The Reunion
Hotel Lilith holds terrible memories for Cait Du Bois.

I have a feeling that I can find a title from this author that I will really enjoy, BUT this wasn't it.

If you are dumb enough to go to a hotel that has such horrible memories from your high school years, why are you still staying?!! You think someone is stalking you? CHECKOUT, GO HOME, FEEL SAFE!
Cait Du Bois was an annoying protagonist and her "teenager" chapters were so boring, I wanted to skim most of them. A lot of drama, mean girls via the high school group "The Populars" and I just felt like, "who cares". If I had known about the high school romance + angst, I would have skipped.
At one point, the police hand over evidence to Cait (wait, what)? Does this ever happen? Okay, I'm finished. Too many silly scenarios + YA drama and NOT thrilling.
I bought this one and I also have The Arrangement from her. I'll give her another chance, fingers crossed!!

Good, solidly engaging mystery from the queen of twists.
I discovered Kiersten Modglin's books this past year and have enjoyed many of them, some of them not as much. The one thing I can say about all of them though, is that they are very inventive, twisty thrillers.
This book features Cait a bestselling author married to Grant. They both attended high school together, but due to sitter issues, Grant agrees to stay home with their twins while Cait attends their ten year high school reunion. Unfortunately, the reunion is being held at Hotel Lilith, the scene of their senior prom and the worst night of Cait's life. She runs into Sam, her high school best friend (and former boyfriend) and the two pick up their friendship where they left off. When a fan seems to be stalking Cait she starts to become afraid, and she and Sam are both worried that what happened in high school is coming back to haunt them again.
This book is told from two timelines--when the group was in high school and the present day. This is a straightforward mystery with some great twists that I didn't see coming, yet also they are pretty believable in a very wild way. You know that people are hiding things, but you don't know who exactly and even if you get an idea, you certainly won't guess what they are hiding.
There are some very astute observations about bullying and some uncomfortable content in that regard. It's very realistic and goes on to show that "mean girls" can manifest in many different ways, depending on who is interpreting the behavior.
Overall this is one of my favorite offerings by Modglin. I listened to it as an audiobook narrated by Meg Price. Although she gets a bit whispery at times, the narration is good and kept me invested in the story. I couldn't stop listening and devoured this book in less than a day. I can't wait to see what this author comes up with next.

The only thing ‘thrilling’ about this… is that it’s finally over!
It’s very, very rarely that I dislike a novel from the first to last page. Being trapped in Cait’s head was torture. Never seen a character contemplate decisions for so long only to make the worst possible choice time after time. I found myself saying ‘For the love of God… JUST LEAVE!’ throughout the present day storyline. Seriously, the resolution was that easy.
This was 95% teenage-ish soap opera & 5% thrill and by the time the ‘twist’ was finally revealed I, honestly, wanted to jump through the pages and hurt this woman myself for her sheer stupidity.
I think I may have liked this a little bit better in print version rather than audio. I found that the overly dramatic dialogue was only made worse by the narration. All in all, this was a total flop for me and I’m having a hard time understanding the high ratings. Only 2 stars from me & that’s being generous.

A fun and suspenseful audiobook!
Let it be said that the prolific and juicy writer Kiersten Modglin is not only great at suspense, but also at fantasy wish fulfillment. Here we have a story about a beautiful yet modest girl who was sought after by the two hottest guys in her high school, and by the time she returns for her reunion, she is a successful and highly recognizable-in-person author. (Does anyone really recognize authors in person? To her credit, Modglin realizes this and makes a little joke about it.) So yes, a pretty great life. Wouldn’t we all like that to be us? It’s not hard to see the author indulged a personal fantasy here, which is maybe why it works so well and is so fun.
So yeah, Kiersten - er, I mean, her narrator, Cait - appears to have a dream life as a famous author with a hot husband. But we soon learn that a tragic murder struck her high school at a hotel on prom night. Now the reunion is being held at the same location and Cait has a stalker who knows things it seems only the murder victim would know. Complicating matters is the appearance of hot ex-boyfriend number 2 while boyfriend number one (now her husband) is at home with the kids.
I was hooked on this audiobook from the start and really enjoyed the suspenseful, juicy narration and fast-moving plot. This is an addictive popcorn suspense book with fun twists and turns, lots of great suspects and red herrings, and a great plot. I was a wee bit disappointed by the ending, which I was hoping would be as messy and scandalous as the author’s previous work The Arrangement (still my favorite by Modglin!). I saw potential for a couple very shocking endings that the author waved in front of the readers to tantalize us. It wasn’t all that scandalous of an ending ultimately, but was still good and a surprise. I also wasn’t in love with the occasional diversion into bodice-ripper territory but I know other readers like this, and it didn’t happen too often so I was still caught up in the story.
All in all a very fun, easy listen — a very good and scary suspense thriller. I’m excited to keep reading more by Modglin. All her books are solid but I’m still waiting for another total excursion into crazytown like The Arrangement. Until then, though, I am really enjoying watching this author grow and explore many different creative and suspenseful thriller plots. Modglin is always fun, always engrossing and always here for you with the twists! Recommended for all suspense and audiobook fans.

Cait Du Bois is attending her high school reunion at Hotel Lilith, the same place her senior prom was held. Prom should have been a fun night, but for Cait, it was a nightmare. But she has moved on and is now a happily married woman and a bestselling author with a large fan base.
Attending her high school reunion should be fun, but it’s not panning out to be that way. She is attending the reunion alone. Her husband, Grant who attended the same high school agreed to stay home and watch their young twins.
But being back, is not the walk down memory lane that she thought it would be. Hotel Lilith comes with baggage and painful memories. The walls at the hotel seem to have eyes. Someone knows what happened all those years ago. Someone who will stop at nothing to remind her of that night. To torment her, to shock her, to ruin her reunion.
Cait is sent a mysterious package, receives threatening texts, and strange phone calls. The only light at the end of this dark tunnel is seeing her high school boyfriend, Sam again. Maybe the two of them can figure out who and why is behind the threats. Is this the work of a stalker or is this related to that horrible night?
This was a whodunit of sorts. As the narration progressed, I was eager to learn what happened on prom night. Plus, I was intrigued to learn who has tormenting Cait. What were the motives? The book moved at a nice pace, and I enjoyed it; although, it was not my favorite by this author. There is a nice twist and reveal which was a little bit of a shocker for me.
Most are enjoying this book more than I did and I encourage you to read their reviews as well.

The Reunion is a little slow to start, but picks up around the halfway point. Haunted by the past, Cait reluctantly attends her high school reunion. Ironically, it’s at the same location as one of the most tragic moments of her life. Shortly after arriving at Hotel Lilith strange things start to occur. Truths from the past are threatening to be revealed and past sorrows are bubbling to the surface. The final twist was unexpected and satisfying. I was totally hooked as the plot unfolded. The narration added an extra layer of intrigue and suspense. Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for my audiobook. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wow, this book blew me away. The Reunion by Kiersten Modglin was everything I needed and more from a thriller book. Not once was I ever bored when reading this story. I actually could not read it fast enough! I wish I could have sat down and spent my whole day reading this book! It consumed me. Whenever I wasn’t able to read it I was definitely thinking about it or talking about it with @tea_pastry_and_pages. I had a blast trying to figure out what was actually happening and coming up with theories of my own. I am glad to say the ending did not disappoint.
I’m not going to do a full review because this book speaks for itself. Just read it and I promise you will not be let down. All you need to know is the characters are well written, the plot is fantastic, and the pacing was on point. Honestly, this book would make a great movie!

I have enjoyed all of Kiersten Modglin’s twisty thrillers I have read so far and this one was not an exception. I was especially excited and I really loved the dual timelines. I listened to the audiobook for this one and overall I felt the narration was good. Like an 80’s horror movie there were times I wanted to yell at Cait to leave the hotel or to run, but I feel like that is part of what makes this genre so fun. Cait is back in town for her high school reunion while her husband stays home with the kids. Cait has a lot of unresolved issues from the typical mean girl exclusion and drama to her best friend being murdered in the same hotel they are having the reunion. Someone is tired of all the secrets and begins to bring the things to light that Cait thought were dead and buried. I didn’t always love Cait’s character, but I could relate to her at times (and other times she baffled me) but I did find her well developed. The other characters weren’t quite as well developed as I would have liked.

Welp, that was painful much like attending my husband’s HS reunion. I’m not sure why I keep giving this author chance after chance only to end up irritated.
*SPOILER *
Let’s jump straight to the ending… that conclusion felt so rushed! As though KM realized she had to wrap things up and fast! So she pulls Penny out from the past… “ who the heck was Penny???” She had such a minor role . That entire scene did not make sense. Why would she hate Cait , it did not keep in line with the rest of the book… but whatever, because, as I said I really felt as though that was used at the very last second.
And what can we say about how Cait comes up with the name of her very own book 😐 weak, weak, weak ending. So cheesy , I was looking for the tomato soup to dip my grill cheese in. In fact, that would have been a much better way to spend my time… with a different book.

True to her form, Kiersten Modglin delivers another fast-paced tantalizing thriller in The Reunion.
Going back to a small town to your 10th high school reunion is always a bit nerve racking. However, when you were an outsider and taunted by “the populars” it becomes terrifying.
Why does Cait even want to go back and relive those memories? She is now a well known author, however, something tragic happened ten years ago. Is Cait to blame for what happened or is Cait now in danger and from whom?

There’s something about a book with a character that has to go back to a place or time in their life that is dark that never fails to reel me in and the idea of a high school reunion with some dark secrets was too good for me to pass up. You know right away that Cait is apprehensive about her reunion, but you don’t know why and that’s slowly revealed over the course of the book in chapters set during her high school years. There were lots of mini cliffhangers at the end of chapters, both the present and past ones and that style really kept me glued to my kindle as I was dying to see what would happen next in both timelines. Another super fun and addictive read from one of my go to binge worthy thriller authors, KMod always entertains me!

Almost 40% in and nothing has actually happened.... I mean things have happened it’s told from a dual timeline of high school and the present but the mystery or thriller that’s promised? I can’t find it basically this is just a drama about an insecure woman who has a nice life now and wants to throw it in the faces of her high school bullies at their 10 year reunion but because she’s still insecure things don’t really go the way she planned.
There’s a whole build up about something that clearly happened to someone back in high school that occurred in the same hotel the reunion is occurring in.
Nothing even remotely weird even happens until like Chapter 19
Thriller mystery this is not... fast paced or a quick listen/read it is not... it’s 10 hours of Cait’s own personal drama as a teenager and as an adult both of whom could have benefited from therapy . Honestly reading the other reviews for this makes me feel like I’m crazy because I feel like Im not listening to the same book. I prefer audiobooks when I have the actual book too so I can skim ahead of things get boring or tedious. Unfortunately I’m listening to this audiobook arc a week before the ebook comes out so I’m suffering through it. The story isn’t bad it’s not even boring it’s just unnecessarily long at least half of this could have been cut out. Cait is kind of annoying. And really did she not know you can just make friends with other people in high school there’s no reason you have to stay chained to a specific friend group forever. Another thing that bothered me about her is that um you so kinda need to figure out your plans I don’t know before you graduate from high school not wait till like the last few weeks to decide.
77% in is when things finally decide to actually get mildly interesting in the past and in the present.
I feel like Cait wants to die or something because why if somebody is engaging in threatening behavior towards you would you stay in this place? What’s the point? You don’t care about this town or these people and it’s not actually protecting your family.
And the twist? Couldn’t roll my eyes hard enough after suffering through all of this only to end up here. Um high school does end you do become an adult you don’t have to act this way forever. Cait is very annoying and the worse judge of character and clearly everyone she went to high school with was insane. In fact sadly I didn’t like her and she clearly had issues but she was one of the saner ones.
All in all Cait is painfully stupid (especially at the end) this book is painfully tediously long and this is the last book I’ll be reading/listening to from this author. But the narration was perfect.
There’s a whole build up about something that clearly happened to someone back in high school that occurred in the same hotel the reunion is occurring in.

Despite reservations about returning to her hometown and attending her high school reunion at the Hotel Lilith, Cait decides to show up and show out. She's no longer the insecure nerd she was in high school. She's now a famous writer and wants to show off all that success, especially to "the populars."
This is a classic case of pride cometh before the fall.
Because someone is still upset about the events of the past and wants to make Cait pay.
I got a ton of new book for Christmas. What do I choose to read instead? A free book from Kindle Unlimited. Why? Because that is the power of Kiersten Modglin.
(All the books I actually received are sitting on my Kindle/bookshelves sad about it, but I digress).
Modglin's writing style really sucks you in and you know you're going to get a great twist at the end that you didn't see coming. This book is no exception. It's well crafted with a past/present narrative that kept me guessing until the end. Plus, I really liked Cait as a character. I enjoyed seeing her growth from high school into adulthood. I also appreciate her insecurities and shortcomings, which made her even more relatable and likable.

Once again, Kiersten Modglin writes another suspenseful who-dunnit book that others will love. It’s fast paced and I read it in a day.

Where do I begin?
1) We're totally supposed to forgive - and like? - the fact that Cait was dating her best friend from childhood in the high school storyline, but married to the guy her other best friend - the one who died - was with for over a year? I totally could've gotten onboard had their love affair started 2 years after graduation. Maybe when they came across each other, they could've bonded over Jamie. I realize that would've completely changed the motive for Jamie's killing, but that was incredibly weak anyway. I just couldn't make myself care about the current timeline in terms of her marriage.
2) I knew from the second she described 'Anna's' hair as "frizzy" that she was Penny with dyed hair given that Penny's hair was described as red, frizzy hair.
3) You expect us to believe that Sam WAS MARRIED TO PENNY but HIS FORMER BEST FRIEND HAD NO IDEA?! Come on! I don't care how estranged former friends become, there's NO WAY they don't know the other has gotten married.
4) Let me get this straight: Penny killed Jamie so Jamie wouldn't come between Grant and Cait (when it was already too late!!!) just so Penny could have Sam?! That just makes no sense. YOU'RE KILLING THE WRONG PERSON, DUMMY! What if killing Jamie actually brought Cait and Sam CLOSER together?! Jamie already broke Grant and Cait up. Writing that is making me angrier at the book than I already was. 😁
5) Since when was Penny 100 lbs overweight? It's possible I missed that description when Penny was introduced but that's a stupid way to try and explain why Cait hadn't recognized her.
6) You're a best-selling author. Your fellow alumni know this (much like there being no way Cait didn't know Sam was married, there's no way the whole class wasn't talking about the former murder suspect becoming an author!). Why bother going to the reunion?! AND WHY IS THE REUNION IN THE SAME HOTEL?! I realize it's a smaller town, but surely there's more than one.

4.5/5 I can’t get enough of Kiersten’s psychological thrillers. Cait Du Bois is an author of thrillers & married with twins. She goes back to her hometown for a high school reunion and spends most of her down time while there writing her next novel. However, once she starts running into her old classmates, old memories & an unsolved murder rise to the surface. The story has dual timelines, past & present. There’s tons of twists and secrets and drama! The narrator did an awesome job. Highly recommend! Available 1/18

Kiersten Modglin books should come with a warning label! Warning: Will Cause Lack Of Sleep! The Reunion was fantastic! I tried the "one more chapter" method but each chapter is like a mini cliffhanger, the suspense makes it very difficult to put down! The story is seamlessly told in 2 timeline. If you love a thriller that'll keep you guessing pick up your copy of The Reunion today!!

Another engaging who-dun-it from Kiersten Modglin. I have recently started diving in to this authors backlist and I have not been disappointed. This book is another one full of twists and turns that keeping you engaged the whole time.
The main character is Cait. You get multiple timelines that flop back and forth between the past and present. Cait goes back to her home town for her class reunion. From the beginning you know that she is dreading the return due to a terrible event that happened there on prom night ten years earlier.
The author does a great job of keeping you guessing. What happened on prom night so many years ago to her best friend and why does Cait have this six sense that something bad is going to happen again?
If you want a book that is full of dark drama, old secrets, and how the past can come back to haunt you then I highly recommend this one.

Kiersten Modglin is the Queen of twisty, complex thrillers and The Reunion didn't disappoint! All the eerie, peculiar vibes and I'm all here for it. I absolutely couldn't put this book down (I feel so redundant since I say that about every single one of her books but it's true!) and I was just dying to find out what happened. Of course, BOOM comes the big devious, twisty reveal that I've been living for! Highly recommend as always!
Bonus points for an EXCELLENT narration by Meg Price. Completely entrancing performance and made for an amazing listening experience!
