Attempting to mend a broken heart by indulging in an affair with a rakehell would not be the wisest course of action for a young lady of the ton. But when Miss Lily Godwin has a chance encounter with the mischievous Lord Nash at a Yuletide house party, she is sorely tempted to throw all dictates of decorum out the window. After all, it’s Christmas.
Author’s Note to Readers: An Improper Christmas is Book 3 in the loosely linked, Improper Liaisons Novella series. It can also be read as a stand-alone. This title also appeared in the limited edition Hot Winter Nights box set released in 2017.
Length: Short novella Sensuality level: Hot. This erotic Regency romance contains frequent, sizzling hot love-making scenes and sexual language.
Amy Rose Bennett is an award-winning Australian author who has a passion for penning emotion-packed historical romances and more recently, historical rom-coms with a dash of fantasy. A former speech pathologist, Amy is happily married to her very own romantic hero and has two lovely, exceedingly accomplished adult daughters. When she’s not creating stories, Amy loves to cook up a storm in the kitchen, lose herself in a good book, and when she can afford it, travel to all the places she writes about.
After enjoying the first book (An improper proposition) of this series very much, I was looking forward to reading this book. I found the story fluent written, it’s written in both POV’s. You don’t have to read the previous books to read this story. I liked both characters and the sex scenes were steamy and hot. I had no problems with that. However, I had a little ‘problem’ with Lily’s situation/decision in the beginning. For me personal, it didn’t feel right.
But if you don’t mind that and if you are searching for a quick, steamy read. Than this is the story for you.
An Improper Christmas by Amy Rose Bennett was a quick (under 2 hours) & rather steamy Regency romance novella. FMC/young Miss Godwin suddenly leaves the country Christmas house party she is attending upon discovering her selfish betrothed in a very compromising position with another man’s wife. A guest and known rake, MMC/Lord Nash is leaving in his carriage at the same time that Miss Godwin is attempting to saddle a horse. Because of the distance from town and the worsening weather conditions, Miss Godwin decides to accept Lord Nash’s offer to share his carriage, unchaperoned. She only wants to distance herself from the untrustworthy cad. But in the presence of Lord Nash, she discovers much more.
I felt Miss Godwin deserved much better than her faithless ex-fiancé and that despairing match. So even though Lord Nash’s reputation was questionable, I found myself hoping he might be the man for Miss Godwin. Sometimes reformed rakes make the most passionate and devoted of husbands - at least in fiction. An Improper Christmas all happens within 2 weeks and Miss Godwin is intimate with Lord Nash almost immediately. I found it fairly believable considering the situation but some readers won’t approve and should avoid this novella. I liked that the FMC found a man who appreciated her boldness and curiosity, and that she got her HEA. I rated An Improper Christmas 4**** because I enjoyed it, but due to its brevity I’m not sure how long I actually will remember it. It was a fun & sexy, quick read.
Readers take note, therefore, that An Improper Christmas is not a Clean Regency romance. Profanity and steamy sexual situations between the 2 main characters occurs (several) times within this short story. Young readers and those who would be offended should look elsewhere.
Amy Rose Bennett has written another great story. Be prepared for a steamy romance that will hold you captive until the end. Minerva and Tristan have known each other a long time. In fact she had been married to his best friend who had perished over two years ago. Always ready to be there for her, Tristan was surprised when she made an early call and asked to speak to him. Tristan had always hidden feelings for her and she had been attracted to him too. After she revealed the reason for her call, it seemed the air begin to sizzle between them. A slow build to a romance that would ignite them as if they were meant for each other. But were they? Why did Tristan stay away when all Minerva wanted was to see him? Do not miss this story that will melt your heart as you turn the last page. This was part of the Seduced Under the Mistletoe anthology.
A quick read, but complete steamy story. Miss Lily Godwin has been betrayed by her betrothed and wants, no needs, to leave the house party her Aunt and Uncle have brought her to. Joshua Sheridan, Lord Nash just wants to leave the party and spend a quiet Christmas at home. Heading in the same direction, why not go together? Little do they know they are heading to love. Part of a series but can be read as a standalone
Another hot romance. Feisty heroine, she dumps her dreadful fiancé after she catches him betraying her on Christmas Eve no less. However, Christmas Cupid sends her a surprising gift.
An Improper Christmas, by Amy Rose Bennett, was available at booksellers in 2017. This novella is book 3 in the Improper Liaisons series. It's presented as improper and it is. There's use of words and terms that no gentleman should ever say in front of a lady. Our heroine, Miss Lily Godwin, is only 1 romp with her fiancée into the sex game. Joshua Sheridan, Lord Nash, may be a worn out rake, handsome too, but he's in love so darn quick. Instant attraction is really more instant lust. They follow through on the lust, believable on his part, very quickly. She's a little too bold to just have jilted her fiancée, she thought she loved him but hasn't 1 conflicted feeling. While they both were likeable enough I just couldn't bring myself to care about their HEA. All in all, they deserve each other.
With Improper Christmas you'll get hot, quick sex with lots of dirty talk. Not really my thing but it was mild and I certainly was not offended. I received this e-book free from Amazon & it's my first time with Ms Bennett's work. I'd gladly read another, she has a way with (curse) words.
It's neither bad nor was it great. It's filled with erotica scenes and from start to finish, in my opinion, it's just that. She left her cheating betrothed and stumbled into another man to have sex with... I don't know what to say more. So let's just left it at that. I even forgot the characters' names as I wrote this review after reading this book. Maybe it's a novella but I have read other novellas with exciting plots and this is just.. deserves 3 stars.
This Lily and Joshua's story and what a delightful story it is. I loved these two characters with their willingness to explore and learn about each other as they fell in love. It is nicely written and I was quite happy to read it in one sitting. I read an ebook version and this is my voluntary review of it.
Once again an author confuses orgasm with everlasting love. Uh,no. Or is that ugh. Moreover the author does not have a deft hand with the sex scenes either. Give this a pass. Sorry, in a limited lifetime, many other authors do better.
An Improper Christmas, Book 3 of the Improper Liaisons series, was about Miss Lily Godwin, goddaughter to the Marchioness of Solsbury, and Lord Joshua Sheridan, Viscount Nash. While attending a Christmas house party, Lily caught her betrothed, Lord Humphrey Barcroft, Baron Hardwick, in the gardens wrapped in the arms of a married woman. Heartbroken, Lily tried to convince her aunt that she should break off her engagement to the man, but her aunt and guardian, Lady Dunmere, was adamant that she would, indeed, marry him whether she liked it or not. Determined to not be pushed into it, Lily planned to leave the house party and not look back. Joshua, bored with the house party...and life in general...decided it was time for him to return home. As he waited in the stables for his carriage to be readied, he encountered the delectable Lily, who seemed determined to ride a horse to London in the midst of a snowstorm. Concerned for her safety, Joshua offered to give her a ride to his home not far away and then loan her an unmarked carriage and a maid to see her through the rest of her journey. While traveling to his home, Lily and Joshua began a light flirtation that, once they arrived at his place, continued on into a short affair that they both found enjoyable. The following morning as they breakfasted together, Lily knew she would be leaving not long later. Several things happened that morning, but in the end, Lily left and went to her godmother's home, leaving Joshua behind. This book had a lot of emotions crammed into a short space of time. There was humor, angst, drama, passion, heartache, betrayal, and love. The storyline was well-written and, though short, kept the reader glued to the pages. It was definitely worthy of a five-star rating and to be added to the Keeper for the Shelves collection.
Miss Lily Goodwin, lost her parents at the young age of 10. She was taken in by an Uncle and Aunt, Lord Dunmere. She has been told repeatedly that she is the poor relative. Neither her Aunt Harriet or her Uncle ever showed her any love. They did their duty by giving her a place to live, clothes and now have found her a suitable man to wed. Her Fiance is Lord Hardwick, Humphrey. She was sure he loved her at least liked cared for her till he goes missing at a party. While searching for Humphrey she runs into Lord Nash, one of the most notorious rakes of the ton. As they both excuse the other and go there own why she can't help but notice how handsome and nice he is. She finds Humphrey having sexual congress with other women in the conservatory. Just the night before he had taken her maidenhead and left her mad when she denied him more. She is shocked and upset even more so when her aunt tells her to get over it and that she forbids her to end the engagement ! Now she wonders if it is her dowry he wants and not her. She plans to run away to her Godmother, Aunt Winnie. The best laid plans don't always work out and plans made in haste usually don't. Due to the cold weather, and snow she ends up sharing a carriage with none other then Lord Nash. As they travel to his estate, Chiltern Abbey they talk, he finds out about Humprey and she is hearten to hear him take her side. When the snow gets worst and she ends up spending the night at the Abbey. Lord Nash tells her he can make her forget and does..... This is a very steamy Christmas story, but I loved both Lily and Nash and hope you give it a try. These two have much to give and learn, and the story is well written and hard to put down. Hope you enjoy it too..
This is a new author for me. I "met" her in the Historical Harlots Facebook group and picked up this book because it sounded interesting. Holy Hot Lord! Amy Rose Bennett had my Kindle steaming and I was loving it. She writes very well and isn't afraid of writing about sex. So she's already on my "read more" list.
The plot of this book isn't anything new or special. It is the story of a young lady who catches her fiance' in a rather delicate embrace with a married lady (this was after said cad of a fiance had already stolen her virginity, and we figure out very early in the book that his love-skills need work). Instead of following the edict of her aunt and uncle, with whom she lives, she flees their home, literally catching a ride with a rakehell Lord Joshua Nash. Except that Lord Nash is far more learned in ways of the body and the rest of the book, you shall have to read.
It was luscious, amusing in places, and I LOVE that authors are now starting to write about aunts, godmothers, et al, who side with our debutants. Not only do I love it, these characters add a dimension in the book that normally a reader wouldn't have. In this case, we needed a bit more of the Godmother. She was destined to be wonderful, but we didn't see enough of her to actually say that.
My apology to the author for taking so long to finish this book. Life got in my way and obligations for ARC's, but once I sat down with this, I discovered that it was an easy ready with just the right amount of spice and heat. 4-1/2 stars for this one!
Miss Lily Godwin, the poor(treated) niece relation of Lord and Lady Dunmere, is thrilled about her engagement as this is the end of her second season and has been told no third season will be given. Her aunt and uncle have housed and clothed her as her mother was the youngest child and married a Victor, oh the scandal it was.
Humphrey Barcroft, Lord Hardwick, offered for Miss Lily and feels he is due his rights, but then is a cad.
Joshua Sheridan, Viscount Nash, is a notorious rakehell libertine. Though bored with how his life is currently.
Lily wants love and acceptance. Since her parents death, she has missed the loving family she had. In hope of getting that again, she agrees to Lord Hardwick as proposal. The catches him doing wrong. Now disillusioned she wants out and her aunt tells her to suck it up.
So what's a girl to do? Leave, of course! With it being Christmas day, she accepts help from the last person she thought would offer it. Then finds she may have found who she is meant to be with.
As the two travel, they get to know each other.
What did Hardwick do? Who gave Lily assistance? Does she find her place? Where was Lily going? Come join the Christmas house party and trek in the snow to find out. This story is wickedly scandalous! , fun little adventure with heat and passion.
An Improper Christmas is the third erotic novella in the Improper Liaisons series. Set in Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Cavendish Square, then Mayfair, 1819, from Christmas Eve to Twelfth Night. It covers many grand houses in their Christmas glory.
An Improper Proposition: 5 stars Harry & Bianca An Improper Governess: 4- stars Nicholas & Abigail An Improper Christmas: 5- stars Joshua & Lily
Miss Lily Godwin is betrothed to Humphrey. Unfortunately, Lily sees Humphrey pumping another woman in the Conservatory on Christmas Eve. Lily lost her parents at the tender age of ten, and Lily’s Aunt and Uncle are keen for her to marry and move out, so her Aunt counsels her to put up with the betrayal. Luckily, Lily is of sterner convictions than accepting that and she flees the house party.
Joshua Sheridan, Lord Nash, is bored with life and with this particular house party and so he’s leaving early on Christmas morning. He extends an invitation to a distressed young woman who is trying to leave on a horse in a snowstorm, to share his carriage.
Joshua and Lily’s attraction is immediate, innocent, and passionate. Their sexy times are easy, intense, and fun.
I highly recommend this book. I highly recommend this series.
Recently I have read quite a few 'Regency Romances' that have turned out to be a bit of a disappointment. Fortunately, this novella by Amy Rose Bennett was a pleasant surprise and I really enjoyed it. Although fairly short, it is a novella rather than a full-length novel, it managed to evoke a real feel of the period. Too many of these books are really just modern books with rides in carriages and long dresses, this had a more authentic feel. I liked both of the main characters and enjoyed the overall story. If I had a criticism, it would be that it finished far too soon for my liking. An epilogue isn't always essential, but I would have like to know a little bit more with this one.
Lily and Joshua's story is crammed full of passion, building emotion and love. Despite being a quick read it has a fluid plot with strong characters and the type of chemistry that literally gives you tingles and keeps you fully enticed until the happily ever after. Bennett is fast becoming one of my go to romance authors as she never fails to enrapture, allowing me to indulge in a few hours of passion infused bliss. Loved this festive treat; will definitely be checking out the rest of the series.
I enjoyed Lily and Joshua's story very much. What started out as a one to experience pleasure and two, to get back at her cheating fiance, turned into something else. But it could have just as well ended badly. Not the best way to have revenge on a cheater even in the Victorian era. But, the storyline works anyway. I absolutely loved the confrontation scene between Lily and Humphrey at the masquerade ball. He deserved every bit of humiliation he got but you'll have to read the story to find out what it was. It is worth the read, trust me.
Here is another wonderful story by Amy Rose Bennett. I actually read this story in one day. I usually read novellas in two but this one I really couldn't put down. The only problem was that it was to short. The heroine gets her heart broken but her fiance and then she believes she gets her heart broken again by a rake. If I say any more I would give the story away. I hope you will enjoy reading this book as much as I did.
Had to read in one sitting. Loved the story of Lily and Joshua who left a house party together early on Christmas day in a snow storm. She had been betrayed by her fiancee and he was just bored. She wanted to go to London to her godmother and he was going home. Joshua said he could make her forget her fiancee and she agreed. He provided transportation for her to get to London. She thought he forgot about her and moved on to another lady. Does she go back to her fiancee?/
This is a wonderful love story full of romance and fun. I didn’t want put it down. It ended too soon. I adored the hero, he was so kind and gentle. The Heroine was very sweet and vulnerable and they made the perfect. The story had a lot of sizzling scenes. I have read several of this author’s stories and they are all 5 stars. I highly recommend it. I received this book free from the author and this my honest opinion.
Amy Rose Bennett skillfully crafts a captivating love story in this short and steamy novella featuring Lily and Joshua. The emotional depth in depicting Lily's heartbreak is poignant, evoking a genuine connection with the characters. Bennett excels in portraying Joshua as a supportive hero, adding a delightful touch to this romantic tale. Overall, a beautifully written narrative that leaves a lasting impact.
This is a combo of lightweight HR and erotica that doesn't quite work. The fact that MMC and MFC disappeared from the house party would have destroyed MFC's rep immediately, but I let that go for a while because I liked their chemistry. However, they get physical super fast and it's all just based on attraction. Also wanted MMC to work a bit harder for the HEA.
Bottom line: short, sexy, and diverting for a while, but could have been more.
This was my first book by this author. It’s well-written but the heat level is high, in my opinion. It seemed the graphic sexual scenes comprised the majority of the book. Of course this is just a novella so a full novel might not seem so much so. I enjoyed the story, but, for me, there was too much detail and wording, which I didn’t enjoy.
This is an exceptionally steamy read with the f-bomb attached, but it a beautiful story of a somewhat verbally abused woman who wins her greatest desire when she steps out of her comfort zone and leads life her way. I loved how our Hero changed his ways and how her Aunt helped our heroine. A very good, lovely story
HOT! I just don't like the f-word. I feel like it's cheapening something special and magnificent. Additionally, I don't think the word doormat has another designation other than a mat placed before a doorway during the Regency period. If you know what I mean.
Wow...now that's what I call a very hot, steamy and sexy Christmas story, I loved it!! The main characters, Lily and Joshua, have so much chemistry and I couldn't put the book down until I finished it. Very well done!!
This was an excellent book I enjoyed all three in this series. The characters are exceptional and your books always have lot's of adventure, excitement, drama, and lot's of love. Thank you
I really enjoyed the pace of the story it kept my attention the story was well written. The Author’s description was so defined I could just picture them in my mind eye they were both very good character is very good
