Andrew Chapman was born. This much we know for sure. Sometime after that he started writing. He also began to drink. And now he has a blog.

Many authors had difficult lives. Andrew’s was no different. He had a hard life right from the start.

He was born at a very young age. For the first few months of his life he couldn’t walk and was forced to defecate and wet himself without the use of a toilet. Instead he was made to wear some kind of absorbent underwear. His parents made him live in a wooden cage in the corner of their room and, probably the worst thing of all; his own mother used to force her nipple into his mouth. And that’s only the first few months of his life.

Since then Andrew wrote some books.

With love,

Me

Was kindly gifted this audio book. When I first read the synopsis saying IT meets Ready player one I was instantly sucked in!

This was nostalgic retro gaming horror at its finest!
Loved the fast paced story and he didn’t hold back on the descriptive horror!

I've read it three times!

If you're looking for that book, you know the one that didn't exist. About nostalgia and the nineties, with a horrific gory twist. Check out Andrew Chapman's novel, and meet the folk of Shelley Town. Jack's back, and he's nasty, and his vengeance knows no bounds. It's horror at its best, with twists and turns galore. I promise you won't be disappointed, the story leaves you wanting more. I'll not reveal any spoilers and by the end you won't forget the name. Jack Matterson of Shelley Town, and Billy who played the game.

Received as an audio copy to review from the narrator, this is an honest. Anchored by the magnificent stellar performance by Karl Jenkinson, Jack's Game is the perfect, hauntingly dark story that will have you sleeping with the lights on and will leave your blood cold. Friends Billy, Martha and Dirk blissfully spend their time losing themselves in retro games and movies; when Billy discovers an unknown game called Shelly Town along with its console to play upon, things quickly dissolve into something truly eerie. The game feels all too real and something dark are watching from the shadows. When they begin to follow a bizarre map from them game and unearth a buried hand, all hell breaks lose not only for these kinds but for their parents as well. For ten ago, their parents become famous for a game that changed their lives... but came with a dark cost they never thought that would be paid as a dark soul bent on revenge for what he never got comes to collect against them. As the ultimate game of survival unfolds filled shocking, visceral violence... to win against the undead will call for another harrowing sacrifice.

Perfect for the fans of author Andrew Van Wey.

Highly recommended.

When Brian Rain finds a mysterious video game cartridge in a yard giveaway, he doesn’t know what to expect. Soon after beginning the Shelley Town RPG, his friends and family are plagued with a ghoul from the past, out for vengeance.

This book is DEFINITELY very inspired by Stephen King’s “It,” but in a way that I would rather read this than King’s book. Chapman pulls you in with innocent kids finding and being haunted by this video game, as well as the misdeeds of their parents in the past. There’s mystery, unease, shock, and gore galore when things kick into action.

I do have to say the start of the story is a bit slow, and threw me with some grammatical issues. There are quite a few typos but know it’s self-published, I was able to look past them for the plot and story.

Mr. Chapman, please give me more Shelley Town!

This book starts fun and whimsical and maybe even seeming a bit YA but boy oh boy does it go HARD. Once the true terror begins, it’s a wretched stinking gore fest reminiscent of Ready Player 1, IT and the Terrifier series.

Nicely crafted, Jack’s Game gives you ample time to fall in love with the characters of this small town, get the lay of the land, and learn bits and pieces of its history as you bounce between various groups of characters through bite-sized chapters. Its very design keeps you hooked, not just waiting for the next chapter but sometimes waiting 3 or 4 chapters to resolve a particular cliffhanger as you cycle through the other parallel storylines. It feeds you only the information you need to keep the story moving, but holds on to certain mysteries all the way to the bitter end.

I really enjoyed this book!

Retro horror fun

I enjoyed this one! This sort of gave me modern "IT" vibes. The story itself was a good one filled with 90s gaming references and a bit of an 80s-90s horror feel. Three free-range pre-teens are at the center of the story, facing very grown up horrors that threaten to steal their innocence, lives, and souls.
My only criticism is that the ending felt very abrupt. I felt that there could have been just a tad more. There was really no denouement; big things happened, and then suddenly it's the end. However I do see that this is a "book one" so I am interested to see if there is more to this Shelly Town Saga!

Had seen this mentioned on social media and though Horror books are not my normal reading material, I thought i'd give it a go.
This is a read that's 'easy on the eye.' lots of conversation used to paint the picture and some spine chilling moments. I also liked the way the author brought the tale to a conclusion ... I will say no more.

For some reason, it took me a while to get it into my head this story was not set in USA, but UK. I guess that's the power of movies, an how they influence your subconscious.

But yeah - and enjoyable read and well portrayed, I'd say.

I picked out this book because of the cover and the promise of some 90s gaming nostalgia and horror. I loved it. It had more horror than Resident Evil, more violence than Mortal Kombat and more fun than a 4 player session on Goldeneye. If you like Stranger Things and Stephen King I think you'll love this book. Utterly brutal fun with a killer ending.

A good story that I really enjoyed even though I don't usually read horror. Unfortunately this book could do with a good editor.
