The eleventh " Mountain Man" adventure from JJ Bonham has arrived!
On their way to New Orleans to invest monies that Immanuel’s newly discovered pa, Patrick Gass, had given them, Uzziah became disgruntled with the idea of doing nothing but drinking, gambling and whoring. The two mountain men confront each other and go their separate ways. Uzziah got off the paddle wheeler, while Immanuel stayed onboard and grew deathly ill. Taken to Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Immanuel tried to recover as Uzziah continued on his way to Columbus, Ohio to tell Benjamin’s mother he was dead. Immanuel, better, but not fully recovered, was invited to stay at Dr. Gateaux’s house, where there was a lovely grand-daughter he’d like to deflower. Uzziah only got as far as Nauvoo, Illinois, where a young Mormon woman caught his fancy. Immanuel continued to gamble his pa’s money until his pa showed up in New Orleans. Uzziah got involved with the Mormon community and decided to stay in Nauvoo, unless the Mormon haters regrouped and chased him even farther west. Immanuel did right by his pa, but he hated the city life and left to be with Uzziah, who, he assumed, was in the Rockies. Will the two mountain men ever get on the same page again? Or will Uzziah die trying to save the Prophet Joseph Smith from an angry mob in Carthage, Illinois?
Join the boys as they go through life like the wild mountain men they are – fiercely and with a vengeance.
This was the story of Uzziah's and Immanuel's breakup as partners and Uzziah's marriage to Hanna, the birth of their son, and his death with his mother during childbirth. A sad and convincing tale of two mountain men, their lives independent of each other and their ultimate reunion. A really great Uzziah story in the mountain man series. I would definitely recommend it!
