Great read.

"Serial killers do, on a small scale, what governments do on a large one. They are products of our times and these are bloodthirsty times". The line as stated above remains to be the chilling words of the well known “Night stalker” for the devil’s directions was his motive for all of these who deviate violently from the usual course of life remain to be driven by some higher calling resulting in lowly deeds of which they are least mindful of, for it’s the wicked righteousness that takes over every sense of repentance and remorse and the same happened in the book at hand and the ways are briefly delineated below.

Delving further into the attributes of the book, the first aspect remains to be the length of the book which remains to be 300 pages and the initial disclosure itself reflects the nature of the contents that follow. The intro of the book starts with a female who is desperate to find comfort in the snow and the woods for her handcuffs and her naked appearance from below waist speaks of something unspeakable that has happened with her, an act of merely closing her eyes and a shot is fired and the hunt again begins as she finally is rescued and asks the police officer to contact Lilith Simmons. The first chapter of the book then introduces the readers a bit closer to the life of Little Carmen, Rebecca, and her mother who lived in an impoverished area and the further continuation of the story reflects upon their usual life. As the readers proceed further with the chapters they can with ease grasp how Lilith Simmons becomes someone undesirable and nefarious if seen from the set standards of normalcy, sanity, and logic. Additionally, the presentation aspect of the book adds to the precision of the writing style as the usage of date and time complements the thrilling aspects of the book.

The writing style of the book revolves around simplicity as the same is vital to ensure that the attention span of the readers remains consistent and the same doesn’t jeopardize the slow but steady progression of the storyline and the overall plot, thereby making this book a must-read for anyone willing to read an extremely compelling and thrilling story and at the same time for someone willing to get necessary insights as to what makes someone a serial killer.

We all have a little Lilith inside of us...

Very satisfying read. Also terrifyingly descriptive. If the pain and torture of rapists and pedophiles warms your blood then this is definitely the book for you! I loved cheering for the bad girl. Super fun read. Francheska had me cringing and wanting to cover my eyes and at the same time I just had to keep reading. I’m thankful everyday I have a vagina and not a penis, even more so after redo g this book.

Great read.

This book is a fictional serial killer novel, it is a phycological thriller. The author tries to spread awareness for missing and unidentified people and children within the United States.
.
The character of Rebecca was initially incredibly nervous, as any single parent should be. But all her worries went away when she saw her little princess. Kenneth was attentive when interacting with her. Goofy, whenever they needed any cheering up; he was also sweet, thoughtful, and loving. He had this natural fatherly instinct. And soon enough became a great stepfather to Carmen. They were quite the trio after that. They loved spending time together; going on walks in the park, picnic days at the beach, exploring museums, you name it. Everyone could see how happy they were together as a family. I too enjoyed their banter.
.
Rebecca found a job as a clerk for the post office. The girls were academically doing great in school. Kenneth had gotten promoted. Everything was going smoothly for a few years, till the day that changed their lives forever.
.
Hundreds of thousands of people go missing every year, according to FBI data. In 2020, more than 540,000 people went missing in the USA, including more than 340,000 juveniles, according to the data.
.
It is an intense book, please note - This book is intended for readers 18+.
READER DISCRETION IS ADVISED

Francheska Robles Diaz is a new-to-me author, but after reading this, her debut novel, I would even read her grocery list, anytime. She has a way of drawing you into the story, and even though the content is full of gore and insanely twisted, you find yourself agreeing and rooting for the MC. How sick is that? I love it! Whoever manages to do this, knows how to engage the reader. Kudos!

First of all, you should know this is not for everyone. It's meant for readers 18+. It's about a serial killer, so there's violence, strong language, gore, blood, descriptive torture scenes, mental & physical pain, rape, death and grief.

The book starts with some action and the reader is left wondering what really happened. A great way to hook the reader. I really appreciate that the author took us back in time and fed us some needed backstory, in order to develop the characters. I enjoyed learning about them and loved that she took me away to the beautiful island of Puerto Rico with her descriptions and vivid atmosphere. I could see every colorful detail she described.

As the story moves forward, you’re always wondering what’s going on, which is great. But it's on chapter 9 where it starts getting intense. When you start seeing who Lilith is becoming. The author calls it becoming a monster in her description of the book. I, personally, would say pain is the culprit, the one capable of pushing you to the limit. It can turn anybody into a "monster". That's exactly what happens to Lilith. In my eyes, she wasn't a monster. She had a thirst for revenge and twisted justice that within her circumstances and frustration somehow became plausible. The way the author bleeds her characters and puts the reader in their shoes makes us wonder and root for L Simmons, even when we know what she's doing is wrong and unacceptable. Love and grief are two of the strongest emotions that can easily become overwhelming. Lilith is painfully entangled in such emotions from a young age, and as her circumstances change, her frustration grows, putting her mental health at stake. The metaphor/comparison the author provides to let the reader know Simmons is falling into some kind of madness, is great, (won't spoil it). With time, Lilith gives in and stops fighting her demons and instead of dueling she takes those demons by the horns and delivers. And let me tell you, you'll be rooting for her. As I read I found myself screaming "YES!" and even smirking at times. Not once I felt the need to put it down. I love when a book has that effect in me. A brutal and unexpected treat for sure! Lilith is one of those characters that will stay with me for a long time.

This is not just a gory book. It's an eye opener, and it has a purpose. At the end of the book, I was glad to find a list of resources for PTSD, mental health and such. I was also surprised by the information provided by state about missing people, evidence the author did her job, and she did it well.

If you enjoy gore, badass characters, and strong female heroines, this book is for you. It's definitely a wild ride you won't be able to put down and it would make a great TV series.

A big thank you to the author for sharing this book with the world and providing a platform where readers of every path of life can find unexpected catharsis and find healing if they make use of the great resources she provided.

Will definitely recommend!

TW: sexual abuse, torture, gore, homophobia (may be forgetting some TW)

Lilith Simmons has had to face violence at the hands of men too many times. Let down by the people she trusted to help her, the police, she takes matters into her own hands. Part vigilante, part avenger, part anti hero, part serial killer she hunts down the man who took nearly everything from her, and the men like him that escaped justice; on top of that dealing with the trauma and her mental illness. Torturing and killing her marks in creative ways she gets the justice for herself, and these violent men’s other victims.

I love a good vigilante story it’s one of my favorite tropes and this one definitely delivered on everything I like in the vigilante trope. I think one of my favorite parts is that it really explores the trauma of what dealing with these horrible things does to a person. It also includes a little backstory on Lilith and shows things she went through being part of the military and the homophobia from fellow military members. The book also brings awareness to missing persons including both mental health statistics, and statistics on missing persons in America. This was a great read that also talked about important issues if you don’t mind the things in the TW I definitely recommend this book.

The Effects of Her Nerium is a wild and gritty ride, traveling to the darkest depths to seek vengeance in unimaginable ways.
Scared? You should be!
Lilith is one of the most badass and terrifying female characters I’ve had the pleasure of admiring. My awe has me questioning my sanity, because this story goes places far beyond many I’ve read.
I love that I could truly feel the author’s voice jumping off the pages. Her style is no-nonsense and down-to-earth with a real conversational flow. She made the reading experience easy and seamless while impressing my socks off.
Grab a copy, but be forewarned: there are many possible triggers within these pages.
Grateful for my “raw” and beautiful copy of this book. Much thanks to the author for bringing so many important issues to light amidst all the darkness.

•The book has a very creative and innovative cover page that very well suits the title and the content. The genre of the book is a psychological thriller.

• The novel is about the life of a fictitious female serial murderer. She takes a wicked route, but according to her philosophy, it is the right one. Her character traits are those of a newcomer to the world of serial killers. She is stalking, tormenting, and killing people who have been cruelly picked. The protagonist, Lilith Simmons, was not always like this, but a sequence of traumatic experiences changed her soul. She, like all other psycho killers, leaves all of the scenarios as they are to highlight her horror. Michael Hicks and Jacob Daniels, two investigators, conduct extensive studies to put an end to the serial killings in Kentucky’s forests. They discovered that there are two serial killers after conducting extensive research. After each of the cold cases, their task becomes more difficult. The picturesque perspective of each murder scene becomes more dramatic, making things more difficult to solve and also making it difficult to connect all of the dots to find the killers.

• What happened to Lilith to cause her to become so cold-hearted? How will the investigator solve the case before it becomes too much for Kentucky’s residents? Buy your copy of the book now to obtain all of your answers!

• The book was shown and elaborated in a very traditional manner to the very conclusion. The author begins slowly, but after a few pages, the plot becomes passionate, twisted, and one-of-a-kind. The language is simple and very well crafted according to the action scenes. The way the author has plotted this psychological thriller is quite different from regular. The language is straightforward and well-suited to the action situations. The author’s approach to plotting this thriller is out of the ordinary.

Highly Recommended!!

In her debut novel, The Effects of Her Nerium, new author Francheska D. Robles-Diaz did a beautiful job pulling you in and keeping you deep in anticipation.

“From the ashes of despair, monsters are born, and hope perishes, leaving faith unknown.” – F.R.D.

A very powerful quote which invokes the mindset for one of the best, gruesome revenge stories I’ve read in a long time.

What makes a great revenge story?

When the author flawlessly creates main characters the readers develop a strong enough bond with, that when the love story becomes a story of heartache and unconsolable tragedy, the reader themselves demand vengeance. And that is what you get with The Effects of Her Nerium—a very raw, in-depth story of vengeance that strings you up by your emotional feet and dangles you with audacity.

From the intro you are pulled into the world of two sisters, Carmen Narvaez and Lilith Simmons. Two women surviving together after the childhood trauma of losing their mom, who was abducted and never found. Thirteen years later another tragedy befalls the sisters that pushes Lilith over the edge. Think Coffey (Pam Grier) meets Frank Castle meets Lisbeth Salander with a John Creasy no f**ks given sense of poetic justice.

Francheska has created a very likable character in Lilith. As carefully as a surgeon would lay out his instruments on a table, Francheska laid out all the horrific acts committed by those Lilith hunted. This made it easier for the reader to feel no remorse; maybe even question their moral compass, because there is violence and gore—lots of blood, guts, and mangled penises—all incredibly, brilliantly described, and you will cheer.

Lilith has easily become one of my favorite, raw, passionate anti-heroes.

I highly recommend this heart-wrenching journey through one sister’s transformation into the shadowy dog of vengeance. Five star read. Looking forward to more from Francheska D. Robles-Diaz.

Absolutely Phenomenal

I can’t express the joy and heartache I had reading this novel. In the span of two days I fell in love with Lilith and everything she stands for. I fell in love with her motivations and her resolve. The storyline is phenomenal and heartbreaking at the same time. From beginning to end, you’re drawn in and it only gets better with every page. Highly recommended if you like gore and thriller/mystery.

This novel is a wild ride: emotional and brutal. Lilith is a vicious serial killer, but we can see how her experiences have shaped her into what she has become. A fast-paced, suspenseful, and vicious story, great for readers who like unique and well-rounded characters that drive an intense plot forward.

Serial killers and their lives have always been an engaging topic for us and this story features a female serial killer Lilith Simmons. The Kentucky’s forests have become a very dangerous area as the number of deaths has been rising frequently, the two investigators in charge are Michael Hicks and Jacob Daniels who will not just look for the killer but will also face the horrifying marks left behind. Gradually, the readers will witness the circumstances under which Lilith aimed to become this noxious and why is she doing this all. The readers will chase the two investigators landing on various conclusions and making efforts to save lives and finding the killer. A staggering story with mind blowing elements to keep you glued.
" I believe the only way to reform people is to kill them."

I really enjoyed this jaw dropping story, the presentation of a rip-roaring female serial killer, the mind-bending crime scenes and the spectacular chasing all these elements has made the story fantastic. The narration evolved eventually, and took a great pace. I really liked the natural and realistic dialogues and situations. The book overall was fantastic with powerful elements. I congratulate the author for the amazing work, your efforts are priceless.

The people who enjoy investigative plots and staggering thriller should definitely pick this. The people who have never came across this genre will find this a great start. The cover image and the title are equally captivating. So quickly get your hands on this staggering story and don't forget to share it with your friends.

Diaz absolutely knocks it out of the park with this vigilante, serial killer, blood bath of an origin story. I was gripping the book from the very beginning and couldn’t put it down until it had gutted me completely on the final page. It’s twisted and sick and serves up a whole hot steaming pile of GOOD FOR HER. I was beyond impressed with this one and absolutely cannot wait for Diaz’s next. So many moments of this story had me going “IS SHE GONNA GO THERE? There’s no way!…….she went there!!” Please take a ibuprofen or some sort of muscle relaxer before this one, because your JAW is gonna be sore from the amount of dropping it will do. A+ character development. A+ plot. A+ breaking my heart.

One of the best books I've ever read

This story is amazing. Lillith is an incredible character with a mind as twisted as Jigsaw from the Saw movies. I'd love to see Lillith on the big screen some day.

Sometimes you start a book that you just know is going to make you need a warm fuzzy blanket. Is it really that cold, or are you just chilled from from inside?

We start with the setting that is a Happily Ever...but then the floor drops out. Lilith has lost some people in her life that were her whole world. But she isn't a person to sit idly by -- and she is pissed at the cops who in her eyes are inadequate. Because of them a serial killer praying against women has been able to succeed for over a decade.

Read this to see the making of another savior type of serial killer, when justice fails and monsters have gotten away scot free for too long. If you like Dexter, read this!!

I also have to give tribute and add that her beautiful origin story from birth to formative years, really saddened me, because that happiness becomes a fleeting moment in time for Lillith. The ultimate morally gray character with a cause. I love Lillith's character!

If you like a good revenge story and aren't squeamish with gore, this is for you!

When a work of fiction, from a young, first time author, can throat-punch you and remind you that bad things happen and there are characters like Lilith Simmons to deliver justice you know you've picked up the right book.

There is a Trigger Warning in the the beginning and thank goodness for that. This book is graphic and violent and yet very cathartic.

Diaz delivers a tour de force with this novel and can't wait to see what she writes next.

Not for the weekend reader and must have a steel stomach. The Effects of Her Nerium is one helluva read as we are introduced to Lilith her life is turned upside down after her mother's disappearance. Years later the repeat with her sister which is the beginning of Lilith's dark path. Embodying the goddess Lilith, she goes on the path of justice wronging the wrongs in her quest to find the real person behind destroying her family, life and striping away of everyone she loves. Its up to you to make a choice: Is Lilith an angel? or a monster? You decide and understand Lilith as she blaze her own vengeance justice on the unsavory characters who hurt and dehumanize the innocent.

One sentence summary: A flower plucked, makes way for one that poisons.

The reader is driven mad along with the main character, Lilith, who gives up so much for justice. Lilith leads us down a bloody trail of torture, where each drop, brings us closer to the killer. In Lilith, the author portrays a vigilante with an exact purpose.

The flashback plot not only keeps the tension building but also provides insight to the main characters’ selection process and method of torture. The ending was befitting of Lilith’s morality and dug a firm line between the Id and the Ego of the characters involved.

This book has been on my radar for such a long time, and I’m glad I finally gave it a go. In it, I found one of the most killer women! I highly recommend this read to lovers of Broken Justice by Michael Goodwin, Dolores Clairborne/ A Good Marriage by Stephen King and to lovers of true crime feel books!
