Love is glorious―we might even say transcendent. Yet no love is as glorious as the Lord Jesus’s love for His people. From Ephesians 3:19, John Durant explains the greatness of Christ’s love as beyond what words can express or our wildest imagination. While this love is so great that we cannot fully comprehend it, it is indeed true and among the sweetest comforts that can ease our troubled hearts. Durant reveals the many ways that Christ's heart is full of tender love for all believers. But has this love captured your heart?

The sweetest and most supreme of all doctrines is the love of Christ, serving as a favorite cordial of the apostle Paul, yet it is one of least written of topics within theology. Sovereignty, election, and retrieval may be written on without ceasing, but what are these without the love of Christ? Durant’s work fills a much needed void both in the world of Christian publishing and within the Christian life.
“Christ will love you, and does love you, O believer, because He will. Do not therefore stand questioning why He should, but be comforted, and rejoice in this, that He does love you, even you, O poor soul. Though it may be your faith is little, yet Christ’s love to you is true.”
A renewing review of Christ's love proved from Scripture and applied for both our fight with sin and journey for joy in God. Durant's writing is evident that he is a man who has experienced a taste of the fulness of the love of his Lord, and as a minister he longs for other Christians not only to know, but to believe, trust, and rest upon the transcendent love of God in Christ
The love of God is greater far than tongue or pen can ever tell; it goes beyond the highest star, and reaches to the lowest hell; the guilty pair, bowed down with care, God gave His Son to win; His erring child He reconciled, and pardoned from his sin.
O love of God, how rich and pure! How measureless and strong! It shall forevermore endure: the saints’ and angels’ song!
Beautiful! I have to start reading more of Durant’s works. One of the most wonderful puritan works I read. This book reminded me of John Bunyan’s ‘All Loves Excelling’.
This was a good read through all 6 sermons, where Durant continually attempts to impress on his readers that Christ's love to believers is so great that it passes knowledge. Very compelling and worth the read.
