A duke and a writer walk into a bar, and the barman says—never mind. They’re in the library, and they’re not wearing any clothes. Oops.

My name is Adelaide Astley, and if there was anything remotely exciting about me to tell you, I would.
Sure, my uncle is the Duke of Leicester, and my mother bucked family tradition to marry “below” her and open a hotel, but I’m nothing but an aspiring author with a Tudor era obsession.
Oh, and I’m spending the summer tutoring the daughter of the current Duke of Worcester—who happens to be a regular in my highly inappropriate midnight dreams.
Thirty-year-old Alexander Winthrop-Bentley is so not my type, but hours of chess games and arguments over Tudor dynasties mean we’re thrown together more often than we should be. And when he shares with me that he needs a date for a charitable event, my mouth betrays me by offering myself up for the evening.
How I find myself naked in the library is another matter entirely. Ahem.
When the society papers declare us an item, neither of us have the heart to tell our families the truth. Only my twin sister and best friend know the truth, but they both agree we need to keep up the charade, even if only for the summer.
But when the end of August comes and my return home beckons, I have to ask myself a question.

Is it only his daughter who’s stolen my heart, or has Alexander done the very same thing?

This a well-written, entertaining contemporary romance novel. It has a likable, compassionate female protagonist, a kind and caring male protagonist, wit, humor, engaging secondary characters, including an adorable little girl, a heartwarming romance, and a satisfying conclusion. This is the second entry in the Aristocrat Diaries series, and it can be enjoyed as a stand alone, but it is even better when read in order. The narrators, Will Watt and Shakira Shute, are truly talented and do an outstanding job voicing the characters.

Dating the Duke is OK read. The story is actually cute and sweet. Alexander is a sweet, gentle hero. Single dad. My heart falls for him.

What makes me give this book 3 stars because the story feels dragging. Miss Hart does not add plot/ twist in the story. A story can be dragging, but make it more interesting with additional plot/ twist.

Overall, it is still OK read.

This is second in a series and characters carry over from the first book to this one. You don't have to read them in order, but I think it's an enhancement if you do.

Well crap. I let this go a month without reviewing it. I liked this book as much as the first one. And I really liked seeing Addy with Olympia, Alex's daughter. It was clear that she fell for them both and I loved the dynamic that provided.

The dark moment was kind of stupid, though—not least because it sprang from the weakest of them both manifesting simultaneously. And worse because it was so predictable that both saw it coming.

I'm going to go with four stars, though I realize this review is thin shavings. I really like Emma Hart's character interactions, even when the banter is relatively light (as it is in this story).

A note about Steamy: I forget the details, but I'm pretty sure this was about the middle of my steam tolerance. And that it was fitting to the story. Probably.

Dating The Duke is the second book in the "Aristocrat Diaries" series and I had so much fun with this one. I definitely enjoyed this one a lot more than book one and the ending was so magical and was a true HEA. Its definitely not what we got in book one. (hint book one's ending was the only reason I didn't five star it). I am falling in love with Emma Hart and her writing style, and this series has been such a blast. I started out with the audio but then switched to the ebook and I really liked it better.

Dating the Duke is a mix of forbidden romance and forced proximity. The heroine is hired on as a summer nanny of sorts, to the hero's daughter who is autistic. There is such a quick bond that is formed as she gets settled into her role with the family and how she develops ways to help this autistic girl. There is a sense of forbidden, as she works for the Duke, but there is powerful chemistry between them and they keep what they have a secret.

I really had a blast seeing this author explore a forbidden feel to the relationship, and it didn't have an "icky" feeling to this story at all with the power dynamic. You can see how the hero is really trying to be professional about it. I felt like Emma Hart really handled these elements so well here. I really loved the way that they interacted with each other. I also enjoyed that the chemistry was slowly built concerning the circumstances surrounding their relationship. Although what do I know? I never have issues with the power dynamics like this. I adored the connections with the daughter, she was so adorable and how the heroine helps her in learning to read on a kindle was adorbs! The romance was so heartfelt and once their relationship kicked off, I was so on board. And honestly the ending was so beautiful and satisfying and is what bumped this book to a 4.5 star rating for me.

Overall I had a blast with Dating the Duke and I can't wait for the final installment in the trilogy!

Tutoring the Dukes daughter for the summer shouldn’t include dreams of the Duke. Adelaide’s role includes more than some tricky books. When she agrees to be the Dukes date for an evening she doesn’t realise his daughter won’t be the only one steeling her heart.

Another great addition to the Aristocrat Diaries.

I received an ARC however I ended up finding this on KU. Well worth the wait.

Wth kind of book is this? The ending was abrupt.. There was no indication or even a scene where it said they wanna be together.. I don't know what the author was trying to do by writing this book.. There were hardly any romantic scenes between the leads.. This book could have been shelved or scrapped entirely...

This book seemed like it wanted to be the best spicy tacos, but ended up being soggy and mild.

Pros:
The Duke's daughter Olympia. She steals the show. She has high-functioning autism and other learning differences, and the heroine is brought into tutor her over the summer during the break in the school year. She's great.

The writing is fun -- my inner narrator read the entire thing with a British accent which has never happened before!

Cons:
Very little spark between the hero and heroine until maybe a little over halfway through.

A fake-relationship between the hero and heroine that occurs toward the middle of the book that impacts the heroine for about 5 minutes, but then doesn't really matter for the rest of the book.

Media interest in the couple that again, matters for about 5 minutes and then completely disappears.

The secret behind Olympia's mother (we don't know what happened to her for most of the novel) that doesn't really matter.

The issues the Duke is dealing with in the town/area that he runs that don't actually impact anything.

The fact that the main character is trying to be a writer, but again, it doesn't really impact her -- whether she gets a paycheck for the book won't change anything about her life, and she doesn't seem THAT emotionally invested.

Basically... Nothing really mattered to any of the characters!!!! Or if it did, we don't see enough of it on the page.

Emma Hart has outdone herself with her latest release, Dating the Duke, the second book in The Aristocrat Diaries Series. This incredibly witty, charming and hilarious romance between a writer and a duke will leave you rooting for the characters until the very end!

At the beginning we are introduced to Adelaide Astley, a writer who is tutoring the Duke of Worcester’s daughter for the summer. Even though her uncle is the Duke of Leicester, Bentley Manor is close to a castle than a manor house. Rich with so much history that she can’t wait to dive into as she tutors ten-year old Olympia. But it’s Alexander who keeps appearing in her dreams, even though he is her boss, she can’t stop being attracted to the single dad. He is attractive and incredibly kind to her. Adelaide has seen how he treats his staff as part of the family and she likes that about him. They also playfully banter over Tudor history and a good game of chess. Yet, she sees how everyone around him wants to set him up and offers to be his plus-one to a charity event without realizing just how much their lives were about to change forever. Now they are front news of in the society pages who have labeled them as a couple and they agree to pretend for a short while. But pretending soon turns into so much more and Adelaide has to decide if she is willing to put her heart on the line if only just for the summer is worth it or not.

As the Duke of Worcester, Alexander has a lot on his plate when it comes to his life and he has no intention of pursuing a romantic relationship as Olympia is his top priority. It’s because of that, that he hires a tutor for summer so that his daughter gets some extra guidance before she actually starts school. But hiring Adelaide has started to give him second thoughts about what he truly wants and as the two start to spend more time together, the more fond of her he becomes. Everything changes when the society pages labeled them as a couple and to prevent the press from bothering them, they both agree to be in a relationship for the summer. Soon all the stolen kisses start to feel real and being near her begins to feel like home. They are both playing a dangerous game when it comes to keeping their hearts intact, but when he realizes just much he has fallen for her, Alexander will have to convince her to them a change before it’s too late.

I absolutely loved reading Dating the Duke, it was highly entertaining and romantic. Hart did a great job transporting me to the setting of the book with her writing. I fell in love with the characters themselves, their chemistry is instant and they are able to develop a great friendship as well. They know that their time is limited and they are trying to not get their hearts involved because of that. Alexander’s mom made the book much more fun, she truly had me laughing out-loud. Olympia was a sweetheart, following on her grandmother’s footsteps when it comes to having pets in the house. The ending was emotional and perfect. I can’t believe their story is over, but we do get a glimpse of the next book in the series in the epilogue and I cannot wait to read Eva’s story next!

I enjoyed the first book in this series, and was excited for the second one. It was easy to fall in love with the duke and his daughter from the first book and so I definitely was eager to see him get his HEA. Unlike Emma Hart’s other books that are set in America, these books have been a little slower to start for me or in certain spots in the book. I liked that the characters in this were able to get past their reasons for keeping each arms-length apart pretty easily, and even the final drama was resolved in what felt very realistic and perfect to me.

I loved seeing characters from the first book again in this one. It was very wonderful having Alex’s daughter as a character. She was autistic, but as most people know, it is rare or harder for girls to get that diagnosis and be able to get the help or accommodations they need to be successful quite often. I really enjoyed how the author took that part of the story, as I am a former teacher, there was a lot that was just real and made the story that much better. Adelaide worked perfectly with her. I also have to say I totally get Adelaide’s thoughts/opinions on wanting to work with kids, but being better at the one on one than with a whole group of them.

And oh, the guinea pigs, I am such a big fan of them! I don’t think they get the recognition they need, lol. I loved Alex’s mother’s cats that she snuck in. Another fun story, with a trip to a funfair – which I still trip over that word because I’ve always just heard fair, and I hope that we get Adelaide’s sister’s story next!

5 star review Dating The Duke (The Aristocrat Diaries #2) by Emma Hart

Dating The Duke was one of those books that I had a hard time putting down once I started. From the first paragraph I was invested in the story that Ms. Hart wove about author Adelaide Astley and Alexander Winthrop-Bentley, the Duke of Worcester.

Adelaide tutors Alexander’s daughter and despite herself finds him immensely attractive, so much so, that he has a starring role in her nightly fantasies. When she finds herself agreeing to be his date for a charity event, she has no idea how their lives are about to change.

The characters were engaging and I really liked them both. It was entertaining to watch their relationship develop even though they knew that they should avoid involvement at all costs. The banter between them was witty and their relationship was built on mutual respect and a growing friendship.

What follows is an entertaining, at times emotional story that had me laughing out loud on numerous occasions and ticked the boxes for me. The chemistry between them is intense and I really enjoyed watching their relationship progress.

The second visit with Ms Hart’s English gentry and another slow burn romp in the country.
It takes a long time for this story to go anywhere but it’s nicely written with some lovely moments.
The dukes daughter is a sweetheart and I enjoyed learning all about her….the author writes with great experience here.
The romance was a bit flat and too friendly for me…like book one I wanted a bit more fire and chemistry.
This is a gentle, almost too polite story which passes the time and would make a great beach read.

I needed a fun and light contemporary read and this checked all my boxes. I really loved Oly ❤ She completely stole my heart. I'm also a sucker for royal romance, so this was right up my alley.

✅ Sexy Single-Dad Duke (he's amazing with Oly, too!)
✅ Fun-Loving Heroine
✅ Refreshing Contemporary Spin on Aristocratic-Style Romance

I loved it and highly recommend it <3

4.5 Stars for Dating the Duke ( The Aristocrat Diaries)
I’m really enjoying my catch up with royalty and Dating the Duke is the perfect addition to the series. This is Adelaide and single dad Alexander‘s romantic and emotional story.
Adelaide Ashley may be royalty a few times removed after her mother married below herself and then opened up a hotel but she only sees herself as an inspiring author and she has agreed to spend the summer tutoring the Duke of Worcester’s daughter. Her job is to spend the summer tutoring not having heated, steamy dreams about her boss…….
Alexander Winthrop-Bentley is not Adelaide’s normal type but when he confesses he needs a date for a charity event she offers her services and what follows is the society papers reporting they are a couple so how do they break it to their family and more importantly Alexander’s adorable daughter Olympia who has stolen Adelaide’s heart that they are not a couple. The summer comes and goes and it’s time to go home s will this couple admit their real feelings for each other or will they walk away….
This book ticked my boxes, I fell in love with the characters, I swooned, I laughed and I sighed as the adorable Olympia nearly stole the show with her one liners and honestly it was the relation Adelaide built with Olympia that took this book to another level. I love that little girl with all my heart and I’m excited for the next instalment in this entertaining series.

After reading Lady Love I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Addy and Alex’s book and I was not disappointed in any way. It hit all the right buttons when it comes to my book loving heart and left me wanting to spend a lot more time with Addy, Alex, Olympia and their friends and family.

I ADORED Addy and Alex. Addy is vivacious and sweet, even if she is an introvert. Alex comes across as a bit stiff, but it’s understandable considering his station in life, but he has a huge heart. Their journey to their HEA was a lot of fun to experience. While they were friendly, they weren’t friends, so watching as they became more was a lot of fun. I loved their bantering and flow and the chemistry between them was undeniable. They do deal with a few bumps in their road, the biggest brought on by themselves, but I really liked how everything worked out for them in the end.

This was a great addition to the series. Fun, quick, sweet and low on drama but filled with lots of heart. I loved catching up with Gabi and Miles ~ OMG magpies ~ and the inhabitants of Whitborough were awesome! But outside of Addy and Alex, Olympia stole the show. Sweet, precocious and stubborn, this girl will rule the world one day…and I do hope that we get to experience it. But I cannot wait to get my hands on Eve’s book and see both her and her beau bring each other to their knees.

Adelaide Astley trained as a teacher but quickly learned that while she enjoyed working with students one-on-one, managing an entire classroom wasn't for her. Now an aspiring author, she's battling a case of writer's block when her best friend's cousin Alexander Winthrop-Bentley, the Duke of Worcester, asks her to spend the summer tutoring his dyslexic 10-year-old daughter Olympia in reading and writing. It's not long before Addy's a full-time member of the ducal household, spending her mornings with Olympia, afternoons working on her novel, evenings playing chess with Alex or making friends with the local cross stitch group...and nights dreaming of Alex naked in the library. Alex is equally drawn to Addy, but he's reluctant to act on his feelings until a paparazzi photo of them attending a charity gala together hits the papers and speculation grows that the two of them are dating. Their relationship finally begins to heat up, but will they let fear get in the way of what could be a lasting love?

I loved Alex and Addy together because their relationship felt so easy and natural. They had plenty of chemistry, but it wasn't the only thing pulling them together; I could tell how much they genuinely enjoyed spending time in each other's company, even if all they were doing was drinking wine and reading together. (As a dork who loves British history, I got a few good laughs out of their Lancaster/York debates!) Alex was a devoted father to his daughter Olympia, and as such she played a key part in his relationship with Addy. I'll be the first one to admit that I don't know much about autism or dyslexia, but from my perspective those aspects of the story were handled very well, and I learned several things I didn't know before.

Overall, I adored "Dating the Duke" and highly recommend it for all romantic comedy fans. I can't wait for the next book of the series, which will feature Addy's hilarious twin sister Eva and Matthew, the Earl of Anglesey.

ARC kindly received for an honest review.

I quite enjoyed this book. I was curious about Adelaide and Alex after having previously read the first book in this series. I wasn't disappointed. This was fun and flirty and also full of heart-warming moments.

Olympia, Elizabeth and Boris were great secondary characters, especially Olympia. I quite like how everything to do with her learning was approached and how she was written. She could arguably be my favourite character in this book hehe.

I like the ease of things between the characters and I enjoyed the way things came together at the end. It was fun, it was cheesy, it was easy to love. Would recommend.

Dating The Duke was a fun, light hearted story with some romantic scene that will make you swoon!

Alexander had it all- he’s a great dad to Olympia, a kind son and the perfect boss to Adelaide. He so fun and full of life you can't help liking him! When you add the sexy Duke part.. it all equals HOT!! He's also very sweet funny and just all over wonderful!!

Adelaide is Olympia’s tutor- she’s sassy, Independant and definitely has a kind of her own. She found Alexander sexy but will never dare to cross the line..

I loved them together, the way they both bring out the best in each other is fantastic to read.

When Alexander asks her to be a plus one to a charity ball… everything changes…

I love how Dating the Duke is a romcom a la Emma Hart but she still manages to write about serious themes regarding Olympia like Autism and uthe challenges she faces as a child. Olympia stole my heart with her big heart , her love for jellyfish and sharks and her full of life personality.

I would recommend this book as it was funny and a feel good book.

Adelaide is a tutor to Alexander’s daughter, Olympia. She is spending the summer living with them while she works with her. Adelaide is crushing on her boss, but also falling for his sweet little girl in the process. Alex is attracted to Adelaide, but she is his daughters tutor and he is too busy on running his family’s estate.

I loved the connection between Adelaide and Alexander from the start. Despite him being her boss and her being his employee they have formed somewhat of a friendship with each other. There is just an easy going feeling about their entire relationship, of course, when the society papers start making assumptions about them it leads them down a different path.

This story was funny, it was sweet, and it had some spice. From start to finish it was just an entertaining story. Plus the secondary characters are all super fun and I can’t wait for Adelaide’s twin sister!

If you’re looking for a single dad, fake dating, rom com this is one to check out.

After enjoying the first book in this series, and falling in love with the duke and his daughter, I couldn't wait to get my hands on his story. Watching Adelaide tutor Alexander's daughter, Olympia, was such a joy. Olympia is autistic and Adelaide is living with them over the summer while she works with her. As she falls in love with the little girl, her crush on her boss grows.

This was such a fun, sweet, slow burn romance. I also enjoyed seeing the characters from the previous book again. If you like single dad, fake dating, with heart, laughter, and a little bit of spice, don't miss out on this one.

What a cute book with a side of spice. I am absolutely loving this series by Emma Hart. The characters are great and the setting is wonderful.

Addy and Alex are so perfect for each other and their chemistry is off the charts. I loved watching their love blossom naturally and develop into something really special. Oly is just the cutest little girl.

This book really had me smiling the entire time. The banter, the sexual tension, the amazing characters were all so well written.

I really look forward to Eva’s story next.

This was exactly what I needed when I randomly picked it up! You have the teacher living in a Dukes home, teaching an adorable, on the spectrum child. You've got fake dating... what more could I want. It was all predictable, following every Hallmark movie plan. And sometimes that's just what you need!

I enjoyed this one about as much as Adelaide enjoys a good custard cream biscuit (the ones she didn't drop in her tea, that is.)

That is to say, I really enjoyed Adelaide and Alexander. I liked not only their chemistry but the way they seem to genuinely enjoy one another. This is a relationship that starts as she is in close proximity as his daughter's tutor and strengthens over tea (and tea cups) and conversations and getting to know one another. And, it works. You believe, at the end, that it's a story about 2 people who want the other in their lives enough to be willing to allow the changes that brings to happen.

I also liked the story with the daughter. Sometimes a book can try to hard to make a statement about something that the characters and the story get lost amongst the statement the author is making...that wasn't the case with this story at all. It worked with all of the characters and I enjoyed and recommend this title.

Adelaide has a background in teaching so the opportunity to tutor Olympia so that she doesn’t get behind compared to her peers is exactly what she needs. Not only do she and Olympia become close, but it doesn’t take long for Adelaide to develop feeling for her father as well.

Alexander is not only a single father to Olympia, but he has a lot of responsibilities that he is trying to balance as well. He may be attracted to Adelaide, but he never expected that when she agreed to go to a social function with him that the media would cast them as a couple. They now find themselves pretending to be a couple which is starting to feel very real.

The characters draw you in, the humor will bring a smile to your face, the romance is endearing, and Olympia is too cute for words.

Another cute and funny story by the queen of sarcastic come backs. Adelaide was an amazing woman. Her care for the Dukes daughter filled my heart with so much love. She was thoughtful and kind, had a huge heart.
Alexander had a lot of responsibility on his shoulders. The main one was his daughter. Their love for her made them a perfect team. The attraction was at an all time high and they couldn't help but fall for each other.

This series is really a great was to spent an hour or two bundle up with a glass of wine and simply enjoy yourself.

I don't often leave such low starred reviews, but this book was so ridicously cheesy. It made me want to gag. Not even a B grade hallmark movie could be so kitschy.
I nearly didn't finish it several times, but seeing as I was waiting for my next Audible credit and behind on my reading schedule, I pushed through.
Not an author I can return to unfortunately, this is the second novel of hers I've read, and this was the icing on the overly sweet cheesecake. It's left me with a toothache and in a sugar coma.
