Great cozy story-telling! One of my favorite series! Wonderful characters! Love the pets! Love the Bean Hive Coffee Shop! The red herrings in this story definitely threw me off the real killer’s identity!

Barista Bump-Off Earns 5/5 Mystery Mopeds…Entertaining Fun!

Roxy Bloom, now Mrs. Roxy Cane, is enjoying success with The Bean Hive, her coffeehouse situated on the boardwalk of Honey Springs, a small lake community nestled in the hills of the Kentucky bluegrass. It’s a go-to stop to pick up a sweet treat, a cup of personally crafted blends, and some delicious gossip. Roxy is not really a newcomer having been a frequent summer visitor, but now as a permanent resident, she joins in with community events, partners with Pet Palace to have on hand a few adoptable shelter animals, allows a home economics study group access to her kitchen since their class is a victim of budget cuts, and uses her degree as a lawyer and sleuthing experience to help uncover killers. Busy life!

Most Honey Springs residents feel safe enough to wander around and often keep doors unlocked, but a rash of purse-snatching has everyone on edge, pointing fingers as to who is responsible to curb the rise in crime, and even “Low-retta” Bebe campaigning to replace the ineffective mayor. It gets worse when Roxy, alerted by her schnauzer’s incessant barking, finds a body floating near the pier. The victim’s identity was difficult to pin down since the name she’d originally given was false, and with a further search and information from someone in which the victim confided, the victim had won a ten-million dollar lottery. The story about how the winning ticket came into her possession, the recent rash of purse snatching, and her mother’s giddy laughter gives Roxy plenty to explore.

Tonya Kappes has brought another brew-rific! drama for the eleventh book in her Killer Coffee Mystery series: lots of coffee, a few sweet treats, and a clever, engaging murder mystery twisting together the different facets of greed, and a suspect pool that includes friends, family, residents, and visitors. An excellent discussion element arises when assigning consequences to the “sin” of greed is complicated by “need.” I thought I had the right solution, but again, Kappes’ signature surprises gave me a big “Oh, my!” smile! The mother/daughter dynamic between Penny and Roxy takes on an old, yet renewed, conflict with which many mothers and daughters might identify. Roxy always had a unique relationship with her paternal aunt, and Penny has squabbled with her sister-in-law for decades, and now that Penny has moved to Honey Springs, issues are yet to be resolved. Now the issue of Penny’s “dating” complicates family, especially when Roxy suspects the “date” in question of murder. Lots of animals about, and the “mouthy” talking bird is a fun addition. Recipes, Please! Straight from The Bean Hive, enjoy an easy-to-follow recipes for Lemon-Poppyseed Biscuits and Frothy and Frozen Caramel Latte. Still one of my favorite caffeinated series!

Disclosure: I received an ARC from the author. My review is voluntary with honest insights and comments.

Barista Bump-Off by Tonya Kappes is the eleventh A Killer Coffee Mystery. It can be read as a standalone for those new to the series. Roxy Bloom and her dog, Pepper are ready to head home. Roxy is a little afraid to be along on the boardwalk after the purse snatching earlier in the day. After locking the door, Roxy hears footsteps and Pepper takes off for the pier. Roxy turns on her flashlight app and pears into the water where she finds a woman floating in the water. She quickly calls Sheriff Spencer Shepard. The woman is identified as someone who has been renting a cabin from Aunt Maxi. Her purse is missing as well making people wonder if the purse snatcher has escalated into a killer. Roxy soon discovers that the victim was hiding a large secret. Loretta Bebe is up in arms over the crime rate in Honey Springs and decides to run for mayor. She is making Roxy her campaign manager and has set up shop in the Bean Hive. Roxy has her hands full with running her coffee shop but that will not stop her from investigating the murder as well as the purse snatching. Being Loretta’s campaign manager is not a task she wishes to take on. Roxy will need to stay on her toes so she will not become the next victim. Barista Bump-Off is easy to read courtesy of Tonya Kappes’ engaging writing style. It is like visiting old friends when you dive into one of this author’s books. The characters are fun and quirky which is typical of a small Southern town. I like the animals included in the story. A talkative parrot is up for adoption at the Bean Hive this time. The mystery had Pepper and Roxy finding body floating in the lake. There are a limited number of suspects. Roxy searches online and asks questions of various people in order to solve the whodunit. I like that she actively investigates and works with Sheriff Shepard. Both crimes are neatly wrapped up at the end of the book. Roxy is also anxious about her mother, Penny who has begun dating and is being secretive about it. We must wait to see who will become the next mayor of Honey Springs, Kentucky. There are two recipes from the Bean Hive at the end of the book. Barista Bump-Off is a charming Southern cozy mystery with a gabby parrot, a mysterious murder victim, an impudent purse snatcher, tasty pastries, a resolute Loretta, and precious plans.

I love coming back to Honey Springs to see old friends and find out what’s going on. With Roxy there is always an adventure.
Seems there is a moped riding purse snatcher in Honey Springs on the Boardwalk. There is also a murder, so two mysteries to solve. Are the purse snatching and murder related? Definitely going to keep Roxy busy. Like she doesn’t have enough to take care of with the Bean Hive.
Quirky characters, so many twists and turns, a talking parrot that has a lot to say kept me guessing.

I received an ARC prior to publication and decided to voluntarily review it.

Ms. Kappes has done it again! She’s knocked it out of the ballpark with another fun whodunit in the Killer Coffee Mystery series. Purse snatchings and a death along the boardwalk. Are they related crimes or not? A talking parrot who repeats everything is up for adoption instead of the usual cat or dog, there are a couple of newcomers to town, Loretta plans to run for Mayor of Honey Springs, we have gossip, twists, turns, and a couple of surprises at the end involving, well, I’ll just let you find out for yourself.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I was happy that we didn't have to wait too long before another Killer Coffee came out because of how the last one ended. I'm not spilling anything, you'll have to read and see! ;)

I loved that Roxy and Aunt Maxi got to sleuth together meaning actually physically sleuth together not just working on a case at the same time. Maxi always cracks me up how she tries to keep it together whenever Low-retta's around, lol. But her inner snark always comes out, and that's what I love most about her. The pet to be adopted out this time was a mouthy parrot named (real original on the owner's part lol) Polly who repeated pretty much everything she heard. But she did come in handy later on.

I had a sneaky feeling fairly early as to whodunit, but at that point I didn't really know why. The showdown was a good one, and who knew good ole Loretta might come in so handy?

The ending of the book had everyone gathering for a town meeting at the spa where the latest pet was also finding its new home. What said latest pet blurted out is making me super eager now for the next book!

Roxy, the owner of the Bean Hive Coffeeshop in Honey Springs, KY, is back with another suspicious death to investigate. Recently there has been someone purse snatching people when out on the boardwalk near Roxy’s shop. So when the body of a woman is found near by where these thefts have taken place everyone is concerned that the theif has now resorted to murder. But is that really the cas? That is what Roxy wants to find out.

Author Tonya Kappes has done it again. This is an entertaining escape into the wonderful town and characters she has created. The mystery is an entertaining roller coaster with twists and turns along the way of solving the murder. The characters are fun, quirky, relatable and charming. Tonya has also incorporated her love for fur babies into each book by highlighting an animal that is waiting to meet his or her right person and forever home. Being an animal lover myself it warms my heart to meet each spotlighted pet and see how they add to the storyline and the lives of the characters. I am looking forward to the next visit to Honey Spring.

All thoughts and opinions are my own, and in no way have I been influenced by anyone.

This is one of my all time favorite series. I feel like I'm going to visit friends when I return to Honey springs. Patrick and Roxy are such a loving couple and bring so much warmth to the story. The cast of quirky characters always make me laugh. This mystery is finely crafted with lots of twists. Plus, my mouth waters from the delicious treats served at The Bean Hive Coffee House. When you throw in pet adoption, you definitely have a winner!

I was excited to visit Roxy and the Bean Hive coffeehouse in Honey Springs, Kentucky again! The Bean Hive is described so well, I can almost smell the coffee and Roxy’s baked goodies. The author gives us characters and a setting that are very easy to become invested in. Honey Springs in springtime sounds very picturesque, and this reader could almost feel and hear the goings-on of nature. The mystery is complex; I was totally surprised at whodunit.

The sheriff, Spencer, and his deputies have been running on empty since the mayor refused to approve an increase to the budget for more staff. Honey Springs has many more tourists since The Be Happy Resort has brought them for their spa. While it hasn’t exactly been a hotbed of crime, that could easily change. The first hint is when Loretta Bebe, one of the movers and shakers in the community, ran screaming into the Bean Hive after somebody on a moped snatched her purse.

Later that evening when Roxy was leaving with her pup, Pepper, she heard feet running on the boardwalk but didn’t see anyone. Pepper ran off to the pier and barked until Roxy followed, after calling her husband. Patrick arrived to hear her scream as she found what Pepper had barked at – the body of a red-haired woman, in the water, at the pier. The sheriff didn’t find any ID on her and the deputies were searching for her purse or cellphone on the bank of the lake.

Between gossip – uh, news – traveling fast in this small town, and folks listening to their police scanners, Aunt Maxi hurried to where the action was. She recognized the redhead from the lake as the renter of a cabin she owns who has been there about six months. They will have to check with Penny, Roxy’s mother who is also the local realtor, for information on the young woman. Birdie and her grandmother, Loretta, arrived. Birdie recognized the young woman as Stella Johnson, who had visited the coffeehouse regularly during her shift. Birdie really enjoyed Stella’s company, and Stella had often taste-tested Birdie’s latest coffee concoctions. Stella had won a $10 million lottery, claimed it anonymously, and took the lump sum with her. Without her purse, they have no idea who she really was, if she had any of the cash with her, or if her death was the result of a purse snatching gone bad.

Maxi is the next victim of the purse snatcher. Roxy wants to find out what is going on in her town. Loretta is now running for mayor as her solution to adequately funding the sheriff department to have enough staff for the growing community and tourist volume. Loretta has, without asking, picked Roxy to be her campaign manager, in her spare moments between running the coffeehouse and helping find whodunit. Oh, and representing a murder suspect, also, as Roxy is an attorney who now practices only to help people out. She loves her life exactly how it is these days!

This fabulous cozy kept me guessing all the way through, and I couldn’t figure out whodunit. I could have never figured this one out without a whole lot more clues! A red herring kept me completely sidetracked for a little while, even though the person didn’t quite feel right. This mystery overall had a very satisfying ending, and I highly recommend it for fans of the author, of small-town Kentucky, and lots of coffee!

From a thankful heart: I received a complimentary copy of this novel, and this is my honest review.

Review:

The characters are well developed and well rounded. It was really good to be with Roxy and the gang, including Patrick, Aunt Maxi and Maxi’s employees at the Bean Hive. This time Maxi will have to figure out who the purse snatcher is and finds out if they are responsible for another murder.

The writing flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and these descriptions kept me engaged from the very beginning and took me on a great journey. The mystery is well plotted and not easily solved.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. These books just keep getting better.

I volunteered to review an ARC of this book and and I have given this honest review

Honey Springs is experiencing a rash of crime where purses are being snatched. The culprit hits and rides away. Loretta and Maxi were two of the victims. Everyone is on edge.

As Roxy is closing the coffeehouse, Pepper ventures further than he is supposed to. Pepper won't stop barking. Roxy is a little spooked, but isn't about to leave Pepper to his own devices. To prove to Pepper that his barking was for nothing, Roxy shines her light into the water only to see a body.

Aunt Maxi and Birdie have met the victim. Birdie blurts out some information not known to anyone.

Loretta is fit to be tied about the crime around Honey Springs, and decides to take matters into her own hands, including dragging Roxy into her plans without consent.

Roxy is sure that she has the first suspect to be questioned, when she faces opposition from her Aunt Maxi. What does Aunt Maxi know that she doesn't?

Roxy has her hat thrown into the ring after the victim's best friend, makes Roxy her lawyer and gives Roxy the chance to do some sleuthing to learn more about the victim.

I love the digs that Aunt Maxi and Loretta throw at one another, although, Aunt Maxi isn't the best sleuth and I wanted to yell right along with Roxy at the Maxi's heedless behavior. I was surprised who the culprit turned out to be.

I received a complimentary copy and I have voluntarily reviewed this book.

Welcome back to Honey Springs where the gossip is as thick and sticky as the honey the town is named for.

There's been a rash of purse snatchings on the boardwalk and when Loretta's purse is snatched, she decides she's going to challenge the current mayor to make the town safer! When Aunt Maxi's purse is then snatched, all bets are off! These 2 formidable women plan to shake things up and make things happen. The scariest thing is the fact that they are working together!

In what appears to be a purse snatching gone wrong, a body is discovered by Roxie and her dog Pepper. The victim is a long-term tenant of Aunt Maxi's. According to Birdie, she's been keeping a secret. She's the big winner of a lottery and just needs a place hide and figure out her next move.

As Roxie tries to figure out who done it, the motives seem to be all over the place. Add to the mix, the fact that her mom is keeping some sort of secret and the latest pet, which is a bird, that just won't shut up!

All in all, Honey Springs is the place I always enjoy returning to. Since I am a coffee junkie, I would love to try out the different roasts that Birdie is always creating.

Thank you to Tonya Kappes for the advanced copy.

Roxy’s back along with charming family and the Bean Hive. She’s got two mysteries to solve. A series of purse snatchings has everyone on edge, so much so that people are not going out and enjoying the Honey Springs Boardwalk. One mystery isn’t enough for Roxy! She and Pepper find a body by the boardwalk and it appears it might be related to the purse snatchings. Roxy is on the case! The victim happens to have just won the lottery and might have been in Honey Springs hiding out! Roxy has a keen mind for mysteries. As a former lawyer, she knows how to ask the right questions and get to the bottom of things! This was a great mystery! I love creating my own list of suspects and trying to figure it out before Roxy! You know when you read a Tonya Kappes’s mystery you better be prepared to clear some time to start and finish her story! She builds amazing towns with characters that keep you coming back for more! She always leaves you wanting more! I’m excited to read Roxy’s next adventure soon! I am honored to read an advanced copy of this book. I am not required to leave a review. The comments are my own. This is one of the best cozy mystery authors around!

There is always a lot happening in Honey Springs. In this installment of A Killer Coffee Mystery, Roxie has her hands full with Birdie’s school group, then, Aunt Maxie, runs into the Bean Hive Coffeehouse announcing there was a drive-by purse snatching! Sheriff Spencer Shepard arrives, demanding the mayor to do something to “fix the budget” or the mayor wouldn’t have a job! In which the mayor tells him in no uncertain terms, the SHERIFF needs to get crime under control or he will be campaigning to find a real sheriff! If that doesn’t set things on edge, Loretta Bebe, arrives yelling she has been robbed! Her pursed had been snatched in broad daylight! Once again, the sheriff is in the hotseat as Loretta demands he does his job. With the purse snatching happening in broad daylight, Roxie is a little nervous leaving the coffeehouse that night. As Pepper, her Schnauzer, takes off barking along the pier, things go from bad to worse. Once again, Roxie has discovered a dead body! Has the purse snatcher escalated to murder? Roxie is determined to find the answers!

Grab your to-go cup and head on out with Roxy, as she tries to find the killer before anyone else in Honey Springs becomes a victim. Hang on for the twists and turns, there are plenty to keep you guessing. I enjoy reading about the characters and how their lives change from book to book and especially when a new character is introduced. Although, there were a few suspects, this killer wasn’t on my radar! Many things come into play in this installment; Loretta decides to run for mayor, making Roxy, her campaign manager, as well as, Roxy’s mom dating, Come for the coffee but stay for the excitement! Another excellent book by author, Tonya Kappes.

WOW, I never even suspected who the murderer was until Roxy did - boy was I surprised. This was the last person I would have thought would do it.
I love Honey Springs, when I read about Roxy and the coffee shop I can smell the coffee and the beans being roasted. I see myself there with people from the town and hear the gossip, I mean “discussions”, going on around me. Being there, even if only temporarily, seems comforting and easy.
I’m a little surprised about Aunt Maxi and Low-retta getting along and agreeing on some things, don’t suppose that will last very long.
Roxy has the best family and friends, they are so fun and supportive to her and each other. And Roxy has the biggest heart, offering jobs to all those who need to have some way to supports themselves. She does seem to always get the fur or feather babies adopted when they are in her shop.
Can’t wait for the next time I visit Honey Springs!

Hello my cozy friends,

Today I am reviewing "Barista Bump Off" the11th instalment in the A Killer Coffee Mystery Series by Tonya Kappes. I was so happy to visit Honey Springs Kentucky again, as I love this series.

As always a Tonya’s stories are filled with humour, wonderful characters and a mystery to solve. I love visiting Honey Springs and the Bee Hive and this time we have a 15yr old bird named Polly from the Pet Palace to love on.

The mystery is interesting and well plotted, I did figure it out before the reveal but that didn’t stop me from going along for the ride. I loved the interaction with Roxy, Aunt Maxie, Sheriff Shepard and Polly.

The story moves at a steady pace, and I had a hard time putting it down thus I finished it in a few hours. Please note you could read as a stand alone, but you will want to read them all in order.

I cant wait to take another trip to Honey Springs, Kentucky, to see whats new with Roxy and her friends. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading cozy mysteries.

"Barista Bump Off" is book eleven in Tonya Kappes series "A Killer Coffee Mystery." First Loretta gets her purse stolen, and then Roxy's Aunt Maxi gets her purse stolen by someone on a beat-up moped. Loretta declares that she wants to run for office and have Roxy as her manager. She doesn't feel that the sheriff and mayor are doing their part in getting her purse back. Then Roxy finds out that the school is cutting out the home economics class and tries to help Hope out with that. She definitely has her plate full, and then a murder happens, and the lawyer in Roxy has her helping to figure out who did it. My favorite part of this series is how Roxy helps the local animal shelter find home for the pets that need a home. This is one of those series where you just enjoy the small-town feel.

This investigation was really well written but i admit it's what happen in Roxy's life that stayed in my mind when i closed the book.

Roxy is recovering from surgery but that event also made her think about what she really want in life....however no matter how she can wish to put her life in order or more exactly put it to the next stage she has no time when a new murder happen in the middle of a streak of purse stealing. Are both events linked or separate crime? Who is the victim exactly? Roxy has a lot on her plate without learning the new romance of her mother.

I really loved the investigation, and the humour with the different character Loretta wanting to get elected mayor, Roxy's mother in love and hiding it like a teenager. Really it was perfect . The ending just had me hating Roxy'ex even more than before.

Definitively a great cozy mystery, wonderfully written could be read as stand alone but better in order.

This is the 11th book in this series; I’ve read and loved them all, but this would stand alone fine. I do think the series is best read in order, though, as there are some great long story arcs over the course of the series. The main characters are so unique and likable, and there are some fun, quirky supporting characters. I don’t know how the author keeps coming up with original plots for each book, but she certainly does. There are just enough red herrings in solving the mysteries, and we don’t know until the end whether or not the purse snatching are related to the murder. I didn’t figure out the culprit(s) and motivation(s) very early, but just a little before the last reveal. I certainly enjoyed the book and recommend it and the series wholeheartedly. I was provided an arc, but these opinions are my own.

Birdie Bebe is tutoring some of her fellow classmate at the Bean Hive Coffee Shop. Loretta Bebe is her aunt. Aunt Maxi is still hovering over Roxanne from her operation. Birdie is trying to help out the home economics class, something the school board feels isn't necessary. But when Roxanne and Pepper, her dog, find a body under the pier, Birdie and Aunt Maxi knows who she is. She is a stranger in town and had recently come into some money. Was that the reason someone killed her or was she part of the purse snatching that has started and just ended badly for her? Roxanne is out to find the answers. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Roxy is determined to shut down the local crime spree by what ever means necessary. She has enlisted the help of Loretta to make the mayor and sheriff take notice and do something. She is not about to let his disrupt her store or her new life. This would definitely make a quirky town to live in.

This delightfully entertaining series continues to get better with Barista Bump Off that has a well-executed mystery that I couldn't put down because I had to know how it was going to end. I love Roxy and enjoy her dynamic with the other residents of Honey Springs, Kentucky when they come into the Bean Hive Coffeehouse for a cup of her delicious coffee or she is on the trail of the latest culprit. I love my vacations to Honey Springs! Every time a new installment in the Killer Coffee Series arrives, I know that I will be able to get away from daily life for a few hours! I set aside some time, get comfy, and start reading. I have my drinks and snacks ready because I know I will not want to put the book down.

Barista Bump Off did not disappoint and I was able to get away from a cold, snowy day and be transported to Honey Springs to help Roxy solve the latest crime. It started as a few purse snatchings that may have led to murder. As Roxy is leaving for the day, her pup Pepper runs away to the pier and leads Roxy to a body in the water. The town of Honey Springs has another murder and Roxy is on the case. Only this time, Loretta is running for mayor and appoints Roxy as her campaign manager. As usual, Roxy ends up wearing many hats, entrepreneur, amateur sleuth, campaign manager, niece, daughter, wife, boss, fur-mom, referee (for Aunt Maxi and Loretta), and more! Yet, she still finds time to keep her town safe and follow the many clues to solve the case.

Visiting The Bean Hive Coffee Shop and the town of Honey Springs is one of my favorite escapes. I really enjoy walking alongside Roxy, evaluating the suspects, and solving the murder. With so many twists and turns in this book, it really did keep me guessing right to the end.

If you have not read any of the previous books in the Killer Coffee Series, pick them up! You will enjoy your trip to Honey Springs. I am voluntarily reviewing an ARC of this book and the opinions are my own.
