I’ve never had a complicated love life. I’ve always known what I want. I want Lyric Sharpe. Enter Captain DJ Rens and one drunken night that I can’t forget. Not for lack of trying. And just to complicate my life more, I had to go and add Mariah Carter to the mix. But I don’t really have a chance to sort my feelings out before all of us are put into serious danger.
Lyric:
I’d resigned myself long ago to the single life. I’m far too sassy, and too much of a brat for men, apparently. I guess being a cop who knows what she likes is wrong. So when I meet Matt, my direct commanding officer, I’m thrown totally off my game when he shows interest. The problem? I have a serious thing for my roommate, Mariah, and my Captain, DJ. Feelings I don’t get to explore before we all start receiving threats to our lives.
DJ:
The idea of being a Captain who sits behind his desk has never been appealing to me. When I got my promotion, I did it with the stipulation that I was still allowed to patrol the streets of Gainesville like I loved. But when Mariah enters my life, I regret everything about that decision. I wish I’d never met her because now she’s all I want. Everything I can’t have. To complicate my life more, I fall for Lieutenant Matt Chance and Lyric, another patrol officer. When all of our lives are on the line, I must figure out a way to protect those I love.
Mariah:
I fell hard for DJ when I first met him. I didn’t know my partner was my Captain, though, and the blow was heartbreaking, knowing he’d never be mine. It’s totally forbidden to date my boss. The feelings never go away, though. Even after a drunk night of mindblowing passion with Lyric, my roommate. When we all start being threatened by a large gang, Matt comes to the rescue like an Avenger. But sorting out my heart will have to wait. The focus is our lives because we might not make it out of this one breathing.

Breaking Boundaries has to be my favorite out of all the standalones in the Beautiful Dream series by Melony Ann. Breaking Boundaries features a polyamourous relationship between Captain DJ Rens, Lieutenant Matt Chance, Police Officer Lyric Sharpe, and Police Officer Mariah Carter.
Breaking Boundaries was a phenomenal book. The romance, suspense, and mystery kept me on the edge of my seat and I can see the growth in the author’s writing in her newer books.
This book was spicy and I wasn’t expecting it to be as good as it was. It was a very well-written book, the plot was well developed, and the characters were phenomenal.
The underlying message of self-acceptance and taking care of one’s needs before someone else’s is beautiful and something I fully resonated with. I’m looking forward to more polyamorous books from Melony Ann as I think she’s done an amazing job with this one.
This is my first book by Melony Ann and this is the newest addition to the Beautiful Dream Series. I’m new to this series and was told there’s no particular order to read them.
I’m going to start this review off with a warning… Once you start The Breaking Boundaries, clear your schedule. Seriously. You won’t be able to put this one down! At the end of every chapter you’ll be wanting more!
I love books with a lot of steam, but this book was special in so many ways besides being just steamy.
And by steam I mean...this book broke all the charts. But that’s not all it was. It had an interesting and captivating story, strong and fascinating characters and a lot of heart!
To be honest this book turned out to be so much better than I had expected. This installment in the series was intriguing and held my attention from the beginning until the end. Maybe because the plot was so well developed or maybe because I found the main characters to be endearing and fascinating, but this one really worked for me.
This story was well written, steamy as hell and totally unputdownable. ❤❤
I can’t urge you enough to give this one a try! And even if that’s not your thing, I would still recommend it. The story is just that good!
Now excuse me while I go read all the other books in the series!
For my followers who prefer clean or Hallmark style romance this might not be the book for you.
At first glance one might think this is a story about hot sex, lust, and polygamy. While those are all key components they’re not what stood out to me. This book addresses the struggle of accepting oneself. Author @melonyann created characters that make you feel for them. She delves head first into complicated but relatable emotions. The standout character for me is Mariah. Throughout the book we see Mariah grow. She goes from being this emotionally scared girl to a woman who knows what she wants. While we might not all deal with the sexual confusion Mariah faces, we have had moments in our lives where we struggled with a decision that was right for us but our family might not agree.
So while this isn’t my typical book to read or review, I’m glad I had this opportunity. I think most zero in on the hotness factor, which is why I wanted to address the more serious issues in the book. It’s definitely not for everyone, especially those who aren’t into polygamy or exploring sexual orientation but if you are into those things or you’re open to the idea this book was a great read.
This novella is part of Melony Ann's The Beautiful Dream Series. All books in this series can and should be read as standalones. I received this book as an ARC read with the rest of Melony Ann's books. This is the second series that I have started of hers, I am definitely liking this one better than the last.
Melony is an excellent writer. This is why I keep reading her books. Her storyline flows and keeps you intrigued. While her content may not always be my taste, she has done an excellent job grammatically and plot wise.
STEAMY LEVEL 5/5
POV: Mariah, Lyric, Matt and DJ. They switch back and forth throughout the whole book.
Triggers: cop romance, mental health issues, harassments, FF romance, FMF romance, MF romance, murder attempts, drugs, etc.
This was not my favorite of her books. All four main characters are involved with each other. I don't understand how that works, but it wasn't my cup of tea.
Mariah, Lyric, Matt and DJ are all cops for the Gainsville Police Department.
There is a rogue cop that is bringing the force together to stop his antics and to save Mariah and Lyric's lives.
Will they be able to stop him in time? Will this be the breaking point for all their relationships?
For my followers who prefer clean or Hallmark style romance this might not be the book for you.

Melony has done it again and exceeded my expectations for a book! The book is not only beautifully written, but the story is beautiful, sweet and hot!
As always I love how Mel's books always have so much emotion and you will feel as if you were going through them yourself, like it was your story. The books are also for the most part on the realistic side so it is easier to relate to than most stories you would come across.
This book shows you about acceptance in life through everything, not only about self acceptance but also to not worry/care what anyone else things in the world as it is your life. It is a great message that Mel has put across in this book.
As for all of the other times I said I would never be able to have a favourite couple throughout the Beautiful Dream Series. I thing this one wins because they are all together so its a win! It truly was an experience to read this book and watch the beautiful relationship between DJ, Matt, Mariah and Lyric unfold! And now I am all for love Squares!
Whoa. So this this the newest addition to the Beautiful Dream Series. I’m new to this series and was told there’s no particular order to read them in. I cannot confirm this as I started with the ARC of this one.
It did not disappoint. Not even a little.
Cop romance story. But like - a quad of them. This books starts incredibly steamy and I was not prepared. Initially I was like ew sports because there was a lot of American football talk but this isn’t a sports romance (sports romance is not my thing so that’s a positive for me).
On top of the insane (in a good way) amount of steam this book holds, there’s a really good storyline along with it too. I wanted to know what happened next!
Overall I’m going with 4 stars because there were a few places that were dragging but it’s a great book!
“There is never anything wrong with love. You can’t control your heart, baby.”
Breaking Boundaries is book 6 of The Beautiful Dream series and is a standalone. I loved this story and it is by far my favorite of the series so far!
Matt, DJ, Mariah, and Lyric are all officers on the Gainesville PD. After a series of events occur, they band together to get through the difficult times. We get to see their individual relationships grow as well as all of them together. They are faced with threats against their lives and have to depend on each other to get through it.
This book has action, friendship, mystery, suspense, and lots of spice! I highly recommend this book and the rest of this series!
This story was amazing. Most stories you have to wait a few chapters for some heat. Not even part way through chapter one and and again in chapter two things get heated very quickly. Each chapter is a different character’s point of view and I love seeing each view. All four characters are strong and devoted people. Mariah comes to terms with her sexuality. We get to see her grow. Lyric is a strong partner for her and the guys. DJ and Matt are fierce and loyal. This story has love, passion, just the right level of drama and suspense. This entire series has been so fun to read. This story did not disappoint.
This book was honestly such an amazing. going back into reading Melonys books are amazing as i knew they would be. its the ways she writes all of the characters and how they all fit so well together that makes me fall in love with her stories characters, and writing even more. i love this book it was a cute read and i feel in love almost instantly ad i do with every book of hers i read
This book you didn’t have to wait very long for the steam. It was spicy and packed the heat in a very short amount of time. I also liked that there was a different POV every chapter. It gave a lot of different perspective into each of their backstories. The couples were hot enough as they were but when you put all four of them together it was explosive. Another one of this authors great work.
The way this book is written makes you feel like you're a part of the story. You get to feel all of the feelings and every single part of this book. The characters are relatable and so genuine. Honestly this series just gets better and better the more you read it. You won't be disappointed in this book or any of the ones before it. I can'[t wait to read more
This book was so freaking good!!! The smut was wonderfully written And the romance was so sweet and amazing. I really love the poly relationship and the fact all four of them were cops. Overall this book was well written and addictive!
Yet another awesome installment of Melony's dream series. I give it a full 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟/5
But here's why...
I love the way sam sex relationships are addressed in this book and lived reading every minute of it. It took me a day to get through it and can't wait for the next one.
This was unexpected four way. Matt and Lyric are amazing by themselves, but then you add Mariah and Dj to the mix wow just wow. This was a steamy romance with just enough spicy to bite you in the butt but amazing.
Another great read by this author. Full of hot moments and keeps you very interested. This author has great talent focusing relationships and attraction amongst the characters. Making it a great read with plenty hot moments to keep you hooked.
This whole book is just a loving book and shows how 4 people can come together and live each but her and make it work. It also shows what happens to shady cops and puts the good cops in a positive light. I really enjoyed this book.
This story touched me in so many ways. It made me see the characters differently. I love how protective the guys are. And how Mariah came to terms with who she is. The four of them are so good together, but I also feel that they grew on their own as well. This is an amazing read.
