The third book in a brand new Mountain Man adventure series from D.M. Haggard!
Danger is nothing new for mountain man Wilder Hawk, and he faces his share of it on his journey to the Pacific Ocean. What he doesn’t expect is danger from those who loathe him for being half Apache and are willing to kill him for it.
Forced to defend himself from an Indian-hating storekeeper who tries to back-shoot him, Wilder becomes a fugitive on his trek to the Great Water. Along the way there and back home, he tangles with vicious scalp hunters and sojourns with various tribes, all of whom have lessons for a half-breed seeking his place in a rapidly changing West. Wilder takes a Navajo wife, Olathe, whose beauty is matched by her intelligence. But his visions of happy homecoming are dashed when he and Olathe reach the Apaches’ winter camp and find it deserted amid signs of a violent attack. The U.S. Army has taken Wilder’s tribe captive, marching them to a barren region far from their homeland. Now Wilder must find a way to rescue his people… if he can.
D. M. Haggard, aka D. M. Horridge, was born in Texas, raised on cactus, dust, and a strong family. When I was very young, I would visit my uncle's farm in San Antonio and work side by side with my seven cousins baling hay, swimming in a round cow trough, and hunting rattlesnakes. I've hunted and fished all over the United States, and have worked like a trojan on my own ranch in Texas. I've written short stories and professional articles for a variety of marketing and professional magazines, but only recently started writing western adventure stories. I like learning about the real characters of western history and use them in a fictional way. I feel like I am preserving their memory and the heritage they left for us over time. I have been blessed with a wonderful wife of 55 years, two terrific children, and a million friends. I try to leave a message in every book that says to the reader, "we are all part of this world of ours and we need to work together to keep it from falling apart." My family is the most important part of my life. I have also been blessed with four fabulous grandchildren and two spouses of our children who have brought a wonderful depth to our family and extended family. One of my favorite subjects is the Texas Rangers, a group of tough, honorable, and law-abiding men and women. Only recently I have begun a series of children's books named "The Amazing Adventures of Two Boys." They represent many of the stories my father told to my brother and me as children. Always exciting, but not frightening, they give me great pleasure to write and publish on Amazon under my father's name, Don Horridge, and my name D. M. Horridge. All of the proceeds from these children's books are donated to children's ministries throughout the world. Thanks for listening.
Wilder Hawk pulls no punches in his determination to bring peace and justice to those wrong doers!
Most definitely five stars worthy as this compelling series of realistically old American western folklore extravaganzas will definitely maintain anyone's undivided attention from beginning to end! Hawk is determined to see the Pacific Ocean, and his ongoing exploits will appease your innermost expectations from beginning to end! Hawk even finds himself in love with an Indian maiden! Once again, this outstanding Author's ongoing storylines successfully leads his readers along the deadly trails of ongoing gunfighting adventures! Hawk pulls no punches in his descriptive renditions of unending gunfighting excursions! Too, the character selections could not have been any better portrayed, and their respective assignments will appease anyone's desired expectations from beginning to end! Most definitely recommend this compassionately motivated, and definitely heartwarming, series of compelling western excitement! No slow downs in this compassionately motivated series of unending adventures, as Hawk returns to find his family and friends have been relocated by the Army! His ire is raised and no one is safe from his vengeance!!!😃
As a great great grandson of an Indian agent who passed down stories of the crimes committed against the different Indian tribes I am familiar with what really happened.
Yet another outstanding story in the continuing saga of Wilder Hawk. You've got to read this exciting ongoing book with action and adventure on every page. I can't recommend it enough.
