*******I finished reading it******* So I did it. I ended up going back after seeing a goodreads buddy finish it. I got a lot of thoughts. I'm gonna compartmentalize as much as I can. The Good -Was intense. I never felt like it was dragging. I was watching the pages run out wondering what on earth was going to happen next. -Complex characters. A lot of work went into developing these characters. I can definitely feel the intensity of Eric's emotions and thoughts. He changed a lot in this. I didn't recognize who he was at the end, though I understood it.
The Okay - The last 40 pages or so felt like a rollercoaster going at 100mph. This may just be a personal preference thing but the speed at which things unraveled felt jarring to me. A lot was just sorta thrown out there. -Eric is a bit of a frustrating dumbass but I also feel like this is still keeping with his character which thus far has proven to be impulsive, selfish, suffering from ptsd, and delusional I'd be curious to know how the other characters view him, because I don't see personally what would be considered to be enthralling.
The Not So Good - There were typos and funky sentences. It could have used an editor or some beta readers. Lots of _'s everywhere too though I stopped seeing them after a while as I got into the story. - One continuity error, where - Some funky tense and point of view sentences. It's told from Eric's point of view, but occasionally there's some slip ups into a 3rd person narrative.
Thoughts: Overall, it was fairly decent. Plenty of mystery and intrigue.
***Edit*** So, unfortunately I'm having a hard time reading this current copy on Amazon. There's a LOT of typos and grammar problems. Lots of _'s for some reason too. I'm putting it on pause until hopefully, maybe, the author goes back to fix enough of those for me to be able to read. :) ***Edit***
In the one hand I think the story is intriguing and I would love to see what happens next. In the other, I had a hard time understanding the character's motives and emotions half of the time.
Although I think this author has a lot of potential, the fact of the matter is that they also have a lot of margin for improvement.
I really liked where the story and the characters were headed, but I couldn't help but be distracted by the writing and the technical mistakes on the book. I think it would have benefited from a few beta readers or an editor, because there are mistakes that could have easily been avoided.
That said, the story has potential and I know that with a little work the author is going to write promising books in the future.
We love to see it. Our boy Eric is back. Trying so hard to play The Game ™ with the fae. But how could a human even compete against such a superior species? They can't. So, Eric will become something else.
While Eric destroys the things that made him himself he must also struggle against the give and take he has had with his favorite fae prince. Back and forth they go until they've become so wrapped up in one another that they are one in the same.
❤️ As a primarily romance reader, I hoped to find some romance in this series, but ultimately, there is none.
It's straight-up 🅳🅰🆁🅺 🅵🅰🅽🆃🅰🆂🆈.
The first book's storyline was already steeped in shadow, but the second plunges even deeper—hard to believe, I know. I need dark tales to harbor at least a glimmer of hope, yet this one concludes without a flicker of light. 🚫🕯️💡
None of the characters are people I can root for. They're all terrible, IMHO. Avoid if you prefer "feel-good" novels or romance or happiness of any kind. 😥
I don't even know what's so good about this series. I was even sure I would be bored before 20% of the book (since I'm a truly moody reader) but nope I finished it till the end.
Now I know why Cithrel isn't some knight in shining armor for Eric because both of them are equal in the relationship. Equal in the level of scarred, traumatized, and unhinged.
I'm curious what next? Is Cithrel going to save Eric from the his revenge madness? Or what?
Looking back I often shy away from dark fantasy MM because they often have descriptive horknee and spicy thoughts of the MC even when it doesn't really contribute to the plot and I don't like it. This series has no such thing maybe that's why...? 🤔 💭 I don't even know.
Anyway, recommended read, still. Looking forward to the rest of the books in this series!
Just as good as the first book! I loved reading Eric’s rise to villainy and seeing him finally find the strength to protect himself. The library scenes continue to be fantastic and the evil, murderous book was so amazing to read. This second book pulls you right back into this world and Eric’s turn to the dark side is exactly what I had hoped for him. Now…If only Eric and Cithrel can find their way back to each other!!

I was pleasantly surprised by this book, if only because I found Eric's character arc in this one to be a lot of fun to read, and I enjoyed learning more about Cyprian (my poor little meow meow). There were still some formatting errors in the ebook and I think it could have used some more editing. One thing that stuck out to me was that male and female were used as nouns a lot and it sounded weird. But still I'm looking forward to seeing how this series ends
this was admittedly hard to get through due to the lack of finesse in the writing but the story was compelling enough for me to keep going. eric and cithrel are severely fucked up and i'm 100% here for it!!! who knew i'd enjoy a dark fantasy this much lmao this author certainly has a lot of potential so i'd love to see what she puts out next
This book brought me so much hoy seeing Eric come to terms with himself and stop giving a fuck. The character development was perfect. And Lu still holds my heart.
