This story is all about Yuuma Hirose a worker in an amusement park who caught a kidnapper sexually abusing a child in one of their restrooms. There he met Hazuha Shikiori who has a Disassociative Identity Disorder.
This manga hurts my 心。A beautiful and quick read for me. A dear friend of mine recommended this to me and I am quite happy she has found a masterpiece for us to talk about. The art style of this manga is so beautiful. I just can't help but stare at the characters' faces because of how good looking they are.
I was informed to not take the DID aspects of this too seriously and criticize it. I was told to just enjoy my reading experience and the story itself.
Truth be told, I came here because of the smut but stayed because of the plot. The idea of DID in a BL is quite fascinating and I really like how it wasn't sexualized and how the story doesn't revolved around Hazuha switching multiple personalities just to spicebup the seggs scenes, or that it wasn't all just about seggs. It's all about how one had created those alters to handle the situation in which the others cannot.
Our main character, Yuuma has helped our seme get through his trauma and helped him heal and make the original alter, Rei, realized that it's okay to be flawed and that Yuuma accepts all of him and that he will support Rei get through it all.
The story is considered smut because it has seggs but it's just all about Rei getting professional help with his mental disorder and how his love one helped him accept himself.
If you like reading a story that tackles about characters that suffers with mental disorder and is also has a sweet ending then this manga might just be for you.

Mit Die Rippe des Adam erscheint bereits Atami Michinokus zweite Reihe auf dem deutschen Markt. Und auch hier beweist die Mangaka wieder, dass sie einiges an Story in einen Band packen kann, ohne das es überladen oder zu flach wirkt.
Das Thema, an das sie sich hier herangewagt hat, ist sicherlich kein leichtes. Dennoch finde ich die Umsetzung richtig gut gemacht. Man sollte aber bedenken, dass das immer noch Fiktion ist und kein Tatsachenbericht und dadurch einige Dinge höchstwahrscheinlich einfacher erscheinen, als das in der Realität wäre.
Jedenfalls finde ich Shikioris verschiedenen Persönlichkeiten super gut dargestellt. Krass wie sich teilweise die gesamte Aura des Charakters ändert. Das muss man als Mangaka erst einmal drauf haben. Außerdem mag ich seine Aufrichtigkeit.
Aber auch Yumas Gedankengänge sind nachvollziehbar und ich bewundere, dass er die Situation einerseits so leicht hinnimmt und andererseits auch ernsthaft darüber nachdenkt.
Meiner Meinung nach hat die Mangaka hier eine spannende, herzliche und auch Zerrissenheit aufzeigende Geschichte geschaffen, die mich total mitgerissen hat. Die zudem trotz erstem Thema nicht zu schwer wirkt.
Das einzige kleine Manko, ist für mich deren erstes Zusammentreffen und dass da so ein extremes Thema aufgegriffen musste, welches irgendwie so abgehandelt wirkte.

I would not have purchased this if I had known that DID was the focal point. It is embarrassing that I had no clue what this was about, reading one paragraph on the back of the manga was all it would have been. I just trusted this too much, enjoying the author’s other works and having this on my to-read list for so long. Then I saw a special hardcover edition with sprayed edges, and I was sold. That is also why I rate both volumes at once, I have a complete edition I couldn’t find here, and I am too lazy to figure out what chapter belongs to what volume.
First, the elephant in the room. It is a complicated mental illness that has been butchered in media for ages. I am not sure if I have ever seen it not being butchered. Then, it is extremely fetishised here. If I overlook all that, it is an enjoyable read. But the manga is overall strange about the sexual content. At the beginning, there is on page harassment of a child. Awful. I was shocked. Then, the Rei just forces himself onto Yuuma. I know behaviour like that can come from trauma, but we aren’t going over the psychology of it. Then, Liam and Koutarou just have random sex while talking about someone else's disorder. It was just so strange. I am all for those two having sex (lol), but there is a time and a place, and stuff you do not talk about during. I also dislike how Yuuma just merged an alter as if it were light work, and of course, it had to be the female identifying one that was “uncomfortable” to be around. I know it was supposed to be a sweet moment, but I disliked it.
Now, have to say, the representation isn’t terrible. It is obvious that research was done and effort was put into this. It is something I am really grateful for, I love when people don’t just use things without doing any research. Still, it is anything but perfect. Like triggering an altar to get another out on purpose and having one third party “fix” the whole thing because they are special. I am still glad that the treatment itself isn’t too far off. Still, it makes things seem so easy. He is almost being wonder healed what would be years of therapy just done in a day. I honestly cannot agree with other people that this is good representation, even with having in mind that not two people are the same. This isn’t outright offensive and tries, but… yeah. He was also basically cured at the end.

“Die Rippe des Adam” hat mich als Werk rundum überzeugt!! Der Zeichenstil ist wunderschön, genauso wie das Cover.
Yuma arbeitet in dem Freizeitpark “Dream Land”, wo er sich mit dem neuen Mitarbeiter Kazuha ein Zimmer teilen soll. Schnell stellt sich jedoch heraus, dass Kazuha mehrere Persönlichkeiten hat. Anfangs braucht Yuma seine Zeit, um dahinter zu kommen, doch ab einem gewissen Punkt verhält er sich sehr umgänglich mit jeder seiner Persönlichkeiten und kann sie auseinanderhalten.
Yuma sucht sich Hilfe bei seinem Cousin Kotaro, der Psychiater ist, doch der charakterstarke Rei wehrt sich dagegen, denn nach der Therapie wird nur die Kernpersönlichkeit übrig bleiben.
Das Thema Multiple Persönlichkeitsstörung wird in dem Manga sehr oft beleuchtet und rückt in keiner Szene wirklich in den Hintergrund. Da ich persönlich keine Berührungspunkte mit dem Thema habe, kenne ich mich auch nicht aus, aber in der Story wird vieles sehr verständlich an den Leser gebracht, da auch Yuma noch nie zuvor sowas erlebt.
Dennoch ist der Manga abwechslungsreich, aufgrund der vielen Persönlichkeiten. Neben dem Hauptthema wird auch der Beruf von Yuma im Freizeitpark gezeigt und hin und wieder wird es auch spicy zwischen den ein oder anderen Seiten von Yumas Mitbewohner.
Die Charaktere sind alle sehr ausführlich und detailreich geplant. Diese Story kommt mir sehr realistisch vor und lässt einen guten Einblick in dieses Thema zu.

Huh. So this was suprisingly entertaining. Using dissociative identity disorder (DID) as a plot device for a BL manga felt a bit iffy beforehand, but having read the first volume I think that it's mostly well handled so far. I doubt that it's very realistic, but it's not entirely stupid or gimmicky either. The author seems to have put some thought into how the various personalities play out.
There are some tonal shifts in the story that gave me whiplash (). What I did like a lot was that the dialogues felt very natural. Whether that was thanks to the translation or the original writing I can't tell, but but manga dialogues can often be super cringe/expository/stilted and I appreaciate that this wasn't the case here.

Wieso heißt der Manga "Die Rippe des Adam"?
Ich mag aber die Darstellung der gespaltenen Persönlichkeit. Sie ist sehr nah dran daran, was ich mal in Dokus und auf Youtube gesehen habe. Nur dass mit einem Getränk eine Persönlichkeit verschwindet, das finde ich seltsam.
Außerdem der Sexpart. Sehr unnötig. Dadurch kommt der Rest der recht interessanten Story viel zu kurz. Generell kommt alles viel zu kurz. Aber daran hab ich moch mittlerweile gewöhnt, dann das ist ein Problem von Mangas generell.

I don't know man... it's genuinely intriguing with an interesting set of characters and an actual mystery and drama aspect. It's kind of hard to tell how well DID is portrayed but to me (an outsider) it doesn't seem disrespectful.
It's definitely more than I expected from a smutty BL manga, I'm gonna be honest with you.

Ich war am Anfang ein wenig verwirrt aber je mehr die Geschichte voranschritt desto mehr wurde mir bewusst wie gut der Manga ist. Im Gegensatz zu anderen BL 18+ Manga geht es hier nicht nur um Sex sondern es hat einen klaren Plot.

I don't even know how to review this manga. I'm trying to process everything I've read! It affected me so much that I don't even know how to put what I feel into words! It was one of the best manga I've ever read related to mental problems. I learned so much, I lived the characters as if I were with them, I cried with them. This manga is a masterpiece!
