How Not to Get into Heaven: Berkeley Mews Comics

Rate this book
If you're looking for an easy way to get into heaven, by all means do NOT read this hilarious, subversively clever, comic-filled book! The second collection of Berkeley Mews comics by Ben Zaehringer, this book satirizes many of the pop cultural institutions familiar to children of the '80s and '90s, providing a visually delightful and comically poignant send-up of modern life.

Filled with flawed views of Santa Claus, hilarious takedowns of Disney movie tropes, and dozens of comics that landed on the front page of Reddit, How Not to Get into Heaven is an uplifting read for comics fans with a slightly twisted sense of humor.

A bit mild overall, but enough of these strips got their LOL on. Zaehringer revisits a lot of the same stuff from the first collection: pop culture references to superheroes and Disney films, robots, vampires, Santa Claus, and God in His Heaven. An amusing trifle.

These are funny, little Bizarro comics. The drawings were simple like Ziggy. And, like Ziggy, they had that wry, lovable humor. Most of them were a hoot. Of course, some were a little weird and some I just didn’t get. But the pictures were wonderful. I do love these kinds of comics.
A man makes a prayer and hope they’ll hear his call, but then Heaven is experiencing a high call volume. What a riot! Loved the literal irony!

Just loved it!

Some people will love this, so give it a chance. I'm just not one of those people. This type of humor makes me sad because I "take things too seriously" even when I know they're not meant to be taken that way.

Overall, this is a great collection of comics. I didn't get a few of them, despite reflecting earnestly. I shared several with family members who appreciated them as well.
