When Emma and Aidan decide to expand The Guesthouse at Lobster Bay by merging their two homes, Emma feels certain it's the project she needs to develop her flourishing retreat, and to keep her and Aidan together.
Emma has three months to complete the project before her guests arrive for a sumptuous Christmas in Lobster Bay, but as soon as the work begins, Emma's dream of expansion begins to fall apart...
Unforeseen structural problems, the arrival of a long-term guest, and an errant puppy, who is determined to chew her way through every piece of pipe and furniture, push Emma and Aidan to their limit, and it's not long before cracks begin to show in their relationship.
Determined not to give up, Emma pushes on. But as the project progresses tensions continue to rise, and when a winter storm blows in, work grinds to a halt, pushing Emma and Aidan to the brink.
As Emma battles to keep her dream alive, will it be at the expense of her relationship? And will she eventually, with the help of some of her friends, pull off her dream of Christmas at Lobster Bay?
Thanks to netgalley for the advanced ebook to review. It was lovely to return to Lobster Bay, catch up with the great characters the first book gave us, and introducing us to a couple more! An enjoyable festive read.
Disclaimer: I was kindly gifted a copy of this book by @jonathanballpublishers in exchange for an honest review.
This is the second book in the Lobster Bay series which follows straight on from the first; however, it can definitely be read as a stand-alone. The focus is placed on our MC, Emma who runs the Lobster Bay guesthouse in a beautiful Scottish seaside village. However, Emma is starting to feel bored in her life and is in desperate need of a challenge. An idea is sprung at her to expand the guesthouse into the neighbouring house ~ which also happens to be the house she is living in with her boyfriend and boyfriends sister. This house has huge symbolism for them as their parents lived there when they were both alive. However, Emma is met with a number of challenges along the way both with the building development, her relationship with her boyfriend as well as her relationships with her friends. She has four months to complete this project in time for Christmas, can she actually do it?
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, especially due to the fact that it was both character and plot driven. The book setting was beautiful and it has made me want to book a ticket to Scotland immediately! I also really enjoyed the fact that we were able to see what was occurring amongst the various characters lives ~ whether they were MC’s or side characters. I am sure that this book can be very relatable to a number of people with the daily struggles they face, and I enjoyed seeing how each of the characters were able to learn from their mistakes and come out stronger in the end.
This was definitely a heartwarming read which was absolutely perfect for the Christmas season.

It is always a sheer pleasure when I'm able to sit and read two books in a series back to back, and in about a day each, which was the case with The Guesthouse at Lobster Bay (book 1) and Christmas at Lobster Bay.
Set about 18 months after the end of the first book, this can easily work as a standalone, and I was delighted to be back with Emma, Aiden and Wilbur.
Emma though is starting to feel the need for a new challenge but given the way everything progressed she and I both wondered if she had bitten off more than she could cope with , between expanding the guest house, planning an epic 3 day Christmas break for her guests, and somehow being persuaded to take on a puppy too.
Add in Rhona being pregnant but having relationship issues, her eldest daughter clearly hiding things, the new lodger in the guest house perhaps being better looking and more available to Emma than Aiden is, and literally nothing running smoothly and this is an action packed book that I couldn't get enough of.
There are moments of high drama, trips to the emergency room for various things, being on the verge of tears and one rather touching and emotional point, not to mention cutting comments from Emma's sister who I really dislike, and some "interesting" decisions being made.
And the discussions about the menus between Emma, and Peggy are fabulous, as Emma wants things modernised while Peggy seems stuck in the 80s with her taste in food, and her bafflement over slightly more modern cuisines and presentations!
This is action packed, and completely addictive to read, I was loving it whenever I was between the pages and back in Lobster Bay with all the regulars, plus a couple of new faces. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and really hope it isn't the last we see of these characters and location.
Thank you to Welbeck and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily,
Ngl it was a solid three for me, I was expecting to feel more wowed by my first Christmas book of the year but it just felt a little flat.
Also putting a doggy at risk (even if fictional) isn't okay and I did not agree with how lightly it was all glossed over. The main character Emma didn't actually seem to have any redeeming qualities and the amount of emergencies that happen in this village in such space of time is almost comical!
Welcome back to the picturesque Scottish sea-side resort of Lobster Bay! Christmas at Lobster Bay begins some months after the events in book one, The Guesthouse at Lobster Bay, in which Emma decided to leave her life in London behind and pursue her dream of running a guest house in the tiny Scottish resort of Lobster Bay, finding love, friendship, and the community spirit she was looking for to make her whole again.
Emma has made a great success of her guesthouse venture, and things are now running smoothly with her faithful team around her, including her boyfriend Aiden, but instead of feeling content with her lot she finds herself a bit restless. Aiden is baffled by Emma's need for something more, but when they decide to expand the guesthouse to incorporate his house next door it seems the perfect project to give Emma the challenge she is looking for.
However, things soon become a bit more a challenge than Emma had in mind, when the project runs into trouble that could spell disaster for all Emma's plans... and her future with Aiden. As structural issues, an errant puppy, and relationship and friendship complications all add to the mounting toll of problems, Emma begins to wonder if uprooting her life and moving to Lobster Bay was the right thing to do. Can she get her dreams back on track?
I absolutely loved the first book in this series and could not wait to meet up with the Lobster Bay gang once again in this fabulous second instalment of Emma's story. Things are going well for Emma on the guesthouse, relationship and friendship front, but fate decides to throw a huge spanner in all the works when Emma's restlessness leads her to take on a project that almost spells disaster for her dream of happily ever after in Lobster Bay. There are laughs and tears a-plenty in this story as the mishaps and misunderstandings serve to tie all the threads together into a knot that is seems impossible to unpick, but of course, as in all the best rom-coms everything sorts itself out in one gorgeous heart-warming ending that is all the better for being in such a wonderful setting at Christmas time.
All my favourite characters are here again, and there are also some new faces to mix things up nicely and give the fabulous narrator Eilidh Beaton a challenge on the regional accent front, which she pulls off in the accomplished way that makes her one of my favourite voice actors: her storytelling held me spellbound from beginning to end, evoking all the feels as she told Annie Robertson's lovely tale of what comes with trying to balance all sides of life and recognising when everything you need has been right there in front of you the whole time.
I just love the way Robertson manages to deliver a tale about friendship, family, and love, with such a lovely cast of characters of all ages coping with the pressures that come with modern life, bringing in issues around mental health, communication, coping with loss, managing expectation, and overcoming family trauma in a way that makes them engaging and relatable. I am not ashamed to say that much sobbing, of the happy and sad variety, happened while I listened to this audio book, and I loved every teary minute.
I have my fingers crossed that Robertson will decide to pay a visit to Lobster Bay again in the future, because my heart lies firmly in that little Scottish sea-side town with all its human, and animal, residents.
This is book #2 in the Lobster Bay series, and this book follows straight on from the previous one. I have to admit that I haven’t read the first book, and I did find some of the storyline a little tricky to understand as it referred to things which had happened in that book. It was however, a delightful little read based in a beautiful Scottish seaside village. Emma runs the Lobster Bay guesthouse and, in need of a new challenge, she decides to expand into the neighbouring house (and the one she lives in!) to make the guesthouse even bigger. I really liked Emma’s character and took to her right from the very beginning. She has a beautiful guest house and is definitely somewhere I would love to visit. She also has a great group of friends who I really liked, especially Peggy who did make me laugh!
Once I got used to who was who, who was with who and who’d been with who, the story flowed along at a lovely pace. The storyline of whether Emma would get the guest house ready for visitors by Christmas was lovely and left me wondering throughout if she could really pull off such a huge renovation project! There are lots of little side stories, not just for Emma, but for some of the other characters and these all slotted into each other perfectly! I have to admit to not liking Emma’s boyfriend, Aiden throughout most of the book, but did warm to him by the end.
This was such a sweet romantic read and is so festive it will get you well and truly in the mood for Christmas. Filled with likeable characters, beautiful scenery and lots of life’s dramas, this is a lovely book for a cold wintery afternoon! I’ll definitely be reading the first book in the series, so I can fill in the background of everyone in Lobster Bay!
I would just like to say a big thank you to NetGalley for very kindly forwarding me an arc copy of this book, for my Kindle, in return for my honest review.
Christmas At Lobster Bay was a great, Christmassy read and was full of festive vibes and I thoroughly enjoyed it. This is actually the second book in the series and follows on from where book one left off. It can also be read as a stand alone with no problems at all. Lobster Bay was a beautiful, wonderful place and I loved reading all about it and it made me want to visit there. I loved all the characters and getting to know them all. We not only get the main characters stories but but the supporting characters too. This was a perfect, heartwarming, Christmassy read…..
Emma decides to expand her guesthouse in time for Christmas but is faced with one problem after another.
This book is part of a series- I haven't read the other books and didn't realise when I bought it. What happened in the other book/s was mentioned a few times and I would have liked to have read it first.
The book was OK, a light holiday read, it seemed that everything that could go wrong did and I felt that and the arrival of the baby a little unrealistic. Still enjoyed it as a feel good Christmas read.
Christmas at Lobster Bay is the second book in this series, however I read it as a stand-alone winter read.
Lobster Bay is an idyllic Setting especially in the Winter and the Guesthouse sounds so lovely. I would absolutely love to live in a place with such a friendly community.
I did feel sorry for Emma as she was really battling through so much in this story and had the weight of the world on her shoulders!
This was a nice Christmassy Read and I would definitely read more from this Author.
If you're looking for a cute holiday read, look no further. This story is focused on the madness that comes in the build up to Christmas Day at The Guest House in Lobster Bay.
The story is fast paced, and certainly has a lot going on. At times things did feel fragmented, and as though some scenes were added just to add bulk to the story. Overall, this story is exactly what you think it would be. A Christmastime story about friendship in a small town.
Lovely lovely Christmas book. Very festive read set by the coast. I hadn’t read the first book on the series and didn’t feel like I had missed out on anything. I loved reading about Emma although I did feel her boyfriend Aiden needed a bit of a slap to wake up and stop being so beige and selfish. I would have been so cross and very very passive aggressive with him.
I like the cover of this book! This was a clean romance. Here, actually, the focus was more on community and friends than on the romance part. And I liked it.
The first half of the book wasn't very exciting. A slow-paced book, I felt like nothing much happened at the beginning. Characters indulged in a lot of ordinary chit-chat and it bored me sometimes.
The second half of the book was more exciting, when things started happening. Accidents happened and it was really a hassle for the characters. The teenagers did something that reminded me of my own teenage years.
Emma and Aidan's relationship is put to the test. Other people encounter rocky patches in their relationships as well. Some part of the book is set in autumn. They are preparing for Christmas so Christmas is still the core theme.
I liked the community portrayed in this book. The people were nice, friendly, and supportive towards each other; they had a great community.
A definite feel good, Christmas story. Life is never straight forward, friendships, relationships and a bit of the daily grind thrown into the mix. This story captures all of these things but with a sprinkle of Christmas magic, a wonderful happy story is created.
Lobster Bay is preparing for Christmas. But Emma is getting restless.
The Guesthouse is doing well amd Emma and Aiden are now a well-established couple in the community. But with all of the excitement of setting up a new a new business and creating a special experience for her guests wearing off, Emma is starting to get itchy feet. Is Lobster Bay just a bit too small?
A new project is what she needs to focus on and before you know it they’re expanding the Guesthouse and planning for an amazing Christmas extravaganza.
But before they get to Christmas, there are building problems, crazy puppies, flirtations and romances, troubled teens and a Christmas cake disaster to contend with.
I love the community that the writer has created for Lobster Bay. Lots of favourites from the first book are back, with some new additions as the world of Lobster Bay expands.
Emma and Aidan really struggle to communicate at points in this. They can both be quite stubborn and are used to dealing with their emotions by themselves. They grow as a couple and realise that they need to talk to each other if they are going to make their relationship work.
There are some really fun and heartwarming moments in this book which is filled love, friendship festive fun. This is one of those fictional creations that I would love to visit.
A belated thank you to Jonathan Ball Publishers for this review copy. I had to read at least one Christmas book and I started this one just before Christmas – apologies for being a little late with posting this review. This is a feel-good, relaxing read that highlights the importance of honesty in relationships while featuring some adorable fur babies. I enjoyed the author's easy storytelling style. The dialogue felt a little forced at times and did not have a smooth feel to it, yet the scenery was brilliant and the story had an everyday-life feel to it. Emma has everything she wants. A beautiful, successful guesthouse, a caring group of friends and a caring boyfriend. But still, she feels as if she needs more. She questions if it is enough. Her need to do more leads to Emma and Aidan expanding the guesthouse, this project seems to be exactly what Emma needs. However, when Aiden has to leave town, she finds that perhaps she has taken on a little too much. This book is a feel-good read that transports you into the characters' lives and allows you an escape to a small town as you flip the pages. While this is not my genre of choice I enjoy adding something a little different to the end of my reading year. The characters are everyday people, all with their own issues and desires. I enjoyed the way you felt like a part of this group of friends as you read the book, getting to know them and sharing their lives. This book will appeal to fans of women’s fiction, it’s an easy read that draws you into the community as you share in the chaos of expanding a guesthouse and everyday little disasters. https://featzreviews.com/christmas-at...
