Amarantha: an adventurous Mediterranean fantasy novel, with a beautiful soundtrack.

The queen is dead. And so is Lyria’s voice…

When its queen is murdered, the kingdom of Amarantha is thrown into turmoil and Princess Lyria is struck by a strange illness. Torn from her comfortable world of books, music, and family, Lyria must journey afar to find a cure, accompanied by the one person she believes she can trust: Dainefin.

Through the mystical Forest of Hatablar to the lost Isle of Cloch, Lyria is confronted by political unrest, spirits, and disturbing visions about the people closest to her. As she begins to unravel the truth about Amarantha’s past, Lyria realises that there is much more to herself — and the world — than she ever thought before. But can she save her country and herself?

Accompanied by an original soundtrack composed by the author, Amarantha is a Mediterranean fantasy novel full of magic, memorable characters, and a heroine who will stop at nothing to save the people she loves.

Amarantha is an inspiring fantasy tale of healing and discovery with an accompanying original soundtrack that take you on just as much of an adventure as the story.

We follow Lyria, the princess of Amarantha, who upon losing her mother is struck by a strange ailment that has stolen her ability to speak and is encouraged by her trusted mentor to venture on a journey to find a cure. Her condition has left her with an ability to communicate and be understood through her emotional link to other people, something her mentor calls the Emphatic Aura. Through this connection and her travels across the continent, Lyria comes to learn more about herself as well as the truth about the people and world around her.

"Life will sometimes force us to make very difficult decisions, but if Aur-Lee has taught us anything, it is that we have the capacity to face every difficulty, every failure with courage."

With a fast paced narrative Traina introduces us to an array of intriguing characters and weaves an engaging story through the world she has created. Lyria is a wonderfully written character full of so much compassion and drive to help those around her. I quite enjoyed following her on her journey of finding her place in the world and forming friendships as well as exploring the vast corners of the kingdom beyond Amarantha and all of its history and folklore.

I will admit I got a little lost when it came to the passing of time as it varied throughout but the overall storyline came together in a satisfying way and I really enjoyed it.

And as mentioned before the soundtrack is wonderful and really adds to the atmosphere that the writing already evokes. My favourite tracks from the soundtrack are Who You Are and the Denhole Theme. You can check out the soundtrack here.

If you enjoy stories within stories, books involving journeys and quests full of music and a dash of folklore magic then definitely check this book out!
