A must read book for the upcoming Generations... Nicely depicts the clashes that happens between the older generation and the new generation. Also the scenery of the Rural life of Assam is beautifully pictured in this book.. ❤️

Pita Putra is set in a beautiful rural town in Assam called Moghouli. The story revolves around Shivanath, a man from a respected family, and his relationship with his three sons Gourinath, Lakshminath, and Kalinath. Through their conflicts and differences, the novel shows how society changes across generations. The cover design, inspired by the Pagan god Janus with two faces looking in opposite directions, nicely reflects the idea of contrasting viewpoints.

The story is easy to follow and engaging in many parts. It also gives a good glimpse into Assamese culture, geography, and social life. The book touches on themes like the impact of India’s Independence in 1947, caste differences, economic inequality, and the gap between rural and urban life. It also shows the contrast between people who fight for change and those who only talk about it.

I wanted to love the book but ended up liking it. The tone of the story is calm and slightly sad, which stays with the book throughout. Overall, Pita Putra is a good novel. I bought it at a very low price from NBT, and it was definitely worth reading.

The beauty of Borgohain Sir’s writings is the image invoking almost intrusive and introspective flow. The writings truly lets you see the world through the characters’ eyes. The story is set in and around his ancestral place of Dhakuwakhana, Lakhimpur District in Assam where my roots lie as well. So to have the opportunity to truly get a glimpse of that society was something I am grateful for. A beautiful story across generations which brings out many inherent issues of the Assamese society.

It is very rare that a translator picks the essence of what a native writer tries to portray. The emphasis on nature as Shivanath tackles the brutality of life’s dynamism- makes one realise the genius of Borgohain Sir.
A masterpiece of its own accord
