London Mafia Kings #1

Cold Hard Kisses

Rate this book
Tam:
I’ll give Hallie Wynter thirty days.
Thirty days of living with me before I’ll marry her.
Thirty days for her to tell me no, so I can send her running back to my family’s biggest rival—her father.
She might act tough, but I don’t doubt my ability to break her.
She’s so innocent. So naïve.
The girl will be begging to go home by the time I’m done with her.

Hallie:
Tam Cornell is too old for me; too hard, too cold, too everything.
It was never supposed to be him.
I know he’s pushing me, trying to send me back to a father who is just as ruthless as he is.
He thinks he can shock me with his filthy words and violent touch, but nothing he can expose me to will make me leave.
My father has always taught me family is everything.
And in thirty days Tam Cornell will become my family, too, whether he likes it or not.

This was about Hallie, who is part of the Wynter family, and Tam, who is part of the Cornell family. Both families have been rivals for years and as a new family is making issues for the Wynter’s and Cornell’s, they agree to have their children marry so they can become allies.

This book reminded me a little of Sophie Lark’s Brutal Prince which I also loved so I knew I would like this book. The main difference between the two is that this book is set in England instead of America lol

After the prequel I knew I needed more. Tam and Hallie are a must read for mafia fans. And I can’t wait for more from this series.

It opens with devastation and turns into an unconventional situation for Tam and Hallie. Coming from rival families in London, facing a potential war with a third faction, the families try to align and strengthen. An arranged marriage ‘for the good of the family’ seems logical but is strongly opposed by the children. That is until it’s no longer an obligation and driven by passion, lust, and ultimately love.

Tam had his moments where I was so mad at him when I saw his actions through Hallie’s eyes but once you see his POV he’ll change your mind. He can’t seem to get out of his own way to make things right on more than one occasion. His stubbornness nearly loses him the girl. But there something about his push your limits, break you and build you up manner than I couldn’t stop reading.

🔥 arranged marriage, mafia romance
🔥 rival families uniting for power
🔥 sort of second chance romance too (read the prequel)
🔥 21yo h & 34yo H
🥵 sex in a club against a glass wall!!
✌🏽 under a table in a restaurant window

There’s a note in the beginning about this story being set in London, England and using appropriate language and idioms. Honestly I don’t usually read British English stories, as an American, but this one was easy to follow and understand. Biggest things I picked up on is there are ‘s’ where ‘z’ should be and underwear/panties are knickers.

I am not even 10% into the book and I already struggle to keep on reading. The immaturity of the characters is staggering. But that’s not even all, the author additionally plays with the topic of age gap, but fails to present characters that act age appropriate. Not only the male lead and his childish dialogue with his father was disappointing to experience but also the introduction of the female lead with her lack of showing any interesting character traits. Her headspace reflects that of a young narcissistic teenager, only interested in how her love life might look like, or lack there off. But that her dad slaps her at the age of 24 and the only thing on her mind is to call her bestie to gossip about the news of her future love life is simply not what I wish to read about. Even the characters in the previous novel I read, despite being younger acted more grounded and mature than these two presented in this book.
The plot is also not really mind blowing, the theme of a arranged marriage to strengthen the family is as old as the written word.
So far the book doesn’t present anything to keep me interested.

I really liked this a lot but some of the scenes came off as a bit immature for me. I am interested in Leo’s story for sure!

horrible

Had potential but the so called story was all over the place. Never got a clear view of who the main characters were nor were they even likable. She was abused and then insta love and no idea why. Plus they never said who killed the one brother. And it was sooo easy to figure out who the traitor was. Just all around an awful mess

Read more to give it a chance but I just can’t with this asshole. Forcing her to get naked then to put plug inside her ass even tho she said no😐.
Whenever she says no to anything he threatens her with breaking their arrangement like forcing someone to say yes still means NO ugh, even if she might like it later it’s still disgusting. And the way he treats her like she’s an object or his sex toy.
I wouldn’t even give this book a one star if I could.
I’m hopping Jayden’s book will be much better than this piece of shit and waste of paper and time.

Update:
OH MY GOD WHY AM I MAKING MYSELF MAD BY CONTINUING TO READ THIS PIECE OF SHIT OF A BOOK!! Tam is the worst fucking ml ever!! He’s so sick. How can someone amply that the woman they love has an incest relationship with her brother?? And what? Telling him the details of him fucking his sister with bottle and him getting aroused by it🤢. There’s a line to everything even in forbidden/dark or taboo romances but this book has crossed it. Yikes.

2.5 but I rounded up to be nice
MMC had some OUT OF POCKET LINES LMFAOOOOOOOOOO Ngl it was ironically funny at times. Basic plot, basic mc, basic enemies to lovers but they COMPLETELY lost their spark when they had actual sex for the first time and all of a sudden fell in love ??? It was good tension up until then I guess but also he was an actual asshole LMAOOOO so don’t read this if u don’t want to hate the MMC. not super memorable but not the worst I’ve read either so

Honestly this book is giving sexual assault and rape. none of their first sexual encounters are something she wanted and he basically forced her to do what he wanted with blackmail not caring at all about how she felt and basically admitting to wanting to force her and being a pervert. disgusting writing.

One of the worst books I've ever read. Cheating trope. MMC having thoughts where he forces himself on the FMC. FMC easily forgiving the MMC after he said disgusting things about her and her brother just after a few pretty words and a diamond ring. Damsel in distress. Author kept mentioning the night FMC was 18 like it was something special, but we never got a proper explanation that what actually happened that night. Infidelity. Toxicity. I've read a ton of mafia books and believe me I don't get disturbed or disgusted easily. But this book was just a series of 🚩🚩. MMC creepily watched the FMC take a bath through the cameras *before* they were actually together. MMC took insulting to a whole new level with the FMC. One second MMC hated her with everything and was running around hurting her physically and emotionally, the next he is all like "I'll do anything for you and blah blah". I hated this book so much that I wanted to DNF it. I seriously have no idea why I actually finished it. I'm extremely disappointed for some reason after reading this book. Never trusting insta recs again.

I read this because it was compared to Sophie Lark's Brutal Prince but based on England. Kind of cringey, when written to sound British, using "arse". Dialogue is cringey and made it difficult to enjoy. Plot was kind of glossed over and not really resolved by end of book.

Don’t read this book. The characters act insane and have no development. There’s also a very vulgar reference to incest.

I love this book so much I couldn’t put it down from the time I started reading it:) I stayed up until 9am reading this wonderful book these are some of my favorites to read. The dads of the main characters got on my nerves especially the girl character because of how he way treating her but that’s to kinda be expect in these situations. I really liked how the two main characters have a history already and this book totally is fine to read without reading that one first. It gives good background info but in my opinion it would be more fun going to that book and then this one. I didn’t know it had one before I read this book which was still amazing I just think it would add to the fun and understanding/ know of the characters more. I’m so happy how this book turned out and know I’ll read it a lot along with more by this author I’m so happy I find this book! It’s a winner for sure especially if you love mafia books/ enemies to lovers books like I do! The characters have so much understanding and in common in my opinion with each other once they put aside their stubbornness. It’s also funny in some ways too I believe it has a little of everything in it that I love and you will probably love it too!! So pick up your copy today for this awesome book that’s really hard to put down once you get started lol :)

COLD HARD KISSES is a darkly intriguing romance that is filled with intense emotions and actions. The characters are complex and well-drawn. The storyline is fast paced, drawing you in from the beginning and keeping you thoroughly enthralled until the very end. It’s a gripping tale that will hold your interest from start to finish.

Read as part of the Dark/Bully Reader Challenge for August/September.

British? Mafia? Age Gap? Broody dark hero? Here we go checking all the boxes.

It was a fun, quick, and dirty (hello club scene) read. But Tam was the broody AH we want as a main character, who of course turns it all around thanks to the power of love.

I’m also super curious to see where book 2 goes!

Tam and Hallie reconnect, but not under happy circumstances. There is lots of mystery, suspense, danger, double crossing, sizzling chemistry, and true love!

The concept of the story is good.
The man she was meant to marry is gunned down at the alter so she is going to be force to marry his older brother, but has to live with him for a month before.

Tam is an awful excuse for a human being and a massive spoilt man-child. The way he treats her, speaks to her and speaks about her is actually disgusting. He act more like 14 not 34

She doesn’t have much of a backbone and again acts more like 14 than 21 at times. There are a few times you almost see her stand up but then she crumples. She also goes running back to him after everything where she should be escaping to the other end of the country.

The consent is borderline , even if she enjoys it, she initially says no or not really given a choice or the choice is do what he says or he will send her back to her father (who has already hit he and threatened her)

And the final note about his younger brother’s fiancé, just pointless, there is no need for it, it was rushed and unnecessary…

- dark mafia romance, arranged marriage, enemies to lovers, age gap, forced proximity, praise k!nk
- i could not get into this book until like page 150, but i am glad i stuck with it
- and i guessed who had double crossed them from like page 50 (i was proud of me)
- Tam was such a whiny fucking arsehole and constantly told Hallie she was acting like a child when it was him acting like one
- his emotions did a 360 so fast i got whiplash
- he literally fucked her with a champagne bottle and i don’t know how i feel about it
- omg when she finally stood up for herself it made me want to cheer, a doormat you will no longer be Hallie
- ah wtf why would they do that to Jodie
- the thing that happened to them 3 years ago just felt really out of place?? and was just there to make it easier
- i’m sorry that man did not grovel enough
- s*x was really hot tho
- so we’re just gonna not find out who killed Harvey??
- glad they got their HEA but just feel like something was missing??

It wasn’t the worst but I hated that it was once again one of those books where the main characters like just fall in love. There is no substance. It’s “I hate her” then from one chapter to another it’s “she’s my everything. I can’t live without her. She’s MY LIFE!” Okay she’s you’re everything… but like why? What about her???

MMC was a douche for majority of the book. Even right before they officially get together he says “even though I treat you like shit?” After she says and does something nice. FMC was a push over and it was annoying.

This was my first book by the author and I will definitely be reading more. I downloaded during the September stuff your kindle day and it hooked me instantly.

Hallie begins the book believing she will be married to Harvey Cornell, while not a love match she’s willing to make the best of her situation because she gets on with Harvey and believes that he is a good man. On their wedding day Harvey is shot right in front of her. To save the alliance between the Cornells and the Wynters Harvey’s older brother Tam is ordered to step in and marry Hallie.

Hallie thinks that Tam hates her and in the beginning he is cruel and does everything he can to drive her away. Despite humiliating and degrading her, Hallie can’t deny the intense attraction she feels towards Tam and when they give in to the feelings it’s explosive and passionate. Tam makes a huge mistake, pushes Hallie too far and so she leaves him. Eventually Tam realises that he fell in love with her the first time they met and that she is everything he wants.

There is a good solid plot line running through the book alongside the relationship stuff. I did guess the traitor almost instantly but it didn’t in any way ruin my enjoyment of the book. I’m really looking forward to the next in the series to see how Leo tries to get even for Jodie’s death and hopefully to see more of Tam and Hallie, and what they are doing after the wedding.

The spice is really spicin’ all the way through the second half of this book and I would definitely advise caution if reading in public 😈

HEA, No epilogue, Ex-fiancé’s brother, Arranged marriage, Forced proximity, Mild kink, British crime family.

A new groom to take his brother's place!
by sewsummore

This book is set in the city of London where two rival mafia families unite to fight a new family intent on taking London for themselves. The Cornell Organisation and the Wynter Syndicate had been uneasy rivals but with the arrival of a new and powerful rival family, only together would they survive the battle ahead. Harvey Cornell would marry Hallie, the daughter of Marlon Wynter, however the groom was killed by an assassin before their vows were completed. Hallie had not been in love with her future bridegroom but never expected that his brother would be forced to take his place. Tam was Harvey's older brother and had not been given any choice either, but was determined to make Hallie refuse. He would only marry her if she spent a month living with him before they said their vows. This book grabbed my attention from the start. Tam was much older and determined to force Hallie to refuse the marriage, but Hallie believed that only marriage between the two would keep her family safe. It was a battle of wills from the beginning, nothing he said or did could change Hallie's mind and Tam found himself becoming obsessed with his future wife. Hallie was a woman I can only admire! Tam was much older and more experienced in every way, but he could not resist admiring Hallie, it was only when he pushed her too far and she left, that he realized he had fallen in love for the first time.
