Blake is getting on my nerves a little

She is really hot and cold sometimes and I am sick of the police hating her. First the old guy and now the guy she trusted so much! Its so annoying. She finally remembers what happened to her the night of the fire and she has solved another mystery about a missing wife. I am intrigued by this series but its kind of annoying too. I am reading the next one and we'll go from there to see if I continue.

Fair

The beginning of this book was intriguing. However the middle was kind of boring, hard to get thru. The very end was good. Became more interesting, thrilling. We still don't know what happened to Paxton. I thought for sure something would be mentioned about his disappearance. Im still interested in reading on to the next book to see what happens.

Not a bad book, but like all of her other books, it is in serious need of an editor, or at least a run through Microsoft Word for spelling and grammar check. Elle's story's are entertaining, but easy to figure out. These books make for quick reads during my lunch break.

The story is good but someone needs a thesaurus

So many repeats of the same phrases. I’m enjoying the story and I plow through the repetition to get it but a thesaurus is a thing and it isn’t used enough.

Slow

THe jesting between the two female agents was painful to read.
Not as professional as it should be. What's up with the
internam chief. Why is he so abrasive?

Figured this one out pretty early on, but still enjoyed it. These books always leave off on the best cliff hangers!

The mystery continues…

More predictable than the previous books, but not a bad story. I like that these books are not filled with profanity and gore. The stories do sometimes seem to revolve around the banter between the two agents. There was a discernible difference in editing, with this one….as in very little. I lost count of the errors. On to book 9, though….I am invested in the ongoing storyline.

Elle is back with a new series in the Blake Wilder saga. Well done as usual, The Thirteen wasn't quite decimated by Elle and her sister, Kit, in the conclusion of the previous series so someone, unnamed and no clue given as to identity in the epilogue is trying to persuade the man who is presumed to be its shadowy leader NOT to continue the attempts to kill her - there was another attempt on her life, revealed at the end of the book, that occurred earlier but she was unable to remember exactly what had happened until the conclusion. It seems her unknown "protector" is successful at preventing another immediate attempt and Kit is at large, hiding or hunting is not clear, checking in only via video calls occasionally.

That's the larger story. The book itself centers around the disappearance, subsequent murder, of a Seattle attorney. Former Detective Lee, who Blake had friendly relations with and called on for assistance a number of times, in now Interim Deputy Chief and apparently her new foil in the Seattle Police Department (which, I have to say really comes off as incompetent, criminal and one that SHOULD be eliminated not reformed) and as hostile to her, inexplicably, as former Deputy Chief Torres was (who the actual chief is, is never discussed or even mentioned) and who has a lot of loyalists in the SPD who hate her as much as he did and blame HER for his crimes. Men really don't come off well in any of Elle's books. They are thoroughly loathsome creatures, on the whole, criminal and stupid, not an unusual combination but particularly clear here.

The central story is a bit trite, a "best friend" who really wants her friends husband, said best friend IS cheating on her husband, tries to break it off to rekindle things with her husband, so, naturally, best friend kills her and plans to take her place in said husband's life. I've seen this film before and the ending is no better here. It seems the cases her team solves (and the takedown of a HUGE criminal ring in the last book, with national attention and praise, apparently still didn't make much of an impression with her bosses as she still has the same small team) are only distractions from the main plot which still involves the Thirteen, or what is left of it. I still don't like the, bordering on sexual harassment, interplay amongst the team members, that would simply not be tolerated in most work places and is so jarring her in its constancy that it does detract from the otherwise excellent writing and plot lines. Elle does not make law enforcement seem a mentally healthy career choice based on the way her characters minds work and their incessant innuendos, including Blake who should be setting the example but is rather taking part, the line between supervisor and staff is so blurred as to not exist in the FBI, nor the SPD, nor, of course, in the ranks of the people and criminals she comes across. I'd enjoy these more if that was cleaned up and it costs a star for an otherwise well done book.

Always a good ending

What I did not like was the endless descriptions of every room, every person and every scene. Seems to me like they are word fillers. What I liked was there always seems to be a good ending. I almost feel sorry for Blake as she gets beat up a lot by the dark side and she always gets right back into the game. I've always been a bit distrustful of politicians and politics in general and these books don't help, but I love them and can't stop reading them. On to the next one

Great story, keeps you wanting more

I have read the entire Blake Wilder series and enjoyed every one of them, tremendously. Most books series have a definitive ongoing storyline as well as the main theme of the current book, and as a reader it can be hard to be invested in both, but this seriescis an exception. I look forward to each book in anticipation of what adventure/peril will be waiting for Blake with each and every read. Excellent thriller!

Terrific murder mystery

## Much better than 7. I was going to give up on this series, but had already purchased book 8 so I decided to give it a go. So glad I did. This book focuses on the crime and the subsequent investigation. Much less of the subplot. Yay. Although someone still tries to kill Blake, no one is framing her for murder in this one. Well written and interesting for sure.

Going down the rabbit hole, is it who you think.

I have really enjoyed this series. All the books have been good. I would recommend this series to all. This book didn't have Audible. It was still very good. I don't tell what is in the books I read. That is for you to read and find out. Although after I read this series, I will be buying the series for my bookshelf. Off to the next book and adventure.

A twisted thriller

What seems like a somewhat simple missing persons case ends up being anything but. With false leads, unexpected twists and turns, the agents are unsure weather they'll be able to figure it out, and then the case takes a brutal and devastating turn.
It's certainly not a story that you'll want to miss.
I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.

4.5 Stars

I always enjoy the adventures of Blake and her team. This one, seemed to me, had a lot of jarring grammatical errors. I’m prone to them too when making corrections and not rereading the sentences. Dispute the errors it’s another good story. Not allowing bias to cloud your decision making and as always the underlying threat of The Thirteen. Looking forward to he next in this series.

I love these stories about Blake.....Keep them coming😍

I found more typos than usual in this book. I was rather surprised, as I usually note very few! Keep up the good work, I love these stories 😀. My sister and I used to swap information on what were interested at the time but she passed away 18 months ago from COVID but I feel closer to her as I think of what she would think of all the reading I have been doing because I'm not on phone to her😒

Kept me guessing!

I'm reading this series faster than expected because it's definitely always full of twists! This author has a fantastic way with writing the banter between the main characters on the team so it's never seeming repetitive. I appreciate this skill since my favorite kind of novels are a series where I can start with the first one and enjoy the way the characters develop.

Riveting

Blake is still reeling from Mark’s betrayal and Kit is hiding but work goes on and when a rising local attorney disappears and the CDAU inherits the case it’s one oh their most confusing. Was Valerie cheating on her husband? Is there a jilted lover? Did she leave voluntarily? This one has a shocking ending and events that lead to more trouble. Good read.

Great puzzle

Sure can count on Elle Gray to take the reader on a day of indulgence. Diving in to a peace officer's worse nightmare. No clues, no obvious suspects, then false trails that lead them back to square one. Great puzzle and good story leads to a day of enjoyable reading relaxation.

Another great read , plot twists and additional intrigue

Fast paced with multiple twists to the story line. Also brings in continuing story lines from previous books.
The stress of not knowing where Kit is or who is behind the assasination attempts would drive anyone crazy but she handles it and another baffling case . Great read

Many twists and turns

I have enjoyed getting to know Blake Wilder. Blake and her team work well together to find a killer, but keep coming up with dead ends. The sarcastic wit used by the team helps keep their minds coming up with new theories. I liked it and would recommend this book to all mystery readers.

I concur with some of the others. It seems someone has a real hard-on for the SPD. I know local and federal don’t play well together but maybe tone it down a notch. Also agree about the room descriptions. Maybe throw a little heated romance and not so much the deep love being sought. After all, she is a woman and has to have a physical release now and then.

Book 8 did not disappoint

I love the plot twist in this book. Not the happy ending I was expecting. Still in love with this series and highly recommend. Bring on book 9 and let's see what trouble Blake and Astra can get themselves into. Oh, don't forget Kit is still out there somewhere!!!!

Really wish there was an option for 1/2 stars. This one would be 4.5 stars for me. It was jaw dropping but it was solid, just like most of this series has been. I'm invested in all the characters at this point and love seeing where there story is going. Can't wait to start the next one. Made sure I bought them all so I didn't have to wait.

I really enjoy these Blake Wilder stories so much that I can’t put them down. I was confused in this one though because at the end of book before this (The Lost Sister) there was mention of Paxton going missing. But in this book there was no mention of what happened to him. Am I the only one who noticed this??
Also I too notice the grammatical errors but I thought it was my kindle Lol

great book!

I love all these Blake Wilder books and I love Astra too! This is the greatest FBI series I’ve ever read. I love the characters, the plots and twists and mysteries in each book. But they all have quite a bit of grammar and spelling errors. But other than that I love these stories and I hope the author will continue with this series for a long time to come!
