Miss Nellie in the Prisoners of Love series is the former brothel owner who at the request of her long-time friend, Marshal Jones, chaperoned four young ladies on a wagon train trip from Dodge City to Santa Fe to be mail order brides. She's done her job, the girls are all happily married. Is it her turn now? Would anyone want a soiled dove? Then the newly retired Marshal of Dodge City arrives in Santa Fe.
Upon his arrival, Miss Nellie seems happy to see him, but can he convince her that he doesn't care what she was before; what matters to him is what he wants her to be now.
My historical romances are full of heat, humor, and quirky characters. I’ve always loved history, which was my college major. Things of the past fascinate me. Not those boring history classes in high school, but the history of people. How they lived their lives, what they ate, what they wore, the challenges they faced, what they worried about.
I have recently delved into Historical Cozy Mysteries. My very first one, For the Love of the Baron, a Historical Romantic Suspense novella, spurred me to try a full length, non-romance focused cozy mystery. A Study in Murder released last year from Crooked Lane Publishing, and the reviews have been excellent. The second book, The Sign of Death, released this year and the next book, The Mystery of Albert E. Finch will release in January of 2022.
I've also been busy keeping up with my Regency/Victorian romances. Check out my latest series, The Rose Room Rogues. Four brothers who own a gambling club and find themselves caught in the net of love.
Watch for my new Highlander series, The Sutherlands of Dornoch. The first book in that series, To Deceive a Highlander, will release March 30th.
Take a look around my website and check out some of the books I write, and their lovely covers. www.calliehutton.com
I was given an Advanced Readers Copy by the this wonderfully talented author! I have to admit I have only read a few western romance books. I am so happy to have read this book. It has a beautiful and strong heroine and a very persuasive and loving hero. Nellie and Marshal Dane Jones knew each other from Dodge City. He sent her to escort four young ladies to Santa Fe to help them find husbands. While there Miss. Nellie decides to stay there and start over. Meanwhile Dane who has been in love with Nellie for awhile goes to Santa Fe and finds her! This is such a well written storyline with a believable plot! There is a a bit of suspense and a then a beautiful romance between Dane and Nellie. I was so very happy for her, she deserved to be happy and loved 🥰. I am so happy to have read this book, it was a fast paced, well written story with two people who loved each and found their happily ever after! I would definitely recommend this book to everyone who loves a happy feel good romance.
I am not one to read western romance but do occasionally. I did however, very much enjoy this one. Callie gives you her usual witty banter and firey women to fish out the come-uppance deserving to the men they are dealing with. This story she has included some great revealing secrets the women are hiding and how the men help the telling and fixin! Add in a dash of intriguing mystery, suspense, and a dash of justice and you get a well-designed romance that will have you hollarin "HE HA" !
Marshal Dane Jones and Miss Kellie Ward remind me of Marshal Dillon and Miss Kitty from Gunsmoke TV show. Until the hit Santa Fe. There we begin the fun and thrilling will West ride!
So grab you book, sit on your porch rocker and get ready for laughs, dancin', and romancin" !

I have always been fond of Callie Hutton’s books and this one is included. It is a quick read with truly wonderful characters, adventures and justice. Nellie, a nearly 40-year-old woman owned a brothel however it was in fire and Jones, a Marshal requested her to chaperon four young women to be mail order bride. She agreed and she also decided to have a very clean and clear life in Santa Fe as a respectable woman. For me, Nellie is an extremely strong and kind-hearted heroine I have ever encountered despite her past therefore I did understand why Jones is so smitten with her and is determined to marry her. I love his determination and endeavor to win Nellie. For me Prisoners of Love: Nellie has engaging characters and quite satisfying ending, I did enjoy reading it.
This was a very good book with great characters. The H and h have known each other for years but it was never the right time to be a couple. Now that they both have started over with new lives it’s time but will they be able to have their ultimate dream? There’s laughter and romance and just enough suspense to make this a well rounded story.
Yaaaaassss! Book #5 of 5 from Callie Hutton's Prisoners of Love series was finally released a few weeks ago! I was waiting for this book for one or two years, and was so happy to conclude this series with Nellie's story.
A Christmas to Remember was a light hearted, quick read, with a bit of adventure to boot. I also liked, and appreciated the fact that Nellie is a 39 year-old woman... and well, any woman above the age of 25 is not all that usual with regards to heroines from historical romances.
It would be great if more historical romances would feature older / mature women (and men), and normalize the fact that romance can and does exist for us too!
Another good romance in this series and the one you’d think least likely to happen. Nellie did a great job moving forward and remaking her reputation, but there was more to her story than anyone knew. There’s the right amount of intrigue, a slow build with the romance and the perfect holiday HEA!
This is the final book in Callie Hutton’s fabulous Prisoner of Love Series. These stories follow four brave women on a journey to start new lives far away from all their sorrow and heartache. Nellie, their chaperone from the wagon train journey is a former brothel owner who saw her business burn to the ground, she is asked to aid the younger women by the Sheriff. Seeing this as her chance start fresh somewhere new she agrees. After seeing the young women married and settled she buys the bed & breakfast she stays in and to make ends meet she starts a mail order bride service, although content something is missing from her life. Enter Dane, the sheriff who helped the ladies now retired, he comes to town to see Nellie. Having loved her for years he is determined to marry her. Things do not go as planned however, with some drama and legal matters to get in the way of our couple’s happiness. Eventually Dane proves to Nellie that love is possible and when all barriers are removed they find their happy ever after. This is a great end to the series, previous characters appear letting us see how they have faired, I am so glad to finally get to read Nellie’s story. Callie delivers as always, great characters and good stories. I highly recommend this series. Although I received an advanced reader copy this is my true and honest review.
Once the ladies she chaperoned to Santa Fe, at the request of Marshal Dane Jones, are all happily married and settled, Nellie Ward begins to rebuild her life. Things are going well when one day, Marshal Jones comes to town. He is retired and wants to court and marry Nellie, whom he has loved for years. The mutual attraction is here, but Nellie is resistant to Dane’s charms. She has a secret that might prevent them from ever being able to marry. However, one cannot underestimate a determined Marshal in love.
This is a wonderful romance. Nellie and Dane have been part of the story since the beginning of the series. We met them as the Marshal and a brothel owner. Now Nellie has a boarding house and matchmaking service. She is smart, kind, and caring. Dane, too, plans to become a businessman. He is friendly, optimistic, and street (or trail) smart. There is a bit of excitement and adventure, as well as romance, humor, and a bit of mystery. What better time to bring a happy ending to the series than Christmas, and what better gift that a big HEA for Nellie and Dane! Great Read!
Prisoners Of Love: Nellie - A Christmas To Remember is a fantastic historical western romance by Callie Hutton. I loved everything about this book except the title (it's a tad lengthy), I'm not even sure if that is the title or if just the second half is the title. Ms. Hutton has supplied readers with a well-written book. I love the characters in this story. They make it a joy to read. Dane is the marshal of Dodge City with a jail cell full of women he didn't know what to do with. Nellie is the madam of the town's bordello and when it burns down, Dane convinces Nellie to take the girls to Santa Fe as their chaperone for them all to have fresh starts. Dane and Nellie's story is loaded with drama, humor, spice, action and suspense. I loved this story and look forward to my next book by Callie Hutton. This is book 5 of the Prisoners of Love Series but can be read as a standalone. Nellie - A Christmas To Remember is a complete book, not a cliffhanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from Bookfunnel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I love historical romances especially mail order brides. I have read this entire series and LOVED every one. So happy Nellie and Dane got their HEA. If you're a lover of historical romances don't miss this series.
WOW what a Fantastic Story! Callie Hutton's characters chemistry is heart warming , sweet and palpable. Nellie and Dane are believable and so realistic with such depth and individuality it's easy to relate to. I could not wait for the story to unfold. Prisoners of Love: Nellie is a awesome mail order bride story filled with drama, adventure, love, longing, and plot twist and turns. This book will keep you turning the pages! I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, from cover to cover. I always enjoy how well the author brings in the other characters from the earlier series, it's like revisiting old friends that you haven't seen for a while. It was nice to catch up with them.
Miss Nellie feels that as a former brothel owner and prostitute she is not respectable and does not deserve a respectable man. Marshal Dane Jones is determined to convince her otherwise!
In Prisoners of Love: Nellie - A Christmas to Remember, Callie Hutton gives us a charming novella-length story of redemption and starting over with love and family against a backdrop of Thanksgiving and Christmas.
It is the fifth book in the series, and we catch up with the mail-order brides that Nellie chaperoned from Dodge City to Santa Fe while watching Nellie and Dane fight for their HEA. It is a definite feel-good story with a sweet epilogue.
Miss Nellie fulfilled her friends request. Then Dane comes along with a long time hearts desire. In this time period follow these two as they go back and forth with each other which is lovely reading for us. She too has a hearts desire we want filled. The pace of this lovely will have you quickly turning the pages to see who receives the desires of their hearts.
This is wonderful story by Callie Hutton. I loved the characters of Dane and Nellie and how by helping others, they helped themselves. Everything turns into happily ever after and reads like a western Hallmark movie ;-) Definitely recommended!
Dane and Nellie's story is so keeping with this season of Thanksgiving and Christmas! Their story shows that love conquers all and can forgive a multitude of wrongs. I loved the story, it was short and sweet mixed with a little adventure. A fitting end to the series. Dane has been waiting years to confess his love to Nellie and when he hatches the idea to send her and the fellow female prisoners off to Santa Fe, his dream of making Nellie his wife is within reach. His persistence and patience to convince Nellie to marry him and the way their love comes to the fore is so tenderly written and makes the heart want more. It was a heartfelt and enjoyable tale. A tad short and the Mr Brooks character felt underdeveloped but other than that it was a fantastic read that really touches the heart strings.
A former brothel owner who turns her life around to make a respectable living and the retired sheriff who loves her and tries to convince her to marry him. But something is holding her back. Something from her past that is not easy to erase away. But the sheriff is determined to help so they can be together.
Didn't see some of the twist and turns in this final book of the series. Very satisfying conclusion though. Fellow and Dane deserved it. As a series I was very pleased. My only problem was the author mixing donkeys with mules on the wagon trail. They are actually two different species. A donkey breed with a horse is a mule. They are always male and don't reproduce.
I received a free copy of Prisoners Of Love: Nellie- A Christmas To Remember in a Goodreads giveaway and I am voluntarily leaving a review. I thought it was a very heartwarming story about a brave woman who turned her life around. It had a very warm Christmas feel to it
A very nice book to read. This book is written by Callie Hutton. Book 5 of this series is just as good as the past 4 books. An ex prostitute and ex sheriff find love in this book. A very enjoyable book to read. Just loved this series of books.
