Immer, wenn kurze Reihe so ernste Themen haben, wie die Rippe des Adam, schwingt ein wenig Sorge mit, ob der Abschlussband dem Auftakt wirklich gerecht werden kann.
Und Spoiler, diese hier kann. Für mich war insgesamt alles rund!
Das liegt zum einen daran, dass ich die Reaktionen der Charaktere sehr menschlich finde. Mitsamt ihren Höhen und Tiefen. Dadurch wirkt die Handlung nicht so aalglatt. Gleichzeitig finde ich es nach wie vor hervorragend wie Yuma alles tut, um die verschiedenen Persönlichkeiten anzuerkennen. Und das obwohl auch er emotional verwirrt ist.
Die Erzählung lässt zu, dass Leser:innen beide Seiten verstehen und irgendwie nachempfinden können. Das ist für mich immer ein fettes Plus!
Zudem hat mich die ein oder andere Entwicklung ziemlich überrascht.
Außerdem fand ich das bildhafte Zusammentreffen der verschiedenen Persönlichkeiten wirklich toll dargestellt. Was mich zudem tief beeindruckt, ist dass sich die Ausstrahlung dieser Persönlichkeiten so stark unterscheidet.
Ich habe keine Ahnung, wie realistisch der Verlauf in Bezug auf die Persönlichkeitsstörung ist. Doch das spielt für mich auch gar keine Rolle, denn es ist und bleibt Fiktion.
Meiner Meinung nach, sind die Geschehnisse nachvollziehbar und die Charaktere greifbar. In diesen zwei Bänden steckt für mich eine großartige Geschichte, die mich berührte und mitfiebern lies.
Zudem ist es toll, dass die Mangaka sich an ein solch spannendes und schwieriges Thema herangewagt hat. Meinerseits eine fette Empfehlung.

Ich bin kein Psychiater, aber es kam mir etwas zu leicht vor, die ganze Conclusion. Aber es war trotzdem eine sehr süße Sache

I would not have purchased this if I had known that DID was the focal point. It is embarrassing that I had no clue what this was about, reading one paragraph on the back of the manga was all it would have been. I just trusted this too much, enjoying the author’s other works and having this on my to-read list for so long. Then I saw a special hardcover edition with sprayed edges, and I was sold. That is also why I rate both volumes at once, I have a complete edition I couldn’t find here, and I am too lazy to figure out what chapter belongs to what volume.
First, the elephant in the room. It is a complicated mental illness that has been butchered in media for ages. I am not sure if I have ever seen it not being butchered. Then, it is extremely fetishised here. If I overlook all that, it is an enjoyable read. But the manga is overall strange about the sexual content. At the beginning, there is on page harassment of a child. Awful. I was shocked. Then, the Rei just forces himself onto Yuuma. I know behaviour like that can come from trauma, but we aren’t going over the psychology of it. Then, Liam and Koutarou just have random sex while talking about someone else's disorder. It was just so strange. I am all for those two having sex (lol), but there is a time and a place, and stuff you do not talk about during. I also dislike how Yuuma just merged an alter as if it were light work, and of course, it had to be the female identifying one that was “uncomfortable” to be around. I know it was supposed to be a sweet moment, but I disliked it.
Now, have to say, the representation isn’t terrible. It is obvious that research was done and effort was put into this. It is something I am really grateful for, I love when people don’t just use things without doing any research. Still, it is anything but perfect. Like triggering an altar to get another out on purpose and having one third party “fix” the whole thing because they are special. I am still glad that the treatment itself isn’t too far off. Still, it makes things seem so easy. He is almost being wonder healed what would be years of therapy just done in a day. I honestly cannot agree with other people that this is good representation, even with having in mind that not two people are the same. This isn’t outright offensive and tries, but… yeah. He was also basically cured at the end.

As expected, by the end the DID does turn into a bit of a gimmicky sex thing, but the rest of the volume treats the topic fairly reasonable. With less personalities left, the story reads more coherent and gives more room for explanations and character development. Still pretty sure that the depiction is hardly realistic, but if you ignore that it's entertaining enough.

fetishizing mental illness like this is a HUGE no-no but reading the mangaka's notes at the end, it's pretty obvious the publisher forced her hand to make it more sexual so an extra pity star i guess....

Nach dem Cliffhanger im ersten Band, denkt Yuma öfter darüber nach, was für Folgen die Therapie mit sich bringt. Nach und nach verschwinden Persönlichkeiten und zum Schluss stellt sich die Frage, ob die wahre Persönlichkeit am Ende übrig bleibt oder sich eine andere durchsetzt.

I don't even know how to review this manga. I'm trying to process everything I've read! It affected me so much that I don't even know how to put what I feel into words! It was one of the best manga I've ever read related to mental problems. I learned so much, I lived the characters as if I were with them, I cried with them. This manga is a masterpiece!
