Grahame's aim in writing is to have fun, spread some joy and help the reader question things. He loves the idea of free thinking and challenging tradition while accepting that people will always be different and that's what makes for an interesting world. He has a leaning towards spiritual, inward looking journeys, in terms of who we are, where we come from and where we want to be. He never tires of the bohemian, hippie style, free spirited people and the culture and music that surrounds this movement and quite often he drifts back towards this mindset.
Grahame has published three books, The Lighthouse Keepers, Short Stories and Poems and his most potent work to date - The Best Seat in the Universe.
Grahame hopes that though his writing, that something, just one nugget will inspire some readers or help them improve their lives in some way. He wants the world to be a place that everyone can enjoy, live in peace and love and hopes that one day as a race we can reduce suffering and stop stupid wars or at least stop voting in leaders who want to fight with other countries.
Grahame is married with two adult children and lives on the West Coast of Scotland
I wanted a self discovery book, I never heard of this book but thought I would give it a try and WOW! This books makes you see life in the way life is meant to be seen. Written as a novel which I have never seen in a self discovery book before this was amazing!
If you want to discover who you are read this book. I downloaded this on Amazon Prime but I have already brought the physical copy
This book has changed my life and is a must read. I couldn’t put it down and every chapter left me in such deep thought about my own life. The writer has written this life changing book in such a great way, that it can relate to absolutely everyone on their journey through life. Now every time something in life knocks me down, I just say to myself, get in your campervan and drive forwards and don’t look back. This is the one book that will stay with me forever, as if I ever struggle in any way, I will just pick it back up and read it again.
During Jack’s journey with his Grandad, so many ideas in the book resonated deeply and raised questions as to where my own bus is currently heading. I will look at all big trees and wonder if it’s the one. Destination board set and bus stops defined, let’s start this journey.
Nothing against the books itself, I just don’t like self help books.
“Everything you do is nothing more than a series of bus stops. Try to see your goals in this way. Plan every journey, write your list of stops, before heading toward your first stop. It’s always the hardest one, due to the momentum needed to move forward”
I really like this ideology that life is a bus and to get to somewhere you want to need to takes stops. I actually really liked it but self help books in general are just not my bag so I found it cringe and boring is aspects. How self help books go, this is my fave one that I’ve read.
I will take a lot from this book. I was recommended this book by my best friend. I'll be honest, it isn't my usual kind of book. it's an unusual take on a self-help book. it makes you think about a lot of things. I appreciated the chapters, some long and some short, but they were bursts or information in a way that provoked thinking. it does make you delve into your thought process and how your parents and grandparents may have thought and done things. how your way of the one and doing has an impact on you, but like a pebble in a river, it has a ripple too. one small act of kindness is forever flowing. persevere with this book if you start it and it 'isn't your thing' you just need to get past the beginning and it all fall into place. you will want to know where your yellow bus is, which destinations you go. the Ying and Yang ☯️ really struck a chord!
I ws taken in by all the advertised good reviews, but when you look closely they're almost all done by "people" who've only written one review... Fake accounts? Anyway, the story is appallingly mawkish, to the point of ridiculousness; it's evident it's only a bad cover-up for the mundane life improvement tips in the book. The book cd hv bn redeemed if the writing hd bn imaginative, whimsical, poetic, or just good, but it can be described as mediocre, at best. I did not finish the book it was so bad, (reached chap. 8) and yes, that ws more than enough to form an opinion. Thankfully it ws on Kindle Unlimited; if I'd spent money on it, I wd hv asked for a refund. Avoid!
I’ve been asked to read loads of different self-help books before, but this one really stood out. It didn’t feel like the usual type of book where you’re just being told what to do; instead, everything was put into a story, which made it so much easier to enjoy and actually take in.
I really liked the main character; they felt believable, and I loved the mix of funny moments with the more thoughtful parts about friendship and fitting in. It made me smile, but it also got me thinking, too.
Honestly, it was a nice change from the usual “self-help style” books, and I found myself not wanting to put it down. Definitely one I’d recommend.
Just loved this book . There were many things in it that I could relate to. The hairs on my neck stood up when I read the part when grandad first met Bob & Joan. My favourite incense sticks which I burn daily just happens to be patchouli & just recently in a charity shop I came across a yin & yang pendant which I really felt I had to have. I've worn the same gold cross for the last 20 off years but something made me buy this. I lost my father recently but now realise he's at peace now in the best seat in the universe.
I really struggled with this, as a self proclaimed ‘self help’ book I think it would be enjoyed if you wanted to just read one chapter on a certain subject. However, having this as a story just irritated me as I wanted to finish it but wasn’t invested in the story at ALL. Some parts were nice but it just felt preachy having a character constantly talking about how you should or shouldn’t be - even if it is with good intentions. I got to a point where I had read about 80% and just couldn’t bring myself to finish the last chapters.
A really cute book that my grandma gifted me to read after she read it herself. I like the spin on the general self help book into a fictional adventure. Really insightful and got me thinking and is an easy quick read with shorter chapters which is great if you don’t have a lot of time to read like me.
Leaves you feeling a little magical about life and appreciating the process of ageing and gaining experience. Made it more special that my grandma herself read it and wanted to pass the knowledge on to me like Jack and his grandad. Beautiful story ❤️
This book was recommended to me by a friend. I don’t usually read self help books and the way it was sold to me was a non-fiction account. I quickly established it as allegorical which possibly coloured my reception of what it was. There are some good life lessons in here and it certainly chimes with many of my beliefs about how to live life. Because of the self-improvement teaching I found it hard work to get through although I am sure many others will warm to Jack and his Grandad and how the wisdom of the old man was passed onto his grandson on his deathbed.
A very unusual format for a storyline but I loved it. So much simple easy advice portrayed that leaves us thinking ...yes we relate to that but do we actually put it into practice - we are so busy in our lives to take a few moments out and take note. If we did so, our lives could be so enriched and inadvertently helped so many other people along our way.
I really enjoyed this book. It was a simple tale and yet so 'outside the box'. I read it in a couple of days as it was so enjoyable. It was a visual book, I really feel that I visited every where the author described. And a week later, the book is still in my mind and has given me lots to think about.
Absolutely loved this amazing book! Thank you so much Grahame for sharing this! This book makes you think about your life and how you can change it for the better! No heavy reading as the book is written in the form of a story told by Jack about the amazing journey taken by him and his grandad! Loved every chapter 💖
I loved this having recently lost my father I've struggled with my own grief and that of my young sons, a great read and I'll buy the hard copy for my son as it contains every desire a parent should ever have got a child easily read while subconsciously helping uou find your bus , thank you thank you yank you, peace and love
Before getting to the end of this book I bought one for my three adult children to read. Hopefully it will touch them like it has me. Thank you. Don’t waste your time thinking whether you should or shouldn’t buy this based on reviews. Just go ahead a buy it. Even if it’s not for you you can gift it to someone else. It would never be a waste.
A fascinating and insightful book that I really enjoyed. There is something that everyone can take from this book and use to enrich their own lives. I will be reading it again as there is so much to absorb in one single read. Well done Grahame for a thought provoking story that, via its content, is a book that 'keeps on giving'.
An imaginative journey with a great deal of introspection. I wasn’t sure what to expect but I am glad I made the dive to read into this journey. The lessons within the book help to dissolve yourself of fear and the notion of no self worth. A great read and I would recommend people give this one a chance
A good read which flows well keeping the reader engaged. How each of us perceives the topic will vary, however I felt it was a good analogy of life beyond the mass marketed version we're sold. In short, life life on your terms not anyone else's, and be kind. Always be kind. We're all just 'walking' one another home after all.
Enjoyed it. I like the idea of people getting on and off your bus - some returning, some only there for one journey. A different sort of self help book but it also felt like a “standard” self help book in disguise. I guess that is the point. I felt like I wanted to follow the story but then was hit with a “ahhh I see what you’re doing here” moment.
A friend recommended this book and I am glad she did. It is one of the books I have read. It might sound far-fetched when you read the back of the book although is a book everyone should read. I learned a lot of new things even though I have lived my life like they tell you to in thecstory. Always be true to yourself and question everything.
A thought-provoking story of life, death, nature, life-changing chance encounters, and a timely reminder that we are all in control of our own destinies.
An easy uncomplicated read which allows you to ponder situations in your own life. A wonderful ending, vquite emotional yet so positive and beautiful. A unique way to look at life and particularly your own life, reminding you of the wonderful gift it is.
This book helps you to look at death in a different way, as something good rather than bad that happens. Also helps those still living to understand how they can live a full and wonderful life.
Thank you so much for writing this book. It is so beautiful! I have enjoyed reading it and learnt alot about life. I will look forward to the newsletter which I have also signed up for.
I absolutely loved this book. It was told in such a brilliant way - a way that makes you remember all that was said, it was thought provoking, inspiring, spiritual - and a book that you should read at any time of your life - everyone can learn a lot from it - FANTASTIC!
Really enjoyed this book and it’s made me think about my own life. I like the goal setting it’s a good way to live. I like how everything that was said, about fear and being true to yourself. Great read.
Really enjoyed this feel good book. It just rolled along and was full of thought evoking life lessons. What should be obvious in life isn’t always so this book was a good reminder. Highly recommend this book to all.
