Louise Hay was born to a poor mother who married Hay's violent stepfather. When she was about five, she was raped by a neighbor. At fifteen she dropped out of high school without a diploma, became pregnant, and on her sixteenth birthday gave up her newborn baby girl for adoption.

She moved to Chicago, where she worked in menial jobs, before moving in 1950 to New York. At this point she changed her name and began a career as a fashion model. She was successful at this, working for Bill Blass, Oleg Cassini, and Pauline Trigere.

In 1954, she married Andrew Hay, but after fourteen years of marriage Louise was devastated when Andrew left her for another woman.

Hay said that she found the First Church of Religious Science on 48th Street, which taught the transformative power of thought. Hay revealed that here she studied the metaphysical works of authors like Florence Scovel Shinn and the Religious Science founder Ernest Holmes.

In the early 1970's Hay became a Religious Science practitioner. In this role she led people in spoken affirmations meant to cure their illnesses. She also became popular as a workshop leader.

She studied transcendental meditation with the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi at his university in Fairfield, Iowa.

In 1977 or 1978 she found she had cervical cancer, and she concluded that its cause was her unwillingness to let go of resentment over her childhood abuse and rape. She refused medical treatment, and began a regimen of forgiveness, therapy, reflexology, nutrition, and occasional enemas, and claims she rid herself of the cancer. She declared that there is no doctor left who can confirm this story, but swore that it is true.

In 1976 Hay wrote a small pamphlet, which came to be called "Heal Your Body." This pamphlet was enlarged and extended into her book You Can Heal Your Life, which was published in 1984. As of February 2008, it is still on the New York Times best sellers list.

Around the same time she began leading support groups for people living with H.I.V. or AIDS that she called Hay Rides. These grew from a few people in her living room to hundreds in a large hall in West Hollywood. Her work with AIDS patients drew fame and she was invited to appear on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" and "Donahue" in the same week in March, 1988.

You Can Heal Your Life immediately landed on the New York Times Best Sellers List. More than 35 million copies are now in print around the world in more than 30 languages and has been made into a movie.

Louise Hay established Hay House Publishing. It is the primary publisher of books and audio books by Deepak Chopra and Doreen Virtue, as well as many books by Wayne Dyer.

In addition to running her publishing company, Hay runs a charitable organization called Hay Foundation that was established in 1985.

Change your thoughts change your life!
Probably the hardest thing you will ever have to do in you life, but it actually works, I read Louise Hays first book "You Can Heal Your Life" about ten years ago and started turning my negative thought patterns into positive ones with affirmations, then stood back and watched my life start to change for the better!
This little gem helps to remind you to always keep speaking to yourself with positive affirmations, it has them on each page (dated each day of the year), I randomly open it up each morning and it always seems to fall open with something that I need for that day. If you only ever read one book in your life then make it You Can Heal Your Life, because it will change you, for the better!

If I could give 10 stars, I would.

Every morning, during the lockdown period March - May 2020, when I woke up, I read 2 day affirmation; and like this during 6 months.

It helped clean my soul, not only for a day, but for a long period of time.

It gives us so positive and proactive affirmations.

"Life loves you, and so it is."
It is a blessing to know we are all loved by the Universe.

Thank you Louise!

Menudo desperdicio.

A great way to start each day

I enjoyed reading this book as it was read to me through Audible. Each day brought a new lesson which could be read/listened to in sequence or randomly. As you go through the book, enjoy each lesson. Apply the ones that feel right for you at that time. Later come back to the others and you may be amazed how they suddenly fit. This book is for everyone. Louise has a way of teaching lessons for everyone. She always gets her messages across even if people don't realize it when they first hear them.
I would like to see an updated version of this book published through Audible with each day as its ow chapter. There were many times I wanted to share a lesson with someone, but there was no way to find it in the audio version. Each month is a chapter and it was a drawback for me.

A beautiful daily wisdom book. The book is broken up into short entries that separated with dates. Just flip to the date of today and read Louise's inspiring words. I usually make it a habit of picking up this book after I meditate. Her words and knowledge in each page are sweet reminders of the truth of life.

This has been a daily resource for me since I checked it out from the library eleven months ago. I purchased my own copy last year, and love the daily affirmations within it. It helps me return my focus at the end of each busy day, and helps me begin each day with purpose toward living a life of love toward myself and those around me.

This book is designed to be read a page a day.. It starts Jan 1st goes to Dec 31st etc.. I got this at the library so didn't have the luxury to read a day at a time. The messages are good but VERY repetitive. Felt like same shit diff page for 365 pages.

Not for everyone, but I enjoyed the positivity and the hopeful vibe of this book. It lifted my spirit. And I really enjoy these types of book from which you can read one message of wisdom per day. For those who enjoy affirmations and positive thinking.

This is a great book and helped me to be more positive in the way I think about myself, my life, my family, friends, school, and work. I wanted to read a book to make me understand that I don't need to worry and that even if something goes wrong in life it's not all bad and it's not my fault. This is a fabulous book and I believe everyone should read it because it just makes you see yours and others lives in a new perspective.

The only thing I had a problem with is that it was made to read a page a day and by being a book worm I thought that was a bit restricting.

Overall a great read and will definitely read again at the beginning of next year.

I'm pretty much a Louise Hay fan. I always feel better when I read or listen to her. I read one of these every day and then several more. I like having a little bit of her in my life all the time.
