The story as a whole felt a little shallow and rushed. The first few chapters are well written and we get a good idea of what Alexis’ everyday life looks like, but as soon as the 4 shifters bust her out of the prison/hospital she’s in, the relationship development just happens too fast, and there is no real plot. The MC is ordinary and quite boring even. She is described as a very special snowflake, but I did not feel that at all, honestly, she annoyed me half of the time.
Alexis almost instantly trusts the 4 hot and sexy guys that basically abducted her from the medical facility she’s been living in for the last 10 years or so. Granted, the “doctors” were using her in an illegal experiment without her knowing about it, but still, she just rolled with it and followed them. She quickly bonded with 3 of them because they were nice, sweet, and funny, but of course, the fourth one was the grumpy and acerb type who did not want her to tag along. But it’s okay because she got her special bonding moment with him and after that everything was fine between all five of them… 🙄
This whole book was really all focused on the romance and not on the plot, but even then, the romance was far from being satisfactory. I do love good RH series, but too often the romance part is too fast, it’s insta-trust and then almost insta-love and it just ruins it for me. I love it when it’s slower-burn, with sexual tension, and also when the characters have the time to get to know each other. I honestly just feel that their whole emotional connection happened way too fast over trivial things and it was not realistic for me. The lust and sexual attraction I get and I’m okay with, but the feelings and deep connection just appeared out of nowhere. The shortness of the book did not help because everything felt rushed and underdeveloped, and it also made it tough for us to get to know the characters. Besides the generic character traits such as: “the funny guy”, “the one who takes risks and makes silly decisions”, “the carting protector” and “the grumpy one”, the 4 males were quite shallow and bland.
The world-building is not bad, but not super impressive either. There are holes in the plot though and it did bother me. First of all, where does all the money they are using come from? They escaped from a facility very similar to the one Alexis has been living in, they have been on their own and on the run for 6 years, but they seem to have a shit-ton of money… At least enough to buy 5 sets of expensive fake IDs without batting an eye. Then there is the fact that even though they are on the run from a powerful and secret society that is hell-bent on killing the guys and getting Alexis back, they still decide to go out to a bar and drink. I get that she wants to experience “real life”, but the timing was not the best in my humble opinion. To me, it seems as if the author just wanted an excuse to get the MC tipsy, make her dance and get all sexy with the guys and get them to show their protective and possessive side. It was just a very convenient romantically-wise and very illogical plot-wise decision… There are other similar scenes where the decisions did not make much sense, but they were convenient to further the “romantic” aspect of the book or to add some wannabe sexual tension between Alexis and the guys.
So yeah, overall I am not impressed at all by this book and I will not continue with this series. It's my second try at reading a RH by this author and both times I was disappointed so I will continue looking for a well done and somewhat realistic RH to read to satisfy my RH craving somewhere else…
Ya know.. it wasn't that bad. Plus, it's a pretty quick read - heck, I've flown through the first two books already.
Wolf Hunted is a pretty interesting reverse harem book. Of course, we meet the guys in the middle part of this one (I think) but we don't know that much about them until the end. I will let you all know that we learn a bit more in the second book about them but mostly more about our MC, Alexis.
Now throughout most of this book, she's in her own little bubble living life in this sort of psych ward type place. Or maybe it's more like an experimental hospital. Anyhoo, you definitely get vibes that something isn't right in this place. No matter how happy she is and her hopes/dreams of beating this weird disease that she has.
Well, it sounded too good to be true and I'm pretty sure that disease is made up. Not even going to google it because right now.. I have questions that need answers. Since Alexis is a bit naïve to anything in the outside world because her mind is a bit fuzzy from before age 11 and she's lived within this place the entire time - so yeah, we all knew it was going to happen. So don't be surprised about it.
Besides all of the mystery behind her, you do get to meet her guys towards the end and they are also a mystery. We do learn that they are shifters and that she might even be one herself. It was also interesting to learn a little bit about the facility she was held in. I'm intrigued to see more of them or at least learn more about them in general.
All we really know is that she is special to them and they want her back. Especially with this whole cliffhanger. I'm down to dive into the next book because I just want more answers!
Apart from being too short, shallow and boring, it is mostly unbelievable!
There is a huge research facility with multiple compounds that is secretly bio-engineering werewolves. How is that possible? In today's world? On top of that, they have resources to manufacture and maintain a broad illusion for one person? Right! I don't think that was possible in stone ages, forget the 21st century.
Then, there is the whole money thing. The guys, who were themselves captives until they were nineteen, are suddenly rich enough to throw money around and buy guns, clothes, food, shelter, cars and false IDs with such relative ease. One day kidnapped victims require years of therapy, but the many-years isolated captives become perfectly normal functional and earning members of the society immediately! Because that makes total sense.
Oh, and let's not forget the highly organized werewolf society. The extremely experimented captives escape from their prison, not to go to authorities, but to rapidly form an organized, functional pack that hides from the said authorities? WHY?
Basically, the entire basis of the plot and the world-building was unbelievable and unpalatable. It might have been overlooked if the characters had any substance. But the trauma, the feelings, the romance - all feels obligatory and superficial.
In conclusion, the book feels hollow and this is the end of the road for me.
Awesome story, fantastic writing and I loved the characters! The book is a slow burn RH, but digs its claws into your heart from page 1. Love the mystery of who, and what, Alexis is and going along with her journey from captivity to freedom and her new experiences. Stating with moody and grumpy Rhys, playful Jackson, stoic West and sweet Noah. The book ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, but I think we’ll be seeing some great things in book 2!
Just didn't really care for this book, I seen the high reviews and was really trying to like it but it just seemed to be missing something, Maybe spark? It was kinda boring and i found myself flipping through hoping something exciting happened. I also found some moments to be a little ridiculous, how the guys would become kinda possessive when there really is no real bond form between them what's so ever, and the heated gazes and Alexis body doing that heating up from them being naked after a shift is very awkward. There is also events in here that make no sense, as they are running from a secret facility that does experiments on them and they are on the run hidding, stealing rides, and renting hotels, they just choose one night to go drink at a bar? This book fell flat like my hair on a muggy day.
This book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Sadie Moss!
Wolf Hunted is the first book in The Last Shifter series and tells the story of Alexis and her pack, Jackson, Noah, Rhys and West.
I requested this book because I wanted to try and read another paranormal book again. I’ve been reading so many Romance, New Adult, Contemporary books and I wanted to read another genre again. I was a bit afraid that I wasn’t going to enjoy this book because I hadn’t read that many paranormal books lately, but I loved Wolf Hunted and I couldn’t get enough of it.
Wolf Hunted was my first Reverse Harem Romance book and I loved it. A Reverse Harem means that a girl is followed by a few handsome men who are all in love with her. In the beginning I didn’t know what a Reverse Harem was, so I looked it up before I started this book and it made Wolf Hunted more interesting.
I really enjoyed the slow-burn Romance and to be honest, I don’t really have a favourite guy. I love all of them because they each have something unique and something that makes me love them. I also thought that I wasn’t really going to like the Reverse Harem because I hate a girl that’s indecisive, but I didn’t really bother me at all.
The characters are so lovable. I cannot get enough of all the guys, obviously, and I really like Alexis. She doesn’t really want to bother the pack, she doesn’t want to be their problem, and I really liked that.
Wolf Hunted ends with a major cliffhanger, so I really need to sequel, thank you Sadie!
Life in a medical facility is all Alexis knows. Secure and regimented like an asylum Alexis believes she’s truly I’ll and it’s only frequent visits from her mother that keep her sane and fighting. One random afternoon during some normal testing Alexis’s reality is obliterated. Lied to for as long as she can remember, Alexis has to come to grips with all this while on the run with a group of men who end up rescuing her. The story is fairly fast paced as they are constantly on the move trying to stay under the radar but I still felt like the guys are taking on individual personalities rather than a hive minded harem. Audio is good and pretty engaging. The end of course has a cliffy and so far the harem is still in the crush/heavy petting stage but it’s only book one and Alexis is wayyyyyyy inexperienced and up for the challenge 😘
This is sorta cool. Gives me New Species and Breeds vibes but a bit different since they are still on the run. But I’m enjoying the book.
Didn’t like the cliff hanger ending and I totally thought about what was found was going to happen so I technically did call it but I’m excited to see how this series plays out.
I love this author’s writing - it flows so well and is so clean. Wolf Hunted is the first book in a new paranormal reverse harem series and it is an easy and entertaining read. I like the concept of the heroine, Alexis, living in a special medical complex for most of her life before finally getting out into the real world. Each of the four heroes are nice and as is usually the case with me, the one that is standoffish and a bit of a jerk is my favorite. As is also usually the case with me in RH’s, their emotional connection is a little too fast for me - they are spending a lot of concentrated time together but some of that time is off-page so I don’t get a great feel for them really getting to know each other/falling for each other. That being said, I did get feel it some, and allowances can be made for her having been so sheltered too. I also felt the physical side of things was nicely done. There is a nice bit of danger/action thrown in, and there is a cliffhanger but this author releases relatively quickly so there shouldn’t be too long to wait. 3.5 on GR scale
The story has potential but I think my issue is mainly with the FMC, her head is not a very interesting place to be in. Her thoughts are kind of dull, with no funny anecdotes or insightful thoughts, just normal storytelling from her POV. I mean it's okay to be boring in real life but I want a heroine to be more amazing, and not just because she's experiencing and living through exciting or interesting things. She should have exceptional thoughts and say hilarious and meaningful things.
I think this has been a personal issue for a while now. I've been having trouble getting into books lately and dropping a lot more of them than I used to. It's getting harder to find uniquely exceptional FMC's :(
Not anything new really, but it's not a bad start to a RH slow-burn series. Annoying cliffhanger, though. When will authors realize that is a count against the books instead of making readers want the books more? The next book is out, but not sure if I'll have time to get to it soon or not. I get frustrated by kidnapping/trappings stuff which is what the cliffhanger is a bit about. Otherwise the book is fine and I'm curious on further developments later.
look, there’s really not much to say other than this; wolf hunted is essentially a wattpad fanfiction i would have read when i was fourteen, filled with just as many cliches, just as rushed of a plot and just as many scenes that make me stare at my kindle and go… why would anyone write this? did i mention the main character is NOT like other girls?
I really enjoyed this one. This is a new author to me, I didn't have any expectations. I was looking through KU, and you know how daunting that can be, especially trying to find something that clicks. This one hit all the notes. Easy to read, fast paced with enough action and tension to keep me turning the pages. It's a slow-burn as far as romance goes, but I found that aspect exceptionally written, more realistic. The males all had different personalities, with RH, you don't always get that. These guys have a bond that captures your heart, I can't wait to see how the five of them come together.
Plus, there's a group of scientists experimenting on humans/wolves in underground labs. I'm interested to learn what they were up to. And not to mention a missing sister. It all makes for an engaging read.
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much going into this book. But I was presently surprised. I liked the whole big bad corporation vibe, and of course all of the guys <3 (Yes, even Rhys) But there wasn’t much backstory. We know nothing about the guys, and I really want to know if Alexis is a shifter! I really hope she is.
I already said this, but I really loved the guys. I can’t even explain it. But their so sweet and hot and who couldn’t like them? I could do without Rhys calling Alexis a mistake though -_- He’s slowing coming around :)))
P.S. It’s a little weird that they call her Scrubs. I don’t think she’s actually ever worn them. So it’s pretty random XD
I liked the setup of this book a lot - Alexis thinking she'd been horribly sick since early childhood, and then learning that was all a lie.
The RH part isn't working for me as well, because frankly Rhys is a giant bag of shit. A flip-flopping bag of shit, which is even worse, because I get constant whiplash from his mood swings.
Wolf Hunted is book 1 in this new RH series from the author. Set in contemporary scene, it tells us the story of Alexis who suffered a certain type of disease, that prompted her mother to accept the help of a group of doctors who work to find its cure by "studying" her condition. She then spent most of her childhood until the age of 21 inside the facility, with no actual contact with anyone except the doctors and staff, and sometimes a visit from her mother. Her life was turned upside down when the facility was breached by a pack of wolf shifters. She learned that she was one of Strand's test subjects; a normal person injected with wolf shifting abilities for their own nefarious reason.
I love the slow build up of this story. We can see how Alexis' character developed as a mature young woman and finally, really living her life. She is no longer thinking her life was wasted away closeted to eventually die. I'd say the first book is always the base for its succeeding one and this book didn't burden the reader with too much info dumps. It leaves you guessing while enjoying the slow burn romance and enough action to keep you on the edge of your seat. Definitely will continue reading this series!
This was a great start to The Last Shifter series! Alexis has spent her whole life in hospitals and facilities. When she was a child, she was diagnosed with a rare terminal illness. Nothing ever seemed out of place and she was always so grateful for the staff that took care of her until things went awry. She manages to escape with her life and four strange men- nothing else. Now she’s on the run, discovering the truth and it hurts. I really enjoyed her four men, Jackson, Noah, Rhys, and West. I love how we get to learn about their past and the chemistry they all have with her. I think Noah was my favorite with his adorable and protective personality, but I also really loved the rest of the guys too- they’re each unique. Slow burn worked really well with this story and made it more believable, especially since she’s been locked away her entire life. This book isn’t your normal shifter book and I truly appreciated the originality of it. I feel like Sadie did an amazing job mixing science, romance, and the paranormal world and I can’t wait to see where it goes! Laurel did another fantastic job with this narration! I always get excited when I see that she narrators a book that I’m about to listen to. I love how she can bring each character to life and enhance the story with her tone and passion. @AudiobookObsession *I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
This is entertaining and easy to read. There is a lot of action which keeps the plot moving along at a decent pace. I do wish there was more attention to story flow and consistency. While the grammar is fine we do have some head-scratchers in the mix. An example is an 18-hour trip one way only being a couple of hours the other way. There is a lack of explanation for things like how they just have lots of cash to pay for things even when they have to leave all their stuff behind... This book also involves a pet peeve of mine that treats a hymen like a tamper-proof seal. You would think in the age where getting the correct factual information about women's reproductive health with minimal research would make that bit of misinformation go the way of the dodo but here we are. I was entertained enough that I will read the next book and see how it goes.
I really enjoyed this book! Alexis hasn't been out in the real world in 10 years but she's not totally oblivious which I liked. The book tells a bit about the guys background but not too in depth. Hopefully, that will remedied in the coming books. I thought the storyline was engaging and intriguing. Despite Alexis not really having much social interaction, she's not afraid to defend herself either by words or action.
This one was a bit too young feeling for me, couple that with the h basically being a captive since she was 11 made her especially young and naive and her actions and responses reflected that. I’m hoping for some major character development in the next book. Also considering her past she was full speed ahead on the relationships which I thought didn’t fit. The men in this case are taking things at a more normal pace
A decent read and start to the series. Some things didn't make sense and the insta lust/love was a bit annoying. Like her escaping and they don't think about her having a tracker and how they keep finding them? The whole 'my body betrays me' needs to end tbh. Interested to see how the series progresses.
This was a quick read, but it felt incomplete, and not just because of the cliffhanger ending. It seems like once the plot started to go somewhere, the book ended.
I don’t think I will continue with this series. I’m just not invested enough.
Really great plot, the characters are interesting and relatable. This book is pretty well written, I enjoyed all of it and look forward to the next one!
It took me a while to read this considering it's really short, but also really shallow and boring. Since it's a series, I don't think it provided much for me to read the rest of the books.
