Author of the exciting R.I.S.C. Series, Anna Blakely brings you stories of love, action, and edge of your seat suspense. As an avid reader herself, Anna writes what she loves...strong, Alpha heroes and the intelligent, independent heroines they love.
Anna's dream is to create stories her readers will enjoy, and characters they'll fall in love with as much as she has. She believes in true love and Happily Ever After, which is what she will bring to you.
Anna lives in rural Missouri with her husband and children, as well as several rescued animals. When she's not writing, Anna enjoys reading, watching action and horror movies (the scarier the better), and spending time with her amazing family.
OMG! This is another fantastic story by Anna! This one is about Declan and Skye. It is intense right from the beginning. You definitely feel bad for Skye because of her father. It was a sad situation all around for Skye as well as Declan. I guess you can say this is a second chance for this couple. It was interesting to see who the killer was of the last two victims. FANTASTIC job Anna! I would recommend this book.
An amazing, spine tingling, page turner in the Marked Series. Filled with secret, lies, murder and mayhem that breaks Skye's heart and wondering if anything was ever real except for the horror in her life and leaves Declan praying he can get to her in time and that she'll forgive him. Loved it!!
Marked for Deception is every bit as captivating as its predecessors. It's an intriguing look at the family members of a serial killer. Are they cut from the same cl9th? Are they guilty by association? Can they ever lead a normal life? Will the victims' families try to exact revenge? Anna Blakely does a stellar job of exploring all these questions and so much more.
Skye Lewis lives with the guilt of her father's crimes and her silence everyday of her life. She's suddenly thrust back into the nightmare when her father dies. Declan King was a rookie cop when Sam Lewis was apprehended ten years earlier. He struck up a friendship with Skye. One he never forgot nor did she. Now he's tasked with getting close to her again. It's definitely not a hardship but it's deception all the same. How can he tell her the truth and still do his job? He's fallen for her and wants a forever with her. Suddenly her life is in danger from an unexpected source and Declan races against time to save her.
Yes, I am strange. Serial killer themes, or actually the children of serial killers is a theme that I completely love. Sounds sad, but truly it is not, having read a great deal of true crime "fiction" (oxymoronic - "true" crime fiction) I have become fascinated by the children of serial killers and how authors handle writing about them. Firstly, Ms Blakely, (love your work), I was absolutely impressed with your grace with which you wrote about the heroine, the daughter of a serial killer. There is a valid reason we hear so little about them, because all we know is usually propaganda spun by the media, add social media and these children and adult children of serial killers are tarred and feathered by societal prejudice. Yet, you gave true insight into a young woman's life since her father's arrest and all that followed. Most are like our heroine, introverted from social condemnation. Sins of the father... Most actual documented articles I have read impress how these individuals are afraid to live because the media/social media continue to harass and make their lives more miserable than they are just from having a parent who may have truly loved them, as your heroine's did. I honestly cannot give you enough kudos for your treatment of her, you showed the reality of these children, no matter their age. Now our hero, often unwanted to smack him down. First meeting between these two occured when the heroine was just 18, and the hero a new cop, cocky, full of himself, and under orders from the prosecution. Tough choice, but youth will out, as it's said. Now years later, again he is out into the same situation and cannot refuse. This time he has grown, an important fact, but still is lying by omission still lying, personally if deliberate for gain, I say yes. Quickly, things escalate between them, but the issues in play are perfectly convoluted. All is not as it seems, and what is real is more than expected. Your descriptive writing from both perspectives gave us the reader understanding of both main characters. My biggest disappointment with this novel, Maggie. I loved her book, but at the beginning I was so disappointed. You certainly pointed out human fallacy through her comments to Declan( hero) when the first victim is found. Maggie fell right into that mindset, killers child, same blood garbage. Yet, you wrote her recovery and thank goodness, I was saddened by a character I fell in love with in her novel! So,now that I have bored those of you reading this... Ms. Blakely, no surprise, an enthralling novel, yet again! Written with realism, and such grace about individuals in an untenable situation. You wrote a beautiful defence for these people!
Awesome book! I loved not rushed, and then storyline didn't feel like gaps were missing due to completion being the target! Next please! Six weeks! JAX!
Really good, but the ending was really rushed, and a few plot holes.
Luckily I forgot that I’d read Marked for death, as it was really badly written, so much so that I gave up on the series. This one, while it was a lot better there are a few things that spoiled it. See below.
Skye’s dad is in prison for the murder of several young women. When he fakes his own death to escape prison, Declan goes undercover as Skye’s boyfriend, to try and catch her father. He lies to Skye all the way through the book and tells her he owns half of Sin the nightclub. His friends lie to Skye as well, covering for him. To be honest, I thought it was disgusting that Declan didn’t tell her who he was, even after they fall in love and are having sex! 😡😡 The whole way through the book I was waiting for him to confess, or for her to find out who he really was. It was pretty obvious that she wasn’t involved with her father, or that her father was going to get in touch with her. Skye moves in with Declan, and his friends Maggie and Allie befriend her. Yet no one tells her the truth. I did really enjoy this book. It’s just so many questions arise when reading it. I’m sorry if I sound critical. As parts were really good. I might read the next book. Maybe.
Some small mistakes and a couple of huge plot holes.
1) On Skye’s 16th birthday she is thinking about her mothers death five years previously. So she was 11. Later in the book she’s talking to Declan about her death and she’s a completely different age. 2) Skye’s dad was arrested when she was 18. She moves away from Denver, doesn’t write to her dad, he doesn’t phone her, she doesn’t visit him in prison. So no contact at all. So why do the police think that Skye is the key to finding her dad? Putting a detective on her to watch her would make sense. Tapping her phone line would make sense. What really doesn’t make sense is Declan going undercover as her boyfriend. 3) If Skye was 18 when her dad was arrested, why does she talk about moving to her aunties house as though she had no choice? As though she was underage. What happened to her auntie? She’s never mentioned again. 4) I’m pretty sure that Declan moving Skye into his flat is unethical, and someone would have spoken to him about it. Also having sex with her is really unethical. 5) Skye tells Declan that she witnessed her dad burying a body when she was 16. Declan didn’t tell anyone else about that. Yet when Skye is taken by one of the victims brother, he tells her that she needs to be punished for not saying anything about what she saw. How would he know that?? He wouldn’t!!!
I am loving the darker crime based Marked series and book #3 Marked for Deception is no exception. Skye and Declan’s relationship is built on deception, can it survive the truth? Skye is the daughter of an evil serial killer, 10 years ago Declan was sent undercover to get close to her and find information about her father. Present day and he is undercover once more again seeking information about her father and once more being pulled by the attraction he feels for her. Skye never forgot Declan, nor did her heart and now it seems she has a second chance at a relationship with him but she too carries the burden of her own secrets from the past. Plenty of suspense, the plot is dark and will keep you guessing, your heart will break for Skye living with the evil her father perpetrated and the awful secret she carries, you may find yourself divided by that. Declan is walking a tightrope between his job and his love for Skye, will their relationship survive the secrets he’s been keeping? I thoroughly enjoyed this story, it’s harrowing in places but completely gripping, so I highly recommend it.
I’ve been eagerly waiting each book in this series, but this one was a disappointment.
First, the h doesn’t deserve an HEA, nor the H’s devotion. What cop could overlook (much less love) someone who knows a person is killing people and says nothing? The fact remains that she knew and did nothing for TWO YEARS, knowing her dad would continue. She literally cost two people their lives and caused unimaginable pain to so many others. At 16, 17, and 18, she was totally old enough to know better. She should have been arrested as an accessory or some such. She was an OK h until it came out that she stuck her head in the sand. There’s NO way she didn’t hear about the last two victims and not know it was her dad. AND, she never came forward…they caught him and she never knew they used her. I nearly DNFed at that revelation.
And, I’ll ask again…who edits these things?? So many grammatical errors and implausible pieces of the story. And, at least tell us what she does with the money…frankly, having her set up a foundation or a fund in the name of the last two vics would have at least made her a little less despicable.
Oh Declan, Declan, Declan what a tangled web we weave when we try to deceive! Declan King is a Denver police officer whose badge is on the rise. When he was a young police officer he was assigned a case to go undercover and get close to 18 year old Skye Lewis. Her father was thought to be a serial killer and the PD felt that she was their ticket to information. They felt that the ends justify the means. They were correct about their killer but they were wrong about Skye. Now it is a decade later, the killer is on the loose and the PD plans to use Declan again against Skye however the big problem is that this sweet young woman left her mark on Declan's soul. Can he survive hurting her again even if the ends justify the means? Marked for Deception was a good story. I wish that it was longer to really give me what I needed for a great ending but it was a good story and a good addition to the series. Told from dual POV and had plenty of action, angst, intrigue and heat.
A decade ago, fresh from the academy, Denver homicide detective Declan King was tasked to get close to a notorious serial killer’s daughter, Skye Lewis. Budding feelings existed between Skye and Declan on both sides. She didn’t want to burden anyone with the hate directed at her for her jailed dad’s heinous crimes; he’d been undercover and Skye didn’t know his real name or his role in her father’s arrest and prosecution.
Days ago, Declan and Skye were notified her dad was dead. Skye was also told her dad left her the property and money. Declan was told Skye’s dad’s death was a clever ruse to escape prison and he needed to reprise his role in Skye’s life to find out if she was helping or in contact with her dad. But when the pair accidentally ‘run into’ each other, they pick up where they left off with the same brakes for each in place. Rating: 4.25stars
A second chance for a love that never died but was ripped away from them, Declan and Skye may be back in the same place again but nothing has changed. They still love each other more than anything, Declan's deception is overshadowing every move and her past is hurtling back towards her to torment them once again. The love they share is indisputable, but you can also feel Declan's pain and insecurities as he is forced to lie to Skye again and again. I love this group of detectives and FBI agents, and the family they have formed. They may be jaded, a little dinted and a lot wary, but once they find the woman for them, they know they need to hold tight and make every moment count. A fantastic read on Kindle Unlimited and book seven in the series is released later this week.
Declan and Skye. Undercover secrets but the emotions and danger are real. Declan has been a fav in all the books and now his time has come. It takes us back a decade to where he fell for a woman but couldn’t do anything as she was part of a case and had no idea who he really was. Now she is back, but the danger is also back, but maybe not in the form everyone expects? Their connection is tangible and the team of friends and other detectives immediately notice it. The scenes with clues and of death are vivid and help build the world where I was thrown by the actual killer for the two current victims, who helped Declan get to Skye in time, and how sweet and touching the final scene was! No intro for the next book, but I am hoping it is Jax or that we get to see more of Parker!
I'm loving this series! And I'm grateful to the readers who recommended Ms. Blakely to me. :)
Such great, complex characters! Sexy, protective heroes. What I loved best about Skye and Declan's story was the twisty mystery--it seemed danger was coming at her from all directions. And I appreciate that everything wasn't tied up in a neat bow at the end. After everything that happened, Skye needed some time learn to trust again and believe in Dec's love. I even liked how her father handled things to help her (even though he wasn't a great guy, either, he had a code of honor and he stuck to it).
Skye Lewis lived in Indians Hills, CO ( outside of Denver). Sam Lewis is Skye’s Father. Declan King is a homcide detective in Denver. Grady Thorne Declan’s partner.
Skye met Declan ( was undercover ona case), involving a serial killer (her father). Their are secrets !!
Incidents have come up that again puts Skye and Declan together after 10 Years. Can Skye and Declan have a Happily Ever After? You will have to read the book.
Great book! You don’t want to miss this book! This book is part of a set but can be read as a standalone. The book had my attention from page one. Finished in a few hours. Loved the story, characters and very well written. It has intrigue, suspense, twists and turns, family drama and keeps you guessing right to the end. Declan and Skye were amazing as a couple and had to overcome their secrets to get their HEA. I received an ARC for an honest review but Anna Blakey is a one click author for me.
This is an awesome read. Declan is the detective that put Skye’s serial killer father away 10 years ago. They have now come together again after her father has escaped from prison. Each is deceiving one another with their own secrets. This Marked Series gets better and better. This one has mystery and romance. It’s a real page turner with all the twists and turns. It has a lot of suspense and I Can’t wait till we have Dax’s story.
Marked for Deception: WOW! Lots of suspense, surprises and romance. Delcan never forgot Skye after 12 years. Seeing her again after all these years he couldn't believe how much she change and how beautiful she still was. He was trying to do his job and she she didn't know the truth then or now. He hated lying to her but he was trying to close the case. His feeling were getting in the way. It was an amazing story!
Anna stated at the beginning she has three proof readers. I think she needs to get new ones. I love all her books but since I like to binge a series I catch all inconsistencies between books and a few mistakes that shouldn't pass a proofreader. After seeing the word DECEIPT I really hope these readers don't get paid ffs The amount of mistakes that made it through is astounding. I'm not professional but I'd do a better job for free ffs
This story was kind of similar to the last. Likeable characters — Skye was the daughter of a mass murderer. Don’t know how you ever get over that. And Declan fell in love with her during the time he arrested her dad. They spent 10 years apart and when they found each other again, it was all lies — Declan was undercover trying to get info on her dad.
They are a cute couple, but reader is told they’re in love — it was hard to feel it.
Loved this book. There were secrets, lies, twists and turns. I did not see the ending. Just WOW! Skye and Declan were great. They did not miss a beat. I loved how they looked hard at themselves and found strength to grow and finally, trust. I highly recommend this book. I can't wait for Jax's story! He was great in this book!
Absolutely a great book. Anna has a way to suck you in and you will not want to stop. Action packed, steamy, great friendships. Overall just a great read. Declan and Skye was a action packed page turner and I couldn't put it down. Can't wait to see what happens with Jax, his will be great.
The relationship between Skye and Declan started out with deception and continued as such when they “accidentally” meet up again. This might be upsetting to some readers, so here’s your warning. The reader goes on quite a ride with Skye when she discovers Declan’s deception and puts herself in danger. Again, I would have loved it if the book was a bit longer.
The story is quite good, but I felt like at the end, everything is rushed. Also I don't understand the backstory in the UC. So Declan is undercover as a truck driver turned nightclub owner? This part is okay, but then he brought Skye to his house. I mean, come on.
Plus the ending. Oh my.. Declan needs to grovel way more.
What a life. Loosing your parents. One died. One heads to jail. People wanna hold you accountable for other people’s actions. You fall in love based on a lie. Your brain says he lied. Your heart says he loves me. Different people trying to kill the innocent woman. Ready to read the next book. As always keep writing and I will keep reading.
I did not enjoy the premise of this book being deception. I loved the story line about the serial killer’s daughter, I loved the characters themselves, and I loved the expanded Marked universe. However, I dreaded the climax of the book where I knew the big lie would come out, and it took away some of the enjoyment of the book for me.
This is a Second Chance Romantic Suspense, and this is the third book in the Marked series. I have read the first two books in this series before picking up this book, but I do think you could read this as a standalone without any problems. I found parts of this book to be boring, but parts of it I really enjoyed.
Wow, I have to say this is my favorite book in the series so far! It's was a fast paced read that I could not put down!!! Lots of great characters, romance and suspense! I can't wait for Jax's book!!!
Fast paced action that immediately grabs your attention and doesn’t let go till the very end. An underlying sizzling romance that is 12 years in the making. Marked for Deception is a compelling read, difficult to impossible to put down. So very highly recommend.
A great addition to the series. Well written story that pulls you in. Full of action, suspense and secrets. Love these stories. You won't be disappointed. I was given an advanced reader copy and I voluntarily leave this review.
This and the previous books in the series are really quite good. Not too terribly long but not too short yet enough details for an entertaining story. Would always love a bit more.
## Wow, this one is full of action. It started off with a bang and continued to be interesting throughout. Suspense, action, and a dose of romance all in one. I will gladly read this again.
