LOLL this book was something else. If you want a dark, short and smutty story with a ridiculous plot then this is the book for you. The hero is completely crazy and the heroine's IQ might be in the single digits but it was such a crazy read that it was entertaining.
If I never hear the word 'doll' in my life again...that would be ok.

(Descriptions found at end of my review)
Should I read in order? This is the first in Smith’s Her Stalker series.
Basic plot: Against her better judgment, Blaire attends a Halloween party and comes face to face with her stalker.
Give this a try if you want: - contemporary romance – Texas setting (college?) - dark romance elements – you should be okay with dubious consent and non consensual acts - stalker hero - shorter novel - ravishment fantasy - higher steam – 6ish scenes that include primal play, knife play, praise, degradation (with some caretaking), and exhibitionism
Ages: - I don’t think they’re mentioned
First line: Melanie was looking at me with pleading eyes, her blue-gray eyes almost enough to make me cave.
My thoughts: “Not so fast, doll.” I didn’t have time to scream. A hand clamped over my mouth, and the man’s arm snagged around my waist, yanking my body back against his.
I wasn’t expecting too much from this novel – I just wanted some nice stalker ravishment fantasy 😆 . But I was a bit disappointed here. Something that can bother me is the overuse of italics. And once I saw it here I couldn’t unsee it. I also wasn’t a big fan of the random exhibitionism scenes. I’ll admit that is one of my least favorite kinks, but sometimes I can like it.
I dunno, it was okay. Like it was a smutty 79 pages that basically delivered what it said it would, so if you’re looking for a naughty, high steam Halloween read, this might fit the bill!

Content warnings: These should be taken as a minimum of what to expect. It’s very possible I have missed some.
Locations of kisses/intimate scenes, safe sex aspects, consent, pregnancy/child in the story: Safe sex: No Hows the consent? If you want consent in your novels, I’d bypass this one Pregnancy/children in story? (Please note this is the best to my memory/note taking. If you see something I missed please feel free to message!) Full break down on what my ratings above mean here: Overall: How I felt about it everything considered! Readability: How ‘readable’ was the book? Did I fly through it? Did I have to tell myself to pick it back up repeatedly? Were any passages confusing? (I will probably score like (1) is literally unreadable due to formatting/typing errors, etc (2) There were lots of errors that made it difficult to read OR It was extremely confusing and I had to reread passages to make sense of it OR I disliked it so much I had to bribe myself to keep reading (3) I didn’t really want to keep reading and would have preferred to abandon the read and start something else OR some minor continuity issues/confusion (4) I liked it fine, maybe a minor error or 2. I was happy to pick it up when I had time. (5) I never wanted to put this down. I thought about it when I wasn’t reading it. I hid in the bathroom from my kids to read. I threw inappropriate food at my children for dinner so I could read instead.) Feels: Totally subjective to each person but did the book give me any tingles? Any butterflies? Did it rip my heart out (in a good way?) Emotional depth: How well do I feel I know the characters at the end? How much did I feel their emotions throughout the story? Sexual tension: Again, subjective, but how strong was the wanting and longing to me between the characters? A book might have strong sexual tension without a single touch. Romance: Was there romance? Did romantic things happen? This can be actions/words/thoughts of the characters and again is subjective. Sensuality: This is how the intimate scenes are written. Kisses and sexual scenes – how sensual were they? Were they on the mechanical side? Was there emotional pull tied in? Were the details explicit or flowery? These are subjective but generally (1) too short to get a good judgement (2) not all what I'm looking for - very vague or flowery prose (3) either not explicit enough or not enough emotional pull (too mechanical/physically descriptive without the emotions) (4) what I love in a scene (5) absolute perfection - perfect balance of emotional longing and explicit descriptions Sex Scene Length: How long the bedroom scenes are (generally (1) is 1-3 sentences (2) is a few paragraphs to a page-ish (3) is about average, a few pages (4) more well developed scenes, quite a few pages with descriptions (4) the majority of the book takes place in the bedroom. This is always hard to tell for me on audio! Steam Scale: Generally, each flame is a scene. If scenes are super close together I sometimes combine them. If a scene is super short or so vague I don’t know what’s happening, I don’t count it. There’s some levels of grey but generally the number of flames is how many sex scenes there are (I max out at 5 so I’ll put a + after if there’s more than that)
I'm going to start labeling certain books I don't typically read as ...
Outside My Comfort Zone!
It's Halloween and the heroine is convinced to attend a bonfire with her roommate. She gets ditched and strays too far from the party when she encounters someone that admits to have been watching her from afar for many weeks. This is a very dark, twisted and naughty tale by a new to me author. Am I going to read Book 2—maybe, maybe not?!
It was good but I don’t rly think I’m into the whole they can watch as I fuck you so they know who you belong to thing but besides that I loved. I do wish we got at least one chapter of his pov
Made it 20 pages before giving up. I didn't care for the characters or the writing style. "Canyon Lake" was written/mention 5 times within the 1st couple of pages and 9 times total in just the first chapter. A bit excessive don't ya think...
Some triggers are as follows... Dubious consent, exhibitionism, praise kink, Degradation, name calling, Stalking, Kidnapping, Group sex WITHOUT sharing, pregnancy, bare back, and the mafia.
This book, for me, falls under fiction, erotica, romance, alpha male, stalker romance, dark romance.
Spoilers.
This one was short, I read it in like two hours. But it was so good, don't let it being short keep you from reading this one.
The triggers could be a bit much for some, but I think the author handles them well.
The story is about Blaire, a college student, and really, how her friends push her to do things she does not feel comfortable with. She goes to a Halloween party, that her friends promised her, they would never leave her side. But, like all bad friends, they do.
Blaire, is left alone in her emo/scene Halloween outfit in the dark. This is where we meet her stalker, Striker. He kidnaps her, takes her into the woods, and plays with her. Blaire though, ends up enjoying the chase, and plays with Striker in return.
Striker was raised by the guy he works for, and I would love to hear both of their backstories.
All the triggers for me fall under BDSM and most things that I enjoy in that community. If you enjoy the idea of being kidnapped, having to run for your life, and having sex with a sexy stalker then this book is for you.
I absolutely enjoyed this Halloween story. I liked Blaire from the start, and I disliked her friends from the start. I also liked Striker from the start. I liked that he cared a lot about Blaire, that he wanted her to still go to school, and that he helped her open up about her wants and needs sexually.
I also liked that they fucked a lot, and Striker made her cut first and multiple times before he came. Also, who doesn't like the idea of fucking while running from the cops? I was just waiting for them to fuck in a cemetery. ;)

Short, kinky halloween read. The h is grabbed from a halloween party and forced to run as part of a game while the H chases her down, which she ends up loving.
This book was amazing. I loved it from the first page. I couldn't put it down at all, I needed to know how it would go.
The trust he had in her, and making sure everyone knew she could be trusted was everything. He knew she was it for him, and he knew he was never going to let her go.
The Vegas wedding was the perfect way for them to tie to the knot. It just suited them. I hope down the road we hear about them again, I would love to read about their lives as a family 💜

This is a quick little read if you're looking for something spicy with a bit of primal play, degradation and exhibitionism. Blaire doesn't like to go out for Halloween, as she thinks bad things happen on that night. Well, of course, something bad does happens...but, she likes it. She actually likes everything that Striker has to offer. There's not much of a story, but it is full of insta-love and an abundance of the the endearment 'Doll'. {That was actually the highlight of the story for me...lol!}
Nickname: Doll
“I want you to run, Blaire. I love the thrill of the chase.”
“Blaire,” he whispered in a warning. “Please,” I blurted. I was aching for him. I didn’t know how it was possible. I was putting it down to me being as crazy as the rest of my unstable family. “Please touch me,” I begged him. “Just touch you?” he asked, a teasing note in his voice. “I’m already touching you, doll.”
“It means you’re mine, doll. We play games like this whenever I - or you - feel like it. I please your sexy, little body, and you please me by being my obedient, good girl.”
This man had awakened a darker side to my sexuality, made me crave something twisted - something I should be afraid to want. But I wanted all of that dark, scary shit. And I wanted it with him - only with him. I wanted this man to corrupt me - to destroy my soul. I wanted him to fuck me up so good that I didn’t know a world outside of him.
“It means you’re mine, doll. We play games like this whenever I - or you - feel like it. I please your sexy, little body, and you please me by being my obedient, good girl.”
This dark little novella was perfection. This spooky and smutty Halloween story will get you in the mood for sure. Blaire is always cautious on Halloween. She knows the crazies come out on that day so she usually stays in. Her friends convince her to go out and of course the one time she goes out Halloween she meets a crazy. At first she is beyond scared when she is kidnapped by a mysterious guy but that fear soon changes to something else when they play a game of chase. This story was extreme, sexy, fast paced, and had the perfect creepy vibes. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a deranged criminal hero who is not afraid to admit how crazy he is for his girl and a heroine that learns she has an insatiable dark side.
2.5 stars. I knew this was going to be a spicy short story going in, but I was disappointed that I felt no actual connection between the characters. The dialogue was not my cup of tea and everything moved very swiftly without really connecting. - The FMC is forced to go to a Halloween party, gets separated from her friends even though they promised not to let that happen again… a stranger grabs her and drags her into the woods and the spice ensues, then more spice and more spice and then marriage and a baby…. All without showing any actual connection besides enjoying the smexy times… so yeah, not the best short story for me.
- He calls her ‘doll’ - Chasing in the woods - He keeps mentioning his ‘victims’ - Dubcon - Exhibitionism - Degrading/name-calling - Stalker - Kidnapping - Group $ex WITHOUT sharing
Blair isn’t a fan of Halloween—she hates dressing up, hates parties, and would much rather stay tucked safely inside her dorm. But when her friends finally convince her to go to a lakeside Halloween party, things quickly take a dark turn. As the night unfolds, Blair can’t shake the feeling that someone is watching her—and she’s right. She’s soon abducted and dragged into the woods by her stalker.
From that point on, the story shifts heavily toward explicit content, losing much of the suspense and character development. While the premise had potential for a chilling thriller, the execution leaned more into smut than story.
This was a short story but omg, I could've read about Striker and Blair for hours. Striker has been stalking Blair since he first saw her. On Halloween he's decided to make himself known. Of course, he's sexy as hell so she doesn't mind!
I loved how the author packed in so much in these few pages that I was able to adore all the characters. Even the sex scenes were original and different and seriously HOT! I really want more Striker!! 💜💜
I haven't read anything by this author before but if this book is a sign of how she writes, well, sign me up to read many more!
The spice was delicious, the story was decent, the super fast pace- not so much. I wouldn’t have minded the fast pace so much if at the beginning of each chapter it said 1 week later or month later. Instead it dove right in and you just had to guess. And I wish it would have dove into more on Strikers stalking. Blair also kinda blew my mind, one minute she terrified and the next minute she like I’m practically in love with this guy all while in the woods during their first meeting. The only good thing was the spice- cnc, praise, degradation was all 🥵.
"An Unexpected Halloween" by T.O. Smith is a delightful and charming Halloween-themed novella that takes readers on a journey filled with magic and surprises. The story's setting and characters capture the spirit of the holiday and create a whimsical atmosphere that is perfect for Halloween enthusiasts. While the book provides an enjoyable and magical experience, a bit more depth in character development and plot complexity could have taken it to the next level. Nonetheless, it's a great choice for a cozy and enchanting Halloween read.
My first three star rated read and a book I will never touch again. I’m so disappointed, I thought it was going to be a good Halloween read and it had nothing to do with Halloween. They got to a party for two seconds and that’s what made considered a Halloween read? There could have been way more of a story to it and way more pages to actually make it the length of a book. I might give another one of her books a try in the future but, I’m not sure. The spice was good and it fast paced, just wasn’t really feeling the characters. Definitely won’t be reading book two.
An Unexpected Halloween by T.O. Smith is a super spicy novella that’s perfect for Halloween! The spice is off the charts, but as expected, the plot is pretty thin. Everything wrapped up way too quickly for my liking—they meet, and suddenly it’s happily ever after with no real build-up. It took me out of the story a bit. That said, I don’t read these for the plot, and I’d still recommend it as a quick, steamy read, just don’t expect a plot that makes much sense!
This is a fast moving Halloween stalker Novella. blaire never goes out on Halloween as she thinks nothing good comes of it, her friends drag her to a Halloween party and it forever changes her life. There was a a lot of spice in a short amount of time, this is for the girls who want more smut than plot as it moves really fast. Overall a great spooky season read.
