This is a short story from the D'Vaire series. The MCs are Skeleton Lord Eduard Daray and the new Imperator of the Demons, Hexaniys Xattanas. Sent out to find a new realm as the Demon realm is dying, Hex is a servant of the cruel and sadistic Demon ruler. Sent to the human realm, he meets his fated love, Eduard. Before he is forced back to the Demon realm, Hex makes a wish that the Demon leader will be moved by Fate to allow their mating. In the short time they were gone, a rebellion occurred in the demonic plane, killing most of the oldest Demons as well as the king. Hex becomes the new ruler. Of 37 Demons. He returns to the human realm and with the help of the Council and the D'Vaires, becomes the newest species in the Council. It's a quick, fun read. Very enjoyable.
In this story we get to see an Imperion and a Skeleton Lord find out they are mates! I love all the traditions that the D’Vaires have adopted. A great addition to the series. Highly recommended
Rating: 3.5 stars While I enjoyed this latest installment in the D’Vaire series, it suffered from being too short. I really didn’t feel we got enough of Hex’s backstory and I really wanted to know more about the demon realm. I did like Eduard’s interaction with Hex and I always love visiting the Daray household. I just wish the story had been longer.
