Police Detective Hannah Yassick watched her entire life flip upside down in the last few months. Now she has a half-sister she never knew, and a mother who is a stranger. Working undercover is way better than wallowing at home. She has no idea who she is, so why not be someone else entirely? Space and time might be what Hannah is looking for, but life never gives her what she wants.
This Chevalier team member walked away from who he was years ago. Joining the army gained Badger a name and the family he was denied. Being part of the team now means he’s surrounded by people who care about him. But they have no idea who he really is, and they can never find out.
When Badger is tasked with protecting Hannah the worst parts of their pasts come calling. The two must fight through their differences to realize they understand each other on a level no one else ever will. It’s a perfect match…if they can stay alive long enough to get to their happily ever after.

I’m loving the rapid real ease format because no way could I wait much longer for what’s sure to be a heck of a finish to this incredible series. I only dread the book hangover I’m sure to have. I enjoyed this installment so much, loved the characters and how well everything ties from previous books to this. Can’t wait for Judah (and please don’t kill Isaac! I’m holding out hope for him to get at least a novella later!)
It was good to finally discover Badger's backstory (and Hannah's backstory) but I was a little annoyed with the way Badger's backstory was slightly overemphasised. For goodness sake, if a man was Delta Force he has earned creds. This is fast-paced and action-packed and it involves a lot of team support; that's great. I liked the romance storyline, too.
3.5 Rating. This 4th installment of the Chevalier Protection Specialists series continues the ongoing stories of the team. Badger takes center stage in this book and romance develops between him and Hannah, Nora’s half-sister and the policewoman who was introduced in a prior book.
Though I enjoyed Badger and Hannah’s story, I found it confusing in several places, as if a final edit hadn’t been done before publication. For example: Eas and Karina had just reconnected in the last book, Last Man to Survive, but at the beginning of this book, “Eas and his former flame, Karina, an operative herself, had settled in Last Chance County years ago.” Impossible and makes no sense. And at the end of the last book, Karina had been hospitalized for severe knife injuries, but at the beginning of this book, “Karina was in town, teaching a couple of back-to-back workout classes.” So, not only had she healed in a short couple weeks, she found a job and was teaching physically demanding classes. There were other places where sentences were confusing or awkward. Hence, the 3.5 rating.
Despite the shortcomings, however, I enjoyed the story enough to continue with the next installment, Last Line of Defense. As with all the books of this series, I have appreciated the author’s understated introduction of Christian elements and her ability to keep a military-action-romance thread running in her clean and exciting stories.
Another really good story with good characters and great action. This book still needs some more editing. For the most part it was a little better, although I'm pretty sure Hannah's hair color changed in it. Most of the time she was blonde but one time it talked about her dark hair. Also I feel like Badger spoke to something about Hannah once and I thought he'd have a similar talk with his team but he never did, but it sounded like somehow they suddenly knew anyways and I feel like his issues still needed more resolution. Also, I understand little recaps from previous books in the series, especially if someone didn't read them all or in order. However, it's not necessary to recap earlier parts of the same book- I just read it and it felt weird. I still want to read the last book, especially since I bought them all as a bundle. I'm not sure I would pay the money if I hadn't already, though.
The book had a good story line overall, but seemed disjointed and not flowing in several places. There were too many places where things didn't seem to come together , make sense, or flow. I've read the previous books in this series and it seems like the first one was the best and flowed well and I was excited to read the next ones in the series; but I felt like they were rushed. Lot of good story lines or paths to take in each, but it seemed like the author couldn't make up her mind which path/story line to go with and tried to include them all. Overall, I liked the books about the Chevelier group, but I think the story line could have been flushed out more.
The story line was ok. It kept me interested for the most part but the author needs an editor very badly or she needs to fire her current one.
Firstly, too much inner monologue. Page after page and most of it is repeating what the other person thought on the previous pages.
Secondly, the author uses the word "wince" no less than 40 times in the book. It happened so often I finally did a word search. In 2 of the chapters alone, the author used it 3-4 times per chapter.
I am so enjoying her ability to establish healthy relationships with so.many people who are so beautifully dysfunctional. But find the value of being there for one another and taking their talents and using them to rescue and save. Zander is everyone's dreamleader. Hannah's strength is found in weakness and her hero comes to find and love her as he should.
I'm loving this series by Lisa Phillips. I would like it even better if the faith element didn't seem practically token. But this series is clean, filled with interesting and varied characters, and keeps me guessing. If you're looking for a page-turning adventure with a hero and heroine who are fighting their way through their pasts to achieve goals and find love, then this may be a good book to try.
It keeps you turning the pages waiting to see what will happen next. Great story very suspenseful. Trying to figure out why things are happy and who is behind it. I figured out some of the answers but I'm sure the next book in the series will give you more answers and questions
This has been such a wonderful book of action, danger, and suspense. The Chevalier team is hired to protect Detective Hannah Yassick who is working undercover. Badger is ready to lead the protection detail. These two are already attracted to each other. What will happen when they are thrown together in all the dangerous events that occur?
Last Man to Survive is a fabulous read and is a page turner. Badger is tasked with protecting Hannah, a police detective who is working undercover. Lisa added some shocking twists about Hannah's biological family in this novel.
I love reading Lisa Phillips books. They draw you into the story immediately and hold you captive. Thank you for interesting, clean books that are always a joy to read.
Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! Or in this case, assassins, and criminals, and cartels, oh my! Hang on for a wild ride as Badger and Hannah find love in the midst of a whole lot of action and adventure!
Pain and promise, peer pressure assumed, but not required. Keep on keeping on, and look forward not back. The past is the past and other’s opinions aren’t usually so…
Wow! If you like action packed stories you can't put down, this is it!
Wow! If you like action packed stories you can't put down, this is it! Jaw dropping plot twists that are so woven in nothing feels out of place or just added for no reason. Another great book by Ms Phillips!
I really enjoyed this last book of this series. Could read the whole series again. I know that you will enjoy it as much as I have. I recommend it to anyone to read.
I loved this book by Lisa Phillips. I also loved the characters. I can’t wait for the next book in this series. I would recommend this book and series.
I am enjoying this series a lot but not this book. I don’t care for Hannah and don’t like Badger with her. His personality changed when she was introduced.
Badger & Hannah must forgive themselves to move forward. Hannah finds family in the Chevalier team. She also finds who her biological parents and siblings are.
This was another thrilling installment in this series that I couldn’t put down. The webs are woven tighter and we get more and more information that just makes things crazier. While the romantic subplot is stand-alone-ish, this series is definitely best consumed in order. This is a Christian romantic suspense that is heavy on the danger and action. I’m totally caught up in it and I have no clue how things are going to end.
