Kasis teeters on the edge of war, with the Peace Force tightening their grip on power and the rebels relegated to the shadows. Behind the scenes, the Shadow Assembly pulls the strings, bending the world to its will.
With their identities compromised, gifted sisters Burn and Scar must navigate their new reality as fugitives, searching for a way to destroy their enemy without destroying themselves. For Burn, that means giving up the only family she’s ever known in order to infiltrate the elite, scouring the highest tiers for answers. Down below, Scar embraces the darkness, discovering her true strength and setting the world on a collision course that could kill them all.
Simmering tensions come to a head in the final saga of the Burn this City trilogy. With their very world hanging in the balance, can Burn and Scar do what it takes to save their city – or will it all come crashing down around them?
Brenda Poppy has spent more than a decade writing and editing for publications across the country, as well as lending her writing and graphic design talents to companies to help them craft their brands.
With a degree in journalism and sociology from Marquette University, she loves to seek out unique stories and capture them for others to enjoy. When not writing, the Milwaukee native can be found acting in local theater, spending time with her adorable corgi, Darcy, or traveling around the world with her husband in search of craft cocktails, good food, and inspiration for her next novel.
Burning Down the Dark is a fantastic conclusion to the Burn this City trilogy. It brings back everything I loved from the first two books – the complex characters, the suspense, the life-or-death stakes – with a new twist and even more action and adventure.
This book picks up right where Burned and Scarred left off, with the sisters forced into hiding by the Peace Force. Yet, true to form, neither is content to stay confined to the shadows. With the help of several gifted friends inside the Lunaria, Burn takes on the identity of one of the elite, ascending into the affluent upper tiers in a perilous undercover mission. Meanwhile, Scar uses her own gift with technology to sew turmoil within the city, fanning the flames of resistance as their world tips closer and closer to war.
Burning Down the Dark is a gripping and gritty adventure that will pull you in and keep you on the edge of your seat. The character arcs are incredible, and the world itself comes to life while you’re reading. I’m always a bit skeptical of whether the third book in a trilogy will provide a fitting end to the series, but this one definitely delivered!
Once again Brenda's storytelling pulls you into the world of Kasis. The story flows easily as it continues where Burned and Scarred left off. You will be absorbed into the meetings of the Lunaria, hid from the Peace Force and go on the missions to find out who is the Shadow Assembly. Then battle for your freedom! Amazing how this story can also be related to life in our world today. A must read for all.
"Burning Down the Dark" is the gripping conclusion to the adventures of Burn and Scar. The story pulls you in as the Lunaria hunts down the Peace force and Shadow Assembly for their freedom inside the dome city of Kasis. Brenda's storytelling describes the characters and situations brilliantly. You won't be able to put this book down!
“War was inevitable. It lurked on the horizon like a storm cloud, blotting out the suns. Its cold fingers could be felt in every corner of the city, creeping ever closer and consuming its warmth. The only question was when.”
A brilliant ending to an incredible series!
This book gives the ending this series needed, answers all the questions which have been building but still leaves the story open for more. I love Scar and Burn, they are great characters, their complexity builds in this and they finally get the endings they deserve. They survive all the odds, lots of life and death situations, fighting for their people and finally getting their freedom.
The book is beautifully written, Brenda Poppy’s writing style is lovely and the story just flows off the pages, sucking the reader ib until they are fully submersed in it. I will definitely be looking out for more from Brenda Poppy in the future, this is a great debut series.
