Avoid Trouble. Trouble like Noah Wood.
Cora hates Alphas — they're arrogant, obnoxious and, in her experience, dangerous. She's worked hard to leave her troubled past behind her and make it to university where she's steering clear of them, even if her body makes her weak and needy for one — and one in particular. After all, Noah may look good, but he's everything she despises.

I love Omegaverse. I really liked Hannah's other stories so far, but this one I'm kind of torn about. I really didn't like Cora. She was judgmental and selfish. She was so set in her ways and thinking about alphas she almost lost Noah completely. And honestly I thought Noah deserved better.

Poor Noah. My heart just bled for him. It seemed he maybe was a little autistic and definitely struggled in social situations and being around people. He was trying so hard to be a good alpha and student and Cora just kept ripping out his heart and dumping on him, even though half of the time it was due to her self centeredness and not realizing how her actions affected him.

In the end, Cora finally decided she was okay with others knowing they were together, after 18 MONTHS of them secretly being together, her holding him and arms length, and Noah helping her through her heats. We really didn't get to see much of the HEA because it seemed it was rushed at the end, plus too little too late.

This has to be the only Hannah Haze novel I haven't liked, and it is entirely because I have never hated an FMC this much. Honestly the MMC deserved better and I wanted the FMC to wallow in a lonesome life of her own creation. Sadly there was an HEA.

Listen this girl, without when knowing this guy, made so many assumptions about every single aspect of his life. They were rude and invasive and she was very vocal about them to his face, even angry that she wanted HIM of all people through all of her heats, to the point that she would insult him because of these assumptions she had with zero basis for them, and he just kept coming back when she called. She even went so far as to be shocked when she found him doing his homework because she assumed (with zero reasons for the assumption) that he paid others to do his homework. Who does she think she is???

And man is she a piece of work. When he's trying to confront her about dancing with someone and letting him put his hands on her (she has yet to explain that it's her gay friend, she's just angry that he's upset about it when she won't tell anyone they're together), her friends (who don't know they're even acquaintances) think he's trying to force her into dancing with him using his alpha bullsht, and start an argument with him, getting extremely pushy with him, while she stands back and explains nothing to anyone. It then ends in one of them getting injured when he tries to leave the situation and pushes a little too hard.

This then leads to weeks of the story spiraling out of control at the school and online in the media, turning it into an "alpha attack" due to aggression, and rumors fly, the story only getting worse and worse. He's almost kicked out of school, and her friend group wants to protest him being at the school and alphas in general for their aggression.....and this entire time she buries her head in the sand, moping around her apartment and says nothing (not even checking in on him) because she's angry that he reacted poorly to her dancing with her friend. She eventually feels guilty, but not enough to say anything still.

This secretive heats-only deal they have goes on for over a year. And then when he's accused of participating in an assault on an omega when he had actually been with her during one of her heats, she almost doesn't step in to tell the truth, but then she's suddenly thinking, "But that's not [me]. [I believe] in doing the right thing."

Girl SINCE WHEN??

She was perfectly fine to sit on her morals when his name was being dragged through the mud, to the point where he's the prime suspect when an omega is attacked. And even then he STILL doesn't tell them where he was because she's been so adamant that no one ever know he helps her through her heats.

This girl did not deserve him. I have never been upset to get an HEA at the end of a book until now.

And yes he had his flaws too, but they were nothing in the face of the FMC's actions throughout the entire book and her holier than thou attitude because she had heard one or two rumors about the guy and didn't care to get to know him better in the year+ they were together before making those rumors truths in her mind.

Lastly, aside from the FMC, I couldn't stand that so much of the story took place off the page. SO much of it. We're told things in past tense, after they happen and we don't get to see the relationship and friendship develop, we're just told it has. "They talk, and after that they're friends. They meet regularly for coffee or a drink..." Okkkkkkk I'll take your word for it I guess.

Honestly I couldn't even like this one for the smut because half of it was ftb or ALSO told in past tense after it happened. I want the day I spent reading this back.

I adored this surprisingly tender and spicy hot Alpha/Omega romance! I have not read one like this before that felt as grounded in reality and dealt with the psychological and emotional consequences of designation on the Alphas as well as the Omegas. I found it really fascinating world-building. The only complaint I have is that this book kept me up way past bedtime!

I was drawn in right away to the action and story. I identified with Cora's independence and rebellion against her designation. Noah Wood is deliciously Alpha but also misunderstood, with a hidden tenderness (the bag of food!) that made me ache for him. The push-pull tension and "enemies to lovers" dynamic between them is not downplayed, which I appreciated. But most of all, I was rooting for them as a couple through the sexy, magnetic pull toward each other and the wonderfully-earned HEA. I was turning the page to the very end. So well done.

Recommended for people who want emotional, tender moments in their spicy A/B/O and realistic world-building.

This is a soft non shifter omega verse romance set in our world. The characters are drawn together even against their better judgement. How will this all turn out?

Great Read

This was such a great story, sucks you in at the start, and holds your attention all the way through. Enemies to lovers, omega-verse, with great emotion, and steamy romance. Definitely recommend.

This is a well written book with strong characters and an entertaining story line. The author brings a great enemies to lovers alpha / omega romance with tons of emotions. I was glued to the pages reading and would recommend this book.

Cora is an Omega studying at Oxford University. She hates all Alphas, but especially Noah, a rugby player with a bad reputation. One night, though, Noah comes across her when she’s in the midst of her heat, and it spirals from there as he helps her through it. What was meant to be a one-time deal, though, keeps on happening, again and again - but can they get over the differences between them?

I liked this more than I thought I would. I bought this on a whim, and I honestly didn’t know what to expect. My last foray into the omegaverse was probably fanfiction, years ago, and whilst there are aspects of the dynamics in omegaverse I enjoy, there’s also some content that’s always squicked me out. This didn’t totally convert me, but I appreciated what it was trying to do.

I’m not familiar with the subgenre as a whole to know if this is common, but I did enjoy the political aspect. The fact there seemed to be far more prejudice against alphas in this particular universe was interesting to me, and I thought it added a different dimension to Noah’s character. I was surprised by how much I ended up liking Noah; whilst he was arrogant and difficult and aggressive, there was a vulnerability to him that I hadn’t expected. There were points in this novel where my heart broke for him. In contrast, Cora got on my nerves a little bit, but ultimately, I did like her as a character. I did like that it was her that was the one who was being difficult about their relationship, who felt shame about being with him, instead of vice versa. It made for an interesting dynamic. But Noah was the character that stood out to me. He was actually capable of being sweet, and he was very endearing.

Their relationship was good. They had really good chemistry, and the sex scenes worked. Some were graphic and some were more subtle, but they were all steamy. I also liked that this novel showed the softer side of their relationship. I don’t think that this would have worked half so well for me if the author didn’t show them getting to know one another outside of Cora’s heats. There were genuinely cute moments, such as him bringing her food and him blowing raspberries on her stomach. It added depth to the relationship.

On the subject of depth, I was also surprised by how much depth I found to this story. Although there is an instalust element to this novel, it actually takes place over quite a long period of time, with plenty of timeskips. This worked really well for me as it allowed space for their relationship to grow and deepen, and it made their relationship feel more realistic. On a similar note, I liked that

My only complaint was that I thought some aspects of the writing could have been a little tighter; there was some clumsy wording, some parts that felt a little overworked or over-dramatic. Some of the side characters felt a little bit flimsy and one-dimensional, which was shame, given that a fair bit of the drama in this novel was external and relating to side characters.

Overall, though, this was a really good and enjoyable read. Sexy but sweet, with a hero who was vulnerable alongside the usual Alpha characterisation. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a non-shifter omegaverse romance with an opposites-attract, enemies-to-lovers couple.

To kick it off I will say I'm not a fan of this writing style.

I read the book in one sitting and I have to say I was NOT rooting for Cora at all.

67% in and I'm scowling at her actions and hoping Noah finds himself someone who deserves him. Cora is judgmental and essentially ashamed of him.

"'I thought you liked me,' he says.....She doesn't answer."

They've been seeing each other so he can ease her heat for over a year and when they admit they like each other she wants to keep it a secret and "go slow". How much slower can you get???

I like to feel the love from my couples. Even if it's enemies to lovers, I like to feel the confusion of I hate you but I'll still do anything for you because I need you in my life. Cora never built him up, she just kept putting him down. She stereotyped him HARD and kept him there even after they slept together OVER A YEAR. I get that she had Alpha trauma but that man has shown you and told you that he wants more and she kept shutting him down and putting him down without getting to know the guy she was screwing.

**Spoiler**

The resolution happens after he's been arrested for an assault that happened while he was with Cora, but didn't use get as an album because he promised he wouldn't really about their relations.

Their HEA happened in one chapter, with the next being the epilogue.

All in all, this book left me mad and wishing Noah chose a better person to be with.

I was in 7 chapters in and it’s basically sex, sex, hateful sex, and bitterness from Cora since she’s needs to keep her grades up and no mistakes or she’s kicked out of college. She grow up in foster care and knows no one has ever given a care about her so she’s all about female power. But no matter how much she needs to prove women are superior her body when in heat needs an alpha male who happens to be Noah freaking Wood. She hates him cuz he’s an alpha, rich and privilege.

Day or two later in this read*

Now a day later up until chapter 14 it’s mostly her hear and his rutting, basically sex with some story. After 14 we get some drama, moping around and some trouble. I love reading passionate stories but a story that 92% sex and the rest in emotional turmoil I would have have passed on it.

Finally, I could end a book again. Got in a heavy book slump, that caused me to start books and read them till the middle or 70 % and then couldn't finish them. This is the first (full and no short novella) book, since New Year, I read in this year.

Luckily, the first book isn't a bad one. 4 stars. I liked the story. Especially, Omegaverse is one of my favorite genres. I'm not much into the normal world setting, but sometimes, like now, after too much fantasy settings with shifters/anxiety stories and a lot of hard stuff, it's right. And I read such non-Shifter Sweetverse/Omegaverse more often since I have read the books from Kathryn Moon (Lola and the Millionaires etc.).

So, it was fine for me. Though, I had my problems with the FMC Cora. I got her feelings and where she comes from. Such upbringing as hers is hard and implants a lot of bad opinions. Still, it was just terrible how she judged and acts during the book. I mean, she knew it was wrong, but instead of being a better person, she just did nothing to help or change anything.

I felt bad for Noah. He did nothing to her, but she hurt him anyway. And he just tried and tried to be a good young man. I could relate to him a lot. For me, social situations are a struggle too. And he was kind and caring. I know Cora isn't a bad person in the core. But it really was difficult with them.

Still, I was glad they got their HEA and overcome their issues. The epilogue of the book is really short and rushed. But I read the extended one too. That was more satisfying, even though it was rushed again.

Gah!! What a annoying heroine! DNF@70%

She is prejudiced, judgmental, and holier-than-thou. Sits there judging the the poor alpha hero, who has been nothing but nice and kind to her. He accepts all the crap she throws at him but still continues to be heartbreakingly tender with her. She uses him for her heats but is ashamed to be publicly seen with him.

She is also part of some sort of omega-feminist movement and keeps up astounding levels of hypocrisy by treating him as a shameful secret. It is sickening the way she sits on her high-horse spouting vitriol about alphas, and how omegas are ill-treated, while at the same time actively seeking him out to see her through her monthly heats.

When his reputation is wrongly tarnished, and he is almost expelled from university, she doesn’t step up nor does she speak up for him, nor does she do anything to help exonerate him. She lets people believe the worst about him because she doesn’t want her omega-feminist friends to know that she’s been boinking him on the side.

I stopped reading the book at 70% because of how frustrating she was. Goodreads reviews tell me that the leads end up having a HEA. And that makes me so sad. The hero deserved SO much better than her. Poor dude, she will make his life miserable.

Giving this book 1 star since Goodreads doesn’t do zero stars.

An enjoyable sweet omegaverse romance.

This romance was sweet. I typically do not read contemporary romances, because I prefer romances with creative world building and very high stakes, but the omegaverse elements to this story made me try it. It was sweet, with good characterization and development of the romantic relationship. As an American, I enjoy the fact that these romances are set in the UK and written by a British author. The fact that none of these romances seem to end with the mating bite or the establishment of the mating bond is quite disappointing, and there is another common element of omegaverse romances missing from the intimate scenes that I wish the author included. I also greatly disliked how far into the novel the heroine treated the hero like a shameful secret. However, I understand that there are not really any good sources of external conflict present in a contemporary romance that is not romantic suspense, so the main story conflict is often one of the characters treating the other character badly. It was well written, and I think this novel would be a good one for a reader of contemporary romance to dip their toes into omegaverse without having to deal with sci-fi or fantasy world building.

Don't judge this alpha by his looks alone

I really liked this steamy Omegaverse read, not only because it had wonderfully delicious scenes between the A/o (duh Omegaverse here 😜), but it showed a more tender side of the Alpha.

In this story, Cora is an independent, free-thinking, opinionated omega that often comes off as a b1tch or stuck-up. She doesn't care as long as no one thinks she's weak or looks down on her because of her dynamic. So there is no way she's going to let even her heat dictate her life, instead she schedules it for holidays so she doesn't miss school or inconvenience anyone. As a strong woman, she can suffer alone, right?!?

Enter Noah. Campus big shot. All the girls want him, all the guys want to be like him. His mom is even Cora's idol. He on the other hand acts like a jaded rich kid; she hates him on sight. She hates his handsome, gorgeous face; his chiseled body, the heavenly way he smells . . . Arghhh

The encounter started because of heat. She blamed on her heat. She hates him; he's a big dumb alpha. But over time somewhere along the way that big dumb alpha shows her there is more than just the stereotype she has labeled him as. Will it be too late to set things right after all the damage she has cause?

Sweet story but not my favorite style

I liked the story. It was sweet and angsty. The back and forth between them, their on and off again relationship, and miscommunication felt like something we could all have gone through. However, the writing style was not my favorite. It read more like an oral story and at times rushed or shallow. For example, ‘after that, they were friends’ felt like something I would hear in story being told to me rather than reading a book. At times it felt forced and I was told what was happening instead of reading it as it happened. Also, the third person usually uses names more than is used here. I can tell this was probably one of her first books written because I’ve read a more recent one and the style of writing was much more experienced and comfortable with a smoother flow.
I like the dynamic of alpha and omega prejudices and how they both struggle against them from society and each other. It was also nice to see the insecurity from the male point of view instead of the stereotypical female point of view.

I struggled with this book....

This book was a struggle. I feel like it needs a rewrite/editor's help. The story was fine, but there were times throughout the book that I had a hard time following along. The beginning is all over the place. I would have to reread sections because paragraphs didn't always make sense.

I will say that for the most part I liked Noah. Cora on the other hand, I did not. Cora treated Noah like a dirty secret. She constantly believed the rumor mill about him. She was able to see herself how fast rumors about him spiralled out of control, how quickly people change a story and facts. She still thought the worst of him. He took care of her and was there for her during her heats, but she didn't do the same in return. She didn't speak up for him and defend/be there for him until it was almost too late. I'm glad they got the HEA, but I had to push myself to finish and see it happen.

Great contemporary OV in a British uni setting, solid characters with very relatable issues. While I was reading I realised I was imagining the characters as the actors from the series "Normal People" lol, because the story has somewhat has similar vibes - two students from different social circles, false assumptions flying around, the MMC being a lot more than what you see on the surface, the FMC coming to terms with her own issues and kinda being unfair towards the MMC in the process (which I liked - it was realistic given the setting). I really liked how quiet & tender their moments together were, and how complex their relationship was when they did spend the heat together. The smut became part of the character study and that's what makes the best smut. :D Great dialogue, generally really competent writing.

HEA
Standalone
Omegaverse, British English
*over 18 readers only *

Cora and Noah start out enemies, but when he catches her in heat alone, he helps her through it. That starts an 18 month long arrangement where he comes to her in her time of need and the rest of the time they are separated. Roughly half way through, they move from enemies to friends to more. But Cora has trust issues, and Noah has a reputation for not only aggression, but betrayed trust. That reputation isn't earned, nor is it true. Him being an Alpha works against him due to society being prejudice, and she fights her natural Omega instincts. No one really knows about them until he's wrongfully arrested. Will she clear his name or leave him to defend himself?

Noah was one of the best Alphas I’ve ever read. He wasn’t an over the top Alpha, but rather someone who struggled to keep his Alpha power in check. The way he struggles to control his Alpha senses in situations reminds me of people I know who experience sensory overload. Alphas are often portrayed as invincible, but Noah had enough of his own weaknesses that made him incredibly relatable and someone to root for.

Cora was a prickly Omega. She was difficult to like, but as the story continued, you could respect why she was the way she was.

I loved how Noah and Cora saw each other and brought out the best in each other. The author made them people with interesting personalities and not just stereotypical Alpha/Omega pairing.

More angsty than her other books. This was the worst I’ve read of this author, both in writing and character development. She has bent far backwards to paint the alpha MMC as likeable and oppressed and the FMC as very flawed, who never satisfactorily grows. Not just the FMC, but many of the other female characters as well. It was so extreme and unnecessary for the plot (here’s looking at you, mom), that I’m trying hard not to go back and look through the writer’s catalog of “sweet” alphas for more men’s rights sympathizing. I will have to take a break, and hopefully with time, I will forget because, damn, it was bliss for a while.

Beautifully bittersweet

This book struck my tragic little heart so hard I couldn’t put it down!

It’s been a long time since I’ve had a FMC that I connected to as much as I did with Cora. So protective of her heart and her emotions she pushed literally everyone away. Until she met the one guy she couldn’t, Noah Wood.

Noah’s guarded behaviour didn’t help much either. And them together was simply a beautiful disaster. But gorgeous storms bring the greenest grass.

I loved this book so much!

3.5

I really like the world Hannah Haze created and the alpha/omega dynamics. The only reason why I didn't rate this book higher is because I felt like there were so many chances for the MCs to connect and bond and get to know each other that were missed. They both had such complicated pasts and lives and not once did the talk about it. Even in the end, when all the miscommunication was over, we didn't get to see them connect over it once.

Overall tho, great steamy omegarvese read

I enjoyed reading about the growth in this relationship. The trials, the family drama and the unexpected passion. The chemistry between the H and h is unreasonable. There is no misunderstanding or  wasted time. So much has been put into the story in such a short time.

I do not like Cora

This book is a quick steamy read, but the main female character, Cora, is so freaking spineless and cruel. It was like that one time in twilight where Bella is all listless and depressed, but in this book it was for so much of it! There wasn’t a lot of character development on Cora’s end.

Good but Angsty!

I really wanted to like this one. The characters are likeable, the plot is good, the steamy scenes are awesome. I like their characters — they’re both flawed in their own ways.

The thing I didn’t like is how Cora rejected Noah for such a large percentage of the book. :/

fantastic book!

I love this couple! I just loved how they couldn’t stay away from each other, they needed each other long before they could admit it to themselves. This is a college romance which I never read but I love Hazes writing so I figured I’d give it a shot and I’m so glad I did!

Hot, quick read

I'm new to omegaverse. I enjoyed this story and the connection between the characters. I only wish it were in first person pov. I don't feel as close to the story when it's being told to me, which can't be helped in third person.

spicy but slow build at the same time

This book was spicy from very early on so you wouldn’t expect it but the relationship is a slow build. I spend so much of this book frustrated at where the characters were but of course it ends up with the payoff.
