I really wanted to like this study. But I found the book, although it was shorter, to be disjointed and did not flow as well as the books by Lisa Brenninkmeyer, that made up the first two seasons of my Walking with Purpose experience. I also did not bond as much with the women this time.
The book had some good themes to discuss, but I found the scripture references to not be as relevant as I expected. Some chapters had wonderful thoughts about women and friendship, and the scriptures seemed to be leading us to Jesus or a certain book of scripture. Other times it was the reverse. The scriptures quoted had a distinct path somewhere, but the meat of the chapter did not. Much of the chapters dealt with our inner life with Christ, something that is good in itself, but did not mesh well with the lesson on friendship. Yes, we want to be good women of Christ, and we want to be good friends to one another, but spending the first two chapters on what makes a bad friend or what frustrates us was not the best way to begin, in my opinion. I also felt that some of the questions in each chapter were very personal. We began a new season and a new group with this book, and I felt that we really needed to get to know one another better before I was comfortable sharing my feelings on some topics. Many of the stories people shared were about work colleagues or family members, and not friends at all. I felt very disconnected in this book, and with the ladies in the new small group this season. I hope the next book is better.
Love walking with purpose Bible studies, and this one was particularly wonderful. Mallory Smyth is a refreshing voice to this program and her weekly video segments with an added bonus.
