Dark Confessions #3

Dangerous Vows

Rate this book
The difference between a vow and a promise? Promises were broken.
Between the truth and lies, I’d found the dark confession I’d been too afraid to acknowledge. I was tired of hiding behind fear, the lies holding me back too much. It was time to drop the mask completely and embrace the reality that had been staring me in the face.

Except now, I was the one with the secret.

Faced with an unimaginable dilemma, I had to face what was at stake—the family I was creating versus the woman I’d always been.

Maybe it was time to step out of my own shadow and into the woman I was meant to be?

Vowing to myself to fight for what I wanted, I wouldn’t let anything stand in my way this time—even myself.

But what if I wasn’t enough? Could I overcome the pressures or would I lose everything?

This is the 3rd book in the series and books 1 and 2 must be read first. This is a why choose novel, meaning the main female character doesn't have to choose between love interests. This is a dark contemporary mafia romance, medium burn with a slow build harem. The characters are adults with most being 30 and above. This story deals with depression and other themes that may be triggering. Please read the forward at the beginning of the book for more details. This is an adult romance and intended for readers 18+ due to language and content. This series does contain an MM relationship.

This series is soooo good. I've been counting down the days till I could read it.
So much happens, ugh it was probably my favourite in the series so far.
I love the women Loren is becoming. She exudes strength and it is so great to read her about her journey. Sax is still my favourite out of the guy's.
BUT THOSE LAST TWO CHAPTERS. I seriously don't know how I'm going to survive without the next book in the series. Highly recommend you read this series.

No notes taken. I’m still reading very slowly because of my reading slump or maybe this is a depressive episode and I’m struggling to be interested in even the things I’m interested in doing?

I really enjoyed this book and have really enjoyed this series as a whole. While I still have one more book left for this series, I haven’t been disappointed. For me, the pacing is enjoyable. The communication between the characters is unrealistic in how thorough and fantastic it is, but I really don’t mind that everyone is so clear with each other. Personally, I really dislike the miscommunication trope. When characters don’t communicate, I roll my eyes and consider them beyond childish. The drama in this series exists without that trope which I can’t even express my appreciation for enough.

This is book three of the Dangerous Confessions series and cannot be read as a stand-alone. It picks up with a continuation of events and ends with a cliffhanger.

*** Potential Spoilers***

Loren and the men are happier and more comfortable than ever together but things are tense in the world around them. Cami has been kidnapped. Loren’s new client is given her massive creeps. Brittni and Brian are both becoming problems. Brittni is a pest that is working with a person “pretending” to be Dayton Mascro, who Atticus killed after what was done to Imogen. Brian is working with Loren’s mom on a scheme to gain possession of Loren’s inheritance. It seems her miscarriage was more than just traumatic. Atticus learns family truths that his father hid from him.

So much happens in this book! But I want more! Can’t wait for Cami and Nats’ books and of course for the final book 4. I NEED to know what happens! Kris, why you leave us hanging like that? But really, Kris’ writing creates such depth in the characters. While Loren is the FMC and the stories MC, the men, oh the men. Their depth and growth and personalities jump off the page. I love the different Povs and I always know exactly whose speaking. She does an amazing job giving everyone a voice! …. Is it May yet? Guess I’ll just go bake myself some murder cupcake while I wait.

Damn, okay… so this is where the mafia stuff really comes into play.
This book hooked me and I’m so upset that I have to wait for the next book.

Things I loved:
✨Mentioned this in my last reviews for the previous books, but… Our FMC & the men who will be in her harem are all in their 30’s (except for the youngest who is 29). It can get a little exhausting reading so many books where the characters, especially the FMC, are so young - even in their teens. Being in your 30s is not old, and I’m glad this book explores these adult relationships in the way that it does. It also helps to add a level of realism to some of the events that happen in this book because our main characters are not teens.
✨The concept of a found-family. I love the way we see every one of our main characters come together in a way that’s beautiful and powerful, and they really do become their own family. It’s beautiful to see, especially having seen everyone grow and come together the last two books.
✨Loren’s growth! We’ve seen her during bad depressive episodes in the first two books and we’ve seen her develop into a much more confident and happy woman. I love it!

Things I didn’t love:
✨Almost had too many things happening in this book, most of which get resolved. It’s a little chaotic.
✨I’m disappointed at the reveal of everything Loren went through and and how little discussion there was in the book about it. It sort of came out and we moved past it, which bothered me.

This book ended on a big cliffhanger and I can’t wait to get my grimy little hands on the next one to see what happens to Jude. I just know Immy is going to put on her big girl pants and do something a little crazy!

I knew this book would be amazing from page one just based off the cliffy from the previous book and boy was I right!

Dangerous Vows the 3rd book in the Dark Confession series and is filled with all the romance, spice and emotional ups and downs you’re looking for in a contemporary mafia romance. Like seriously Kris Butler writes emotions like she’s weaving a spell!! I feel every single one in my bones.

All of the characters are top shelf but I need to highlight Jude because his growth through this series ugh I could cry! That boy is hilarious!! His little ranking game had me in stitches 😆 I love the fact that there are children in this book without taking anything from it.

Loren has grown a ton too. She’s still got pieces missing as we all do when healing and that’s real. She is so relatable her pain, her joy her strength. I love seeing her character push outside her comfort zones and take what she needs. Speaking on those needs WOW!! The spice in this book 🔥 I was fanning myself and I’m not gonna lie I’m a little jealous 🥵

I could go on and on about all the characters but we’d be here all day so I will say this; each one is on their own journey of becoming different versions of themselves and the author is doing brilliantly helping us see that.

Dangerous Vows is a medium/slow burn dark contemporary mafia RH romance. It’s got multiple POVs and deals with some heavy topics like child loss, depression and divorce.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy for an honest and voluntary review

Man, I love this series so much ♥️ I absolutely couldn’t put this book down!! I’m just so amazed at Loren’s growth, and have enjoyed reading about her journey. Including her relationships with the hot and sexy men: Monroe, Atticus, Sax, Wells and Nicco 🖤 There was quite a bit that happened in this book, and quite a bit of emotions and butterflies (on my part!!) I really really loved the different POVs in this book. I loved being able to read how each character thinks and feels about each situation. I can’t possibly pick a favorite, because I love them all ♥️ That’s part of the beauty to Kris’s writing. She makes you fall in love not only with the beautiful story, but also with her amazing characters!! I’m just so impressed by Loren, she’s such an amazing FMC!! She has really learned to come into her own and she handles business like a boss!! This book has really left me guessing what’s going to happen next, and I’m definitely on pins and needles!! That cliffhanger…..🤭 Come on Book 4!!
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AS WELL AS THE WHOLE SERIES 💙🖤

This is my favorite out of the series!!

Dangerous Vows is book 3 in the Dark Confessions series. This is a dark reverse harem, make sure to read the trigger warnings in the foreword!

We pick up where we left off in Dangerous Lies, and its an emotional rollercoaster the whole way thru!

Loren has grown so much over the course of the series and I adore her new bossy attitude. Her relationship with Jude is adorable and I wanna be a misfit penguin too!! I love how he ranks his new "daddy's" too😂😂

Atticus is so different in this one, in a good way, and I am here for it! Wells, Monroe, and Loren together are perfect, Sax is still his sexy grumpy self and my boo Nicco is still my favorite! When I read about his new jewelry, I loved him even more. All the relationships have gotten stronger and I can't wait for more!

That ending ripped my heart out!! I can't wait for the next book!!

This series is phenomenal, the characters are all amazing, the storyline will keep you guessing and the spice is crazy hot! Kris Butler will have you on the edge of your seat with all these crazy twists and I wouldn't have it any other way. This series is a Must read, and I can't wait for more of this world!!

I can honestly say that I am happy this is RH, cause I wouldn't be able to choose between the guys.

Attie that steps up to the game *swoon*.

There happens a lot in this book. I love how we also saw a part of Cami her story in this book. I found it very inlightning.

Every character grows so much in this story.

I really enjoy reading everyone their pov (not only Loren and her guys but also Jude and Immy).

This has to be my favorite book so far of this series.

Not to spoil much, but that ending, who saw that coming?

Is it may yet? Can it be?

I like that there will be 2 novellas in between, so not that long of a wait.

Who says romance is death? Cause here we have them with cupcakes *winks*

A book that is amazingly written, with hawt sexy scenes and guys that will have you wishing they were real. At least I do.

Nope... just nope... when will I learn that Kris loves to tease us with brutal endings!

This is another beautiful addition to the Dark Confessions series. Each character is growing and accepting their emotions, some more than others - looking at you Attie!

There are more twists and turns, new side characters that I can just imagine the fun times they'll bring and old characters that just will not go away!

And of course you can not forget the emotional rollercoaster that Kris takes us on, I legit cried when Loren's past was told. Tissues are a must 💔

Life’s about a culmination of moments. Don’t miss out on them because they’re not perfect, or you’re worried it could all go away tomorrow.

Dangerous Vows by Kris Butler is a dark contemporary mafia romance. This is the third book in the Dark Confessions series.

I absolutely love Kris's books! She does an amazing job pulling you into the story and making you feel every emotion the characters are feeling. I couldn't put the book down.

I am loving the relationships that Loren is building between Monroe, Atticus, Sax, Wells, and Nicco. I really enjoyed getting all of their points of view throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.

The book ends on an amazing cliffhanger that left me begging for more. I can't wait for the next book in the series Dangerous Love to be released on June 30, 2022. I am so excited that Cami and Nat are getting their own novellas that will be releaed in March and April.

I would highly recommend this series if you like dark romances, contemporary romance, reverse harem romances, or mafia romances.

Now can I just say WOW!! My entire being loved this book, I lived and breathed this book in its entirety until I had read it from start to finish. The plot a 10, the spiciness a 10, the angst a 10, the storyline itself was so well written it just makes you eat it up. And, I have read this series from the beginning, which I have said to myself it keeps getting better, and does, and it makes me love Loren, MFC, more. She has really grown into her own skin, embraced her strengths and allowed herself to be more open. Her character works so well with her counterparts, her men, each one of them grow throughout the story. I truly love them all, they are all my favorites #whychoose!! Throughout the story, we get a bit of mystery, romance, and suspense. So, again, I cannot praise this book enough but I can tell you to read it so go right now and read it!!

Holy murder cupcakes.... I was not ready. Thought I was. Firm no, not ready.

"For beauty is dangerous, but intelligence, well that's lethal."

Book 3 continues with Loren's emotional rollercoaster, filled with a lot of unexpected twists and some things that finally start clicking into place for me.

Immediately following book 2s ending, we get more answers. Followed by more questions.

Kris Butler's writing never ceases to amaze me in the ability she has to make these characters leap off the page and into my heart. The emotions in this book were just off the charts for me. Jude and Immy still remain probably the best secondary characters.

With a bit of comedic relief, a lot of steam, great relationships, there is nothing I felt was lacking.

I can't wait to get more of Cami and Nat in their Novellas, but slightly dying at the prospect of waiting for the final book!

** I will say be mindful of the trigger warnings. This is book 3 so a lot has been addressed or introduced, but just be aware of your own limits. **

This book was everything!!!!! You could not ask for anything more all wrapped up into one book. It will leave you on the edge of your seat and needing to know what is going to happen next. So many emotional ups and downs and the depth of the characters finally coming out was astounding and I freaking loved it! The steam was off the charts as well as the amount of love portrayed throughout this book. A definite must read and highly recommend. Kris Butler did an amazing job!!!

My heart may never recover! Sooooo much happens in this book that I'll definitely be re-reading to fully absorb it all. Loren's guys really come together and make the most amazing family ever. I'm loving all the interactions between them and Jude and the connections they're all making with the amazing teen. There's a ton of amazing spice and a bunch of epic twists.

HOWEVER, THE ENDING WAS MEAN!! SO MEAN.... just saying. 💙

Can't wait for book 4.

This series just keeps getting better and better! The third book picks up right where the last left off. I love the dynamic coming together between everyone. So many things in this book I didn't know I needed. Murder cupcakes, sexy 🔥scenes and whoa... Atticus. These cliffhangers tho are killing me! Everything slowly comes to light then. BAM. Books finished and your left, mouth open, in shock then ends with you throwing you kindle across the room. Loved it. Can't wait for the next book!

Dangerous Vows by Kris Butler is book three in the Dark Confessions series. This one picks up right where book two ends. And this ending... holy potatoes I was not ready. And I am not okay. I need book four like yesterday. Dangerous Vows is absolutely my favorite book in this series so far. In fact, Dark Confessions is my favorite series that Kris has written so far. In Dangerous Vows, truths are coming out and the character development is phenomenal and more than I could ask for. Everyone is growing and becoming their true selves and it's beautiful to see... or read. I'm so excited and nervous to see what's in store for these characters in the next book.

This series is getting crazier and crazier by the minute. I’m digging this dark mafia romance. I love how they are the anti-hero’s but definitely not the villains. Dayton is an interesting cat. I’m almost in awe of his manipulation game. But I feel he underestimated our anti-hero’s. Jude is my favorite. His character is just a light in this darkness. Everyone has broken pieces in their past, but Jude he never let his light diminish. I can’t wait for the next installment. That ending…it’s a doozy.

Kris Butler is a fricking genius! Dangerous Vows is the third book in her Dark Confessions Series. With steamy scenes and fantastic plot don’t miss out on this story.

This series is my favorite series of Kris Butler's, I am so hooked and get in deeper with each book that is added to the series! I like watching Loren grow and change as the series has gone on, the men in her life are helping her grow in confidence and find herself. I think Kris enjoys making us wait because having the two books in between this book and the fourth book is mean, but also super amazing so I cannot complain too much. This series is totally a must-read!

YES! OMG!! This was by far the best book in this series!! Loren has finally gotten the answers that Atticus, Sax, and Nico are a part of the mob world. Atticus explains everything and Loren pieces thing together as well. Not only does Loren accept their backgrounds, but joins their world so to speak, along with Monroe and Wells. Gosh, this was so good! I really want book 4 to be out right this second!

Anyway, my theory from the previous book, Loren did in fact lose her baby girl, but I think it wasn't fully her fault (as she thought) but by her evil dirt bag of an ex-husband. But he and Loren's evil, narcissistic bitch of a mother took Loren's eggs without her consent and knowledge!! Like who in the hell does that!!!? Well Loren finds out and delivers wonderful justice and revenge to both. It was beautiful! I am hoping later Loren can finally have her babies, but with her men that absolutely love her. Also, Monroe's ex-wife she actual shoots Wells and Monroe later gives the green to have her killed (YES!!).

Atticus's super evil father is in fact alive and is taking over what Atticus was slowly building, making the mob family better. Well, Atticus is super stressed out, but it is not alone. He is worried about Immy (but she has grown and is stronger). Atticus has done a lot of past research and recovered some interesting facts that I think will lead to a interesting alliance to another mob family. So, book 4 is going to be a wicked and suspenseful battle!

The cliffhanger!!??? OMG! I cried! Jude was kidnapped!! Sorry, spoiler alert.

Harem:
Atticus (mob boss and finally in Loren's harem), Sax (second man to Atticus, gosh what a sexy flirt this man is!), Nicco (actually the younger brother to Atticus, amazing tattoo artist, finally in the mafia life, kinda flirts with Monroe and Wells....), Monroe (single dad to Levi, lawyer, partner to both Loren and Wells and maybe Nicco...? Is in the mafia life), Wells (had the most growth in this book, fighter for Atticus, partner to both Loren and Monroe and maybe Nicco later on...?

Sexiness: 6 out of 5! Hot and steamy
MM in this book

Multiple POVs

I am so looking forward to book 4!

This review is of my own opinion.

Out of the series, this was my favorite. I say this now, and I only hesitate because I know the 4th and final book is on it’s way.

SOOOOOOOO let’s talk about my man Atticus. Ahaha I waited for him, he was so damn pushy in the first two books. His aggravation only turned me on, I knew once he gave in to Loren it would be sexy, sensual, intense, and beautiful. I feel like him and Loren are a power couple, and now that they are together, it only empowers the rest of the guys. I know the rest of them are saying “fucking finally.” It is so well developed. We needed them together it only makes them braver.

And with everything they faced they were all so damn brave. The best thing about Kris Butler’s writing is that being brave doesn’t mean you don’t cry, doesn’t mean you don’t feel pain, or grief. In fact she really embraces to feel what you feel to lean into your feelings and one another. Sax is still a sexy big beast, but his walls came down here too, Monroe and Wells are healing and admitting what they want from one another and with Loren, combine that with Nicco being open minded, and I was on fire.

I like the action, and the details. Getting more answers, but truly we need revenge. That cliffhanger tore me up. For a lot of things covered in this book, it moved easy!

Atticus, I know he has to sometimes squint, ;) but I think he is breaking, He was so damn delicious in this book, protective of Loren, and I felt like she wants to be there for him, just as much. He wooed her and devoured her! That works for me!

Ps. A certain amazing somebody better be ok :(

⚖️Dangerous Vows Review⚖️

I have never been lead into a false sense of security quite like this one and I loved every minute of it.

So much happens and my brain is still catching up. Loren’s journey is so captivating and seeing how she has become more confident and accepted her sharp edges since book one is the absolute best. There are moments where she has the ability to break and just leave everything behind but she doesn’t. She learns how to trust and that sharing what you’re experiencing isn’t bad and it was needed to move forward.

Obviously the guys play a big part in this book and seeing the different levels of hierarchy, emotions and how they rely on each other brought this book to a whole other level.

Atticus is getting his own spotlight because I’ve been asking Kris since book one to give me more of my mysterious mafia boss and damn am I glad he finally grew a pair. His need to protect everyone melts my soul. I’m keeping the brooding asshole forever.

I can’t bring up the guys and ignore Jude! I love how my penguin has adjusted, come into his own and honestly just be the best teen in the world.

I believe I said that I’m so mad and happy and I know you have an entire book after this one so I’m hopeful and truer words have never been spoken.

Yeah, this is the same as the first two. I’m curious about how all of this is going to play out, but the writing is just too blocky.

I’m gonna finish the series, simply because I got this far, but I find myself getting frustrated with the book more than being able to really sit and enjoy it.
Everyone kinda has the same way of speaking, and it makes it difficult to remember who was having what interactions.

And there are a few jokes about Loren’s therapy-speak, which I think would land better if everyone she spoke to didn’t answer the same way.
When she does it, someone will tell her something and her response is always “it’s okay that you feel that way. And I know that you are feeling a lot of feelings and I am just so honored that you want to share that with me”

But then the guys all answer things with that same cadence of “I guess you’re right. And it makes sense that you feel that way because of (plot element) and (other character).” It just feels like every interaction is written by using the same general template.

However, I will say that I’m genuinely invested in Jude and I have to read further to figure out what happens to him.

And an honorable mention to Nicco and the way he’s fucking with Wells and Monroe. Love that, can’t wait for that to play out.

This series just keeps getting better and better! Dangerous Vows is book 3 in the Dark Confessions series. It is a slow build story with medium burn steam and a lot of deep emotional growth. This third book does a great job of going more in-depth into the relationships that have been built in the series thus far.

Loren is a character that I instantly loved. As someone in my 30s, I appreciate that she is as well. I also love the continued honest and accurate depiction of depression. And the fact that she is a therapist, but still struggling in her own way is great.

I loved the character growth from the guys too. Sax, Nicco, Wells, Monroe, and Atticus all have so many interesting quirks that make me swoon but also make me want to strangle one or two of them. I especially loved going deeper into Atticus' character in this one, as well as starting to touch on Sax's issues.

My favorite part about this third book is how the characters (and we the readers) start to finally get answers from each other. Secrets are laid out on the table and Loren especially makes a very important decision to be honest with Atticus about a major plot point. Loved it!

The writing is fantastic, I love the side characters, especially Jude and Immy, the steam is on point, and I can't wait to see how everything in the story comes to a conclusion in the final book!

Thanks to Kris for an advanced copy to review. All thoughts and love are my own!

I feel like this is dragging on a bit now and I feel like we are getting a lot of the same however I still love the characters and I know there has been a lot of character development in all the characters but I’m at a point now where I want this to be over.

I am kind of glad the next two books are novellas and it’s Cami and Nat’s stories. I think I need a break from the main story in this series as I feel it’s dragging and will put me off if I went straight into book 4, however I don’t normally like to read the novellas before the last book in the series but the author states these novellas may mention things that are important to the main storyline. But I’m not sure how we can have a kidnapping at the end if this book and then go into Cams story? We will see.

The limited smut we got was great but I’m disappointed we still haven’t seen any MM in this. And if this is all the MM we are getting then it is weak, I really want to know more about Monroe and Wells relationship and the will they/wont they with him and Nicco. But we haven’t had much of that.

This book was more focused on the Mafia side and I am loving that.

This was my freaking favorite book of the series so far!! Are you kidding me SOOOOO much happens with Loren and her guys… The growth between all of them is fantastic and I feel like their progression felt so natural. My boo Atticus finally gets his time to shine and boy does that man show up and show out. I love all of the guys but this man right here has my heart. I love that we get multiple POVs and see what each guy feels and what they are going through within the relationship as well has what they are going through themselves is fantastic. There are some moments that had my heart in my throat and me screaming are you freaking kidding me not again. Then there were some truly heartfelt moments that left me in awe and then we have them sexy time specials that were off the charts hot AF…. Also I cannot wait for both Cami and Nat’s stories to be told as well as waiting for our next book because that freaking ending is brutal to say the least!!!

Dangerously Addictive 5+ Read
This series continues to blow me away. The growth and development of all the characters just makes me love them even more. The plot twists keep coming and Kris continues to give me small heart attacks. That cliffhanger though. WTF Kris, don’t do it, don’t do it!! As with the first two books, I couldn’t put this book down once I started reading it. Loren”s journey of self discovery and transformation is so relatable (minus the mafia and stuff) and she has become one of my top 5 all time favorite FMCs. Of course the steam is *chefs kiss* and Nicco, hello sir, I see what you’re doing. Wonderfully dark, romantic, suspense filled series that I can’t get enough of.
Read the trigger warnings!!!

As soon as i reached the end of Dangerous Lies i instantly started looking forward to this third installment! I picked it up as soon as i could and got back into the Dark Confessions world. I so enjoyed this third book!

Loren and her men's journey continues! I wasn't sure what all was going to happen in this one and i am so loving how this series continues to keep me on my toes. I was so glad to dig deeper into this world with these characters. Once again, these characters had me feeling so much throughout!

With Dangerous Vows, Ms.Butler has created such a good read and continuation that pulled me in! I can't wait for the novella's and to dive into the fourth installment, Dangerous Love!

*I volunteered to read and review a copy of this book from the author*
