Jinx McGee saw her first demon when she was five…and looking in a mirror.
Never one to let life get her down, Jinx turns her unfortunate state of demonic possession into a lucrative career as a demon hunter. It takes a demon to find a demon, and Jinx's demon is superior at finding the others…when inclined to cooperate.
The hours suck, management’s deadly, and her co-workers are almost as weird as her. Still, it beats retail. And once she’s worked enough cases, she’ll figure out how to separate from her demon and live happily—and normally—ever after.
But a rebellion is brewing in hell that threatens earth. The leader thinks Jinx and her personal demon hold the key to his victory. Jinx’s boss believes it makes her a liability and puts her on a strict deadline to sort it out—or else.
And now the smoking hot demon who once broke her heart conveniently shows up to serve as a consultant on the case. But Jinx suspects he knows more about the rebellion than he’s saying.
Trust her sexy demon ex with a second chance and her rag-tag band of fellow demon hunters, including a wolf-cursed Russian giant, a genius with a Wikipedia demon, and the twin demons of technology? Not likely. But it may be her only chance to save the world from Armageddon.
I was born and raised in East Tennessee and spent a great deal of my childhood hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains and wading barefoot in creeks, chasing salamanders, fish, and frogs. We camped a lot, and we loved to tell stories while sitting around our campfire.
Those days of frog chasing sparked my interest in biology, which I pursued in college and later in graduate school. A working scientist by day, I never lost my love of sharing stories. I’ve been an avid reader for as long as I can remember and am thrilled to be working as a writer.
I live in Nashville, Tennessee with my husband, two children, three cats, and my very active imagination.
I enjoyed being introduced to this author and this new world. It was interesting but not as much as I anticipated I guess. Hopefully it will get better as it goes along and I was just going in with exceptionally high hopes from reading the blurb. Don't let that put you off from reading this one though. It is definitely interesting, a bit sarcastic and keeps the action rolling.
“Why was it always some teenager who got to save the world? Why not an almost-thirty career woman who worked for clandestine supernatural police forces?”
Jinx McGee is our snarky, badass demon hunting main character who has been possessed by a demon (named Hannah) since childhood. Along with her demonic and demon-possessed coworkers she works to keep the bad demons in hell where they belong. When a rebellion starts up in hell and puts a target on both Jinx and Hannah, it also brings back her very sexy and very demonic, long lost childhood-best-friend Dominic. This book is full of sass, lovable side characters, and some good old romance. I loved the backstories of all the characters and the world building that was set out in this book. It’s a promising set up for the rest of the series and I’m excited to read more!
Thank you to the author, publishers and Netgalley for allowing me to review this ARC with honesty.
The very first page of this snagged me with the character's beautiful sarcasm and witty sense of humor. The premise sound intriguing and I did enjoy this book from the get go. I will say there were times where I struggled a bit because (and I can't believe I'm saying this) there was too much snark and not enough straight facts. Like I was too busy absorbing the jokes that kept coming and sometimes I think it slowed me down with the plot. But! I did like the plot and near the end it began picking up a steadier pace. I hope to see more or the other characters fleshed out a bit (please do the twins!) as the series continues!
I knew I wanted to review an ARC of this based off of the name of the main character alone Jinx McGee. It just drew me right in when it made me laugh. This book is real fast paced fun story. I'm in a demon hunter mood lately so this book was just up my alley.
the witty banter and sarcasm of Jinx really drew me to her character. reminded me a little bit of Supernatural. I am certainly looking forward to the next book in the series!
Definitely makes me want to check out more by this author!
This was my first book from this author and ended up as a light, fast read. I can't say I didn't enjoy it, but something was off about it, even though I can't quite put my finger on it.
Jinx was your (typical) stubborn & foolhardy, yet brave and resourceful heroine. I liked her sarcasm and sense of humour even though, at times, it felt a little repetitive.
Dominic - her long-lost, childhood demon friend - could have been an intriguing love interest, but his character lacked a bit of depth. I loved the idea that Jinx as a kid had secretly sheltered him while he had been a little demon, all alone in the human world, and that growing up they had relied on each other, becoming more than just friends... before he had suddenly disappeared 10 years before. What bothered me most was that this connection was never explored and that, aside from the undeniable physical attraction between the two, I couldn't see many traces of a deeper bond.
The world-building was complex, but I found it a bit confusing.
All in all, it was a fun, fast-paced read, but it didn't hook me enough to make me pick up book 2 in this series to see what happens next.
~I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thanks to NetGalley and the editor~
Catching Hell gave me very strong new adult Charley Davidson vibes and I'm so not mad at it. I am always on the lookout for new-to-me paranormal series and I'm so glad I snapped this one up.
Jinx has the misfortune of being possessed by a demon but lemons into lemonade and all that she now uses her possessed state to help her very dangerous but lucrative career catching demons. A job gone wrong and a very unexpected blast from the past has her questioning everything. Her demon is acting suspiciously, her boss is possibly an even bigger lying double-crossing brat than she thought he was, and the man she's been looking for for years is now very much in reach. But whispers and more of a potential rebellion have her and her band of fellow demon-possessed associates on a mission playing catch up and hopefully stop armageddon before it starts.
I am always down for a super huge snark fest and Jinx has snark in spades. I loved every second of it! I really enjoyed that Dominic had an almost continuous air of uncertainty about him. In that I mean you were never really quite certain if you could trust him. Maybe that's my own trust issues coming out to play but I was always a little questioning if he was going to double-cross Jinx and possibly the team at any second. ::shrug:: I really like that level of unpredictability when reading mysteries. Maybe I watched too much Scooby-Doo as a kid? IDK.
The secondary characters were a lot of fun, especially the twins. They were awesome.
I am really looking forward to more in the Jinx McGee series.

I thought I hadn’t read this author before, but I have read the first two in the Soul Broker series. I was glad to rediscover this author, and I started this series-starter. I was immediately drawn into the book, and the book never really let me go. While there are a lot of details with this, that didn’t stop me from enjoying the universe this author created. Jinx is a snarky but loveable main character who really doesn’t have much faith in her own abilities. Dominic is a great love interest, and I’m looking forward to finding out more about the both of them. Add in Lacey, Mara, Boice, and Roice, among others, and there is a great cast of characters keeping the reader entertained throughout the book. No, it isn’t perfect, but it is perfectly fun. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
I requested a copy of the book via net galley to read because it looked interesting and I was looking for new authors to try. I didn’t expect to get it but I was sent one. I put it aside to read next. Let me tell you that this was a great new find. The author built a wonderfully delicious and complex new world with complex, funny, and lovable characters. A new take on the demon hunting/demon/celestial world. I loved the MC, Jinx McGee, because she was funny, confident, weird, in your face type (don’t give a s***) of heroine. I love strong heroines/MC especially if women. She has her vulnerabilities but doesn’t take shit from most ppl. The author also built a great set of supporting characters that I would want to see and explore more in coming books which can’t be done by all authors. Overall I want to continue the series and can’t wait for book 2.
This book was so much fun! I always love a good urban paranormal romance and this one was top tier! Jinx and her amazingly eclectic found familie work together as demon hunters. Everything goes according to plan until she runs into her ex, a demon. A dark haired, super tall, muscle-on-muscle demon.
This was my first introduction with this author and I need more asap! Catching Hell is fun, witty and super entertaining, Jinx is just like your favourite fantasy heroine. She's witty, sassy and can kill everyone who deserves it. Her banter with her roomies and her sexy ex only adds to all the fun.
This book pulled me in and entertained me from start to finish. don't mind me if you see me re-reading this until I get the sequel in my hands!
I was provided a complimentary copy trough Netgalley which I voluntarily reviewed.
Jinx McGee is a great new urban fantasy heroine to root for. She's brave enough to run toward trouble and bold enough to cause it all on her own. Jinx's family—chosen and of birth—and the characters that populate Nashville's underworld—as well as the actual Underworld—hold their own and I'm looking forward to learning more about them. It's difficult to know who the baddies are in a book centered on demons, but that makes discovery all the more fun as Jinx uncovers who she can really trust, and if that could be a Mr. Tall, Dark, and Demonic from her past.
Catching Hell is all the best things about a carnival ride with none of the downsides—a great series opener and I cannot wait for more.
First for me from this author but I wasn’t disappointed. There’s a lot going on, demons, celestials and more so prepare your brain for over load on characters and characteristics of those peeps. All in all I enjoyed this, Jinx is my kind of heroine snarky but brave. I’ll definitely pick up book 2 in this series to see what happens next. This was an advanced reader copy gifted from the publisher in exchange for an honest review via Netgalley.
Catching Hell is the first in the Jinx McGee series. Jinx is a demon hunter who just happens to have a demon inside her. She’s snarky (at times too much) and a bada$$ with a quirky cast of characters helping her out. Fun twist with this new PNR series. The storyline was fast paced, but confusing at times. It all makes sense in the end. Enjoyable read with what looks like more to come.
Gotta Love Jinx! She is my kind of FMC. Realizing so much so young and making it work for her as she grows up! Everything about this story kept me turning pages and the only down side is waiting for the next book. I Loved It! I highly recommend for Fantasy Readers!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
loved it !!! a great start for a new series !!! love Jinx !!! love Dominic !!! this is their story... a fast paced fun read... just loved it !!! Jinx is a demon hunter and she has a merry band of misfits helping out... then, there's her ex... so much fun...

They say “ It takes one to know one.” Well in Jinx Magee’s case, it’s true. As a demon hunter being possessed by a demon has helped countless times. Now she has to stop a world ending event.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Well written and endearing characters along with an engaging story line made this book a great series starter and kept me hooked from start to finish. Can't wait to see what happens next.

This one was a really fun read that I absolutely loved. Jinx was a very memorable character and she captured my attention from the start to the end. i can not wait for the next book, as i need more jinx and her ragtag band of helpers
I liked this. Catching hell is about a company of demon hunters that track and police demons. Their goal is to reduce the havoc caused by demons on earth.Jinx is a demon Hunter. She discovered she was possessed by a demon at the age of five. A little young for a demon possession but Jinx and her demon managed to keep things under control. Jinx lives and works with a myriad of characters some are demons some are demon possessed and some are angels. There is a prophecy which describes an upcoming war between the demons and the celestials. Jinx and her group of warriors are trying to figure out their own roles in helping to stop the prophecy from coming true. Meanwhile there is the relationship between Dominick and Jinx that was thwarted when they were kids but has seemed to be back on track. There are many secrets and trust issues but they look like they will work it out. They have a prophecy to stop first. I liked this but it took me a long time to finish. I fell like the relationship with D was described to the nth degree but the details of how D came to live with Jinx were few and far between. There was a lot of longing and lusting from afar but not much substance to explain the past. A lot takes place when Jinx is knocked out that requires too much explanation. I liked this but there was something missing from the details that made it hard to get into. I liked the characters and the world building. I will probably read the next one because I did like the story. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me an ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
What an interesting and unique start to a new series! I'm no stranger to PNR, so it's always nice to see something completely new.
Jinx is the black sheep of the family. Normal folks might blame her unconventional crash pad with tech savvy nerds, or her fashion taste, but the real reason is that she is demon possessed. She has been possessed ever since she was young, and when she was old enough got pulled in to the world of demon hunting. Having a demon working inside your body makes you specially qualified to hunt down the "bad ones" and make a good living, too. On a normal hunt, though, things take a turn for Jinx.
I have a lot of open questions, but most of them are about D. He's Jinx's possibly, almost boyfriend who grew up in her closet. He's a demon and disappeared on her at a pivotal moment, leaving her alternatively believing he abandoned her or was dead. Surprise - not dead! They have some sizzling chemistry when he reappears, but bring more questions than answers. This story and its extensive cast of characters end up having to face a lot of twisty-turny betrayal and reveals. At the end, while we get to close one chapter, there are several more (books, hopefully!) left for the band of misfits to address. I can't wait to see where this goes!
Catching Hell is a fun, snarky, paranormal mystery with prophesy and a cast of angels and demons who are really not ever telling our heroine Jinx the truth. Jane "Jinx" McGee discovered her inner demon earlier than most, like 10 years earlier at the age of 5. Her demon isn't metaphorical, it's an actual demon living inside her. Being half demon can come with lots of perks, but it also comes with a job. Hunting demons is what Jinx does, that and lie to her family about what she does for work.
During a demon hunt, Jinx finds out that someone in Hell is looking for her and wants her to play on their team. She isn't interested, but it leads her down a path where she discovers who in her life isn't exactly telling her the truth. She juggles the fun, excitement, and fighting that path brings, all while also trying to figure out what is going on with her not so dead boyfriend. Ex-boyfriend, since he's been gone for a decade.
There is a great set-up for the next book, and I can't wait to see what Jinx gets up to next!
Thank you City Owl Press and NetGalley for sending me this book in exchange for my honest review.
I need more asap! This was my first book by DB Sieders and I loved it. This was such a great story and unique!
Jinx is a demon hunter but not only a demon Hunter... she's had a demon as part of her since she was a young child. During a routine surveillance gone wrong, all sorts of new questions come to light. Her childhood best friend (demon friend? Lol) shows up after being missing for 10 years, the demon she's hunting turns out to be a ruse for another demon who tries to steal her demon from her. Now she's against the clock to find out the mystery of what's going on before the boss not only takes her soul but her mom and sisters too.
I can't wait to read the next book and find out what happens!! I want more Dom and Jinx!!!
Disclaimer: I received this book for free from LibraryThing in return for an honest review.
Jinx McGee is possessed by a demon, she calls Hannah. She has turned her situation into a lucrative career hunting demons with the help of her demon. But there is a rebellion brewing in hell and their leader believe Jinx and Hannah are the key to his victory. Her demon ex-boyfriend has also returned after being missing for years. He also knows more about the rebellion then he is letting on. Now it is Jinx and her friends to stop him before it is too late.
Overall I enjoyed this book. I enjoyed the protagonist Jinx. She is dynamic, tough, and sarcastic. On the other hand, I found her boyfriend Dominic to be one dimensional and dull. This supernatural thriller is a great set up to what is sure to be an interesting series. I would read the next book in this series.
This read was definitely not what I expected, haha. Not in a bad way necessarily, but it was different than I anticipated. The writing style was light-hearted and fun, the main character has lots of witty comments and a sassy attitude... there's a good amount of steaminess in the romance, but it just wasn't really a storyline I enjoyed.
Being possessed by angels and demons and the war between realms and the hunting of the bad demons etc etc etc, it just feels a little played out at times when not reinvented in a new, interesting way. Not saying this book was bad or poorly done, it just wasn't my cup of tea.
Fans of Supernatural, sassy main characters, steamy romance, and worlds that are not always so black and white will enjoy this series.
Jinx, since a young age, has been possessed by a demon. Using it to her advantage, Jinx becomes a demon hunter. With something strange happening, Jinx is put in charge of finding the culprit. Along the way, she loses her demon and her childhood best friend shows up. Opinion Like any new sci fi book, there was a little bit of lingo to learn for this book. Once I was semi fluent on the lingo, the book became enrapturing. The multitude of twists and turns this book took kept me on my toes. This book certainly met my quota for action and adventure. The mystery behind who did it had me blindsided at the revelation. I look forward to more books in this series. Many thanks to Net Galley and City Owl Press for providing me with an ARC of this book.
A big thank you to NetGalley and City Owl Press for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is a new author for me and this book is the first in a new series. I found this book to be very convoluted. What is up with everyone hiding who they really are and having multiple names? It is very hard to keep track of all the different names. I did like the book. It's not really a cliffhanger but you know there are more coming. I will read the next in the series. I actually liked Jinx-even though she has her moments-can't find her car, that type of thing. Actually sort of normal. Overall a good read. 3.5 stars
I bought this book because it was recommended by Lisa Edmonds, author of Alice Worth, a series I recommend to y'all!
I enjoyed this intro into Jinx' world of demon hunting enough that I'll continue on with the series to see where it goes. Much of it was predictable, but still entertaining. Overall, a quick, fun read.
If you're a fan of Darynda Jones' Charley Davidson series, you'll probably enjoy Jinx as well. Their sense of humor and approach to things is similar - not too similar as to feel same/same, but enough to feel kinda familiar, comfortable.
Jinx is your typical urban fantasy heroine, snarky, a risk taker, beautiful of course and with an ex she has issues with. This was an okay read but there was nothing to make it stand out from the crowd. While i enjoyed the Jinx and Hannah dynamic, the Ex is just dull and unappealing.
There is nothing wrong with this book, but I have read books that kept me entertained for longer.
I received an arc of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
First, let me say that I was given an early reviewer copy of this in exchange for an honest review (through the LibraryThing Early Reviewer program).
Now that I got that out of the way, this was a fun book but I really wish there'd been more lead up to the reveal of who the real bad guy was. Also, why is every person in the book beautiful? Fun read, but nothing is compelling me to read further in the series.
