After losing his wife and son in a car crash, Bryce “Cole” Coleman never planned on loving or having a family again. Every time a woman tries to get close to him, he pushes her away. After losing a friend in battle, he’s riddled with even more survivor’s guilt. He leaves the military and is still trying to find his way when Jake Cogburn offers him a job with the Brotherhood Protectors in Colorado. With no other choice, Cole agrees.
She cares too much about others and refuses to give less than her all…
Though Staci Miller grew up with a silver spoon in her mouth, she chose the difficult path of becoming a doctor. Engaged straight out of medical school, she’s ready to start her life helping people. Her fiancé isn’t as happy about her work and even more displeased when she volunteers to help poor people in the backwoods of Colorado. When she is kidnapped and held for ransom, her fiancé refuses to pay the ransom. Staci’s father hires Brotherhood Protectors to rescue his daughter.
As his first assignment, Cole works with his new team to accomplish the mission, he gets the female out, only to be separated from the rest of the team, high in the Rockies. They fight their way back to safety while fighting a growing attraction for each other that could break down the walls around Cole’s heart.

Well this one rips you heart out of you from almost the first page and I believe is my favourite in the series so far We meet our hero Bryce “Cole” Coleman as he sits in a helicopter with his closest friend Dustin "Dusty" Benton and Dusty tells him he is about to be a father again then remembers that Cole had lost his son and pregnant wife in a horrific traffic accident but Coles life is about to get much worse when he loses Dusty on the mission Soon the bottom of the bottle is all that Cole is interested in but Jake Cogburn of Brotherhood Protectors Montana knows he is perfect for his team and soon shows up to drag him off to Montana Cole's first job is to find a missing woman Dr. Staci Miller a talented doctor who is determined to give to areas under serviced with medical care and she is currently working in Glory Valley a place that is like stepping back in time. What secrets are contained in the valley that has caused her to not be able to make her designated call to her father and will Cole be able to get to her in time and when he discovers hat is happening will he be able to save her and other innocents You will have to read to see as a man who feels he has nothing to live for finds a new reason to live.
Right out of the gate this one grabs your heart strings, swings from them, twists them, and says can you feel me? Yup, I could. I felt the anguish, the loss. Oh Cole. The bottle seems to be only answer. Staci born to wealth seeing the other side and striking out to help. Two sides that meet in captivity. Captivity that is heart wrenching in itself. Did it make you wonder how many similar places like that exist in the world today? Not identical, but similar. I did and I hurt for everyone of them. Rebecca, wow, I hope there is a book about you down the road because you are going to be one awesome individual. This was a total game changer for me. Yes it had the basic premise of this series, but took on a whole new vibe and I really liked it! There is a creepiness to this town. You are invested in the two main characters you care and there is some romance and steam to round it all out. Win! Thank you for the arc, I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions.
Having Jake Cogburn and Max Thornton pick him up by the bootstraps may have saved him from his self destructive slide into oblivion and given him a purpose. Meeting and rescuing Dr Staci Miller gives him hope. Staci is no shrinking violet although she grew up never wanting for much. Giving back as a doctor is her mission. But don't count her out. She's fierce, savvy and a fighter for what's good and right. She becomes Cole's light in his dark and he allows himself to love again.
Rocky Mountain Madness Brotherhood Protectors Colorado Book#6 Elle James
Another great addition to the Brotherhood Protectors Colorado. This time new hire Cole goes to find missing Doctor Staci Miller. She has gone to work in a poverty area in the mountains of Colorado and disappears. Cole discovers the idyllic valley community isn’t what it seems to be at all. Not only does the doctor need to be saved, but others as well, including Cole. A definite late night read that has you drawn in as you turn the pages from beginning to end.
Im so confused. Bryce “Cole” Coleman was introduced in the last book when his friend “Enzo” was introduced to us as the hero of that book. In the last book Cole is a member of Enzo’s team, and after his family died he moved in with fellow team member “JC”. In Enzo’s book JC dies on the mission and then afterwards his team, including Cole help him rescue the heroine so he meets the brotherhood protector team that way. In this book after his family dies he moves into an apartment alone and is on a completely different team where a member of that team dies but it’s not the same team he’s on in the last book and there’s no mention of JC who was supposedly his best friend. Then he meets the brotherhood protectors in a whole different way. And they “Introduce” him to Enzo (his teammate in the last book) Im just very confused. These books are good but kinda confusing if you read them in order.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it. I also purchased a copy. Five stars is not enough for this. I would give more if I could!!!!
OMGoodness! I needed tissues just from reading the Prologue!!! This author is brilliant with words. Her stories always take me on an emotional rollercoaster ride and this is no different.
While it is a part of a series, and the prior characters are mentioned and make some appearances, you really don't have to read them to understand and enjoy this one. I would highly recommend it though as they are great stories themselves.
Dr. Staci Miller was raised in comfort and style. She studied to become a doctor as her mother died of cancer. She wanted to give back to the underprivileged, She goes to a small town in Colorado, Glory Valley. In the two weeks that she was there, she encountered some strange things among the poor townspeople. She calls her father and expresses some concerns regarding some of the town’s issues. Unfortunately she is overheard and abducted. When she misses her check-in with her father, he calls an old friend that put him in touch with the Brotherhood Protectors of Colorado.
Bryce “Cole” Coleman is plagued with survivor’s guilt. His wife and small child were in a car accident and died while he was on tour. In the three years after their death, he continues to volunteers for almost every tour he can. Only after his friend’s death, during a mission, does Cole not re-enlist.
Cole is rescued from the beginnings of a drinking problem when he is approached to come to work for the Brotherhood Protectors. At first, Cole turns them down. When he remembers his deceased friend was going to work for them, does Cole accept to honor his friend. His first mission, to find the missing doctor.
How these two meet, is a story that kept me glued to my hot little e-reader. The story was riveting. Highly emotional at times. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. The author kept throwing hurdle after hurdle at the two in their bid for freedom.
This story is so well written that I felt like I was right there with the characters. My poor heart was racing at times. The suspense was high at times. The only disappointment, the story ended!!! I love the sequels and hope there is more so I can keep in touch with these wonderful characters.
This was written in a dual POV format. Getting that glimpse into the character’s thought really helped me to connect with them. There was a sexy scene here but not too overly descriptive.
After losing his wife and son in an accident while deployed, Cole devotes his life to serving in the military. He vows never to love again, but when his teammate dies in his arms, Cole decides not to reenlist. He hits rock bottom and is found stumbling out of a bar by Jake and Thorn. Jake is in charge of The Brotherhood Protectors Colorado branch and is there to offer Cole a new start. Cole believes the offer is too good to be true, but takes the job to honor the memory of his fallen teammate as it was his dream to eventually work for The Brotherhood Protectors. His first assignment is to find and “remind” a doctor, who forgot to check in with her father, to call. If only it were that easy!
Staci Miller grew up privileged. She never wanted for anything. When she lost her mother to cancer, she decided to pursue a career as a doctor. She also wanted to give back, help those less fortunate than herself. So she heads to a small, backwards town in Colorado. Staci begins to find trends, abnormalities in the townsfolk. When she reports her suspicions to her father, he immediately wants her to come home. But Staci insists on staying to help the people. Little did she know what she was about to uncover…
While I truly loved the characters and the storyline, I wanted more! I loved Staci’s ambition and drive to help those less fortunate. I loved that SHE was the one rescuing Cole so that he could turn around and rescue her right back! I felt as though Cole “recovered” from his guilt really quickly. I needed more of Cole working through his guilt, forgiveness, then love. This is a quick, insta-love, suspenseful read with a HEA. Overall, another enjoyable Brotherhood Protectors novel. I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.
Not sure who is tougher in this series, the retired military men or the women they protect.
Book six in the Colorado chapter of the Brotherhood Protectors introduces Cole and Dr. Staci Miller. Cole has just left active duty, choosing not to re-up after the loss of his good buddy Dusty. Not new to loss, his wife and son were killed in a freeway pile up in an ice storm. Now it’s survivors guilt. Cole has no one and Dusty had a wife, a daughter and another on the way. Dusty was all set to join the Colorado Brotherhood after his tour was completed. Now the Brotherhood, Jake and Thorn have come looking for Cole. Cole accepts the job in honor of Dusty.
Jake has received a call from Dr. Staci Miller’s father. He was supposed to hear from his daughter and hasn’t. She was raised with everything she ever needed. She desires to give back. She chose a small community in the upper mountains who are basically living off the grid. Staci starts to notice some things. Mostly not many children, a lot of miscarriages and babies born with defects. She thinks w no new persons living among them these abnormalities are from inbreeding. A man fell today and she was called to tend to a broken leg. This was way more than she could handle and suggested a helicopter to get him out. All her suggestions were denied. She called her dad with concerns and promised to call every day. She missed her call. Cole just got his first assignment. He backpacks in acting surprised to find a small community. It didn’t take long for Cole to be captured and forced into working the mine. Staci too was held prisoner.
One thing about this series. These are strong tough military men that are Seals, Green Berets, Special Ops, but the women they find have grit and determination.
How is this one getting 5 stars? For starters has the author has mixed up her characters or are there two Coles that both had their wife and child die while they were away on a mission? Is there not meant to be any continuity between what is being said about the upcoming characters being recruited. Are the 5 green berets that Hand mentioned being recruited not Enzo and his team of 4 other men. It is so confusing.
In this book Cole doesn’t know Enzo and gets introduced to him, yet in the last book they were all on the same team completing their final mission together. In this book Dusty dies in the last book it was their teammate and Cole’s housemate CJ that died.
For that reason I couldn’t give the book more stars, the drama with the doctor was ok but geez, I think she did all the saving and our “hero” followed along her coat tails. Now I’m all for a strong female lead but there was nothing for our “hero” do actually do on this mission. And OMG I wanted to cringe at the love scene and had to skip through it because it made me want to gag. The doc had been locked up how long? And our hero locked up how long? And they ran for their lives but get to the shack and nope nope nope can’t think about how grubby that was. Blah
The whole ending was rushed and cringe worthy.
This series is definitely getting worse as it goes along. Maybe the author could create a timeline and map out her novels. It’s like they are all stand alone as in STAND ALONE and not part of continuing series.
Second chance romance, military action, medical mystery , and all around fun packed into one story. Elle James sucks us back into the Brotherhood Protectors world with Book #6, Rocky Mountain Madness. That doesn't mean she doesn't jerk at our heartstrings a little before the fun begins. The book opens with a sad mission scene in which our hero, Bryce aka "Cole", loses his best friend and military brother. Talk about being kicked when you are already down- we found out earlier in the story that Cole's himself had lost his wife and child in an accident. But fear not, a few whiskeys later, and a visit from one of our favorite characters from the Colorado Brotherhood Protectors division (Jake ), start putting Cole back on the right path. His first job has him searching for a possibly missing doctor -Dr. Staci Miller - in Glory Valley, Colorado. When she missed a check in call with her dad, he contacted the brotherhood to go investigate. She's the sole doctor in a small, poor mountain mining community - until she discovers their tragic secret and is kidnapped. It's up to Cole to find and rescue her (and maybe save the whole community at the same time). The story isn't really a military story per se, but more a romantic suspense and 2nd chance story. I enjoyed it very much- I love the brotherhood world! I received an ARC to review this story.
What a wonderful book! I enjoyed the book entirely from beginning to the end. This book has mystery, adventure, action, military action, warmth, suspense as well as the romance that we recognize as Elle James trademark. I found myself so engrossed in the main characters, Bryce "Cole" Coleman and Dr. Staci Miller, and the story, I kept reading the book to end of it without stopping.
Cole has experienced major losses of his wife, son and his Delta Force best friend. He only joined Brotherhood Protectors because he feels he owes it to his best friend. Staci was born into a wealthy and privilege family. Through her growing up years she determined she wanted to help the under-privilege. After becoming a doctor, Staci settled in a remote valley in Colorado to help an under-privilege community. She disappears, so Cole is sent in to find her and give Staci a message from her dad. It turns out she is not to be found; Does Cole ends up in trouble? So, when do Staci and Cole meet? What happens next? I will say, it's such a good book I felt really good when I finished.
I received a free copy of this book for an honest review. I would recommend this book to anybody who enjoys military romance and romance suspense books. So, grab your favorite beverage, sit down and enjoy yourself with this wonderful book.
Another great instalment in this series with Cole and Staci being the stars. Cole has lost a lot in his life, his wife, son and unborn child in a tragic accident and recently a brother in arms, that pushes him over the edge. He gets a hand from the Colorado brothers who recruit him while he’s drowning in his sorrows. His first mission, find a Dr who hasn’t checked in with her father. Staci is a giver, and wants to help those less fortunate so she ends up in a small town up in the mountains offering her services as a Dr. She notices strange things among the children and residents and when she starts snooping too closely, finds herself locked up and hidden away. Her only hope is to escape and when Cole lands beside her, the two work together to find an escape before it’s too late…not only for them but others in the same situation. A great read with some steam, suspense, some action and surprises. I enjoyed this read and the insta everything between these two, the connection, lust/love and how easily they fit. The story flowed nicely, I enjoyed all the surprises, the characters and especially their ending. *I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
Bryce has had to cope with tragedy upon tragedy. First, he lost his family in a car accident and then just as he had decided to leave the Armed Services his buddy, Dusty, is killed on a mission. Bryce burns out and finds solace at the bottom of a beer bottle. But when BP: Colorado comes calling he decides to take up a position with the Brotherhood Protectors to honour his friend.
Cole's first job sounds like a walk in the park. Check on a Doctor who is treating folks up in a remote valley. But Dr Staci Miller has stumbled into more than she can handle. These locals aren't just isolated - they're kidnapping people!
Once Cole and Staci meet it's a headlong jump into adventure. Can they escape the townsfolk and get help or will they be rounded up?
A great addition to the series. Staci could have just been another stuck-up Doctor thinking she knows best but she does do everything from a good place, rather than for glory. Cole may be reluctant to care about anyone again but Staci gets past those walls and the passion flares between them hot and fiery. Rebecca is a great secondary character too - lots of pluck in that young lady!
4.5 stars for a fast paced romantic suspense that held my attention from the first to the last page.
I appreciated that even after Cole had endured all measures of tragedy and was overwhelmed with guilt, that he found purpose in working with Brotherhood Protectors. I was so relieved that this didn't turn out to be one of those books where the friend feels obligated to take on the other friends family and responsibilities after being lost during deployment.
It took me a moment to realize that Cole and Staci's relationship was kind of like instalove but it really didn't feel that way. The situation they found themselves in was creepy, not to mention cult like.
This book had romance, action, danger, suspense, and a touch of steam. I went with 4.5 stars because I am greedy. I would have loved to have an epilogue with information a little further down the road, maybe 3-6 months or something like that. Anyway, Cole and Staci's get their well deserved HEA.
I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Individually, this book is really good. Taking into account the description on here and there is some parts of the description that don’t match up. Add in the book before and you may be very confused as there was a Coke in that story too. But this Coke didn’t just work with the brotherhood protectors, but that isn’t known to begin with. They are dealing with the same terrorist group (though different mission) and the special team they are is the same branch- at the beginning. Later it’s said this Coke is in Delta Force. Both men lost a wife and child but the other lived with a teammate after their loss, whereas this one is in a one bedroom apartment. So yeah, even though none of the other teammates had the same names, I thought in the beginning it was the same Coke and it didn’t make since the differences between the two books. It took away from my enjoyment initially, but I also read both books in the same day so the other story was fresh on my mind.
We are back in Colorado with newly hired Bryce/Cole Coleman. A man that suffered heartbreaking losses in the past few years . Losses that made him first risk his life to extremes while in the military, and later when a fellow teammate dies, he leaves everything behind. While drowning himself in liquor, he’s offered a new chance in life and a new job of protecting others. Cole’s first mission is finding doctor Staci Miller, the daughter of a very wealthy man and a woman determined to help those in need in the middle of the Colorado mountains. What neither expected was the danger they would encounter and the attraction between them. This action packed suspense romance was entertaining and the main characters, likable. It also made this reader think of the lives of those living in poverty in the middle of the mountains and the communities they create. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
4.5 Stars This is book 6 in the Brotherhood Protectors: Colorado series and it features Bryce “Cole” Coleman and Staci Miller. He’s living life in a bottle after leaving the Army and the tragedies he’s experienced. That is until he gets a visit from Jake and Max of the Brotherhood Protectors. His first assignment is to find Dr. Staci Miller, as she failed to check in with her daily phone call. She’s donating her services in a small mountain mining community but there’s some mighty strange things going on in this town.
After some back story for Cole, there is no other military action. Regardless, the story line is fantastic! The character growth for Cole was incredible and inspiring. I love this romance that started in the pitch black. You know your reading a well written story when you can actually see it happening as you’re reading it. I can’t wait for more from this amazing author.
The story line was so well written, edge of your seat, page turner and dangerous. Ms James definitely delivered a great book. Cole lost his wife and child and to top it off his buddy in the war. His life just spiraled until Jake offered him a job with Brotherhood Protectors in Colorado. Stacy was born to a wealthy family but chose to be a Doctor to help the people in a remote area of Colorado. Her father solicited the assistance from Brotherhood Protectors to locate his daughter as he hadn't heard from her. Cole was given the assignment. He deliberately got himself captured and luckily he found Stacy. They escaped and the fight to survive was on. Along the way, they developed an attraction for each other but Cole has always stayed clear off women. Will Cole get them both out of danger? Will he give love a second chance? I highly recommend you to read it to find out. I can't wait for the next book. I was given a free copy of this book and chose to voluntarily leave a review.
Rocky Mountain Madness is fabulous romantic suspense by Elle James. Ms. James has provided readers with a well-written book. I did wonder what Ms. James had to eat before bed to put the creepy nightmares in her head because she's managed to land our hero and heroine right smack at the intersection of icky and freaky. Cole left Army after his best friend died in his arms. He was invited to join the Brotherhood Protectors. Staci is a doctor working in areas that have no medical resources. Staci and Cole's story is packed with drama, humor, sexy bits, action and suspense. This book will keep you glued to your chair from start to finish. Rocky Mountain Madness is book 6 of the Brotherhood Protectors Colorado Series but it can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliffhanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from Bookfunnel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
What a fantastic read. Cole is such a beautiful character. His pain seems so real and tangible. His grief and guilt biting at his heels. Staci has a true heart of gold wanting to help people who really need it. Watching these two characters fall in love from their first words, whilst trying to escape the evil that commands everyone to do their bidding. It seemed so real that I could feel myself experiencing their fear, panic and anger. As beautifully written story and a wonderful addition to the Brotherhood Protectors. Elle James writes with a pure talent and obvious love as she leads us on the rollercoaster ride we never want to leave. Fantastic storyline. Characters I now consider to be friends. A pure and beautiful love that will endure. Couldn't recommend highly enough. Way more than just 5 stars
After losing his wife and son, and then his buddy, Cole has hit rock bottom and turned to a bottle. Jake finds Cole stumbling out of a bar and takes him somewhere to talk. By the end of the conversation, he convinces Cole to join the Brotherhood and has an assignment for him. All Staci has ever wanted to do is give back. Now she is a doctor in a town where strangers are not welcome. She was accepted until she started questioning everything going on. Now she is in a cell in a mine tunnel. Cole has gone into the town looking for the doctor and ends up in a cell. There are others there also that just happened to have stumbled upon the town. Now he just needs to figure out how to get free. Staci and Cole are free and trying to figure out how to get help when the daughter of one the men save the day. Hopefully help arrives soon.
Bryce has lost his best friend who had a family waiting for him to return from this mission, retire and get a job with Brotherhood Protectors. He is approached by them with a job offer. He has nothing to lose so he’s going to give it a shot. Staci is a new doctor and desperately wants to give back to the underserved. She goes to a small town in the Colorado mountains with very limited access. When her father doesn’t hear from her, Bryce is sent to find her. She is not the first person to disappear. They are surprised at what they uncover, but how will they escape? Very well written with intrigue, twists and turns. Very interesting and enjoyable read. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book
I received this book as an ARC. Bryce “Cole” Coleman has had nothing but loss in his life. First his wife and son were killed in a car accident and then his best friend was killed in battle. Retired and with nothing to look forward to, he is asked to join the Brotherhood Protectors. His first assignment is to locate Dr Staci Miller who has volunteered her medical services to a small mining community, Glory Valley. After being there a short time , she starts to notice some strange things going on. When she is kidnapped and held prisoner by this backward’s group, Cole must find her. This is a touching story between two lost souls finding each other and getting their HEA. I am a big fan of Elle James books and I can add this to my collection as another great book.
Another rocking good story with the hot Brotherhood Protectors. Cole is mired in anguish after losing his wife and child and then his friend in battle. All he wants to do is drown his sorrows in drink. Staci is working as a doctor in a small mountain community where she notices a number of unexplained anomalies. When she is kidnapped Cole is sent in to rescue her. The story action is fast moving. The setting makes the danger even more precarious. Cole and Staci are drawn to each other’s will to survive the situation they find themselves in and the ability talk to each other. Love finds them in the midst of a dangerous situation.
Rocky Mountain Madness by Elle James is the sixth book in her Brotherhood Protectors Colorado series. What an exciting storyline! I could not put this book down. The action was non-stop and I love that. I enjoyed the steamy parts too. I really liked the characters, especially Staci and Cole. They are both so strong, brave and supportive of each other. What they went through in Glory Valley brough me heart-stopping tension. I was so happy to see Cole want to live and love again after all his losses. I admire Staci's dedication to helping those in need. This is a great addition to the series.
Honestly, the situation in which the protagonists find themselves in this book is the stuff of which nightmares are made, and it is impossible not to be engaged by it and I certainly wasn’t able to put this down till I’d finished it. The Colorado Brotherhood Protectors grow by another operative, and the reason for his joining them is a truly sad one. His first job he at first thinks will be a breeze – but he’s so wrong. There is something eerily spinechilling about the setting of this book, with more than a few Deliverance vibes. Staci and Cole make an outstanding team, and, as always, it was a treat to see the rest of the Colorado team again.
What an interesting storyline. Another chapter in the Brotherhood Protectors Colorado series. This chapter finds Cole on his first assignment searching for a medical doctor, Staci. She's disappeared in the mountains and when he goes to search, it's quite the twilight zone scenario. This book definitely made me smile, especially the introductions to the rest of his teammates, and the cheering in the helicopter. Always a pleasure to read this author and any of her books. Loved the surprise at the end of the book too! I look forward to all her stories, they take me away and into wonderful escapes.
I liked the flow of this story. First, we meet "Cole" Bryce Coleman when the mission he is on goes bad leaving him devastated and out of the military. Being offered a job with the Brotherhood Protectors may be what he needs to save himself. Dr. Staci Miller is working in Glory Valley Colorado, helping the small community that doesn't have any close medical help. When her father is unable to contact her he asks the Brotherhood Protectors to try and make contact with her or find out what has happened to her. Things in Glory Valley may not be all they seem, what happens next leaves Cole and Staci fighting for their lives. This book is a good weekend read with intrigue and romance.
You can see the drama and horror unfolding before you, but cannot look away, you have to keep reading, even as your heart sinks and you just know....it's not going to be good! Fortunately like all Brotherhood Protectors Cole is smart, determined, great at thinking outside the box and has the kickass Staci as his sidekick. This is more of a standalone than previous books in the series as we see very little of the team, and I really like both Cole and Staci but for me the hero of the book is Rebecca. For a teenager she is so strong, especially with the twisted and creepy upbringing she has had, I hope we see lots more of her in future books.
5 stars I received a free copy of the mildly steamy paramilitary romantic suspense novel Rocky Mountain Madness: Brotherhood Protectors Colorado: Book #6 by Elle James and this review was given freely. Dread, loss, disillusionment, and a second chance at both life and love can be found in this tension-filled and action-packed story containing bittersweet and sinister undertones. A mission gone wrong, guilt, a challenge, and a matter of Honor lead to the embittered widowed former Delta Force Operative Bryce “Cole” Coleman joining the Colorado Brotherhood Protector with his first mission to locate Dr. Staci Miller in the nearby picturesque Glory Valley, Colorado.
