Nicole writes stories exploring concepts of surveillance and how it effects human behavior, colonization, AI, robots, and a bunch of other impossible but cool scenarios. She studied folklore in college and believes that the best parts of any story touch on these living, changing elements of culture.
Being the eighth book in the Holly Drake Job series, the reader will benefit from having read the previous books. In this one, we meet our favourite characters, both good and bad, in another action-adventure. This time, the team is given a task that has to be completed to avoid serious consequences. There are fight scenes, visits to clubs and a resurgence of Holly’s problem with her absent father, while in the background there is deceit and double-crossing. There is also a hint of romantic tension within the team.
The book has a satisfactory ending, but it’s clear that there is more to come.
Even though I came late to this series, I haven't read the previous jobs yet, this did not stop me enjoying this book immensely. The story is terrific. It is fast paced yet full of the details that really bring the action to life. There are also sufficient references to Holly Drake's backstory that ensure my having to read all the previous books. This really is that good. Nicole Grotepas is one author that you definitely have to read.
