I have thoroughly enjoyed every book I’ve read of Nyssa’s, but this book surpasses them all (in my opinion). Blake is the best yet! This book touches on postpartum depression, which Willow suffered from – unbeknownst to either her or Blake in the beginning and highlights her heartbreaking struggles while Blake was missing due to Project Arma, as well as Blake's determination to win back his family.
Willow was amazing, trying to understand what was going on with herself, find help, and take care of her newborn baby, while trying to keep her head above water while Blake was on missions with his SEAL team, then later missing. Her entire world crashed around her and she fought hard to recover and rebuild her life and take care of their daughter. However, her feelings never changed for her husband, Blake was entwined with her soul and nothing would stop her love for him. When Blake resurfaces two years later and the truth of his kidnapping and alterations are exposed, it creates a whole new set of hurdles for the estranged couple. She thought she’d moved on, hardened her heart. She and Mila moved to Blake’s town so her daughter could know her father, but Willow made it clear there would be no second chance for the two of them…even though she’s yet to sign the papers and even though her heart has yet to get on board with her plan.
Blake had his own regrets about his and Willow’s rocky past. From meeting her when they were fifteen and thirteen, he fell hard, knew she would be the one. Fast forward a few years to a young couple deeply in love, married with an unplanned pregnancy, and Blake’s acceptance on a SEAL team. He was gone a lot, on mission after mission and though he loved Willow deeply was unable to help her the way she needed. Between lack of communication, understanding, love of what he did, and loyalty to his team the cards seemed to be stacked against them. Then he was taken for two long years and his world ended, but his love for Willow and Mila and determination to get back to his family kept him going. When Project Arma was destroyed and he finally was free, he was not going to waste the opportunity to win Willow back, get to know his daughter, and be a family again. Nothing and no one was going to stand in his way this time around, and he’d do whatever it took to get Willow to forgive him and to understand he was back for good. This time he was not letting go, no matter what.
This book tugs on the emotions. From sadness, longing, regret, hopelessness, and desperation, to hope, faith, encouragement, happiness, trust, and love. Nyssa’s writing pulls the reader into the story and it feels like you’re experiencing it all right alongside these amazing characters. Along with a couple of unexpected twists, a shocking betrayal, and more than one close call for this couple, this book was impossible to put down. It was non-stop danger and excitement from start to finish. We also get an introduction to new friends/allies who help Blake and his team and I can’t wait to learn more about them.
