Beyond the Impossible #2

The Splinter Alliance: An epic science fiction saga

The search to unravel the secrets of the Splinter Alliance has begun. Kara Syung has joined an unlikely group of war-ravaged soldiers from another universe plus terrorists from Hokkaido to find the mysterious Inventor, whose greatest creation threatens to unravel the fabric of time and space.
For Kara, an engineer and once heir to a fortune, the dangerous journey continues a commitment she made to her late brother. However, she is far beyond her element, struggling to prove her value to the crew. Fortunately, she has Ham Cortez, the mission leader, and Cando, a soldier of the Twenty Talons, on her side. She will need them along with her engineering prowess if she is to survive the journey’s first stop.
They believe Artemis Station, once the home of the Inventor, has been abandoned. Yet the truth lies in An enemy no one saw coming; survival beneath a dead world; a traitor in their midst.
Do Kara and her team have the resilience - and belief in each other - to overcome disaster in this suspense-filled second book of the Beyond the Impossible series?

About the author

Frank Kennedy

Frank Kennedy has been writing all his life (the boy who was penning crazy space stories that had the other kids giggling), and now he's taking charge of his career. He is a former journalist (back when people read the news on actual paper), and now teaching English to middle-schoolers (cue the giggling). His work spans all manner of genres, but he is particularly fond of science fiction / alternate history / and bizarre mashups. Expect darkness, tension, and the twists and turns that make great drama. He was that 14-year-old kid who couldn't believe what he was seeing when the Imperial Star Destroyer chased the rebel blockade runner over Tatooine in May 1977, and became lost in awe when the mothership appeared over Devil's Monument that same year.

This book is an incredibly awesome continuation of book 1. The characters are believable and interesting, the world (well, ship) building is fantastic, and it's quite a page turner! I don't even know what to say without giving away the entire ending! It's so good, you just have to read it.

This was totally not what I was expected after the way book 1 ended - but was an absolute fitting continuation. A jump forward into another aspect of multiverse spanning conflict that constantly keeps you guessing. Dangerous and action packed puzzle that just keeps building. Kennedy has chosen a very unique POV to write this book from that adds to the slight disorientation and anticipation of what is coming. I was expecting a big reveal and twist at the end - but nothing like what actually happened. Well worth the ride and a second read through too because there is just so much in the details that only starts to become clear later on.

This is book 2 in the Beyond the Impossible book and yeah, impossible will mess with your head. Read this series in order because there is a lot of back story you need from book 1 to truly appreciate book 2.

good action, PG-13

Some swearing (and some fake swear words), homosexual sex scenes.
Interesting premises (time travel, modified genetics, space corps trained for battle, intergalactic family feuds). 1st 2 books were a good read.

I received a copy of this book from the author.

In my honest opinion this book is a thoroughly good read with many twists and turns. I will say that it took me a couple of chapters to really get into the story but when I did there was no stopping to do anything else.

This story follows on from “Simmering Seas” and begins with excerpts from an interview 72 years later in standard year 5438.

Life for the girls will never be the same and both will find an inner strength they never knew they had.

They meet members of opposing factions, none of whom seem to be able to tell the truth and two immortals. The girls have to decide who to believe and trust while very far from safety and somewhere to call home.

I would suggest that to fully understand this story, you read “Simmering Seas” first. It too, is a good read so you won’t regret buying both books.
