Gillian Godden for me has always written a good ‘gangland’ book and this has continued with ‘Diamond Geezer’ Set in Glasgow on an estate where the law and rules are set by him the DG has full control, rules from afar and his real identity is hidden,he is known as someone completely different to everyone and all runs swimmingly until it doesn’t…..with disastrous consequences There’s a whole host of new characters to get to know and love/hate including Beryl the Nan and Fin who thinks he is gods gift to all and sundry Now I have to mention this, as it was a grrrrrrr moment but then once I got over it was excitement about the next book, the book ends on a cliffhanger, a humdinger of one, exciting, cleverly done and well written but a cliffhanger none the less, a tricky thing for many readers, as say now am over it I cant wait for the next book A great start to a series though, really enjoyed the new settings and characters and family, friends and associates
Nick Diamond is a lawyer. He lives in Chelsea with his wife Patsy. They live an upper-class lifestyle. But there's more to Nick than meets the eye. Nick's Nana lives in Glasgow in a rundown slum estate. Nick will do anything for his Nana. But Nick has a dark and dangerous secret.
What a fabulous book this was even though it started off with a slow pace. The characters were realistic, scary and I wouldn't want to cross any of them. My favourite character was Nick's Nana, she was quite a funny lady. The estate is run by someone called the undertaker and nearly everyone on the estate either owes him money or works for him. I never saw the ending coming. What a twist that was. It was quite a shocker!! This is a fantastic book to read.
I would like to thank #NetGalley #BoldwoodBooks and the author #GillianGodden for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is the second book I've read by this author and so I had high hope for this book.... and this was definitely met ! This was brilliantly written and had everything you'd want and need in this type of book.
In this book we meet Nick Diamond , a handsome successful lawyer , everyone thinks he is a decent trustworthy type of guy.... but they don't know how wrong they are! He has a secret dark side too his life that he must keep secret at all costs !
This is a brilliant 'gang lands' book , it has action , suspense, slimey characters and keeps you on your toes throughout. The characters are very well described and even though you may not like Nick you want to read more about him. Another great read by this talented author!
Diamond geezer by Gillian Godden. Diamond by name… Handsome, wealthy and successful, lawyer Nick Diamond is a man who commands and expects respect from everyone he meets. People think he is a man to be trusted. They are wrong. Deadly by nature. Because away from his glittering life in upper-class Chelsea, Nick is keeping a dark and dangerous secret. One that takes him to the slum estates of Glasgow and a very different world. Nick will do anything to keep his secret under wraps, because if it’s ever revealed it would be his downfall. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Great story and characters. I wasn't sure how I felt about Nick. I hope there is more to come. 5*.

Once again this author has done an amazing job with her latest gangland crime thriller. This one was so addictive that I read it in one sitting, it then took me several hours to digest the finale! Definitely did not see that coming!
Diamond Geezer is a story that has a rather large mystery to it. Set in Glasgow on a run-down estate where gangs rule and drugs are rife. There are gangs trying to encroach onto one particular area, it is controlled by The Undertaker. No one knows who he or she is, but they know that you don't mess with this person or you will end up dead.
The author has woven together with a few threads and gradually led me on a journey up and down the country, but with the main focus being on Glasgow and the residents on the estate. The synopsis did a brilliant job of setting the scene, but to be honest I didn't read it until I started writing this review. Yes, I have read several of this author's books and I will automatically read them.
I really liked how the author set up the characters in Glasgow, while they are all individuals and look out for themselves, there is a sense of community spirit and also of respect. The intriguing premise of who The Undertaker is, how his businesses are run and the day to day management is well laid out.
There is a sense of danger on this estate, but also of people looking out for each other. With rival gangs around, there is going to be trouble, yes there will be murder and there will be something unexpected.
This was a brilliant book and I think it is my favourite to date. The author wove a story of family, secrets, crime, suspicion and a huge amount of intrigue. This was such a great read and one that had me hooked and then the final couple of chapters... speechless... in a good way!
This is a dark gangland crime thriller with many surprises, some shocks and also a sense of community. Brilliant reading and one I would definitely recommend.
Gillian Godden certainly knows how to spin a twisted and terrifying yarn that will have readers jumping out of their skin and she is on superb form with her latest gangland thriller, Diamond Geezer.
Nick Diamond is a man with the Midas touch. Handsome, wealthy and successful, the charismatic lawyer seems to have the world at his feet. Admired, envied and feared in equal measure, Nick is a man who commands and demands respect from every single person he meets. Intelligent, shrewd and somebody who is at the very top of his profession, Nick certainly has no problem attracting clients – who are willing to pay top dollar to secure his services. His clients trust him with their lives, but Nick Diamond is the very last man anyone should trust because the Chelsea address, designer suits and charming smile belie the darkness within…
Nick is a man with a dark and twisted secret. A secret which would horrify his friends and neighbours in West London. Nick has another life in the slums of Glasgow that is far removed from the one he leads in Chelsea. He will do whatever it takes and go to any lengths to ensure that nobody ever discovers his secret. If anyone ever discovers the truth about his Glaswegian life, the consequences simply do not bear thinking about. But Nick is about to learn that running from the truth is simply impossible and that everything he’s suppressed and hidden is about to come rushing to the fore…
Gillian Godden pens chilling gangland thrillers that are impossible to put down and in Diamond Geezer she proves that she is at the top of her game. Creepy, terrifying and heart-stopping, Diamond Geezer is a gripping tale of secrets, vengeance and power full of twists and turns that will leave readers reeling.
Gillian Godden’s Diamond Geezer is an action-packed gangland thriller that will leave readers wanting more.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A fast paced, action packed book which kept me engrossed and turning the pages, eager to see where the story took me next. A complex web of interwoven back stories aid in adding depth to the characters while moving the story forward and developing the gangland world in which the characters exist.
Godden expertly builds the diametrically opposing worlds of the lavish millionaire lifestyle of the criminal lawyer and the Glasgow slums, cleverly highlighting the black and white differences before smashing both together in a roller-coaster of crime and deceit. The story is heightened with sub-plots of people trying to escape hardship and the underworld whilst becoming more embroiled in the deepening plot line.
I both loved and hated Nick, and not just because of his name; on one hand he appears the ideal man with the perfect life and noble intent but beneath the surface lies a dark side whose boundaries know no end. I really enjoyed the unexpected surprises as plot lines opened and the story progresses although a very minor criticism is that the book seemed to end too quickly, with plot lines rapidly closed down, just as it was getting really juicy. That said, at no point was I bored - the pace of the narrative was just right to keep my attention whilst I whiled away the hours.

Gillian has been on my radar since I first started reviewing, but this is the first book I have read. I have read two gangland thrillers in quick succession now - I should point out that this a new genre to me. This was definitely an addictive read, I read over 40% during my lunch break and then spent th4e afternoon wanting to get back to the book.
This book has it all - suspense, passion, drama. A well-written book and has definitely highlighted that I should give some of Gillian's other books a read.
Well would you believe it? Gillian Godden has gone and done it again! A whopper of a Gangland based thriller. It’s a fabulously fast paced read that totally has you on the edge of your seat. As ever with Gillian’s books, the characters are super strong. Some you like, some you really wouldn’t want to bump into. There are secrets abound, mistrust and even great comedic moments especially with Nick’s nan. I think this is why I loved this book. It’s not all doom and gloom, violence and anger. You really get to worm your way into each characters flaws and they become more realistic because of this.
What more do you need to know? Not much. Read the blurb, be ready for a book that you won’t want to put down. Characters you’ll love to hate. Drama with a shocking beginning, full of suspense and action packed. Shall I stop now? yep I think you get the picture, An all round awesome and gripping Thriller.
Gillian Godden has done it again - Another breathtaking, raw, gangland thriller that had me gripped till the very end!
I am writing my review at midnight, as I was unable to sleep without finishing and finding out how it was all going to end! A feisty, compelling story, introducing the reader to a new character Nick Diamond, who I have definitely taken a liking to, despite his dishonorable way of life.
The atmosphere is chilling, tense, and dramatic throughout, and the suspense that this author creates is becoming signature work for her. She has quickly become one of my favorite authors of this genre. The writing style is remarkable and flawless.
Definitely worth the read if dark, violent, crime thrillers are your thing! Loved it!
Thank you to Laura from Boldwood Books, for a gifted copy of this, in exchange for an honest and voluntary review. All opinions are my own.
Diamond Geezer by Gillian Godden is a fast-paced, gangland thriller that definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. This is not my first read from Gillian Godden, and I really enjoy her writing style. She knows how to write engaging and compelling stories that make you want to keep reading rather than setting the book down.
I really liked the characters. They were well-developed and there were a few I wouldn’t want to cross paths with. I love when I forget I’m reading fictional characters because they feel so realistic and that was the case here.
The twists and turns had me constantly second guessing what I thought the answers were. I absolutely loved Diamond Geezer. I highly recommend giving this one a read.

Diamond Geezer is my first book from Gillian Godden and what a fantastic introduction to her work! A new series, I sped through this one as I became caught up in the story and its cast of fabulous characters good and bad!
The plot was interesting and held my attention, Its setting in an estate in Glasgow ruled by a mysterious character known as “The Undertaker” showcases the darker side of it with its gangs and drugs. Godden paints a realistic picture of upper and lower class and how they come together swirled in crime, secrets, lies and deceit.
Diamond Gezzer is such and entertaining and enjoyable read. The twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat and its outcome, WOW! Godden sure does knows how to pack a punch and I need the next book stat! Fingers crossed that the wait won’t be too long.
The first half was of this book showed so much promise. About half way though it as if someone else finished the story. Suddenly it’s like a Danielle Steele novel. Gratuitous sex scenes, the plot seems to simply be an afterthought. The genius mastermind becomes astonishingly careless and irrational. And all sorts and of loose ends and unlikely coincidences seem to be written in as if they’re even remotely realistic. And then over the last 30 pages and really dumb finish is squashed in as if the author were forced to finish writing the novel quicker than a school kid trying to finish his detention.
It’s a real shame, since the first half really felt like it was building a very smart story
This was the first book I’ve read by Gillian Godden and I really enjoyed it. Nick Diamond is a very wealthy lawyer who lives a privileged life in London. His nan lives in a deprived estate in Glasgow but her friends and community are there and she loves it and won’t leave. The estate is controlled by a gang leader known only as The Undertaker. He gives the orders and no-one dares disobey. I found the book exciting and pacey, often violent but that was crucial to the plot. The description of life on the estate and how people ended up in debt to the gang was gritty and realistic. There were some great characters. Thanks to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for the ARC.
I have loved reading this book about the people who live on an estate in Scotland that is ruled over by someone they call the Undertaker. Some of the residents really get to you and as you read it you try to work out who this undertaker is.This is a well written book and so different from the authors books I can't say much more as it would spoil the book for others but i will say the ending shocked me as i never expected it what a twist that was.EXCELLENT book 5*
I really enjoyed this book. It was a great story, easy to follow, with some interesting characters.
Crime was the name of the game and it came in bucketfuls.
Split between wealthy Chelsea and the slums of Scotland. the story sails along pulling the reader in further and further with its twists and turns until the shock end. Very well written and worth a read.
Having read all of Gillian Goddens books and loving every one of them, was excited to be able to review this new book. Started off abit slow for me but it picked up strongly and all came together to make a great gangland thriller. At the end I wanted more.Well written and another hit for a brilliant writer who delivers every time. Thanks to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for the ARC.
Thanks for allowing me to read this Arc. Absolutely brilliant and the most unforgettable ever!!! My heart always beats faster in anticipation when I get a new Gillian Godden book and it doesn't stop until I have finished it!! I read this one in just two sittings. Pity I had to go to work!!!! I've read all of her books and I think this was my favorite!! Please Gillian hurry with the next one.
This is a really good read for lovers of gangster thrillers. It is well written, has a believable plot and is filled with interesting and varied characters. It started off slow but the pace soon picked up and it very quickly escalated to an action packed read with an unexpected twist at the end. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.
Nick Diamond has it all - good looks, wealth, status and a dark secret. His is a story that keeps you on the edge of your seat as it moves seamlessly between his posh life in Chelsea and the slums of Glasgow, With intrigue, suspense, passion and murder, Diamond Geezer has all the makings of a Hollywood movie.
