What if dragons really existed, and a clutch of prehistoric eggs was found to be viable? Can a daughter of Zeus survive a war of wills with Hera and Aphrodite? Can someone cursed by the Zodiac ever have a normal life? What happens when the fairies come with offers beyond your wildest dreams? How can you survive a class where the instructor thinks you should already know all the answers? Can a team of magical girls put aside their differences when it really matters?
These pages answer these and other great questions. Sorensen finds very human stories to tell in this eclectic collection of short stories, novelettes, and poems. So, pull up your coziest blanket and favorite warm drink and enjoy these fantastical tales!
Dragon Soup for the Soul is a wonderful collection of short works by Emily Martha Sorensen. This volume brings together 22 of her previously published works, including poetry, standalone stories, and tales from shared settings. I suspect there are stories in this collection even her ardent fans have not read because of the wide array of what’s included.
This is the second book of the Legacy of the Corridor series published by Hemelein Publications. I received a copy of the book from the publisher for review purposes.
Dragon Soup for the Soul is a great example of the style of work Emily Martha Sorensen is known for. These are strongly written pieces with a moral underpinning. Even if the moral is not blatantly laid out by the end of the story it is part of the theme that runs from the beginning to the end. Sorensen’s stories can be read by anyone in the family. I don’t think a parent would need to concern themselves and need to read the stories first to see which ones are acceptable.
I recommend Dragon Soup for the Soul to readers who like young adult stories with strong female leads. Most of the stories are told from that perspective.
Well done, amusing short stories. The novellas were also well done, though they're not new, and a little too cutesy for my taste, still have to admit they're good stories...just I'm now old enough my tolerance for tween/teen is somewhat reduced. 3.5 stars
