When Ruby falls for a charming man who is already betrothed to another woman, will a friend from her past capture her heart before she is tempted from the Christian principles by which she was raised?

Eight years ago, Ruby Travers met a sweet, smiling boy as they traveled across the Atlantic on a luxury ocean liner with their families. Countless letters have passed between them, and Matthew is certain he is in love with the vivacious, beautiful girl he spent hours with on that boat long ago. When he finally returns from Europe intent on meeting her again, will Ruby's affection be dangerously engaged when he reveals his true feelings?

I loved this even more than book one - and I especially love the men (not Paul, of course!). Matthew is an absolute sweetheart (so is Nico), and I can't wait to see what happens for Johnny in the next book. He's been so upset since Faithful in Love and I really want to see him happy.

RUBY AND MATTHEW

The story is a clean historical Christian-based romance tale. It will take place in Newport, Rhode Island, and begins in December 1914. The story revolves around several wealthier families that are related. The cousins are very close, and they are part of these tales from one story to the next. But this tale mainly focuses on Ruby Travers and Matthew Brighton. The two initially met on a joint cruise eight years prior, and they became the best of friends for those few weeks. But since then, they have been pen-pals, sharing their adventures, places they've been, and sights they've seen. The story begins with Ruby getting a new letter from her pen-pal, Matthew, but it is short and sweet and very much a surprise this time.

"My dearest Ruby, I will arrive n Newport on New Year's Day, and hope to see you as soon as you will receive me. It has been so long, I do wonder if we will recognize each other. With much affection, Matthew"

The story's plot will have Matthew traveling to Newport and arriving earlier than initially stated. He wants to see if his years of longing after Ruby are real. But, Ruby meets someone on her recent trip aboard who is now in Manhattan, and she is wondering if this mature man and her would suit. The story has some mystery, suspense, secrets, danger, and even tragedy. I like the characters in the story; there is just enough family loyalty, angst, secrets, and determination to keep the pages turning. I like the solid Christian principles and how they practice their faith, pray for others, and serve others in need. They treat their staff kindly, thanking them, and never treat them as if they are beneath them. They also remind one another how important it is to pray about matters concerning them.

"The fall of the sparrow. Whatever is troubling you, it is of interest to our Lord. Don't forget to pray, and you can talk to me or your father, and of course your sister. But God is always listening, so turn to him, Ruby."

As Ruby rekindles her friendship with Matthew, others see how he looks at her—and there are comments about how they will be a couple. Matthew is in love with Ruby, but when she asks him to help her get a letter to another man in secret, he holds off telling her his feelings. Has he waited too late—could this other man be courting her? Why doesn't her family seem to know about him? But, even Ruby has doubts, especially when she sees him with another woman—has she found her answer, or will she pursue this further?

"Charity before parties, kindness above class. Love for Christ as a guide always. Would pursuing Paul and the hope of a relationship with him be in alignment with this?"

The story has the good, the bad, and the ugly of people. It was good to see that Matthew and her cousin Johnny are looking out for Ruby. Will she learn a hard lesson—and has sure ruined her chances with Matthew? Will Ruby realize that an honest and loyal man has been her best friend for all these years, and he will love her no matter what? Friendship is the most extraordinary beginning to a love story, and these two have had half their lifetime to find it.

I love the characters' faith, how they all have strong Christian principles and aren't afraid to pray—have faith in God—and lend a hand to those in need. The story does have a huge cast of characters, many cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends to keep up with. While this story does not end on a cliffhanger, it does leave us with a surprise that will be the next story.

Christian Historical Romance

If you haven't read the previous books, this extended family can be quite overwhelming, and honrstly, even if you have grown familiar with them, it's too easy to confuse the names and relationships!

But struggle through if you must, because these characters are worth knowing! Their stories worth reading and the lessons worth learning!

Another delightful and mysterious romance from the Cliff Walk Cousins Series, a knock off series (the children), of the original Cliff Walk Courtships Series.

Lovely book wonderful characters.
I found the first book wonderful so when given the chance to read the second book in the series I jumped at the chance. It is as good as the first it is a wonderful story. This faith-based piece deals with Ruby and Matthew having meet some years ago they are now again in each other’s lives. There is a fly in the ointment so it was interesting to see just when the author was going to take her characters. This story has depth and it is written so well it was a sheer pleasure to read this book. I did receive a free copy of this book from Booksprout and voluntarily chose to review it.
