Tick. Tock. As the clock struck twelve. Cheryl Collins took her last breath...
Time is an elusive beast. Like death, no one can escape it.
Too many errors to be a truly enjoyable read. I found this to be true throughout this entire series. In the last book, Damian became Darren a few times, & then back to Damian. This happened often. The grammatical errors & poor sentence structure made it difficult to follow. Some sentences just didn't make sense no matter how many times I read them. Someone needs to proofread this material before it's published.
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book. Emma Griffin is back in another installment as the super FBI agent. This time it's Bellamy's college friends reuniting for one of their deaths but when things aren't adding up and there are more deaths Emma has to investigate. I absolutely love this series, there is always so much going on. Emma is smart and quick, she always notices things others don't. She also is surrounded by great people that help out. There may be a case she is currently working on but there are other mysteries for her to solve. These stories are always well written and extremely detailed. I am anxiously looking forward to another book in the series.
The prologue of this book was very well written as were the first few chapters, but it went downhill from there. Who was the person climbing in Cheryl’s window? I love a good mystery and suspense, but this storyline gets too complicated with Marie and all of Bellamy’s friends and the multiple investigations by Emma. I hope this series will get wrapped up in the next book as I am tired trying to keep everything straight.
Book Review: The Girl and the Midnight Murder by A.J. Rivers

Review: I really did enjoy this book as it was a different type of murder case. It really had you wondering what was making everyone sick and killing them. It had some facts in it that I did not know about and was interesting to learn. I did put on my detective hat and figured out what was killing everyone, but it wasn’t until closer to the end that I was certain I was right. This is another great book in the Emma Griffin series. If you have enjoyed the other books in the series, I would recommend picking this one up.
The book starts off as Cheryl Bishop is found dead in her house. A man was seen climbing the fire escape and then later leaving through the front door. Nothing more is said about Cheryl until the end of the book. Next, Emma goes with her friend Bellamy to a meeting of her college friends after one girl (Liza) died. A few days later, Liza’s husband Finn died. Although arsenic was found in their bodies, the amount found was not lethal so some other form of poison killed them but what. When another college friend (Darren) is rushed to the hospital, Emma requests a camera be installed in his room. After Darren dies, Emma watches the camera and thinks she’s solved the puzzle of who the killer is and how they are killing others.
In the prologue, a man was seen climbing the fire escape into Cheryl's apartment and later seen walking out the front door. Who was he and what did he put in her apartment? Another unanswered question. This series started out so good but there are so many unanswered questions.
In the first book, Emma's father was gone for 20 years. Where? Why did Greg leave the hospital with an unidentified woman? Who killed Greg? These are just some of the questions I had.
Read as a standalone, will now not go back to the beginning. So many of these out there, reads like Elle Gray wrote it, same indie publisher too it appears.
Story was okay, not great, but so much time spent on matters that were obviously from her past which I do NOT want to know about, I've read enough horrible past stories to last my lifetime and don't intend to begin another series. The book was well written and plotted, perhaps a bit trite in that the cause of death in the murders has been used before by other writers often enough that it came as no surprise at all to me. I liked the characters well enough but not enough to start from the beginning. A good read if you like the genre, just a couple typos, but FBI thrillers are becoming passé for me. Nothing against the book, just the genre.
'The Girl and the Midnight Murder' is the 16th book in the Emma Griffin FBI Series. I was a little disappointed in it. A sorority sister of Bellamy's dies unexpectedly. She asks Emma to go with her to the sorority house, for support, as they are doing a memorial there. Soon more of Bellamy's friends start getting sick. What is causing it?
I noticed in this book there were a lot of grammatical errors. It took away from the book for me. I will still read the series. It needed better editing, I think.
I get a bit bored with having to read about every movement Emma makes, but the story is always good. Bellamy calls for Emma to accompany her to their old college town because of a friend dying. Shortly thereafter, another friend and husband of the deceased dies, so now we have a case. Sam is trying to find his missing cousin. Just a lot going on and well worth reading. I skip through some of the paragraphs of Emma’s chewing, or breathing, or whatever fodder is taking up paragraphs.
Another great crime mystery solved by FBI agent Emma Griffin. This time it involved her college acquaintances. She hadn't had a close relationship with any of them, but her best friend had. When one of them dies suddenly she asks Emma to go with her. This would only be the first death among these college friends. Of course crack FBI Agent Griffin gets to the bottom of it and catches the one responsible for the murders.
Trying to solve how and why people were being murdered was part of the story. I had figured out who did it right away, but didn't know why. I'm still a little fuzzy on the reason some of the people were killed. I was kind of surprised that Emma didn't see it right away. But good reading as always from A.J. Rivers. Waiting for next book to settle the mystery of missing Marie!
Another amazing book in the Emma Griffin series. This time Emma becomes involved in a puzzling series of strange deaths that revolve around a sorority homecoming. Emma accompanies Bellamy on a weekend visit to Bellamy’s old college, but it is not to be a relaxing weekend. Who is poisoning all these people and why? Meanwhile Sam is investigating the disappearance of his cousin. As always there is plenty of excitement in this continuing story-
Once again she has spun a tale that is filled with other storyline & while she brings one to a close we are left hanging and wondering how the others will end. Meaning I will most certainly be waiting for the next book! This one to me seemed a little obvious but I now now with Rivers it only seemed obvious because she intended it to be and somewhere down the line we will most likely be reintroduced.
This segment of the Emma Griffin mysteries is a bit more interesting than the last few offerings. We get a series of deaths among Bellamy's former college friends. A group that Emma never became a part of. The killings seem like possible infections to begin with, but soon are considered to be possible poisonings. As the book winds down things that were sprinkled throughout the story come together to make the plot more cohesive.
With all the crimes Emma is working on she gets another interesting crime to solve. She seems always questioning something strange rather then just accept a cause as natural. She solved this mystery by combing another with the ones she was active on. It was interesting reading with a surprising ending after celebrating Thanksgiving with her family (friends).
Sam's relative is missing and Bellamy's close college friend dies suddenly and mysteriously. So, Sam goes one way, and Emma goes with Bellamy, leaving her investigations on hold. Bellamy will need to find new friends when all is resolved, and A J Rivers still needs to find a quality proofreader. I really enjoy this series, but so many sentences need to have wording corrections that I do get a little frustrated!
Very puzzling circumstances but Emma is up to resolving them. Bellamy’s friends start dropping dead in a mysterious illness and the doctors are stumped. Meanwhile Sam tries to find his missing cousin to no avail. Read this one in one day and ready for the next. Jonah is still out there and Emma is still determined to find him.
Again a bit farfetched with the details. Emma is wayyyy toooo full of knowledge on everything. Also long explanations of the Jonah case need not have been added other than to refresh our memories of a case we still haven't solved and apparently won't since we are moving on with Sams case next. Just finish with Jonah and make each book a separate novel.
I have read all of the 16 books on Emma Griffin FBI Mysteries. I have enjoyed them all, loved the characters Emma,Sam, Dean, Xavier,Eric and Bellamy, Johah and Ian. Looking forward to the next book in the FBI Mysteries, but in the meantime I just started Edge of the Woods. Thanks for the good mysteries!
Gone to support her friend Bellamy because Bellamy's friend from college has suddenly died. What starts as one person dead turns into more and they can't figure it out. Thankfully Emma is around and will do as she is trained and figure it out.
Big pet peeve - when the author uses the same word(s) repeatedly throughout the book. This time it was "alright". Emma is an FBI Agent... I think she might have a better vocabulary than "Alright, well then I read her correctly" or "Alright, I have to know". Both within 4 paragraphs of each other. If there was a way for me to calculate how many times the word Alright was used....
Overall, it's getting 3 stars. I really just want the series to end so I know what happens.
This book was slow to get into. Generally, after the prologue the story starts to take shape faster but the story was so well written that I couldn't hardly put the book down. How A.J. Rivers comes up with these storylines is baffling. I highly recommend this series to any reader who loves a good mystery.
Bellamy is in crisis and calls on Emma for emotional support as her college chums start dying; one is unfortunate. When her husband also dies days later with similar symptoms, suspicion of foul play rears its head. A third death? Definitely murder!
I feel like family! That’s how I’ve grown to know Emma, Dean and Xavier. It’s like I’m there with them through every moment-good and bad. We just had Thanksgiving dinner! Now on to Christmas. What a rollercoaster ride near the end. I thought I had it all figured out but rivers knows how to shock!
I am a huge fan of Emma Griffin. She is bad ass and yet so human. My aunt is turning 90 and like my Mother was, is an avid reader. My gift to her (besides travelling 400 + miles to be at her party this coming weekend), are the first two books of the Emma Griffin series. I doubt she will catch up to me but you never know. I will try to leave more reviews. I just now saw Ava has her own series. I'm on book 16 and haven't heard much about her so Im happy to see her and Dean get some spotlight. My favorite character of all time is Xavier. I can relate to him as my brother has a similar personality. every now and then i see a few mistakes but it never takes away from the story and almost makes the book read like I'm having a conversation so I am in no way criticizing the author. AJ Rivers, you keep on going as you are showing the world you have an amazing talent at storytelling.
I love this series. The stories are fast paced and full of action. But, oh the cliff hangers! I seriously cannot wait for the next book. Please hurry A. J.
Emma has done it again! I love this book series so much and I feel like I am part of Emma's life!! I cannot wait to see what happened to the inmate in the next book!!
Another hit!! I love your books and I absolutely cannot wait for the 17th. Already checking every day and I'm waiting to press that pre-order button! Keep up the good work lady!
When your best friend calls you for help you go. Her friends from college are dying. Why? What has caused this. Arsenic? Seems so at first but Emma finds the truth. Love will kill you.
