alex’s relationship also went from 0 to 100. I was not a fan of how fast paced that was.

And the cherry on top was the childish twist at the end. It made zero sense and didn’t need to be there at all.

Since book 3 of the series is about Butch, I’ll hold off on it. I’m not crazy about this series at all.

No suprise here that I loved this book just as much as Truth And Tequila and may have even loved these characters just as much as well! I absolutely adored Alex and Raines love story. Neither one of them are really looking for love but without even trying they found it in each other. We even see characters from the first book which was really exciting. And Butch, I didn't know I needed him in my life. If you like opposites attract then pick this one up!

5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I haven't read book 1 #TruthOrTequila in this interconnected rom com series, but the synopsis for this one sounded way too good to pass up and boy it was a FANTASTIC book and I am definitely going to read the first one as well eventually.

Now, let’s get into why #RaineOut was perfect. I connected with the characters from page one and I mean not only the main characters Raine and Alex, but all of them including all of the side characters that were only there for Raine’s first chapter. The whole group dynamic, both of all the SEALs and Raine’s colleagues and friends and also all of Alex’s friends and teammates. I loved these dynamics, the friendly teasing, the joking around, the absolutely brilliant fast-paced and witty conversations… I lived for these! I basically had a broad smile on my face the entire time reading this book. Since this was my first book by #DonnaSchwartze I didn’t know how wonderful her writing was before this and now I want MORE. More of this wonderful humour, of the sass of the teasing.

All of these conversations and getting to know the other characters also made me super curious about Sophie and Seb and I definitely want to read their story, too. But let’s get to the stars of this story: Raine and Alex. Raine is… I don’t even really know how to describe her in one sentence, but she definitely is a handful. She is super confident and it is clearly very competent when it comes to her job. She seems like a leader, is super smart and at the same time she turns adorably awkward when a guy is interested in her and that makes her just SO endearing. Alex is pretty much the same, being confident, flirty and even a little cocky, but he has no issues admitting that he gets nervous, too, and he’s even hiding a little nerd, who is also super smart and likes having his nose in a book. #dreamguy #bookboyfriend
As a special mention I definitely also have to talk about Butch real quick. In the beginning (especially that scene on the plane) I almost wished he was the love interest. lol He and Raine just have this perfect relationship, with lots of good-hearted banter and I just love that man! I really hope he’ll get his own book. <3

All in all, this was a wonderful romance, a perfect rom com, with a little spice thrown in and also a little mystery to uncover! I definitely recommend that one! I’m even thinking about purchasing the paperback version. :))

Donna hit this out of the park!! Thoroghly entertaining, laugh out loud moments, strong characters, sassy, independant, stubborn and totally loveable!
This read was another 5 star for me, it kept me turning pages & laughing at certain scenes.
I love that we got cameo appearances from characters in Donna's previous books too!!
Can't wait for her next release.

Just another cute little read. I really liked Raine and Alex’s relationship. I kinda hate how the book leaves it but apparently there’s a sequel coming out so maybe we’ll get some closure. Overall - funny characters (besides that one bitch), cute plot, and a little mystery to shake things up.

Raine and Alex meet at mutual friends wedding weekend. After getting past their awkward nervousness, they find massive attraction. After a combustive weekend, they go their separate ways, promising to keep in touch across country from one another. I thoroughly enjoyed their story and look forward to more of their long-distance relationship.

I enjoyed this book. I thought the storyline was great, and interesting.
I just wasn’t able to connect with the characters, so I just felt like it fell short for me because of that.

I'm on a roll. After reading Truth or Tequila, I knew I had to read the sequel right away. Did not disappoint! I think my instinct is to lean toward books that are easy to read just so I can get away from reality for a bit and dive into my creative space. I love this feeling! Probably about time I do more but I have a fresh year ahead and we'll see...

This is a laugh out loud, fun, and smexy second book in The Grand Slam series. I’ve been waiting for Raine’s story and it is fantastic. Love all the cameo appearances from the characters in the Trident Trilogy and Alex…oh Alex!! Butch steals the show and I really hope he gets his own book. The banter between him and Raine will have you laughing out loud.

The instant attraction between Raine and Alex is 🔥🔥 even tho they are both against a relationship. They also have great banter and conversations.

There is a bit of suspense added to the story which adds another element to the story! Donna’s stories keep getting better and better!

Sharmila Devar and Robert Hatchett deliver a fantastic performance. They bring perfect voice, personality and emotion to the characters. I love how narrators being the authors words to life and give readers/listeners a whole new experience.

It liked this book a lot less than the first one. The first one was super good, cute, etc.
I did not love Raine and Alex, everything they had in common was mentioned like once and then not continued. it focused way to much on her being a agent and trying to figure out petty drama. Not my favorite, would not recommend. Read the first one tho.

Raine Out is the second book in the  (Grand slam) series. I started this book straight after finishing Truth Or Tequila, I couldn't wait to dive into Alex and Raine's story.

𝙄𝙩'𝙨 𝙣𝙞𝙘𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚 𝙖𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙 𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙙 𝙤𝙛 𝙨𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙮. 𝙄𝙩 𝙗𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨 𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙨𝙞𝙙𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙢𝙚."

I loved this book, and was so excited to see it was a two Characters pov, so we got Raine’s  and Alex’s side of the story. If you have read my other reviews you know that I love different characters povs. Donna included the old characters too which was amazing. So we had the bubbly Sophie and the wonderful blue eyed and professional baseball catcher Seb. With the upcoming wedding of Sophie and Sebs. Raine is Sophie's old friend she hasn't seen since they were kids and Sophie has invited her to her wedding. Raine's only problem is she knows Sophie is going to still try setting her up with someone, and to find her perfect man. Alex is a Sebs team mate which we do meet in truth and Tequila, the guy who only spends one nighters with girls and sometimes it is not even a night. But Sophie, yep you guessed it, never stops trying to set Alex up. She is so determined to find someone for him and her friend.

"𝙏𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙬𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣 𝙖𝙬𝙖𝙮 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙢𝙚, 𝙥𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙚. 𝙎𝙝𝙚'𝙨 𝙢𝙚𝙙𝙙𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙣 𝙢𝙮 𝙡𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙡𝙞𝙛𝙚 𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣."

Raine is very into her career, then spending time with someone especially as hot as Alex, I loved the way these two’s relationship builds up through the book. It was fun, thrilling and so adorable. I loved the fact this wasn't just a contemporary, it also had part mystery and working out what the heck was going on. It kept you guessing all the way through. I really actually can't believe I didn't work it out, I mean I had some suspicions suspects, but flippin heck one bit was like are you actually kidding me right now. Gotta say I really hated some of the characters in this book like they really got off my nerves, you will know who I mean when you read it. This was a absolute thrilling read and I really enjoyed it, we got to know new characters Butch being one of them. We will find out his story in the third book No One Wants That which I can not wait to read.

This is my first book by Donna and I really enjoyed reading it. I thought it funny that Raine & Alex were being set up by the bride and groom but they needn’t have stepped in. These two were attracted to each other instantly and it was great reading them together. I also liked the bit of mystery and intrigue in the story surrounding the nuptials. Honestly I should of totally guessed who was behind it all but I was certainly blindsided. My only gripe and it’s me just being super picky - I love a HEA but this story ended on a HFN.
So just putting it out there, should Donna decide to write more about this couple I will definitely want to read it. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.

Okay...listen. I felt like I was in a toxic relationship with this book where it would make me feel cringe/uncomfortable with stereotypes or basic writing, but then there'd be a romance or funny scene and it'd pull me back in 😅 soooo I'm really not sure how to rate this, but I'm giving it four stars because ultimately it did what I needed, gave me something easy to read and I enjoyed the ending. However, I read Truth and Tequila first and I definitely enjoyed it more and unfortunately I didn't like the characters from Truth or Tequila as much in this book, they were..A LOT. Mostly Seb, but uh, yeah. 😅 I'm a sucker for instalove/love at first sight, I love not having to wait every time I read a romance so it was a nice change of pace.

Destination wedding drama, this book is packed to capacity with it. I loved reading about Seb and Sophie again, and even Nash (my favorite) from The Runaway Bride of Blitzen Bay got a mention.
But we are here for Alex and Raine who had instant chemistry and so much fun in between all the tense moments. They are brought together by mutual friends who try to set them up, but soon realise on their own that there is a special connection between them. They spend the weekend getting to know each other better while trying to keep various other characters with nefarious intent from ruining everyone's fun. An enjoyable holiday read.

This was a fun, quick read. That I think I would have enjoyed even more if I had read the book that came before it. Truth or Tequila it's called. There are characters from quite a few of Donna's previous works and even though I enjoyed Alex and Raine's story that extra bit of "know", I think would have made it that much more fun.
Alex and Raine had great chemistry and a fun witty banter. They kept things honest and real through their short weekend romance that has me hoping their long distance hopes will draw them closer together sooner rather than later. Hopefully will get an update to in an upcoming book.
I have voluntarily left this review.

Raine Out by Donna Schwartze

I was excited for the second book in the series which follows after Truth or Tequila. This is the second book in this series which is Raine and Alex’s story. It is a fun, quick read that you will truly enjoy. It’s a stand alone but I really think you should really read the first in order to have completely and truly enjoyed this book even more. Alex and Raine had great chemistry and a fun witty banter throughout the book. It is a laugh out loud, fun, read that everyone needs to read. I really am eager to read the following book to see what happens next.

Raine Out is the second book in the Grand Slam series by Donna Schwartz. I just love her writing! This book is about Raine who is super busy and can't talk about her job and Alex who is a professional baseball player who is afraid of commitment. When the two meet up at their friend's wedding they instantly fall for each other. I love all the secondary characters in this series too - other baseball players, their agent and a lot of women who can sometimes create a lot of drama when it comes to their men. Characters return from Truth or Tequila (the first book in this series) but it can be read as a standalone. I can't wait for the third book to come out in August of 2022!

This is a laugh out loud sports romance meets Navy seals lark

I've never actually laughed out loud at many books, but this one had me laughing at least once a chapter. The interplay between the baseball players and the Navy seal, as well as our favorite CIA analyst is a romp in paradise. Spoiler warning, the one thing I don't like about this book (and others like it) is that I do not want to see my sports hero quitting the sport unless he absolutely has to because he's aging out or injured.. If I read sports romance I want sports to be the primary theme, and having the hero leave the sport ruins the effect.

This insta-love story is the perfect beachy read. Raine is a feisty, CIA agent that is heading to her childhood best friends wedding hoping she won't try to set her up with someone. Alex is also heading to the same wedding (reluctantly) as his teammates fiancé is also always trying to set him up.
Let's just say things don't go as 'planned' when they both catch feelings. This is a fun, quick read and I enjoyed catching up on Seb and Sophie from the first book! I also didn't know that Raine and Butch (her Navy SEAL friend) are featured in a trilogy which I'll now be binging. ;)

This is the second book in this series and is Raine and Alex’s story. These two meets at their mutual friend’s wedding, and there is an instant connection between them, as well as undeniable chemistry. This is a well written story which is fun, and with intrigue, suspense, drama, romance, humor, witty banter, tension, and is a steamy and entertaining all-consuming page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

Wow never thought a second book could be better than the first. But this certainly was. I love Butch I want him as my friend hes so funny but so loyal and protective. The only down fall is I love to read a series start to end but started leave it on the field to find I really needed to read Blitzen series inbetween, but this is only my opinion cos I like to know all the characters and they seem to cross between both. I absolutely love Donna's writing and will certainly read more.

Raine and Alex

Another cute, funny and sexy story.

I listened to the audio. The narrators did an excellent job telling this story and giving these characters a voice.

The gang gets together for Seb and Sophie's wedding at a destination wedding. Raine is Sophie's childhood friend and Alex is Seb's teammate. This was cute, funny and sexy. This is turning to be an enjoyable story. Love the bantering and story.

This one was even better than it’s prequel! I loved Alex and Raine’s dynamic. She’s such a strong character who is more than willing to fight her friends’ battles, and he’s a man who isn’t afraid to work for what he wants - especially when it comes to Raine. Their banter is witty and I love that their relationship shows honesty from the get go.

This one gets 4⭐️’s from me!
